Whether the driving environment includes tarmac, gravel, bush tracks or even a raging creek bed – in sun, rain, hail, ice or snow, the Triton’s Super Select system exceeds occupant expectations for day-to-day commuting comfort.

Similar to the system found in Mitsubishi’s highly specified passenger
four-wheel drive Pajero wagon, the Super Select four-wheel drive system allows the driver to choose between four driving modes:

• 2H two-wheel drive high range is the perfect option for general commuting or highway touring in fine weather and promotes fuel economy.
• 4H full-time four-wheel drive provides added traction in inclement weather, or when the road surface becomes rough.
• 4HLC four-wheel drive high range with locked centre differential delivering power equally to all four wheels will ensure the Triton nimbly defeats most four-wheel drive tracks
• 4LLC four-wheel drive low range with locked centre differential is the answer when the going gets really tough.

A rear-diff lock is available as an option.
The first three driving modes can be selected on the fly.
The Mitsubishi Super Select four-wheel drive system provides the Triton with a distinct advantage over its direct competitors who continue to offer traditional part-time four-wheel drive systems across their 4x4 utility ranges.
The inclusion of Super Select four-wheel drive systems to all diesel VR , GL X-R and GLS four-wheel drive Mitsubishi Tritons is part of an overall model year update with vehicles due to arrive between now and December 2008.
Triton’s Easy Select part time 4WD system is retained on GLX 4x4 models.

www.dvg.com.au

DVG is Now on Facebook & Manual X-Trail diesel offers more performance and better fuel economy than its automatic sibling.

Nissan's X-Trail to become first volume-selling compact SUV to offer diesel power

NISSAN will follow Suzuki to become the second Japanese car-maker to offer a diesel-powered compact SUV in late July, when its second-generation X-Trail will become available with turbo-diesel power.

In response to customer demand, Australia's first diesel X-Trail could also be joined by a diesel version of the Dualis, if Nissan Australia can mount a successful business case.

Nissan has already ruled out the possibility of the seven-seat Dualis becoming available in Australia, and has now warned that the popularity of the diesel model in Europe, where it is known as the Qashqai, means both oil-burning Nissan SUVs will be in short supply here.

The diesel version of the new X-Trail, which was launched in Australia last October, employs the same M1D-codenamed, Renault-developed common-rail direct-injection 2.0-litre 16-valve four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine as the Qashqai/Dualis.

Two versions will be available in our X-Trail: an entry-level 110kW/320Nm engine mated only to a new six-speed automatic transmission, and a more powerful 127kW/360Nm iteration matched exclusively to a six-speed manual.

Nissan says both engines produce 90 per cent of their peak torque outputs from 1750rpm and, despite offering superior performance, the 127kW manual X-Trail diesel returns lower fuel consumption than its 110kW auto stablemate, 7.4 versus 8.1L/100km respectively.

Both X-Trail diesels will come in two specification grades, with the base TS based on the mid-range ST-L petrol X-Trail and the premium TL version sharing the same specs as the flagship X-Trail Ti petrol.

As such, the TS will come standard with twin front, front side and side curtain airbags, ESP traction/stability control, ABS brakes, seatbelt pretensioners, 17-inch alloy wheels, power windows/mirrors, air-conditioning, a six-CD sound system, foglights and chrome door-handles.

The TL diesel will add heated leather seats, climate-control air-conditioning and a panoramic sunroof.

Representing a $1000 premium over the existing X-Trail ST-L petrol, the TS manual will come priced at $36,990, while the TL will cost $39,990. Auto versions of both variants will cost a further $2000.

“The new diesel engines offer impressive performance in both manual and automatic configurations and reinforces the X-TRAIL’s position as an extremely capable compact SUV,” said Nissan Australia managing director and CEO Dan Thompson.

“The X-Trail diesel will be the first volume selling model in the compact SUV segment and we are pleased to be able to respond so quickly to such strong customer demand for this model.”

