Most people see MLM as a hobby. Most people involved also end up having a hobby income. But MLM, Network Marketing or Direct Sales, is a business, a serious business, and only when a MLM entrepreneur starts treating it that way, the serious income will come.

Most of the time people get introduced through a person active in MLM, inviting them for a meeting. During the meeting a hype is created, a hype about the products and why we all need the products. A hype about the company, and why we all need the company. Some presentations are so good, that even when the products are not up to standard, the stories will get people excited.

The Pay-Out Plan

Then the pay plan is introduced. People get even more excited when they hear the various incomes. You are in, you are sold, point of no return. You are not letting your friend down. So, when excited after a meeting, there is a good possibility that the next morning you wake up and you start to think (the excitement has sunk away) “who am I going to sell these products to?” You are not motivated, you have too many products to sell. And who are you going to ask, family, friends, colleagues? Your sponsor has already asked you to make a list of people you know. He told you there are at least 200 people you know personally as a friend. You are too embarrassed to put even ten names on a piece of paper. And you know these ten names will buy from you. They trust you and like you and will help you. But can you build a sustainable business on these ten names. The answer is NO.

How to Start With MLM

We offer insight on how to start, how to handle and to think before you start. Otherwise keeping the money in your pocket and have a great day with the family. If MLM is seen as a hobby, man will not succeed and after a while they will be an experience richer, and some dollars lighter. Think before you act. Don’t think what they think. How your subconscious mind will uncover you

People often think about how others percept them, how others see you though their eyes. And we crawl into their minds and try to see what they see. But when you do this is your interpretation correct? Maybe not, maybe it is better to work on facts and facts only.

If you think what they think, they most probably will think what you thought. Yes, take your time to read that last sentence again.

Our minds work at full speed almost the best part of the day. And what most of us do not realize is that when we speak to other people we are actually communicating much more than just our audio signals.

We communicate hand signals, body posture, facial expressions, and variations of our eyes. Now all other people will recognize these body signals, if we like it or not, but they do. Even when their conscience mind is not consciously registering what their body is telling them. Their subconscious mind is definitely registering, and responding.

So if you think what they might think, you are probably communicating your thoughts and your perceptions with your body languages aswell. Their subconscious mind is now reading what you thought about what they might think.

Are you still with it? Or am I just thinking what you thought?

When their subconscious mind becomes aware of your body language, and the subconscious mind never lies, the conscience mind now will respond.

The best advise, do not think about what other people think. Just do what you do. But think before you speak.

Being self aware and basing information on facts rather then feelings alone, will keep communication more clear and effective.

Malaysia’s Food Obsession

Malaysia is truly obsessed with food, it is a food culture and the whole nation evolves around food. In this country one will never go hungry and the variety offered is enormous.

When Scuba Diving, When Does Your Buddy Check Start?

During one of our trips to foreign dive sites we meet sometimes brilliant people.

This tale will take you to the year 2003 in Northern Spain to a little fishing village called L’Estartit not to far from Barcelona.

I want you to meet my diving buddy Patrice; he was a bit of a weird Frenchmen, old tatty shoes, blue jeans, very colorful knitted sweater, an even more colorful scarf around his neck and wearing a pink cap. He must have been in his mid forties, bold on his forehead and long curly brown hear, nearsighted minus 11 on both eyes. He looked funny, but he also was very funny, and full of life. We had some incredible laughs together.

Risking Traffic

One day we needed to go to the shops for some groceries and he offered me a ride in his old banger. Driving through L’Estartit on the main road you will find huge ditches in the road to drain the water running from the mountains when it rains. Every time I warned him there was one coming up in front of us, he looked at me, while testing his shock absorbers. We flew from left to right, and I was hanging on to anything I could put my hands on

Then the look on his face changed in “oohw, this is what you meant “. When I warned him for the roundabout (big roundabout, with an even larger statue in the center), he missed the statue by an inch, and the roundabout completely.

First Dry Suit Dive

First time we met was the day before, on a dive boat. At the end of the day I heared he tested his dry suit for the very first time. Never in the pool, straight down to 22 meters. The dive was a disaster, from the tails he told us. I don’t have to explain which risks he took on a test dive like that.

