Descendants Review

The Descendants is nominated for some Oscars and like allot of films sometimes we get them late or even after they may have won an award here in Australia. So it is of-course hard not to have a present guarantee of excellence expected when seeing a movie that's nominated, especially when the cinema markets it that way.

I really hate films like The Descendants from a review point or even trying to explain to a friend. It really is simply a movie about a guy who's wife is in a coma. Of course there is more texture than that. It's a film about about family, relationships, trust, growing up, take responsibility and I'm sure a hell of allot more. But that really is all subtext and not really the plot and the plot for The Descendants is really simple and a hard film to explain for that reason.

George Clooney does play the lead Matt King and is really fantastic. His ability more so in his recent years to magically blend deep emotion and comedy into one is something itself. He wouldn't stand out as much as he does without the perfect supporting cast he has though. Shailene Woodley and Amara Miller make up his oldest and youngest daughters and give fantastic performances. A film about family needs a believable one on the screen and they certainly are.

Nick Krause's character of Sid also adds some nice light hearted comedy to the film in moments when it may need it and even in moments when it doesn't.

One of the things The Descendants does so well is mix all these strange elements into one film without rubbing out one of the other completely.

Matt King (George Clooney)

Unfortunately this does make it a hard film to market and I think I got the pure experience of that in my cinema. Two young girls just talking and making fun of any dire and very sad moments or mocking the characters sat behind me. I don't know if they expected something else but I kind of think they did. The trailer doesn't really express what this movie is and it certainly isn't your general 'chick flick' sappy movie with a love story that girls can easily attach to and hopefully all have a cry about. The Descendants is a rather mature movie in it's story ideas and presentation.

The Descendants to me was more a study of human nature than anything else. It's sad, it's funny but it really is about these characters and watching them squirm and grow.

Super Hero Movies are the thing, they basically have there own genre now and have nearly been done to death but they haven't got the 'found footage' or 'handy-cam' treatment Esq; Blair Witch Project, Cloverfield, Paranormal Activity.' In his first feature Director Josh Trank gives it that and attempted to pull of something different but falls a bit short.

Dane DeHaan, Alex Russell and Michael B. Jordan all get some kind of super-powered gene that is never explained and that's fine because we don't need to know.

The three stars all give career kicking off performances. The on-screen banter and comedy between the three is very believable and understandable for there age. They get telekinesis so they start scaring little girls in a store and just doing pranks. Never is there the mention of the line about 'we need to use these powers for something greater, like being superheroes.' No, they're just young kids who are doing stupid and funny things with these powers and just having a bit of fun and DeHaan, Russell and Jordan all make this very believable and funny to watch on screen.

Chronicle makes some bold plot moves and some not so bold ones. The trailer and premise seemed to have allot more potential in it than the movie pulled through with. Chronicle plays with the idea of what young kids would do with powers and then in the case of DeHaan's character, Andrew, what a tortured soul and someone under high stress would do with these powers. Unfortunately the plot just doesn't pull through with the premise.

The ending in Chronicle is just very lackluster and seems to come out of left field and to fast even though from the start you know that it is coming. It never deals with any of the ideas it seems to gather and simply boils down to just a movie about teens with super-powers. Which although was a at times funny and an interesting thing to watch especially with three really interesting characters, it just boils down to that and never takes it foot of the mark intro something more.

Andrew (Dane DeHaan) hones his skills

Chronicle has some really good performances and good special effects considering the type of movie this is. The ability to use the characters telekinesis to move the camera around was also a smart move but the plot just doesn't pull this one in for me

In Hugo Director Martin Scorsese has taken 3D and made it his own. In Hugo he has also crafted one of the most enjoyable films ever and for a film so different to the rest of his catalog one of his best.

Hugo Cabret is played by Asa Butterfield and is suburb as a kid lost in the world just looking for where he fits in. Hugo says he pictures the world as a machine and machines never comes with spare parts, so naturally he must have a place somewhere. That is the heart of this film, fitting in, finding your niche and of course friendship and love and all the usual stuff. However Scorsese does something amazing in Hugo's side characters. By the end of the film you will have felt like your seen them all go through some kind of story as well and sometimes not even related to the main plot. It was really great to be introduced to an entire cast of characters and at the end feel like none of them were there for no reason.