The move will see Nissan join a host of non-Japanese compact SUVs to be available with diesel power in Australia, including Jeep's Patriot CRD and Compass CRD (both priced from $33,990), Kia's Sportage CRDi ($32,490), SsangYong's Actyon ($29,990) and Kyron ($32,990), and Suzuki's Grand Vitara DDiS ($34,990).

While Land Rover's Freelander is the most expensive compact diesel SUV, priced from $52,490, Volkswagen will launch its all-new Golf-based Tiguan SUV in late May, priced from $35,990 with diesel power.

That's the same starting price as Holden's seven-seater Captiva diesel, and similar to other mid-sized SUVs like Hyundai's Santa Fe diesel (from $36,990) and Kia's Sorento diesel ($34,990).

Click here to Make an Enquiry or Call 1800 DVG 123 (1800 384 123)

(pics and data taken from Go Auto News)

www.dvg.com.au

HiLux Crushes Commodore!

HiLux crushes Commodore

Favourite: HiLux was Australia's top-selling vehicle bar none last month.

HiLux overtakes Commodore as an Easter-free April drives new-car sales to new highs

By MARTON PETTENDY 5 May 2008

AUSTRALIA'S new vehicle industry is even more likely to break the million mark again this year following record sales in April, when Toyota's HiLux was the first utility to become the nation's top-selling vehicle - and proved more popular than Holden's Commodore and the Japanese brand's own Corolla.

An all-time April sales record was driven largely by stronger business sales, as well as booms in the small-car, SUV and light truck segments, helped by the fact Easter fell earlier than usual this year in March.

Underlying consumer sentiment remained healthy in the face of interest rate rises last month, with official VFACTS figures from the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) today showing that a total of 84,061 cars, trucks and buses were sold in April - an increase of 11.2 per cent on April 2007.

Year-to-date the car market is now up by 5.1 per cent on the Australian industry’s all-time record year of 2007.

But with new-car sales to private buyers remaining relatively static with an increase of 0.6 per cent year-to-date, it is fleet purchasers who have driven much of the sales growth this year. Business sales are up a sizeable 12.6 per cent so far in 2008.

“While the April result was boosted by the early timing of Easter, which fell in March, the underlying sales trend remains notably strong and resilient,” said FCAI chief executive Andrew McKellar.

“The FCAI forecast of one million vehicle sales this year remains firm,” he said.

Overall passenger car sales were up a big 3603 vehicles or 24.0 per cent month-on-month in April, thanks to stronger sales recorded by small cars, SUVs, light trucks and buses.

Toyota attracted more than double the number of customers found by Holden in April, when Australia’s favourite vehicle brand sold a record 20,838 vehicles (up 27.2 per cent on Toyota’s April 2007 result) compared to 10,187 for Holden and 8246 for Ford.

While Holden and Ford trail in the top three with 12.1 and 9.8 per cent respectively, Toyota’s market share in April stood at almost one-quarter (24.8 per cent) – a monthly market share record for Toyota.

Toyota has now sold 81,062 vehicles after the first four months of 2008, with Holden finding 44,037 new homes and Ford attracting just 34,533 buyers. YTD, Toyota holds 23.3 share of the overall market, ahead of Holden (12.7 per cent) and Ford (9.9 per cent).

Top to bottom: Toyota Camry, Aurion, Holden Commodore, Mercedes-Benz C-class and Volkswagen Eos.

The remainder of the top ten selling brands for the month reflected their YTD positions, with Mazda fourth overall and claiming an 8.0 per cent share in April with 6749 sales – 18 per cent up on its April 2007 number and its best April sales ever. Mazda is now 10 per cent ahead of its 2007 YTD position, with 28,439 sales and a share of 8.2 per cent.

Mitsubishi remains fifth with 5007 sales in April (for a 6.0 per cent share) and 21,697 sales YTD (6.2 per cent) - ahead of Nissan, which posted 4935 sales in April (5.9 per cent) and 20,375 sales YTD (5.9 per cent). In seventh remains Honda following 4289 sales in April (5.1 per cent) and 19,448 sales YTD (5.6 per cent).