Taking the Plunge

My own buddy did not feel well that day, when I turned up at the jetty on the sunny morning of my second diving day. Patrice was already waiting for me, waiving when my car was close enough for him to recognize it. He noticed I was using a dry suit, and asked me to team up with him to show him some tricks of the trade. We agreed on half an hour in shallow water, and then progressively take it a bit deeper on his second dry suit dive.

While I was kitting up I started explaining some techniques. Here I noticed that his eyesight was even worse then I thought. His nose was on my pressure dump valve to recognize what I was doing to it. You might be laughing but remember I went to the shops with this guy driving through a busy tourist area. He convinced me, he was an

experienced three star diver with CMAS and I did not have to worry a thing. I was not convinced, but more then aware.

Let’s Go Diving

The boat moored in one of the little bays around one of the islands of the Isles Mides. I’m all dressed up and ready to go. Hanging back on a bench and enjoying the morning sunshine. During my kitting up I always watch my buddy kit up. This for two reasons, one - to see if he is competent with his equipment, and two - I can help him when he needs me. I could see that Patrice was very competent in handling his dive kit. He had a bit of a struggle to get into the dry suit, but he managed to pull the seals over hands and head. I helped him with the zip. He tested the suit by putting lots of air in it, all was working fine I saw him putting on his weight belt, and going for his fins. He could not reach his fins (to much air in the suit), he cleared the weight belt and drops it behind him while he was still sitting on the bench. I stood up and walked to the back of the boat. The captain would let us as the most experienced divers go in last, and was taking care of some new students while I watched. The captain shouted to a group of Germans beginners, GO GO GO! I look at my friend Patrice, he responded to the captain’s voice, dropped his fins. Straitened himself, walked past me and jumped into the water. I was too stunned to stop him.

What was going through this guys mind, at that moment?

Like Bob the Buoy

The moment he hit the water, all the air in his suit was around his neck, and without his fins or weight belt he had no change of going anywhere. He looked like a big mooring ball with a funny smiling face. This facial expression, I will never forget. I threw a float with a line at him and pulled him back to the boat.

When he climbed the ladder, we could not resist to laugh with him. Tears we’re rolling down our cheeks. Even the captain, who never spared a laugh, walked away with a large grin from behind his moustache.

I will spare you the rest of the dive details, but I abandoned the dive after 25 minutes.

Later over a beer, he explained that his eyesight did not allow him to oversee the whole picture and he responded to the captain, as he thought it was time to go.

Buddy check starts when you walk onto the boat, until you enter the water together.

Asia learn to say; “no…”.

Asia is notorious for its bad manners seen from a Western point of view. Burping in public seems to be normal. Picking the noise deeply in front of other people or even in a restaurant seems to be daily practice in Asia. Scratching the backside while in public places is no exception. And spitting while people sit or walk is a regular seen habit.

Some countries are getting better and better, but some habits are imbedded in ancient old cultures and no one seems to care or worry about them anymore. But when arriving from the west, some of these old habits are part of the culture shock. Asians are adapting to western lifestyles and most countries are slowly changing and understanding that not everything they see as normal, is very polite to others.

There is another type of rudeness. A rudeness which is unprofessional, does not help trade, friendships or the community. And it’s the habit of not being able to say: “no”.

Asian public lives from excuse to excuse. They make up one excuse to cover the previous one. So called white lies are daily practice. No matter in which country you are around the Asian continent it’s everywhere the same protocol.

Coming on Time for Appointments

Coming on time at a preset appointment is professional. Coming late is normally accepted in Asia, however it hampers business growth, and from the person being on time point of view is rude. When one comes late for an appointment, no matter what the excuse might be, you are using someone else his/her time. Time, which is as valuable as your own time. Better to leave a message or call to let the other person know that you are not able to meet at the set time. Even more important to let the other party know, when you will arrive. That is more important than the excuse you have made up. The excuse only serves a peace of mind deal for person making it, and does not serve the other party. You were late, that’s the bottom line and respect is lost because of that. Learn to say; “no, I am sorry I can not be on time today”. Honesty is often the best advise, and will be more respected then excuses like, hospitals, accidents, weddings, sickness and the weather.

