Nothing "Dry" About This Site

Dry Icons.com has got to be one of "Thee Best Sites " which I had the pleasure of stumbling upon recently . These guys produce some of the best Web Related Designs out there on the cornerstone of the www. ! Like what you ask ? Well...let me tell you :

For starters : This site runs as smooth as Satin Sheets ! It loads as if it were an Ajax based site and that alone makes my Browser love them even more . Now aside from their beautifully smooth running site , these guys over @ Dry Icons possess skills at coding and a creativity to match those skills. I don't believe these guys ever stop creating & producing everything & anything Web related - it's like a bakery that keeps turning out muffins ! except in the case of Dry Icons its...yep , you guessed right : ICONS !

Dry Icons must definitely have every single Web Related Icon you will ever need ( whether you are a Web Designer , designing a personal Web Page or simply running a personal or biz Blog ) - these guys have left nothing out . I definitely remained on their site for 2 hours just going over everything and every time I went to the next page I was like " Ohh..this is NICE ! " . There was nothing on this well organized & splendidly designed site which I did not like ! Yes, there are many well designed sites out there such as Dry Icons you will say , however : This site is a Web design Site , fueled by individuals with a fervor for creating some of the best Web Related Content out there . However : what makes these guys over at Dry Icons even better is : Everything they do create is For You ! the User . Which simply means : Everything they create and offer on their site is ....yes -FREE ! .

The price of the License is peanuts ( in comparison to what the boys over at the Mighty Wordpress offer on most of their Templates ) . Now what I will tell you about these 2 Templates designed by those creative geniuses over at Dry Icons is this :

The following five ( 5 ) Sets of Icons are simply a must see . They are truly beautiful as I am certain you will also agree , check them out ...

Well, as I have stated : I am a Web Junkie & I love anything which spells Design with a capital " D " ! I am always searching and looking out for the best designs and I'm really happy when I stumble upon truly original design & I want to share it with you .

So, since the Social Icon Craze is rampant here within the vestiges of cyberspace , as everyone is always searching to have the very best on their pages from widgets , backgrounds , social icons etc.. I have located some truly beautiful icons for you today and I am happy to bring them to you , and I hope you will enjoy them as much as I did discovering them .

The first of our Social Icons come from a very talented artist / web designer Valentina Olini and they are beautifully colored glossy RSS icons which come in png format and they measure 162px W-x-148px H ( yes , they are BIG ! ) however : you can resize them by setting the parameters of your choice . If you dont know how , please see prior post HERE explaining what you can do .

These icons are the ones featured on the main post image ; they come in 4 different brilliant colors of , lime green , orange , blue , and pink ( like the one on my header - which has been resized ) . As you can assess , they are very smooth & beautifully classy .

Now this following set is simply awesome ! Its transparent , and it comes in both White & Black . A stunning RSS set I'm sure you will agree and will make any page with similar colors look as classy as a Cadillac ! - these will also blend in beautifully if you have Red elements in your page ( Red , Black & White are a sure shot winner, and Im sure after you see these up close you will agree that they are awesome ! ) : Also by the same artist ' Devil Cry ' .

This is called Wax Seals Because this is exactly what it looks like : as if someone took a hot candle and tilted it onto paper and made a wax sealed stamp ! These also come in 4 beautiful colors such as Blue , Pink , Green , & Orange . *Please note : Only the Orange Wax Seal RSS has the RSS insignia stamped on it - what you can do ( if you do have an image editing software installed on your system is : You can engrave it to your liking , or if you dont have an image editing software on your system what you can do is go to an Image host such as MyTheme Online Image Editor and use one of the thousands of different fonts offered there ( or Upload your own ) and inscribe the RSS Logo on them . Twitter is apparently all the craze since it's launch , and the Twitter social media craze is at it's Zenith . There are hundreds of sites offering twitter backgrounds , twitter buttons and everything Twitter related . Well, here are now some of the most beautiful Twitter Icons to surely enhance your page . They are glossy , and they measure 512px -x-512px, they are huge yes, however you can resize them to your liking of course by simply setting the appropriate width & height parameters after you download them & upload them to your own image hosting service . The author / creator site is Ben Stock , a very talented Developer & Web designer ( if you care to visit his site ) .

You can download these beautiful Icons right here--> and simply unzip the file , go to your Image hosting service , choose to upload all of the brilliant colored icons at once or choose the color of your choice. Now as far as putting your own Twitter user name on them ( as I have done on mine if you look down @ my footer under my profile ) you will simply need to download the Twitter Font which is called : Pico Font , and you can do so right here---> . Once you download the font & the Icons , and you would like to inscribe your Twitter user-name on them and you dont have PhotoShop or any other means by which to do so , you can simply use one of the Image Editors offered online for free . The best one for such a task is : My Theme Online Photo Editor . Once you upload the Icon of your choice , you can use the top drop down menu which will give you a wide list of editing tools by which to work with . Choose the Draw from the main Tab Menu & then choose Text from the sub menu . You will be taken to the text page , where you will choose the Upload feature so that you can upload your own Font . When you have done so, click on the Text tool again and you will be taken back to the editing page with your image / icon . Where you take it from there now is up to you , Happy Tweeting :) . Should you have any problem with the download links , just contact me by droppping a comment here or use the contact form button to your right . If you are a Blogger Template Designer and you haven't gotten on the BloggerLuxe Site, you are apparently missing the bus !