Rounding out the top ten are Hyundai with 3683 April sales (4.4 per cent) and 15,058 YTD (4.3 per cent), Subaru with 3158 April sales (3.8 per cent) and 13,473 YTD (3.9 per cent) and Volkswagen with 2440 April sales (2.9 per cent) and 10,290 YTD (3.0 per cent).

In terms of individual model performances, biggest upset of the month was the fact Holden’s Commodore was outsold not only by Toyota’s Corolla (as it was last month), but also by the same brand’s HiLux, which became the nation’s top-selling vehicle for the first time last month.

That’s right, the HiLux record 1608 4x2 sales and 2206 4x4 sales for a total of 3814 - an increase of more than 27.1 per cent on the same month last year, making it the first month ever that a ute, and a Thai-built one at that, was Australia’s most popular new vehicle.

Marking the first time Toyota has ever scored the “quinella” by having Australia’s two best-selling vehicles in one month, April also saw the Corolla find almost 400 more customers than the Commodore. So far this year, Australians have bought 15,724 Corollas - at least 890 more than any other vehicle.

The Toyota steamroller continued in the SUV sphere, with the world’s biggest car-maker also claiming the top four positions in the SUV best-seller’s list: Kluger, RAV4, Prado and LandCruiser.

Segment by segment, the light car win in April went to Toyota’s Yaris (2063 sales, 21.2%), ahead of Hyundai’s Getz (1448, 14.9%), the Mazda2 (1140, 11.7%), Suzuki’s Swift (1005, 10.3%) and Holden’s Barina ( 993, 10.2%).

The latter’s performance was 54.9 per cent up month-on-month and that of the new Mazda2 was up a staggering 109.6 per cent, while Honda’s sixth-placed Jazz was down 36 per cent.

Despite being down 11.3 per cent for the month and 10.9 per cent YTD, the Yaris still holds a commanding 20.6 per cent market share so far this year – well ahead of the Getz (12.5%), Mazda2 (11.9%), Barina (10.0%) and Swift (9.9%). YTD, the light car segment is up 3890 sales or 9.6 per cent.

The $25,000-plus light-car gong went to Peugeot’s 207 (186 sales, 59.6%), over Fiat’s new 500, which found 50 new homes (16.0%) to help make it Fiat’s best month since its passenger cars returned to Australia in 2006.

Fiat says it could have tripled its April result given adequate supplies, and the same brand’s Punto and Citroen’s C3 were the only other class entrants. The latter’s sales were down 25 pert cent in April, but the C3 is still the second most popular in its class so far this year (15.4%) – ahead of 500 and Punto, but behind the 207, which holds 60.8 per cent segment share YTD.

No fewer than 3722 Corolla sales in April (up 69.0% month-on-month, for a 20.7% market share) made it easily Australia’s top-selling small car. Second was the Mazda3, which found 2811 customers to give it a 15.6 per cent segment share and the best month of Mazda3 sales ever.

Honda’s Civic was third best with 1619 sales (9.0%), followed by Ford’s Focus (1465 sales, 8.1%) and Mitsubishi’s Lancer (1317, 7.3%).

YTD, the Corolla holds a 20.5 per cent share of the small car segment, ahead of Mazda3 (15.1%), Civic (8.6%), Lancer (8.2%) and Focus (7.7%). YTD, small-car sales are up 5042 or 6.8 per cent.

April’s mainstream mid-size segment trophy again went to Toyota’s Camry, which scored 2137 buyers (up 8.2 per cent on April 2007) and a 38.4 per cent segment share. There’s fresh air between the Camry and the new Mazda6, which was down 6.7 per cent for the month but still posted 942 April sales for a 16.9 per cent segment share.

YTD, the order is Camry (33.0%), Mazda6 (16.9%), Liberty (10.9%), Accord Euro (8.0%) and Mondeo (6.3%). The medium car segment is up 884 sales or 3.1 per cent so far in 2008.

The traditional large-car battle was again easily won by the Commodore, albeit with only 3324 sales in April (19.6 per cent down on the same month last year) for a 39.7 per cent segment share. By its own admission, Holden says the VE sedan’s 18.6 per cent April sales slump was “disappointing” but points out it was still 10 per cent up on the April 2006 Commodore number when the VZ was in run-out.

