The concept of the exposition titled ‘GENESIS-18’ has been conceived with a view to bring to the audience a collection of art works which in many ways provide an insight about the contemporary art movement in India today. It can in no way assume to be definitive but an attempt a significant representation. The striking features of the artworks of the participating artists show they straddle diverse cultures whereas still voicing the present context of Indian social, cultural and political life. The exhibits provide an introspective and sometimes uneasy glimpse into modern India, yet are collectively global in their presentation. This exhibition is a acknowledgment and appreciation for the influential antecedents of this genre of art. Clearly, the narrative has changed as these works demonstrate figurative and abstract, impatient yet unhurried, ancient spirituality fused with modern ethos. It is amazing to determine the resemblance in direction of thought of all participating artists who come from diverse milieus and circumstances nevertheless belonging to the same inner sensitivity to come out with the intention of sharing, discussing and spreading the ideas of growth and evolution with their fellow social beings, to be able to lay down the concrete building blocks for the upcoming generations.

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Sun, 03 Jun 2018 06:08:00 +0000

The Giraffe Heroes India Program

A Giraffe Hero is a person who sticks his or her neck out on sustainable basis, for public good, at huge personal risk. Giraffe Heroes India Program is an off-shoot of non-profit Giraffe Heroes Project which was started in USA in 1984, by Ann Medlock. The aim of starting this Project was to find out unknown heroes of the society, commend them as Giraffes for sticking their necks out & get their stories told on radio, television & in print. Giraffe stories would tell the people that there was headway being made on the problems of the world, that there were individuals who had solutions & the courage to move into action. The stories would move people`s souls & get them moving on public problems that mattered to them.

Some days back, a brief write up, about Giraffe Heroes India Programme (GHIP) was published in Dwarka Parichay, our media associate.

THE JAPANESE CONNECTION - The Sakura Science Programme 2018

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Fri, 01 Jun 2018 09:53:00 +0000

According to a Japanese quote "the three sources of happiness in a person's life is when we have something to do, something to love and something to hope for". For the six students of Grade XI – XII, Om Pathak, Abhishek Solanki, Shivay Madan, Esha Pillewar, Vatsala Hira Divyajot Kaur and the HOD Physics – Mrs. Manisha Agarwal, the learning exposure during the trip for the sponsored Sakura Science High School Exchange Programme of Japan, proved to be such and much more.

Held from 20th to 27th May 2018, the prestigious programme was conducted by JST (Japan Science and Technology Agency) in association with the Government of Japan. The Sakura Science High School Programme (SSHSP) aims to deepen the knowledge of the Asian youth in Science and Technology thus contributing to the promotion of innovation and development in the subcontinent. JST directly invited and sponsored 68 participants from India and 18 participants from Philippines in co-operation with the relevant government agencies.

The Sakura Science High School Programme included an enlightening lecture and experiment class by the Nobel Laureate Prof. Hideki Shirakawa, for fabricating a conducting polymer EL device at the Rikkyo University.

The Sri VIS team also had the privilege of visiting the Nippo Steel and Sumitomo Metal Cooperation, where they saw the making of steel sheets at very high temperatures. However, the most awaited visit was to the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation (Miriakan) where students met the ex-astronaut and Director of the Museum Dr. Mamoru Mori and gained through an exchange of ideas and sharing of the life experiences in the space of the astronaut. The museum is engaged in futuristic science like Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Humanoid and much more.

Students were fortunate to witness the magnificent Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) where they saw the Space Control station of Japan & understood the Astronaut’s training program. Sri VIS students enjoyed the hospitality and warm interaction with Japanese students at the Namiki Secondary School. Students of the school in Japan were gracious enough to teach the group origami, as a timer ticked on by their side. A visit to Graduate School of Frontier Sciences, University of Tokyo allowed a firsthand experience to see the various departments and super conductors personally.

Team Sri VIS left the University for the JST office where a closing ceremony was held. A representative each from Philippines and India thanks the SSHSP Coordinators and appreciated the initiative and hospitality of all involved including the Ministry officials, Scientists, JST team and JICE officials.

Apart from being a technologically advanced country, Japan has a very strong and vibrant culture. Visits to the Mejii Jingu shrine and the Edo Tokyo Museum made the group familiar with the exotic history and ancient culture of Japan.

This programme provided the group with the opportunity to unfold the ingenious realms of Japanese culture. Awed by the humility and the courtesy shown by the Japanese Nationals, they brought back rich memories. Sans any prejudice, the people in Japan always greet each other graciously with utmost respect. An extremely punctual race, they are never late even by a minute. This habit is a legacy they pass on to their children.

The warmth and the cheerfulness of the Japanese won the hearts of Sri VIS group and the knowledge gained was priceless. The group hopes to be more innovative and focussed to adopt and reflect on Science and Technology Projects in school and outside. The trip was a rich learning experience that motivated the young students while strengthening the Indo-Japanese ties. We hope to see more students pursuing their higher education/research/career choices in Japan and experience its world class infrastructure and work ethics.