You will have several characters featured in Hugo as-well since the film is centered inside a train station. Recurring characters come from shop owners and in Sacha Baron Cohen's case; the Station Inspector. Cohen really does bring allot to this film as the Inspector to. He is seen as the bad guy, but you never hate him, you just laugh at him and eventually grow to love him.

I could go ahead and write an entire article on how perfect the cast in Hugo is but that'd be a bit much. Chloe Grace Moretz and Ben Kingsley deserves high mentions as they both gave performances that I wouldn't expect and hadn't seen for a long time.

Sound and Visual Design is top of the game here also. The music is very French at times but then also wondrous and magical just like this film. Visually Hugo is just a beautiful movie and every detail on screen is just amazing.

The Station Inspector (Sacha Baron Cohen)

No Hugo isn't the next Narnia so don't let anyone fool you with that. But this is still just as magical of an experience full of intrigue and wonder. Hugo is the story of a boy who really just pushed and pushed because he wanted answers. The films second half which is somewhat a history in cinema doesn't feel like a different film; everything ties in just right.

Don't let anyone try and tell you this is a 'kids' film either. Those Tinker Bell straight to DVD films are 'kid' films, this a film for everyone and can be and should be enjoyed in hoards. Hugo is an amazing film and if you can -- watch this movie in 3D because it's the best I have seen. I never felt like I was watching a '3D Movie' it's just all part of the experience. The experience you should to, get to experience.
A Doctor Who game is not something I would have thought would be big on peoples priorities of licenced material to bring out. Especially considering how little it is known really outside of the U.K. Sure they say that the TV program is at the height of it's popularity but after seeing an American morning show program where all three or four hosts proclaim how they have never heard of this weird little gem; I didn't expect a game.

The Eternity Clock is a downloadable game however so that makes the cost allot cheaper and ultimately if it did sell well it could bring in allot more money.

The first thing developer Supermassive Games have done right is get Matt Smith and Alex Kingston to voice there respective characters. How they could easily stuff it up is by not recording enough lines and I'm left hearing three funny one liners from River Song throughout the entire game.

The second thing they have done right is make this a side-scroller. Not only have side-scrollers come back allot and are generally accept as a genre again thanks to the downloable market and games like LittleBigPlanet or in-fact New Super Mario Bros Wii. The style suits the source material perfectly. As any-fan of the Doctor Who TV show would know the Doctor runs a hell of allot and he doesn't use a gun or have super wall jumping powers. Having this game be a side-scrolling platformer is a really good choice and I'm actually quite happy with that.

Presumably there will be puzzles as there was in the failed DS and Wii games and simply because puzzles would suit a Doctor Who game. This would be easy to stuff up and make them boring and derivative but if anyone looks at the Professor Layton games on the Nintendo DS and also the Ace Attorney game, puzzles can be engaging to the player. Please just don't make me run through the game pointing my Sonic Screwdriver at everything a blowing it up.
Resident Evil 5 wasn't a bad game it just wasn't a good 'Resident Evil' game. But the first trailer for Resident Evil 6 doesn't look to be taking it back so I guess I'll move on from that problem and accept what is now a RE game.

The trailer shows 3 different characters all of which I am assuming will be playable in different chapters or something similar. Leon Kennedy is returning since being on leave from Resident Evil 4 and the trailer opens with him and gives you what looks like a more dreary and less action paced Resident Evil game. But this is just the start of the trailer and my hopes of that where quickly de-railed after seeing Chris Redfield's bit. The camera is close and when he is seen running down a street it reminded me allot of Gear of War's look. Even the way he was hiding behind cover at one stage looked very much like an action packed 3rd Person Shooter. We are also introduced to a new bold character that I think looks allot like the 9th Doctor Christopher Eccelston but that's neither here nor there.

The game takes place in different areas of the world and since it has several different characters it could all be separate tales but I'm going to go ahead and assume and hope that they all tie into one cool story.