Ford’s Falcon found just 1884 buyers (22.5%) – only 23 more than Toyota’s Aurion (1861 sales, 22.2%). Falcon was down 16.5 per cent in April, while Aurion was up 8.5 per cent. Honda sold 935 Accords last month for an 11.3 per cent monthly share.

YTD Holden has sold 14,834 Commodores for a 42.3 per cent share of the large-car segment – down from its 19,494 and 44.6 per cent YTD 2007 figures. Falcon (7978, 22.8%) holds a more solid break over Aurion (7217, 20.6%), but remains 24.5 per cent down YTD, while Aurion is 7.8 per cent up.

The upper large segment saw Holden’s Caprice sales spike to lead the class with 145 sales – 29.3 per cent down on April 2007 but enough to give it a 40.4 per cent segment share for the month. Chrysler’s 300C (117 sales, 32.6%) and the Holden Statesman (86, 24.0%) filled the top three, but in YTD terms (605, 34.3%) still lies a close second to Caprice (668, 37.9%), with 300C (424, 24.0%) third.

Kia’s Carnival was Australia’s top-selling people-mover in April (368 sales, 33.9%) share), ahead of Toyota’s Tarago (214, 19.7%), Honda’s Odyssey (122, 11.2%) and the new Kia Rondo (121, 11.1%).

The top three is identical in YTD terms, with Carnival holding down 31.3% of the segment, ahead of Tarago (23.2%), Odyssey (15.9%), Toyota’s Avensis (9.2%) and Mitsubishi’s Grandis (4.9%). People-mover sales are down 852 units or 16.3 per cent in 2008.

Of the over $55,000 people-movers, Volkswagen found 30 new Multivan homes for a big 49.2 per cent share, ahead of Chrysler’s new Voyager (14, 23.0%), and a half-dozen sales apiece by VW’s Kombi Beach and the Benz Viano and Vito wagon. YTD, the Multivan holds out the Voyager, with a 37.6 to 34.2 per cent advantage.

With the exception of Alfa Romeo’s Spider and the VW Beetle Cabrio, every other entrant’s sales dived in April, when Mazda’s MX-5 (59 sales) placed third, Nissan’s 350Z (44) fourth and Peugeot’s 207 Convertible (42) fifth.

Total passenger car sales of 203,085 units is down by 1607 vehicles or 0.8 per cent on 2007 figures.

Toyota’s RAV4 again knocked off Subaru’s new Forester in April (1191 to 1107 sales), the pair streaking away from the compact SUV pack with Mitsubishi’s Outlander a surprise third with 824 sales.

Nissan’s new X-Trail scored just 757 buyers and the Honda CR-V just 578 – 32.9 per cent down. The RAV holds sway YTD with a 16.9 per cent share, ahead of CR-V (13.9%), Forester (12.7%), X-Trail (11.6) and Outlander (9.9%).

The medium SUV battle saw Toyota’s Kluger (1268 sales in April) post a 395.3 per cent sales storm to defeat the same brand’s Prado (1157) and Ford’s Territory (1073), with Holden’s Captiva gaining 909 buyers and Mitsubishi’s Pajero fifth with 553 sales.

YTD, the Kluger’s 17.8 per cent segment share has now surpassed that of the homegrown Territory (17.1%), as well as the Prado (16.7%), Captiva (13.5%) and Pajero (7.6%) and Mazda’s new CX-9 (6.8%). So far in 2008, Kluger sales are up an astonishing 282.2 per cent up, while Captiva is 26.1 per cent up and Territory is 9.7 per cent down.

In the three-way large SUV tussle, Toyota sold a staggering 1124 LandCruiser wagons in April (76.2% up) to hold a big 68.8 per cent segment share YTD. Curiously, the aged Nissan Patrol’s 2008 sales are also 72.3 per cent up. The Patrol holds a 29.4 per cent share, ahead of Jeep’s third-placed Commander (1.8%).

