the guys of *"At The Movies"* have been listing their top tens each week, say they posted for us to pick on website and it is a tight race between *"There Will Be Blood"* and *"WALL•E"*, and i know we listed 25 not too long ago, but two more years and decade just about up. and these visual threads (though not required) are usually pretty cool.

Post your #1 favorite movie of this decade.

For me it is a real toss up. there have been so many good ones and *"Oldboy"* is the one i am probably the most passionate about, but *"Batman Begins*" has entertained me the most and most viewed. I'll go with the tie for decade best.

AOL mail on Blackberry - server sync issues...

Hey all,

I have been on this topic over on some BlackBerry forums, and noone seems to know the anwer....

I have my AOL mail pushed to my BB - however, whenever I read the email on my BB, it instantly disappears from my inbox on my aol.com account. I want to be able to keep a copy on the aol server, so if I read it on my BB, it's still sitting in my actual AOL.com mailbox.

I have been doing some research, and on the AOL mail help page (here (http://about.aol.com/faq/openmailaccess#othermail)), i read the following:

Note: IMAP and POP3 are the major standards for reading e-mail. IMAP allows you to read your e-mail directly from the remote e-mail server and the e-mail will remain accessible on the e-mail server even if you use a different computer to access it later. POP3 requires you to download your e-mail to your computer before you can read it and the e-mail is deleted from the e-mail server as soon as it is downloaded, so the only copy of your e-mail is on the one computer used to read it. Due to security issues, e-mail programs that only use the POP3 protocol are unable to connect to the AOL/AIM Mail servers.

I have been doing some research, and on the AOL mail help page (here), i read the following:

It seems that my mail is acting in a Pop3 fashion - which i don't want. Others have claimed that their's acts in an IMAP fashion. I used the BB email setup wizard on my device to add the aol account.

I just did another test. I sent an email to my aol account. It showed up in my AOL.com inbox (and aol desktop software) as well as my BB. As soon as I read the email on my BB, the mail disappeared from the inbox on my aol.com account and aol desktop software.

I also just did another test....when the new email came to my BB, I selected "Delete from Handheld only" (WITHOUT reading it first). It deleted from my BB and stayed on my aol.com account inbox.

So, it seems that a copy is definitely not staying on the server, and that my BB controls the other inbox - so that would lead me to think that it is acting like a POP3 setup....

The mystery continues.... This is real frustrating because the ONLY way I can keep email on my account is to keep it as new on the blackberry (and I don't want to constantly have new message/unread message icons on my phone).

Any thoughts?

Thanks again,

Matt!

I was wondering if anyone knows what happened to Digiview Entertainment. The company that made those $1 DVDs that Walmart carried?

My Walmart pulled all of them quite some time ago and Dollar Tree just has all the old ones.

Their website just links to another company.
Exiles, The
Director: Kent Mackenzie
USA. 1961.
72. B&W.

Cast:

Yvonne Williams, Homer Nish, and Tommy Reynolds

Sherman Alexie and Charles Burnett present

A Milestone Film release

With music by The Revels

http://www.exilesfilm.com

Selected for the 2008 Berlin International Film Festival, The Exiles (1961) is an incredible feature film by Kent MacKenzie chronicling a day in the life of a group of twenty-something Native Americans who left reservation life in the 1950s to live in the district of Bunker Hill, Los Angeles, California. Bunker Hill was then a blighted residential locality of decayed Victorian mansions, sometimes featured in the writings of Raymond Chandler, John Fante and Charles Bukowski. The structure of the film is that of a narrative feature, the script pieced together from interviews with the documentary subjects.

The film features Yvonne Williams, Homer Nish, and Tommy Reynolds. The film shares a curious number of surface similarities with Charles Burnett's legendary Killer of Sheep: they were both gritty, frills-free depictions of marginalized Los Angeles communities made within about a decade from each other by young filmmakers who were both compared to John Cassavetes and Vittorio De Sica, they both have existed for decades without theatrical release, they both have been featured in Thom Andersen's film Los Angeles Plays Itself, they both have been restored by Ross Lipman at the UCLA Film & Television Archives and they both are Milestone Film & Video releases.

One of the significant distinctions between The Exiles and Killer of Sheep is that MacKenzie (unlike Burnett) was a definitive outsider to the community he was filming--he was a well-to-do white man from the East coast amongst Native Americans, Mexicans and Filipinos in a low-income L.A. community. Regardless, his sensitivity and his genuinely penetrating interest in attempting to understand the people in his film via filming them shines through (he, like Burnett, involved the stars of the film in the writing and filming process), curbing the tendencies towards sentimentalism and fetishization that often emerge in attempts to represent "the other." Despite (or because of) the fact that no other films at the time were (and still very few now are) depicting Native American peoples (aside from the overblown stereotypes in Westerns) let alone urban Native Americans, The Exiles could not find a distributor willing to risk putting it out theatrically, and so over the years it fell into obscurity, known and loved by cinephiles and admired for its originality and honesty by such Native American filmmakers as Chris Eyres (Smoke Signals, 1998) and Ben-alex Dupris (experimental filmmaker and writer) but remaining largely unseen to the public, including communities like the ones depicted in the film. The 2008 theatrical release will provide the opportunity to redeem this fact.
Bonus Features

Four short films directed by Kent Mackenzie including Bunker Hill 1956.

Los Angeles Plays Itself. Clips from Thom Andersen's masterpiece.

I had a mini marathon last night and I'm finally caught up with this. I have to say that I am so frustrated with this show. The Lynette storyline with her boobs and pregnancy is fucking stupid. Tom cheating in college is also stupid. Susan is Susan. Katherine is the one storyline that I feel is a fucking train wreck. The more weeks they drag out this obsession with Mike, the more the character will be damaged beyond repair...I think it's pretty much reached that point now. The one saving grace is definitely Gabby and Carlos. They crack me up every week.
