The Digital Domain Media Group (DDMG) is a busy entity, working on Bryan Singer’s Jack the Giant Killer and the upcoming Tom Cruise film Rock of Ages. But their planned collaboration with Twofour54, starting in 2013, is big news.

Twofour54 is a studio backed by the Abu Dhabi government. They plan to open a major production complex in 2015 with up to 500 employees. This new facility will provide animation and effects for the global market.

The Chinese Dangerous Liaisons starts Zhang Ziyi (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), Jang Dong-gun (The Promise), Cecilia Cheung (Shaolin Soccer), Shawn Dou (The Flowers of War) and Lisa Lu (2012).

I will be very interested in seeing this film. However, I was more a fan of Milos Forman’s Valmont than of Dangerous Liaisons. I wonder if there will be a Chinese version of that film as well?

Long, long ago… in the late 1970’s… around the same time that CBS did a marginally successful Spiderman series (with rope-like webs and a Spider mobile — prolly because web swinging was way too expensive), the TOEI Company did its own series for Japanese audiences.

The story-line veered completely from the story we know in the USA. Still… the series does hold some interest for those interested in all things Spiderman.

In the video widget below, you can see Episode 14 of this 33 episode series. Entitled Dedicate the Song of the Powerless Brave to My Father, the Iron Cross Army suspects Spiderman’s secret identity and uses it to kidnap his closest friends and family.