There's rumors of 6 player online co-op which I am sure will annoy all those that hated the inclusion of co-op in the last game but it sounds cool to me if done right, hell this whole game sounds cool to me if done right and let us hope it is.
I wasn't a big fan of the last Resident Evil movie, I remember thinking it was one of the worst 'take your brain out' flicks I had seen in a long time. But here we are again with the fifth installment in the franchise and once again it's going to be in 3D.

The first trailer released is really a stupid trailer--yeah I said that. It opens with a promotion video for Sony products which is all fine and dandy for the PSVita a gaming platform I think needs the promotion but in a movie trailer this obviously product placement, uh, no.

Basically half way through the 1:20 trailer we finally get to see something (unless there was some cool easter eggs in the back of the product placement crap) interesting. Alice is wearing a Umbrella corp uniform for a start which is weird considering she's fighting against them and there's 1950's army dudes in the background. So this could be taking place in the past which the rest of the trailer helps back up since it shows allot of scenes that HAVE TO be taking place in the past or else it simply wouldn't make any sense.

Michelle Rodriguez's character is returning after her death in the first film, but what does death mean in a sci-fi genre type movie anyway? Leon Kennedy will be making his first appearance in the film versions which is cool for fans of the games and other than that? Well there will be hopefully allot less overused stupid slo-mo than the last film and the plot actually may go somewhere in this film. I can only hope as I really would like to enjoy this entry into the Resident Evil franchise.
This is the final episode of Sherlock season two and it's based upon the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle story in which Sherlock and his arch nemesis plummet to there death together. Like most Doctor Who or general Steven Moffat fans I knew and dreaded who was writing this episode; Steve Thompson. It's nothing personal against him he's just written some of the worst Doctor Who episodes and wrote the second and worst episode of Sherlock season one. Here he has the Raine's on the final episode and one hell of a story.

Steve Thompson after all my worrying succeed here delivering one hell of and episode that I'd say is better that last weeks 'The Hounds of Baskerville' but still not as good as 'A Scandal in Belgravia.'

The only problem with telling this story is trying to make Jim Moriarty feel like a bigger character then what he has actually been. We still haven't seen him that much throughout the entire two seasons and now he's an entire episodes focus and we're to know he's Sherlock's biggest threat.

Andrew Scott's performance as Moriarty is really something you can either hate or love and I love it. Sherlock's not the exact same here as he is in the original works so why should Moriarty. He's allot more playful and allot more sinister. What's more scary then Scott's performance as a psychotic grown man just looking for a challenge in the world? I don't know either.

Jim Moriarty (Andrew Scott)

I haven't gone into any big spoilers so far in these Sherlock entries and I don't ever plan to unless noted in the article title. Just take that into count when I say the following.

In the opening minute we see Martin Freeman give one hell of a performance in a psychiatrists office or something of the sort. He seems to be breaking down and he manages to stutter out 'my friend... Sherlock is dead.' Freeman's performance here with those opening lines is one way to start of an episode on high toes and of course we get told 3 months later and the episode plays out.

The way it does play out it something interesting altogether. With the opening heist played out without any tension at all and more as something funny to suit Moriarty, then we jump to something of a courthouse episode for 10-20 minutes. The episode then moves pace again and again before it's all over and even though it switch's through gears like this, the episode is still paced out so well and can be fun, sad, exciting and over before you even want it to be.

Will Sherlock return for series 3? I kinda doubt it as of the moment.

I really enjoyed the Swedish film 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo' which this take is based upon, though ultimately it all comes back to Steig Larsson's book. The original was only released in 2009 and although I was highly interested in this film because it was being Directed by David Fincher, I still felt it was to soon.

Although I do believe each and every film even if it is a remake deserves to stand on its own, here being so close to the original it really is quite hard no to compare the two at all.

Noomi Rapace played the original Lisbeth Salander and she played it very stern and something of a one sided character. Rooney Mara plays her here and actually improves allot more on the character. From the get-go she seems allot more human than Rapace's interpretation. Where hers seemed more like a mystical beast of a human something that couldn't possible be so stereotypical goth like; Mara's is allot more likable. Which isn't something easy to pass on as the character isn't someone easy to feel attached to right away or even like in the end. Rooney Mara delivers a more emotional and stronger Lisbeth and I liked the character allot better here than in the film I watched two years ago.