No message for cancellation

As a business man, one books his appointments well in time to make the business grow and try to book as many appointments in the day, taking in consideration, travel times, lunch and coffee breaks. But booking the appointment list too full, puts you under stress from the moment you look at your schedule. Better is to have lesser appointments on the day, and have the freedom to travel, have lunch leisurely. Able to get to your appointments on time, and you might even have time to prepare your meeting better, and visualize the appointment and the objectives. Being relaxed sells more products. If you really can not make it, no problem, but cancel well in advance so you are not wasting the other parties time and you can be professional about a reschedule of your planned appointment. Learn to say; “no, I am sorry I can not make our appointment today, let’s reschedule for next week”.

Saying yes, but meaning no

Often we walk out of a meeting and both parties agree to contact in a few days.

How rude is it to not answer that expected call? Often calls are not answered when the other party already decided not to go ahead with the agreement. More professional would be that you either answer the call and just say “no, I am sorry we are not interested”. Not picking up a phone call is very unprofessional and rude. Learn to say; “no, we do not take you up on your offer”.

Communication is the key to every business deal. It makes live easier, more pleasant and reduces stress. An open communication will leave the door open for future contacts. You never know when your contact might become important in the very near future.

The Malaysian National Art Gallery

National Art Gallery (Balai Seni Lukis Negara) has a permanent collection of work by contemporary Malaysian artists and rotating exhibitions of Asian and international artists. What Are We? Who Are We? Where Are We Going?

It is a universal question; “Was the big bang really the beginning of the evolution of the universe as we know it? Is the big bang theory really the start of everything? Or were there many Big Bangs before the Big Bang?”

Energy can’t be created nor can it be destroyed, this law of physics.

Where did the energy come from to make the Big Bang go “bang”?

Generation after generation must have asked the same questions. Who are we? Where do we come from? Where we are going? Why are we here?

Lots of questions that have kept us busy for many centuries and millennia. It seems that even with all the technology available, science is not able to give a conclusive answer.

Studies of physics have proven that the universe consists of two guaranteed constants, positives energies and spaces, and negatives energies and spaces. Other studies show that there is a third factor in the dimension of space, the dimension of time. But even in time we have positive time (time in the future) and negative time (time in the past) But looking at the core facts, this third force also could only exist of positives or negatives working onto the two constants in the first dimension. Basically positives and negatives make the universe tick.

Where positives and negatives meet is the moment of equilibrium, the moment of now.

Energy is Everything, Energy is Nothing

If everything in the universe is energy, then approximately one half of the elements are positive polarized and approximately the other half negative. Start of the law of attraction, the most powerful law of the universe.

If we look at the smallest element available in the universe we end up at tiny electrical energized parts which evolve around one center. If we look at the largest matter in the universe it does exactly the same. It always evolves around a larger object.

Linear never makes sense; there is always a deviation, which means that any straight line will end up at its starting point. Deviations must be caused by unbalancing effects, caused by energies. Seeing the bigger picture, this means that anything and everything evolves around something, big or small.

Where are we going?

We will be going in circles forever, evolving around other objects. Only time will tell us where we are going.

As Malaysia exists of three main areas, Peninsular (West Malaysia), Sabah and Sarawak (East Malaysia) on Borneo. Health issues vary from area to area, as some parts are more prone to tropical diseases because of forests and or swamps.

Personal Care, General Health

Being in Asia means being in the tropics, and temperatures rise here well above 32 degrees on a daily basis. During the day loosing a lot of fluids is normal, proper hydration with 2 to 3 liters of fresh water per day are a must for every person. At these temperatures bacteria thrive and the general advice is to treat all your wounds large or small, with utmost care. Do not leave any food lying around your living spaces, it will attract insects and little critters, which are not easily to get rid of once they have arrived.

The general recommendation by the Ministry of Health Malaysia, Public Health Department (Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia) for 2009 are.

Influenza A (H1N1)

H1N1 as it is most commonly known is at this moment the hottest health issue around the globe. Swine flu did not pass on Malaysia and is front page news nearly everyday. With nearly 2000 recorded case and 32 deaths at this moment, the treat of this aggressive flu virus is felt in this country too. The virus is contagious and is spreading from person to person. When you arrive at any border or airport, infrared heat sensors scan the incoming stream of visitors for detectable signs.

Health warnings can be found in almost all buildings and many portable doctors stations are set up in office areas and public buildings, for the public to easily find a doctor during work hours. People in the streets and trains are seen with mouth protection. Mainly germs spread the disease, wash and sanitize your hands on a regular basis, wear facial protection for mouth and nose, to avoid infection.