In the light commercial arena, Toyota’s HiAce Bus gathered 360 buyers in April and holds a near-monopoly 96.7 per cent YTD share of the bus segment, while the HiAce Van was similarly dominant with 955 sales and a 41.7 per cent share of the van category. It holds a similar share YTD – more than double that of Mitsubishi’s Express.

Finally, the two utility segments were both dominated by HiLux last month, when its 4x2 sales were up 24.2 per cent and its 4x4 sales were up 29.5 per cent. YTD, HiLux holds a 24.3 per cent share of the 4x2 segment (in which it’s up 4.3%) and a 27.9 per cent share of the 4x4 segment (in which it’s up 5.7%).

Also-rans in the 4x4 ute segment were the Navara 4x4, which found 1559 sales in April for a 20.5 per cent segment share and holds a 20.2 per cent YTD segment share. Third in April with 1013 sales was Nissan’s Navara, which holds a YTD segment share of 12.5 per cent share – narrowly ahead of the 12.0 per cent YTD share held by Mitsubishi’s Triton.

A YTD total of 347,514 vehicles is 5.1 per cent or vehicle sales ahead of 2007 levels, equating to a seasonally adjusted running rate of 1.094 million vehicles in 2008.

Click here to Make an Enquiry or Call 1800 DVG 123 (1800 384 123)

(pics and data taken from Go Auto News)
www.dvg.com.au

Mitsubishi Triton GLX 4x2 2.5 Diesel Ute Range

MITSUBISHI Motors Australia Limited (MMAL) has thrown down a value and economy gauntlet with its popular ML Triton pick-up by introducing a competitively priced diesel model for the two-wheel drive (4x2) versions.

Kicking off from $22,990 for the Single Cab and $28,990 for the Double Cab, the Triton 4x2 scores a new, 2.5-litre double overhead cam 16-valve common-rail with intercooler four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine.

This Japanese-built Euro IV-emissions compliant 2477cc 4D56 DI-D unit delivers 100kW of power at 3800rpm and 314Nm of torque at 2000rpm in the Thai-manufactured Triton.

It is only available in the mid-range GLX 4x2 model for now, in either five-speed manual or four-speed automatic guise for an extra $2000.

The former returns 8.5 litres per 100km, while the latter uses 9.1L/100km.

Triton 4x4 models continue with the 118kW/343Nm 3.2-litre four-cylinder DI-D turbo-diesel unit, which is from another engine family, and unavailable in Triton 4x2 format.

The 2.5 DI-D brings the number of engine variants available on the ML 4x2 pick-up to three. The 94kW/194Nm 2.4-litre four-cylinder and 135kW/309Nm 3.5-litre V6 petrol units continue.

Brakes are ventilated discs up front and a set of drums in the rear, while the suspension continues with the ML Triton’s tradition of double wishbones and coil springs in the nose and a rigid axle with elliptic leaf springs helping to keep the tail up.

Other Triton 2.5 DI-D specs include a 75 litre fuel tank, powered rack and pinion steering with an 11.4 metre turning circle, 16x6 inch steel wheels shod with 205 R16C110/108R 8PR tyres, and a 2500kg towing capacity.

Payload capacity varies from 951kg for the Double Cab auto (961kg – manual), through to 1031kg for the Single Cab Ute auto (1046kg – manual) and 1161kg for the Single Cab Cab-Chassis auto (1176kg – manual). There is no Double Cab Cab-Chassis version.

Mitsubishi is confident that the combination of diesel economy and value pricing will hit a sweet spot with buyers.

To this end, all vehicles include ABS anti-lock brakes with EBD Electronic Brake-force Distribution, dual front airbags, air-conditioning, cruise control, power windows, remote central locking, variable intermittent wipers, reclining cloth-trimmed front seats, seat-belt pretensioners, 16-inch wheels, heavy-duty high-riding suspension and a limited-slip differential.

As with all ML Tritons, the ANCAP crash-test result is a class-leading four stars, while Mitsubishi’s five-year warranty also applies.

The 2.5-litre DI-D gives the Triton a useful heads-up in its three-way tussle for second place in the pick-up sales race against the Holden Rodeo, Nissan Navara and Mazda BT-50 – and may even edge the Mitsubishi within striking distance of the leading Toyota Hi-Lux.