Comparing Michael Nyqvist as Mikael Blomkvist in the original to Daniel Craig here is a dead wall. The character and portrayals in the both versions are very similar. Although here I found Craig's on screen presence actually pretty good as a writer and not an action hero. The Mikael Blomkvist character was never one that interested me wholly but acted more as a vessel for the interesting story and world he was in.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is shot beautifully even with the darker undertones through-out the film. It is entrancing to watch especially with the score and music used. It plays out and feels like something of a techno-detective mystery.

I defiantly left the film deep in thought but it wasn't about the dark and sometimes sinister film I had just watched. I was trying the think why this film is better than the original. Sure I loved Rooney Mara as Lisbeth here and the film looks and sounds so great but overall what did this version bring that the original didn't? The ending was allot better and by the end the Lisbeth-Mikael relationship was something I understood more. But other than that this stands out as a really good movie that just feels totally un-necessary.

Acting: 8.5

Writing: 8.0

Direction: 8.0

Production: 8.5

Overall: 8.0

The team of James Bobin, Jason Segel and Nicholas Stoller have managed to revive the Muppet's franchise and create one of funniest cinema experience's I expect you to have this year with The Muppet's Movie.

This Muppet's movie does well in acknowledging the fact that the Muppet's brand has seemingly died of in the years and the time in which it is being released. Plus it doesn't take it self to seriously delivering self acknowledging lines, knowing that this is a film and bringing some of the usual Muppet's humour to a new audience.

The cast is a fantastic line up. Peter Linz plays the new Muppet Walter and the film starts out with Walter and Jason Segel's characters growing up as kids and adoring the Muppet's. I gathered that the two of them hired out a random Muppet's movie from a DVD rental store based simply upon the cover and then grew to love it in the period of time that the Muppet's have somehow disappeared from peoples minds and TVs.

Starting the film this way is a great way to allow young kids to automatically attach to Walter since he is new to the universe. Considering some of the older Muppet's film, they seem to expect the audience to know all the characters and then we're to get along with the plot. Here the film, not a reboot of the Muppet's franchise in general, but something of a new entry point similar to the way some comic book series work we have the ability to introduce new viewers and for older viewers to still enjoy it and the way the characters are re-introduced Esq Blues Brothers style.

Segel and co-star Amy Adams are a joy to watch on screen as is the rest of the cast. The two of them seem to bring a shine to screen together and fit in with the Muppet's very easily. There are also a few celebrity appearances, non of which feel over-used or under-used, which I was expecting after reading there was a few of them. There timely and fit into 2012 perfectly. Chris Cooper plays the films 'bad guy' as Tex Richman and he's the only person in the entire film I felt didn't fit into the world, his portrayal of the character just seemed a bit of beat to me.

The music here is one of the biggest stars. Songs are a joy to listen to and allot of fun to watch on screen with the dance routines and general way there put together. The songs are actually quite funny and I assume Flight of The Concord's Brett Mckenzie had something to do with this as he was 'music supervisor.'

Other than the fact that Coopers characters seemed of beat to me there is little to stop me from highly recommending you go watch this film. I left the cinema and felt like the world was a cruel and dirty place after this film --which it may be-- but I consider this a compliment to the film and how much of a joy it was.

Tower Heist to me seemed like a cool idea and one that could easily be quite funny, unfortunately I was wrong.

Brett Ratner to me is the guy who did the Rush Hour films which I like in some ways more than others. But here his direction along with what seems like a first draft of a script have put together a rather boring action/comedy with barley any redeeming features.

Ben Stiller, Eddie Murphy, Casey Affleck, Mathew Broderick, Tea Leoni. Sure I'm just chucking names at you without any context, but that's what this film did. With such a varied cast list with different types of comedy and personality's it would seem like a cool list of people. But everyone in this film is just wasted.

The acting is fine however especially considering the material there working with here. The characters are lame and present no redeeming quality's for anything to make you care.

Admittedly I did get a couple laughs out of this film but still walked out feeling like a just watched a mess of a film. Worth checking out? No not really.

Acting: 6.0

Writing: 3.5

Direction: 4.5

Production: 6.0

'The Hounds Of Baskerville' opens and starts with what seems an episode of 'Being Human' which is funny because Russell Tovey is in it. However he plays a scared Were-Wolf in that, here he's just playing someone scared of a Were-Wolf type creature.