The symptoms of H1N1 are very similar to normal flu but more severe, coughing, chills, headaches, fatigue, overall body and muscle pains. Seek immediate medical attention when in doubt.

Sun and Sunburn

The sun stands high in the sky all day, even when clouds are blocking the sun light, ultraviolet rays are still burning down on your skin, wear protective clothing and when exposed use crème with a minimum SPF 15 (Sun Protection Factor), wear head gear if possible. Drink lots of fluids, preferable plain water.

Malaria

Malaria exists throughout Sabah. Malaria transmission in the rest of Malaysia is mainly confined to the rural areas, during daytime hours risk of exposure is minimal.

Vaccinations

Because of the tropical climate it is wise to vaccinate. Depending on the area’s you may visit various cocktails are available.

Non rural areas – minimum of Hepatitis A and B

Rural areas – Malaria, Yellow Fever, Hepatitis A and B, TB, Rabies, DTP.

Food

Studies done on various universities in Asia proof that food has changed over the last 30 years. The use of MSG’s (food enhancers) has increased accordingly. What we eat daily is less nutritious and contains more chemical elements. Healthy nutrition can off set the imbalance, and restore the body balance.

Weight loss means being prepared to change your food habits, once the basics are learned; it becomes a skill the brain does not have to think about anymore, it becomes a natural process.

We have to take time, to shop healthier, and make the efforts to spend well earned money on healthier foods.

Once a person is prepared to do this, nature kicks in and the body starts to perform better. Energy levels are restored; activity becomes fun again; as recovery periods after an exercise are reduced to a minimum.

Two options to come to the island, by boat or by plane. It’s not unusual to walk along the street in Asia, a car drives past and opens the window and the next plastic bag comes flying past. Or a policeman under a “do not smoke” sign, opens his pack of cigarettes and throws away the plastic wrapping and the remainder of his previous pack of sticks. Kids playing in the field and all of them drinking soft drinks but the empty cans are left behind in the field. The amount of rubbish and trash found even around housing estates is incredible and enormous.

Especially with adults I have the feeling to walk up to them and ask them “do you have kids?” “Yes; fantastic, and in which world do you want them to grow up?” The world you are creating with your plastic bags, your rubbish and your cigarette buds, or a clean and healthy environment. Of course the answer is clear, but people do not seem to care less.

Asia Wake Up and Do Something About It.

It’s not only in and around the cities and housing areas that we see these practices, but when you are on the bus or driving the highways by car, and realize the amount of rubbish left behind by construction companies, its enormous.

What Can We Do About It?

Keeping the environment clean is so simple, and it all starts with you.

Put a small plastic bag in your car, collect your own rubbish and throw it away when you make your next stop at a gas station. Separating your house garbage, in organic, glass, wood, plastics and metals is so simple.

Recycling does not start at the recycle plan, it starts at every home.

One person’s rubbish is another person’s fortune. Every city should have a collection point or call-in center where you can report what you have seen and or found, so that at least it’s reported and action can be taken.

We all should be aware of a healthier and cleaner environment.

We can educate kids in schools by a clean education program.

Worldwide Eco Initiatives

World wide many initiatives are taken towards a healthier and cleaner environment. But Asia stays behind, way behind. And we all can wait until the government starts to take action, or we as individuals can take action.

In Belgium for more than thirty years kids go out once a year and clean up a certain area of the city, until it’s squeaky clean, The next day they all plant a tree, to preserve and give back to the environment. Over a schooling career of ten years plant ten trees each.

In Holland divers get together once a year and dive for rubbish, to clean, ponds, rivers and lakes. Tons and tons of avoidable trash is collected and send to rubbish plants around the country.

Take Action Today

Walk around your neighbor hood, and visually check for rubbish, you will be astounded, about the amounts. It does not take one or two individuals, it takes teams of adults and kids who get together and start taking action.

Nature always wins. Let’s not pollute our own environment. Do something, and start today.

Pick up that broom and start sweeping your own backyard.

The 20^th of January 2009 America chose a black man, a colored fellow being, to be be the number one person in the country. Something unthinkable less than 50 years ago. Hurrah America, the world loves you! How must you feel, when you live in poverty in Africa, or in some southern state of the United States of America. When the news spreads that a black man, like you and your ancestors will be The President of the United States. Suddenly out of nowhere the man Obama appears. And not only just appears in headlines with his bigger smile than Jimmy Carter, but he arrives on the world stage. He came, he saw and he conquered. The President of the Unites States of America, the world’s most important leader, the center of al attention, the maker or the breaker. Like any president, a puppet on a string, but what a doll.