In fact, MMAL has priced the $22,990 GLX Single Cab between the $20,990 Ford Ranger XL 4x2 and $23,225 Mazda BT-50 DX, as the pair currently account for 85 per cent of all 4x2 diesel single-cab pick-up sales in the segment.

Similarly, the $28,990 Triton 2.5 DI-D Double Cab slots underneath the $31,590 Ford Ranger XL DC diesel (which commands 50 per cent of sales in its class) by a margin of $2600.

Along with the aforementioned Ford and Mazda pick-ups, MMAL identifies the $22,490 Nissan D22 Navara DX, $28,390 Holden Rodeo LX and $29,690 Toyota Hi-Lux SR as the main 4x2 single-cab diesel competitors, while the Triton 2.5 DI-D Double Cab 4x2 clashes with the $33,020 BT-50 DX, $34,990 Rodeo LX and $35,690 Hi-Lux SR double-cab combatants.

Since its launch in late 2006, the ML Triton range has been one of the main drivers of Mitsubishi’s sales resurgence, with the 4x2 and 4x4 recording a 34 and 40 per cent sales growth respectively year-on-year last year.

However, MMAL has not been able to offer a 4x2 diesel variant until now. “We’ve been effectively fighting with one arm tied around our back,” admitted product and project manager James Tol.

He expects to sell between 200 and 250 per month, with the automatic accounting for up to 40 per cent of volume, while around 60 per cent of buyers will choose the Single Cab 4x2.

“(We are also following) right through to competitors’ fleet pricing with our fleet pricing,” Mr Tol stated, adding that making automatic available throughout the 2.5 DI-D range will prove to be a decisive Triton advantage.

Meanwhile, MMAL has added cruise control availability on all Triton 4x4 3.2 DI-D models, while 17-inch alloy wheels are now standard on the GLX-R and GLS 4X4 Double Cab versions.

“(The new Triton additions) provide us with a foundation to cement our position as a major player in this segment,” Mr Tol believes.

Click here to Make an Enquiry or Call 1800 DVG 123 (1800 384 123)

(pics and data taken from Go Auto News)
www.dvg.com.au

Introducing DVG's Prosser and Midland Toyota Dealerships!

DVG is very proud to announce the addition of 3 new dealerships to the group.

They are:

DVG Prosser Toyota In the first quarter, Toyota sold 12,002 Corollas, while Holden sold 11,511 Commodores.

The contrasting trajectory of the two models is revealed when the figures for the first quarter of 2008 are compared to those of 2007. The Corolla has risen by 897 so far this year, while Commodore sales have slid a whopping 3259.

Toyota Australia sales and marketing director David Buttner said the Corolla quarterly win was an “important milestone for Toyota” but added that the small car had some help in achieving the victory.

“Market conditions have been especially favourable for four-cylinder cars such as Corolla,” Mr Buttner said.

“Summer holidays in January and the Easter break in March have probably reduced fleet purchases of larger cars. We anticipate sales of those vehicles will accelerate in coming months, supported by the introduction of a Commodore wagon and a revamped Falcon range.”

Mr Buttner estimated Corolla sales will continue to average 4000 a month for the rest of the year.

VFACTS sales for March also revealed the market actually slowed for the first time this year, easing off by 3.3 per cent (or 3107 sales) compared with March last year.

Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries chief executive Andrew McKellar said that it appeared that recent rate rises were beginning to have an effect on new car sales.

“We are yet to see any definitive effect on sales from the recent interest rate rises, although there was some evidence in March of fewer private buyers in the market,” Mr McKellar said.

Despite continuing fuel price pressure, Australian customers are still keen on SUVs, although they are walking away from large cars - down a massive 21.6 per cent for the first quarter as Australian manufacturers continue to struggle.
www.dvg.com.au

The New Peugeot 308!

The all NEW PEUGEOT 308 is to be launched in February 2008 powered by seven engine options with class leading aerodynamics and powered by a 1.6 litre HDi 90 emiting only 120 g/km of CO2. It is the start of a new “3” series family for Peugeot’s wit the 306 being first vehicle of the “8” generation, the Peugeot 308 five door hatchback will be launched in September.

