Petra Borner - Pippa Kendrick's The Intolerant Gourmet

If you or someone you live with has an allergy or intolerance to certain foods, you'll know that cooking can easily become a far less than enjoyable chore. A new cookery book released today however, The Intolerable Gourmet by Pippa Kendrick, provides a huge selection of safe and trusted recipes for all kinds of meals.

The book is also divided into seasonal food groups, each of which is beautifully illustrated by Petra Borner, all of which you can see below. These classifications are not only useful for those days when you have no culinary imagination, but also promotes responsible farming (although I'm going to assume the carrot cake with lemon fudge icing is meant for all year round consumption).

Marc Burckhardt - Gold Medal win from Society of Illustrators

We are very happy to congratulate artist Marc Burckhardt on winning the Gold Medal Award in the Editorial category of this years Society of Illustrators Annual Exhibition. The winning image which you can see in full below, was part of an article on the practise of over fishing for the American publication of Mens Health magazine.

The Society of Illustrators hosts their Annual Exhibition to showcase work across three categories: Sequential and Uncommissioned, Editorial and Books, and Advertising and Institutional. Currently Marcs category is on display, though only until next monday, so be sure to have a look round if you in New York this week.

Noma Bar - Lyonnaise des Eaux

The Paris branch of advertising agency M&C Saatchi and artist Noma Bar have recently completed the latest campaign for Lyonnaise des Eaux, one of France's largest water distribution companies, highlighting the importance of high quality sanitisation of water.

While using a water droplet as a recurring motif, a number of images were created covering a number of pointers, such as the need for communities to look after their local water sources, and responsible pricing of tariffs.

Wilfrid Wood - Orange Swapables Ninja campaign

Wilfrid Wood has been working with creative agency Fallon on the latest Orange campaign, designing and creating a team of super-stealthy ninjas whose sole purpose is to keep their customers entertained.
The project promotes Oranges new swappable app subscription service on their Panther tariff. The Ninjas themselves were designed by Wilfrid, who then hand made a set of figures for web and print advertisements, shot by photographer Leandro Farina.

The Ninjas, in the form of some fantastic costume tailoring based on Wilfrids original figures, also appear in the latest TV commercial. Check out the video below, where time is slowed down enough to see them at work.

SHOUT - coordinated exhibition with Gary Taxali

This evening is the opening night for a joint show between artists SHOUT and Gary Taxali in Milan, Italy.

Held at the Galleria Antonio Colombo Arte Contemporanea, SHOUT has a number of pieces on display in the project area known as "The Circus", while the main gallery space holds work by Taxali.

The show opens tonight at 18:30 local time, where both artists will be in attendance for book signings, and there will also be a limited series of monographs on sale from both of the artists through art publisher 27_9.

Ah, the January Sales. As if the Christmas rush wasn't enough, shopping malls and retail parks everywhere know just how to bring out the crazy in us all for another month. All Stock Must GO! 10% Off Sale Prices! By February it's just to much to bare.

Here lies the concept behind the latest campaign for American clothing chain JCPenney, created by Mother New York and illustrated by typographer Joel Holland, to promote the brands new price structure launched this month. Joel's defiant artwork, which you can see more of on Mother NY's homepage, ties in with a TV add where the shoppers have simply had enough. Be warned, it gets pretty loud.

The new campaign and price structure also joins a rebranding of the chains logo, and plans for new store layouts and in store marketing events. So if you live stateside, keep your ears to the ground, and your eyes on Joel's handiwork.

Kustaa Saksi - Haapaneitty, Mettänyttö children's book

Today marks the fruition of a project long in the making for artist Kustaa Saksi, as the children's book Haapaneitty, Mettänyttö is released in Finland.

The project, fully illustrated by Kustaa throughout, follows the adventure of a young boy named Eino as he follows a cat through a large forest. Kustaas hyperdelic image making draws you in to a fully immersive story telling experience, as the book is also accompanied by a CD featuring a soundtrack to read along with.

The book is authored by Arja Puikkonen, the soundtrack composed by Kirmo Lintinen, and released by Finnish publisher Nemo.