Charisma

Even white America seems to love this man, closed him in their hearts. How a warm charismatic smile and personality can change a nation. Yes, correct maybe his paperwork is a little thin. But who cares. Because this man is alive and seems to love us all. With his big wide arms and his warming smile, embracing us all.

Can we keep him alive?

For sure that Barack Obama is on many wanted lists at this moment. May god forbid that something will happen to this man. The man the world will love for years of history to come. The first black President of the United States of America is a wanted man. Price on his head, but a strong survivor, a leader till the end. But let us believe in the good of the United States and its first black president that through dialogue we can keep the world from more harm.

Berjaya Times Square Shopping Center has its own Mono Rail Station, and a large taxi stand and bus station all very close to the main entrance.

Berjaya Times Square is more than just a well air conditioned shopping center. The shopping center is squashed between two huge fortyfour floor towers. The West tower is the apartment building and the East tower is the four star luxury hotel. The two towers are connected by the shopping mall, the convention center and the swimming pool area.

Situated at Jalan Imbi, this total complex has the touch and feel of grandeur, and it is makes its name worth the while. The complete building is covered in beautiful brown marble which make the building shine and stand-out from anything surrounding it. BTS is a distinguished location and definitely part of the Kuala Lumpur skyline.

Berjaya Shopping Complex

Walking through the main entrance at Jalan Imbi, the shopping complex opens up like the inside of a cathedral. Open space must have been on the mind of the designing architect. Ten floors of endless shopping. Well available throughout the building, elevators and escalators all over the building. to get the visitor from A to B. Beautiful wide railings to make gazing over and inside the “grand cave” easy and an adventure by itself.

Shopping is an experience here and a well sorted array of stores offer their wares. Wellness seems a theme to be found around any corner. From hair salons, nail and facial centers to day spas, its all under one roof.

The tenth floor hosts a food court which is a variety of little kitchens cooking all sorts of local cuisine. Prices here are a little more friendly than the restaurants, however if one come from the western part of the world, nothing in Kuala Lumpur is really expensive.

Easy to reach by public transport, and if considering to bring the car, do not worry about parking at Berjaya Times Square, one of the nearly 4000 parking slots will be waiting.

Tourist or business, Times Square is definitely worth the visit.

Scuba Diving - 90 Meters Deep In a Swimming Pool

You probably think there are no swimming pools this deep. And you are one hundred percent correct. However I did a ninety meter deep dive in a four meter pool! We are talking serious technical scuba diving here, an extreme sport which attracts more and more people. People have been playing with various gasses as breathing mixtures for a long time, to make diving more safer in reaching greater depths. By mixing various gasses we can also reverse the effect. We are able to bring you under pressure in shallow depth, but we bring your head to a much greater depth. Gasses get toxic at certain pressures, and the following story will reveal how that feels.

Getting Narcotic While Scuba Diving in a Swimming Pool

A couple of weeks ago I went to France, to be part of an event for diving instructor trainers. The four days we’re extremely interesting, all sorts of new techniques where presented to us. And amongst us shared our diving and instructing stories from around the world. Tall stories as you may believe. The training agency offering this course, also educates people for the use of rebreathers and trimix or a combination of the two.

A rebreather is a mechanical or electronically controlled breathing apparatus, where the expired air travels through a scrubber unit to reduce or clean the carbon dioxide from the gas. The breathing gas is made breathable again. This is an ongoing process, and takes place in the breathing loop. When the oxygen content in the gas drops, and falls below the recommended limit, the unit will automatically put oxygen in the breathing loop.

Trimix and END

Trimix is a deep diving gas, containing oxygen, nitrogen and helium. When we dive on air (21% oxygen and 79% nitrogen) the gasses in air will give us limitations. The oxygen content will become toxic at depth. And the nitrogen content will give us decompression problems, and the narcotic effect of this gas at depth will reduce our ability to think and handle properly at depth, this effect is called nitrogen narcosis. It feels like being drunk and developing a heavy head.

To overcome these problems the amount of nitrogen in the gas is reduced by bringing a third gas to the mixture. Helium is a very pure gas which will have no effects when breathed by human beings. oxygen + nitrogen + helium is Trimix.