Designed by Peugeot’s in-house designers, the Peugeot 308 builds on the successful concept of the Peugeot 307, with its semi-high architecture, large interior space, class leading safety equipment and high standards of road holding. The stylish design not only looks good but contributes to reducing fuel consumption and emissions, due to its class leading aerodynamics – Cx of 0.29 – enabling the 1.6 litre HDi 90 to emit only 120 g/km of CO2.

The Peugeot 308 will be available with 10 powerplant options:

Petrol engines *VTi – Variable valve lift and Timing and injection

1.4 litre VTi* 95 bhp 5-speed manual gearbox
1.6 litre VTi* 120 bhp 5-speed manual gearbox
1.6 litre VTi* 120 bhp 4-speed automatic gearbox
1.6 litre THP 150 bhp 5-speed manual gearbox
1.6 litre THP 140 bhp 4-speed automatic gearbox

HDi Diesel engines

• 1.6 litre HDi 90 bhp 5-speed manual gearbox
• 1.6 litre HDi 110 bhp 5-speed manual gearbox
• 1.6 litre HDi 110 bhp 6-speed controlled manual gearbox
• 2.0 litre HDi 136 bhp 6-speed manual gearbox
• 2.0 litre HDi 136 bhp 6-speed automatic gearbox

Safety is another strength of the new Peugeot 308, with seven airbags fitted as standard; even rear side airbags will be available as an option on 5 door models. Peugeot’s lane departure warning system (LDWS) and bi-xenon directional headlamps will also be available.

The increased size compared to the 307 results in greater interior space and carrying capacity. One day after announcing the closure of the Adelaide factory that produced the failed model, MMAL president Robert McEniry confirmed last Wednesday that the company would source a partial replacement for Australia. “The type of car that we would bring back into this segment, you will see at the motor shows, will be a totally different kind of car: green, diesel, all-wheel drive – all that sort of thing,” he said. There is little doubt Mr McEniry is referring to the Concept-ZT, which was revealed at last year’s Tokyo motor show. Larger than a regular mid-sized vehicle but not quite the size of a Commodore or Falcon, the ZT was presented with a diesel engine and an all-wheel drive system. Mr McEniry would not discuss details of the future model, or when it may go into production, but suggested the car would be a premium niche vehicle rather a volume-selling budget offering. He said it was too early to tell how many examples of the new model Mitsubishi Australia could expect to sell, but added the company would be able to react to the market demands. This was in contrast to building a car locally, which required a large volume of sales to remain viable, regardless of buyer tastes. “Until I have seen the car, driven the car, had a look at the market and environment I can’t tell what the (potential sales) fi gure would be, but if the market shifts we have far more flexibility,” Mr McEniry said.

The Concept-ZT features a 2.2-litre four-cylinder common-rail diesel with piezoelectric injectors and a variablegeometry
turbo to deliver 140kW and 400Nm. It uses a twin-clutch automated manual transmission linked to Mitsubishi’s S-AWC
all-wheel-drive system. The concept car also features an aluminium space-frame chassis to save weight, although it is unlikely such a feature would make it into production. When Mitsubishi presented the vehicle last year at Tokyo, it was very careful to outline that it was only a show car that may never make it into production.“This is only a concept car. We haven’t decided if we are going to make a large car at all,” Mitsubishi Motors Corporation president Osamu Masuko told GoAuto.

The hints dropped by Mr McEniry last week indicate that Mitsubishi has made a decision to either build a production version of the concept car, or something very much like it. It is not yet clear whether the production version of the Concept-ZT would be built as a premium model only or whether it would replace the Galant (the US version of the 380) as a range of vehicles that would also include a premium model. Mitsubishi Australia is also expected to fill part of the gap left by the 380 by offering a version of its Lancer small car with a 2.4-litre engine. With more torque, the special Lancer would be a premium model and would come with a range of extra equipment. MMAL would not go into details of the 2.4- litre Lancer and GoAuto understands pricing and an arrival date is yet to be locked in.