Tovey's character Henry Knight is the man that manages to drag Sherlock and Watson out of London for basically an entire episode which was great.

It was oddly fantastic to see Sherlock driving a car on the open road and not ordering some Taxi driver around that may or may not be wanting to kill him.

This episode also explored a bit more of the unknowing Sherlock. The doubtful and scared Sherlock that we don't expect to see and neither does he himself.

Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) and John Watson (Martin Freeman)

One of the best moments other than Sherlock's mental break down was hearing Sherlock admit that John is his only friend. Which I'm sure John never doubted but it's nice to see more emotions where Sherlock becomes less of a robot with an understanding for everything bare human emotion.

The Hounds Of Baskerville was once again and interesting case to watch as a viewer simply because I followed the same emotions as Sherlock at most points. This isn't a Sci-FI show I was telling myself, there cannot be actual beasts out there, there has to be some kind of logical explanation. Sherlock is following the same kind of wave length with a few changes, especially the part about this not being a Sci-FI show, he wouldn't be thinking that.

Once again a wonderful episode of Sherlock this week. So far series two has shown it self to be way better than the first series in terms of writing and directing. The cast as always is great even if I feel Russell Tovey was wasted a little.

None the less next week we will hopefully be seeing a huge and maybe final showdown between Sherlock and Moriarty in The Reichenbach Fall.

A Tintin movie sounded like a great idea but when I found out it would be animated with mo-cap suits I was a little wary, especially after seeing the first trailer. The animation style looked weird to me and this could be because I'm not used to a style that is sitting so closely between being real and Pixar. But I grew to like it even though in some scenes I enjoyed the style allot more than others.

If you don't know anything about Tintin then you probably live outside Europe. He's a prominent fell known comic book character there. He's something of a cross between Sherlock Holmes and Indiana Jones, smart yet on these huge adventures.

Jamie Bell plays Tintin and is great but he works allot better once Andy Serkis's character Captain Haddock is introduced and the film truly takes off. Tintin really does start a bit slow and you feel like the opening half hour could have been cut down a bit, but I assume Director Steven Spielberg felt it was necessary to slowly ease into this world and its characters.

Andy Serkis is the standout of the film but Daniel Craig was defiantly brilliant as well playing the bad guy Rackham. If someone hadn't told you that was him he is just unrecognisable in a good way. Which is a good way to talk about the technology used in Tintin. Every actor portrays there character in a mo-cap suit and they track every movement and eye lid blink. Daniel Craig on screen seems to always be playing the same sort of role but this is the first movie since doing James Bond I've seen him expand into something else, which is fantastic.

The Secret of The Unicorn is a fairly simple adventure plot and reminded be oddly allot of the video game 'Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception.' There's a secret, a treasure, funny characters and of course a rich bad guy. It's the basic stuff but it works so well and can be enjoyed by the whole family.

Tintin has some fantastically paced action scenes, edited perfectly. But the film also has a few scenes that just drag a bit.

The ending is a pure setup for the sequel and you never feel like you've experienced any sort of complete story but this is still a lot of fun to watch.
03/01/12

Martin Freeman seemed like a weird choice to play Bilbo but this trailer sorted that out easily. What I didn't think about is the fact that this is a younger Bilbo before his big adventure, before presumably he becomes allot more somber, serious.

With those opening moments and the line 'I'm a Baggins of Bagend' I was set, I understood now and was ready.

Unfortunately as exciting it was to see this trailer it just seems all over the place to me. There's a little bit of comedy chucked in there but then half way through everyone starts singing a my mood gets chucked out the window and by the end of the trailer I'm confused.

No I know that this movie isn't a comedy and that's not what I'm saying. What I'm saying is that this trailer doesn't sell this movie to me if I wasn't sold already.

Still it was great to see a first trailer and great to see Ian Mckellen as always.

Sherlock was one of the biggest surprises to me back in 2010. A TV series with three movie length episodes that managed to keep me pulling through the DVD set one after another.

Season two is here now and it has a lot to live up to in my standards, luckily it does succeed.