Depending on how much Helium we put in the mix the narcotic effect of the nitrogen in the mix will be reduced. The narcotic effect of the nitrogen is stated in END Equivalent Narcotic Depth, when compared to air. The END dictates where your head is. Your body might be at a depth of 70 meters, but because you breathe a trimix gas your head is only in 30 meters.

Diving with these gasses and mixture can be very dangerous, and can only .be done after extensive rigorous training.

Diving the Narcotic Gasses in the Swimming Pool

In Paris we had the opportunity to breathe a gas which had the opposite effect. Being in 4 meters of water with our heads at 90 meters. The four of us breathing from our normal scuba tanks filled with air, sat in a small square on the swimming pool floor. All of us holding hands like in a small marry-go-round In the middle of us was the cylinder with the magic potion equipped with a special breathing regulator. The person opposite of me was the first to go. He was having a good time; He was laughing and we could see his big smile behind the regulator in his mouth. We could read the fun he was having from his eyes behind the mask.

What an Unbelievable Diving Experience

Then it was my turn, I swapped my regulator for the special one. At first nothing happens, then after about a minute I felt a tingling in my fingertips, as if I where out in the cold walking into a warm room. I felt a tingling sensation all over my spinal court, I knew the gas was circulating around my body. I took a couple of deep breaths to speed up the process. The persons sitting next to me disappeared from my peripheral vision, the effects of tunnel vision where very clear. In front perfect focus, to the sides just a blur. I felt the same tingling in my feet, then a very warm feeling all over my spinal cord and shoulders again. All felt very pleasant. I could feel my head become lighter and lighter. To be honest, I knew I would not have been capable dealing with high demanding tasks anymore. I knew my name and where I was, but much more should not be asked of me. Lying on the swimming pool floor feeling happy was enough for me. I remember then when someone wanted to take the regulator away from me, I got very defensive. I handed the special regulator to the next person. I swopped back to my normal rig and after about two minutes my head was clear again. I nodded and it was time for number three.

Houston, We Have a Problem

Number three in our group, had a problem. The effects of the gas had a fast and much more immediate impact on this person. He lost control. He ripped the special regulator from his mouth and wanted to go straight to the surface. I immediately offered him my alternative air source. He refused and started crawling towards the surface obviously running out of air. I grabbed his chest strap and held him down. I stuffed my alternative air source in his mouth and after a few breaths he became calm again. I read from his eyes that he was okay. Slowly we ascended to the surface. His recovery was remarkable; but he could not remember what had happened a few seconds ago. He refused to believe it happened to him.

So, it is possible to do a deep dive in shallow waters, but needles to say it has to be done in a very controlled manner.

Diving on air to greater depths than 30 meters will have similar effects, the deeper you dive the more intoxicated you will become. Just stay within the safe diving limits. There is enough to see…

Food and travel are seriously inexpensive as long as one stays away form the Star B’s, Mac D’s and KayeFCee’s. Malaysia is a true Walhalla for backpackers hiking around the globe, relatively undiscovered and foremost safe. One of the best features of this country is that people leave each other alone. No hassling in the tourist area’s but friendly people who will make time for you for a courteous chat, helpful in directions or with navigating you around the Muddy City. Kuala Lumpur owes its nickname to the valley where the river Klang and Gombak created their muddy shores, it’s a modern well paved capital now.

Areas to Stay as a Backpacker in Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur offers a wide area of hotels. Where to stay as a backpacker? There are three main areas where cheap hotels, lodges and guest houses can be found, Chow Kit, China Town and Bukit Bintang. Some backpackers hostels and guest houses are found in China Town, but the majority is located in Tingkat Tong Shin and at the end of Jalan Bukit Bintang cornering with Jalan Pudu.

Tingkat Tong Shin is packed with guest house after guest house, and the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed, many nationalities find a safe haven here. Guest houses will make you feel welcome, most offer internet facilities, a locker and breakfast. But breakfasts can be found all around the area, in easy accessible open restaurants or street food stalls offering local delicacies.