(Images and Article care of "John Mellors; Go Auto News")

www.dvg.com.au

Details of the possible replacement of the Mitsubishi 380!

Mitsubishi exits the local large-car market in March but the Concept ZT from the 2007 Tokyo motor show is set to become the Japanese brand's imported rival for the Falcon and Commodore. But it has renewed significance now that the demise of the 380 is imminent.

Mitsubishi says the Concept ZT was a styling exercise but closer inspection revealed it was nearer to the finished product than the company was letting on.

The 380 replacement is still about two years away from arriving in showrooms but the concept provides some telling insights.

In every dimension it is larger than the current model Mitsubishi sedan and also has a host of advanced technology features, such as a pedestrian-friendly front end, self-parking technology and all-round views from inside thanks to tiny cameras.

The cameras are most likely to be replaced by conventional mirrors but the pedestrian-friendly bonnet and self-parking technology are strong possibilities for the real car.

The concept car also previewed what Mitsubishi calls its "most advanced, clean-burn" diesel engine.

If this vehicle is to replace the 380 sedan, it's likely Mitsubishi Australia will continue with a V6 petrol engine but will supplement the line-up with a diesel option. The addition of a diesel engine is significant. Even at the 11th hour Mitsubishi Australia was examining whether it was economically viable to put a four-cylinder petrol engine in the 380 sedan in a bid to appeal to fuel-conscious buyers. A diesel would broaden the appeal of the new car.

If this car comes to Australia to replace the 380 it will probably take on the model's international name, the Galant. Sadly, one thing is certain: the new model won't be built locally and Mitsubishi is yet to announce whether it will be built in Japan or the United States, the largest market for the car.

Speaking to the motoring media in Melbourne this week, the day after he announced the Adelaide factory closure and the loss of 930 jobs, Mitsubishi Australia chief executive Rob McEniry said it was too early to say when the 380's replacement would be on sale in Australia. However, he expected Mitsubishi eventually would return to the large car class - as an importer.

McEniry also said it was Australia's, not Japan's, decision to close the local factory.

"Mitsubishi Japan put in $1.5 billion of their money over 10 years, that's $150 million a year, to keep the factory in Australia," he said. "They fought very hard but we recognised it was no longer viable."

(Images and Article care of "Drive.com.au")

www.dvg.com.au

The 2007 DVG Christmas Party

www.dvg.com.au

Hyundai i30 named "Carsguide Car of the Year 2007", and "Carsguide Green Car of the Year 2007"!

Hyundai i30 CRDi has won the prestigious CARSguide Car of the Year 2007 and the CARSguide Green Car of the Year 2007 award.

From an original 48 contenders the field was whittled down to 11 finalists by a national judging panel comprising Motoring Editors and senior Motoring writers from around Australia.

The panel of nine spent three days poring over every car in relevance to interior functionality, fit and finish, build-quality, space and ergonomics. The full extent of the relationship
will be revealed in the coming weeks when City bosses launch the program in
Thailand, the home country of the clubs owner.

Through Mr Spence’s company the opportunity exists for the Glory to benefit from
youth academies which will be set-up in locations where Karama Resorts operate.
“We could also tap into City’s sports science and coaching set-ups to ensure best
practice is applied here and we also anticipate having some of their players coming
to Perth to play with the Glory.

“On the flip side our players here will be given a platform to visit Manchester City
during the off season to help in their development and showcase their talent,” Mr
Spence said.

Fantastic business opportunities are also expected for sponsors of the Glory who will
gain exposure in growing Asian markets with both Manchester City and Mr Spence
committed to development in the region.

The exciting partnership is further confirmation of Australia’s rise in football
prominence and Perth Glory’s strong reputation as a leader in the sport in this
country.
www.dvg.com.au

Perth Glory news 27th oct

NEXT HOME GAME

Perth Glory FC v Wellington Phoenix

Friday 2nd November, Kick off 8pm at Members Equity Stadium

Purchase tickets online and save up to $5 off the gate price and avoid the queues on game day.