Undoubtedly the group with a sense of ‘koi no yokan’ that a future connection is inevitable after the first meeting' with the Japanese intelligentsia.

Summer vacations commenced with a delightful sojourn for the students of classes VI to X. The school organised a 6-day trip to Manali for the students from 15th to 20th May 2018. Almost 80 students escorted by 8 teachers set off to the enchanting hills by bus. The itinerary was planned brilliantly where the students could enjoy and gather adventurous experiences the most.

First day was the most exciting for the students as they stayed in tents at Highlander Camp adjacent to Beas river and participated in numerous thrilling activities like Flying Fox, Commando Net, Bamboo Rope etc.. The evening turned musical by an arrangement of a programme where the students danced together cheerfully on the latest Bollywood numbers.

The next morning the group headed to River Crescent Hotel , Manali. On the way to the hotel they got an opportunity to participate in the most thrilling activities , River Crossing. They were taken to the spot where they crossed the swift flowing icy brook in groups. They were tied with the ropes to ensure their safety and cheered by the spectators while walking across the narrow river. The unrestrained laughter and excitement filled their day with a great and unique adventure to be cherished forever. Post lunch the students went to explore one of the oldest temples in the hills , Hadimba Temple. The beautiful and natural alfresco of the temple was a feast for the eyes. The students learnt about its history and got fascinated by its simplicity which is still maintained. The day became more pleasurable with shopping at Mall Road and the students bought beautiful souvenirs for their near and dear ones. The DJ Programme organised for them at the hotel at night added another moment of ecstasy.

On the third day the group proceeded to Solang Valley where they enjoyed trekking and riding on bikes. The captivating beauty of the hills kept the students mesmerised. The awesome snow-capped mountain peaks emancipating a spell in the surrounding gave an immense opportunity to capture the picturesque grandeur in cameras.

On the day of the return to Delhi the group halted at Manikaran Sahib Gurudwara which is renowned for its divinity and hot springs. The students enjoyed holy langar at the Gurudwara and offered their prayers .The entire trip was a great exploration for the students and enabled them to learn through new experiences.

Moulding Digital Generation into global leaders with Human Values

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Wed, 30 May 2018 10:08:00 +0000

Dr. (Mrs) Rajee N Kumar

Principal
N.K.Bagrodia Public School, Dwarka

As an educationist, through this eternal journey in pursuit of educational excellence, we encourage the students to bear a great sense of belongingness, responsibility and compassion for the fellow human beings. We believe that, children are born with innate talents and potential, which just needs to be chiseled with the investment of motivation and guidance to bring their shimmering qualities to the fore.

With advancement in science every year, new technology renders the latest gadgets obsolete. Nothing is permanent and change is the reality of life. Keeping this in perspective, even the teachers who do not change with time could become obsolete, as the gadgets of bygone years. To keep ourselves abreast with the changing pace of time, we, the educationists need to update ourselves and be in sync with the thoughts and ideology of the new generation, “Learning is a journey from the womb to the tomb". Learning never stops and teachers should concentrate on psychoanalytical techniques to impart proper knowledge flow without encouraging rote learning to boost students’ morale and intelligent quotient. For teachers the three R’s- Respect, Rapport and Recognition are the cardinal principles of teaching the adolescents. Always leave a mark in their lives by being an approachable teacher and a mentor whom they will remember fondly throughout their life.

I also urge the parents to interact with their children with love, not with anger and use total positive thoughts instead of negative emotions. It is always seen that, whenever, children commit mistakes we, as adults, let off steam and the children only develop skills to cope with parental pressure and teachers’ anger, by hiding facts and in the process, everyone loses sight of the main issue. So remember, children will listen and learn only if you deal with them lovingly and rationally. Parents must listen carefully to their wards and give quality time and have patience to remove the behavioral viruses entering their homes. This can be done, by having family lunches or dinners together with healthy discussions without the television and internet intruding your conversation.

21st century skills are the skills today’s children need to thrive in school, college and beyond. The 3R’s- learning basic Reading, Writing and Arithmetic is still a must. But this is not enough, as our children need additional cognitive skills to withstand today’s competitive world. They need to synthesize information to communicate effectively and to collaborate in the process of development. The world has transformed into a knowledge economy. Apparently, the present generation, needs to be differently motivated as they are brought up on internet. To this purpose, employment of technological advancement is quintessential!

We venture far beyond narrow thresholds; in a global community consequently, comprehension of global issues besides the importance of health and wellbeing is indispensible. Hence, nurturing 21st century skills such as adaptability, leadership, collaboration, flexibility and self-direction, we ensure global survivability. As a 21st century teacher, one needs to pull oneself to be a role model for the students, advocating positivity to inculcate self belief. A modern day teacher can make a difference in the lives of children playing multifarious roles nurturing young minds to be an agent of change.

Let us enlighten ourselves with the vibrant colours of education so that we bring up the digital generation who will develop into global leaders with human values.