Places to Eat in The City Center

Parallel with Tingkat Tong Shin, Jalan Alor which is a local food paradise stretches over 700 meters. The empty street during the day turns into a hustling and bustling open air food festival in the evenings. Local hawkers offer a wide variety of fresh catch. Choices range from Chinese, Malay, Indian or Thai cuisine it all can be found here. The large variety of fresh seafood delicacies is an amazing and tongue inducing temptation. Most restaurants offer a photo album; only an index finger is needed to point out the different dishes. Always ask portion size for one person, and order a variety of dishes. This will definitely offer a colorful variety of tastes and smells. When ordering fish, request a price first, a guest might end-up paying premium prices for average fish. Prices here are cheap for the quality of food offered.

Traveling In And Out of Kuala Lumpur

Backpacking from the Bukit Bintang and China Town area makes traveling easy. Everything is offered in walking distance. The main bus station Puduraya station can be found at Jalan Pudu and lays in between Jalan Bukit Bintang and China Town. Busses will travel anywhere on the Malaysian Peninsular, busses to Singapore leave every 15 minutes, and comfortable luxury sleepers are available for all corners of the country. Chow Kit is a little further from the city center, but easy to reach as there is a Mono Rail station in the heart of Chow Kit. Chow Kit is a great place to pick up some bargains and deals.

Backpacking and hiking in Kuala Lumpur is safe, fun and easy and above all extremely cheap.

Kuala Lumpur offers many alternative transport options. Bus, monorail, train and taxi are all fast and safe. Traveling this way also gives more pleasure, enjoyment and the best views of this magnificent city.

Kuala Lumpur by Air

Most people will travel to Malaysia by air, either arriving at KLIA (Kuala Lumpur International Airport), LCCT (Low Cost Carrier Terminal) both located 60 kilometers South of the city center or Subang Airport (Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport) 20 kilometers West of the city center.

From KLIA and LCCT there is a variety of transport options to make it to the city, busses, taxis and the KLIA Express; all take less than one hour to Kuala Lumpur City and the major Kuala Lumpur hotels. From Subang Airport the only option is by road, taxi is the fastest means of transportation and takes about 30 minutes to the booming heart of KL.

Busses Crowded But Fun to Do

Busses are a great way to travel, crowded but cheap in the city center. RM1 or RM2 bus ticket lasts all day. When traveling outside of Kuala Lumpur the bus is the best option. Inexpensive transport travels to any destination within the Peninsular. Buses leave from various bus stations in the city; KL Main Bus station Puduraya at Jalan Pudu, Putra Bus Terminal at Jalan Putra, Duta Bus Terminal at Jalan Duta and Pekeliling Bus Terminal near Titiwangsa. Most operators offer standard or luxury options. With the local bus operators any destination can be reached, Genting, Penang, Melaka, Johor Bahru, Langkawi, Kuala Terengganu, Kota Bahru and all other major cities including Singapore.

Driving a Car in Kuala Lumpur

Driving in KL can be disorientating as highways are not built like other major cities. Road users apply their own set of rules, drive carefully is the best advice. Major car rental dealer can be found at all airports.

Kuala Lumpur’s Unique Monorail System

KL Monorail is a perfect intra-city public transit system. KL Monorail operates from KL Sentral to Titiwangsa over a distance of nearly 9 kilometers. With its 11 stations stopping at major destinations in the city it is the most ideal form of transport. Over rush hour it might be a bit crowded.

Motorbike Not an Ideal Way of Transport

Thousands and thousands of small motorbikes swarm the city. Unless there is no other option renting a motorbike within the city is possible. Owners of cars have no respect for motorbikes.

Taxi Come In Many Colors And Sizes

Yellow cabs, abundant and relatively cheap can be found everywhere in Kuala Lumpur. Two main systems exist, vouchers and general pick-up. Vouchers can be bought at major taxi stands around the city. There is a set price from point of departure to any destination. Taxis should use the meter which should start at RM3 (US$0.90). When a taxi does not drive on the meter, find another one; or agree on a price. After midnight there are no rules.

Local Trains

This is where KL traffic really gets interesting. Five different train companies operate within the Klang Valley. They do not always inter-connect at the same location; hopping from one train to the next might take as much as a 500 meter walk. Monorail, Putra, Star, KLIA express, Komuter KTM are all reliable services and a great means of transport, cheap and pretty efficient.

National Trains Services

KL Sentral train station offers trains to serve the south all the way to Singapore, and the north to Kedah and Kelantan even crossing into Thailand and on to Bangkok. Trains are a magical means of transport; a variety of landscapes passes by while the traveler sits back and relaxes.