Picking up right where season one finished in the somewhat silly and cliche cliffhanger Watson and Sherlock have a few to many guns pointed at them and no way out. Of course they manage to get out of the situation (or else how would the show continue) but the way in which it happens was totally un-expected and out of the left field.

Lestrade's escape and disappear act seems to push Sherlock of edge for the opening of the episode. His target escaped and got the better of him and anything but catching him is boring. Until Mycroft, Sherlock's always loving brother pushes him into a case involving Irene Adler and things once again become very interesting for him. She's a mystery and a kind of opponent he hasn't dealt with before.

I loved every episode in the first series but it's very easy to say this is defiantly the best so far. Steven Moffat writes a very smart, twisting and turning episode that is once again backed with a wonderful cast.

I'll say this now and get it out of the way; Benedict Cumberbatch is Sherlock Holmes to me. I know his Sherlock is changed and obviously modified for the 21st century but he is just so darn good and embodies that role. Martin Freeman's chemistry with Cumberbatch as Watson is as good if not better this episode.

But the standout for me really was Lara Pulver as Irene. She really is amazing, beautiful and such a mystery on screen. Having followed Sherlock's enemies last season I was just as baffled with her as Sherlock was at first, but then I really grew to love her.

Sherlock still looks and sounds like a bigger production than what it really is. With the wonderful cinematography and the score to match the mood always spot on the dial, it really is hard not to get immersed in this world and the story.

I really have no qualms with 'A Scandal in Belgravia' at all which is so strange. I could go watch it again right now a enjoy the hell out of it and still be fine. It really is just some of the finest TV on now and you should be watching.

Next week I hope the bar isn't dropped in Mark Gatiss's episode The Hounds of Baskerville after being set so high. Also Next week features Russell Tovey in it as Sir Henery, and I always enjoy him on screen.

I can admit I am in love with Christopher Nolan and everything he did for the Batman Universes and that The Dark Knight Rises is my most anticipated movie of 2012. But I won't admit that I have seen the teaser trailer 20 or more times as of this writing.

So my opinion might be a little biased because of the love between me and Nolan but that doesn't stop me from saying this teaser is as teasery as hell yet it makes me awe everytime.

The end second or two just after the title is my favourite bit simply because it gives me goosebumps.
*UPDATE*

03/01/12

A proper trailer for my most anticipated film of 2012 how could I not have watched it about a trillion times already? Well because that's impossible but I still have watched this trailer a hell of a lot and it gets me so damn excited every time.

We get a look at Ann Hathaway's Selina Kyle, Hardy's Bane speaks in this trailer and we get an explanation for the now infamous (I assume) Hanz Zimmer score piece that seems to tie around the entire film.

'Rise' the man says in the topsy turbey prison looking area and I shout Rise back as well.

Not to mention the trailer ends on a high with a look at the unnamed flying vehicle we can just all assume is the Batwing. Then the music fades into the original Batman theme we got introduced to in Batman Begins. Nolan's said this film takes everything full circle and I'm taking that as proof.

All of this and the fact we actually see a big set piece (assumable) moment from the film in the trailer and it manages to give nothing much about the plot away, amazing.

This is an amazing trailer and I cannot wait til this film is out.
The Spiderman movie reboot will always have to be proving itself to me until I've seen it and have a proper judgment. I just can't take the movie seriously knowing how quickly the franchise is getting a reboot and it really is ridiculous.

Not to say the trailer doesn't look good because it does. Andrew Garfield fits in the Peter Parker role perfectly and putting Emma Stone in as Gwen Stacey was a good choice.

The 'Mirrorrs Edge' Esq footage at the end of the trailer was also pretty cool and hope that's in the actual film not just the trailer.
I loved the first Paranormal Activity for offering non-gruesome genuine scares and a fresh piece of film on the horror market. However, with the way the franchise is going I might have to redact my 'fresh' from the score.

The third in the franchise goes all the way back to when Katie is a kid and now we get to see what she was talking about in the original movie. Was it at all necessary? No. I enjoyed the second but it was no where near the original and unless this one takes the franchise in another direction I doubt this will be anything but another OK sequel .