Graham Roumieu - The Well Educated Mind title's Spanish release

Artist Graham Roumieu is fronting the Spanish edition of acclaimed education manual The Well Educated Mind: The Classical Education You Never Had, which has been released this month.

Joel Holland - High 5 England Netball

Typographer Joel Holland has been working with England Netball to help launch High 5, an entry level scheme aimed at kids aged between 9 and 11, tasked with promoting the sport and general fitness.

The nationwide initiative runs a number of projects, from working with schools to create Girls vs. Boys style mini leagues, through to getting older teens back into the game. One of this years highlights will be giving young girls the chance to play Netball in the facilities of their local football club, providing safe supervised sport in a professional location, as well as boosting links between the clubs and their local communities.

Liverpool FC are spearheading the operation, and it's hoped other Premier clubs will get involved in this great scheme.

Tavis Coburn - UNICEF Tap Project 2012

March, among other things, is also known as World Water Month, and if you'll be residing in the US during that time, you should keep an eye out for the UNICEF logo around town.

Tavis Coburn has worked with UNICEF and design studio Droga5 to create this years campaign for the Tap Project, a charity event being rolled out in participating restaurants and communities across North America. It gives you the chance to help the citizens of Third World Countries by funding the most basic of modern requirements; access to fresh, clean water.

All you have to do is pay $1 for your glass of tap water. If you would like to become part of the movement, visit the UNICEF page here, where lists of restaurants in your town or city will become available nearer the month.

Lyndon Hayes - New Exhibition "Places, Loved Ones"

The solo show, featuring a number of new paintings and art prints, is held at the Jeannie Avent Gallery, a short walk from East Dulwich Station.

The show runs until the beginning of February, so be sure to make the trip to a great part of South London this weekend.

Noma Bar - Cut/It/Out shortlisted for Designs of the Year 2012

Noma Bar has been shortlisted for the Design Museums Designs of the Year 2012 Award, for last summers Cut/It/Out exhibition.

The exhibition, which centered around a giant dog shaped dye cutter and the negative space images created, has toured around the country since it's opening at Online Editions last September.

The infamous award, which is separated into the disciplines of Architecture, Digital, Fashion, Furniture, Graphics, Product and Transport, also selects one piece as an overall winner as selected by an panel of judges.

We wish Noma the best of luck, and look forward to the results in April.

Joel Holland - McDonalds Breakfast menu

Joel Holland has recently completed a project with McDonalds in the US as part of their updated, healthier breakfast menu.

Their interactive info-menu of McMuffins and yoghurt pots is guided by Joel's stylised text, and buzzes with hand drawn elements that sprout up around the food, illustrating the homely direction the brand is now following.

Japanese artist Tadaomi Shibuya continues his series of work with Nike to produce the Chris Paul tribute Jordan CP V shirt.

Basketball followers will know Chris Paul as one of the current stateside superstars, who just last night led the L.A Clippers to beat Miami Heat 95-89 in overtime. The one time Olympic gold medalist joins a growing list of players rendered by Shibuya for the Nike range.

Dermot Flynn / Mary Portas & the High Street of the Future

This week saw the release of a Government commissioned report on the British high street by marketing guru Mary Portas, which visualizes the High Street of the Future with the help of artist Dermot Flynn.

The Portas Review, which can be read in full on her website, covers an Indepedent study into the decline of the local high street, and develops a strategy to revive the local community and trade. This includes everything from town management to a review of laws, and is a chance not just for small town bussinesses to challenge the dominance of big chains, but also for consumers to take part.

Dermot's illustrations are spread throughout Mary's report (pages 16, 17, 20, 23 and 27, specifically) but you can also veiw all four of them below.

Noma Bar - Cut Out The Light

Noma Bar is taking part in a very special exhibtion in Clerkenwell next month, expanding upon his recent Cut It Out show to create new pieces centered around use of light.

The show, which is open to the public from the 2nd till the 23rd of December, is based in the local SCIN showroom on Old Street, a stones throw from our own studio. Combining specialist materials and Nomas use of negative space, the event is sure to be awash with some very striking imagery.

There will also be a talk and installation by product design Jake Dyson, presenting his new LED Light technology which has a life span of nearly four decades per bulb, and his DMX Light system,tomorrow night at the private view.