The guys who did the documentary 'Catfish' and helming this which is interesting on its own level but not enough to get my excited.
The problem with remaking a movie that was mostly a teen audience is that the teens today haven't heard of the original. A movie like Conan gets it's own self promotion by someway saying 'hey there remaking Conan' and most people respond 'why?' Schwarzenegger has allot of recognition for his role in the original and allot of fans will find it hard for anyone to take that place.

The other problem is that this movie seems to take it self allot more serious than the original did in an unintentional kind of way.

The film looks cool and should be a romp to watch but I'm not really interested.
I never finished 'God of War 2' and still haven't and I obviously haven't played 'God of War 3' but I did love the original but never thought that it needed a sequel. Prequels however do interest me if the prequel makes sense. God of War had two 'Chains of Olympus' and 'Ghost of Sparta.' Both of which where originally on the PSP and I played one of, the former I never got round to playing.

So like me if you've missed these or never owned a PSP and love the GoW franchise this is as good a time as any to check out these titles. Expect them to look a little bit better on PS3 but don't be expecting either to look as good as GoW3. Though I will expect them to play as well since there going to have analog stick control on the port.
I loved the original 'Spy Kids' that came out when I was a kid and watched the hell out of my tape. The second one was my least favourite and 'Spy Kids 3D' really just felt like a one time gimmicky thing but I remember having fun. The 3D back then wasn't what where all seeing these days but the new Spy Kids is implementing that and a smelly piece of cardboard.

This is obviously for kids and you can't argue with that and don't expect anything more than that. Sure it will properly be a terrible film but will it entertain kids? Hell yes. If I was a kid and I was seeing a cool movie where kids are kicking ass that are my age and have a talking dog voice by The Offices Ricky Gervais I'd go nuts. Then introduce the 3D and I'd think I was in the future until you told me I had to sniff a piece of cardboard. At which point I'd think I must have time traveled into the way distant future.

If every kid has the same reaction to this as I think I would this movie will give allot of fun to the kids.

I might actually even go see this simply to try out the ridiculous of it all. I'll probably leave the cinema upset and not pleased but I know that going in.
It's a mouthful of a title but the film contains a mouthful of a cast. By that I mean a wicked cast that got me excited for the movie straight of the bat before even watching the trailer.

Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, John Hurt, Toby Jones, Mark Strong, Benedict Cumberbatch. It would have to be one of the best cast line ups I've seen all year.

But obviously that doesn't mean the movie is going to be good and I won't find out till I see the film. But the trailer does a pretty darn good job of making me want to watch it now. The whole set up of the spy in the ranks made me say 'Usual Suspects' and the 50's Esq cold war era styling of the movie just looks fantastic.

If the movie can be confusing without being ridiculous like the title and take me on a thrill ride I'm in. If the film also provides some wonderful cinematography, music and writing this could be one of the best films this year.
First of a ridiculous title simply because 11-11-11 is the day Skyrim releases and I go into hibernation, but we're not here to discuss that.

11-11-11 didn't interest me until the last 20 seconds of the trailer where it picked up. I'm up for a good Devil/End of the world movie like anybody. Which reminds me, are they ever going to remake 'Omen 2 & 3'?

The first miniute or so of the trailer simply looked and sounded to much like a B movie. Which would be cool in it's own right but don't try and sell me something ridiculous and do a chessy job at doing so.

You don't see many good horror movie of late and it would be good to have one. I like freaky stuff over the gore anyday and this looks to weigh them evenly hopefully.
Ever since '300' it's been hard to have a fantasy/warrior epic that's trying to achieve a cool art style to itself. Immortals is hitting that same button and not helping it self on the way.

Halfway into the trailer you'll see the 'From the Producers of 300' which is a dumb move to make straight off the bat. Sure it'll draw in the crowds that take that as word that this will be as good as 300, but when it isn't this film will be faced with comparison after comparison.

The casting doesn't look any good either. Henry Cavil, Mickey Rourke and John Hurt just don't look to suit their roles in anyway, especially Rourke.

Immortals looks to have some good looking special effects but ultimately it does have the same style as '300.' It even has a bunch of characters wear masks.

Immortals doesn't interest me one iota but if this is your kinda thing, sure, check it out.