There is a Wordpress Gallery of templates , there are thousands of Wordpress template designs/ templates , as well as Wordpress Designers out there - but what about Blogger ? Now as all of you Bloggers of the Blogspot Platform are aware of , most of the templates which most of you have on your profiles are in fact : Wordpress Themes converted to Blogger . This is fine and good , since Wordpress can be credited with having some of the best themes out there in the cybersphere - and yes , they are beautiful , and yes , Wordpress is the best Blogging Platform . However : Most people have trouble installing a simple CSS/XHTML/HTML template , let alone attempting to install & delve into more complex language such as PHP & MySQL, FTP clients, Servers, and various plug-ins which all involve and pertain to the Wordpress Platform . Yes, Wordpress is a complex platform for many of us who are not familiar with PHP & the rest .
These setbacks have forced many who wish to run or develop a Blog to resort to using other platforms out there , such as : The Blogger / Blogspot Platform .

Now , believe me - there is nothing wrong with Blogger / Blogspot , on the contrary : I myself prefer it over Wordpress ( and not only because I have no knowledge of PHP ) , but simply because I feel it is more "User Friendly" and I believe that it does possess as many ( if not all ) features as the Wordpress Platform , which are much easier & simpler to incorporate & use .

The only minor setback which Blogger seems to have at the moment is the fact that : there are no Web designers out there who are designing templates for the Blogger Platform , aside from maybe one or two , maybe even 3 . Every Blogger who wants to use a Blogger Blogspot Blog , has to resort to using a Wordpress theme which has been converted to Blogger , or some even go as far as to pay a Web Designer to have one designed or converted for them . This makes for some unhappy Bloggers , as many don't like the fact of having to actually " pay for a template " . However , what I will tell most of you is this : Designing a Template , coding it , & structuring it perfectly is quite a difficult task - as Web Designing is not as easy as some of you would like to think . You all see a beautiful Finished Product when you look at a template , but if you bother going into your HTML Edit and look carefully at the CSS & the coding ( structure ) , you will soon realize that the beautiful finished product which you are viewing is not so simple after all - and that it required much work , skill & effort on the Designers part . Therefore , dont be so quick to begrudge some Designers for charging or for requesting that you make a Donation to them for their services of Converting a Template for you . No one works for free - do you ?

Now there are many Blogger Gallery Template Sites out there , who specialize in Wordpress to Blogger Conversions , and all of them are run by very talented individuals who are very skilled at converting the difficult PHP language format extensions into XHTML format and giving you a finished product of a Wordpress to Blogger version Template . The above mentioned designers are very limited in number , however they definitely possess as much skill & talent as most of the Wordpress Designers out there . The problem is : Not many Blogger users Know of them yet . I would like at this point to inform all of these Talented Original Blogger designers to head on over to BloggerLuxe , which is a newly erected site with the intent of Hosting Originally designed Blogs & Blogger Designed template Themes in a gallery style format for other users to vote on and look upon. I believe that this is a great concept for the Blogger platform as well as the Blogspot Community , and definitely one which has been long overdue in my opinion. For years now , Wordpress has been gaining the exposure it has due to the fact that all of the Web Designers out there designing for the WP platform seem to band together in support of the WP Platform . The time has come now for all of you Original Blogger template Designers to start your own showcasing of your Themes / Works . Now if you have not heard of Blogger Luxe yet , it is quite new , and it has been put up by Cheth over at Cheth Studios . His idea is a great concept and as Cheth is quite the innovator behind some truly great platforms / themes , this is simply just another of his great ideas , and Blogger Luxe will soon be gaining much noteriety !

Please head on over to BloggerLuxe and submit your originally designed Blog Theme now , so that other users who visit BloggerLuxe may discover your work & YOU ! I would also like to urge all of you Original Blogger Template designers , to continue designing more Blogger Templates for the Blogger Platform so that your work / designs will become widely known as well as you gaining more fame as a Web designer .

I really don't wish to believe in this , and prefer to rest within the thought that if one is truly a great designer , they have no need to emulate nor steal from another artist , but rather possess enough ingenuity and imagination to create something entirely & originally their own , and from what I have been able to see from these very few Blogger Designers , they do possess their very own style and originality as far as being able to create beautifully structured Themes all on their own without having to resort to Stealing from anyone else , and I hope that they will all continue designing and creating great impressive Templates for the Blogger platform . Enabling Your FF Browser @ Warp Speed !

Have you been experiencing problems with your FF Browser lately , such as slow loading time - or simply it just takes forever for a page to load ? If so, then here is a very simple hack for you to get running at Warp Speed again !

If you have been having trouble with your FF browser lately , fret not - you are not alone ! There are millions of users out there who have been having the same problem so, don't feel that you are an isolated case . There is a very simple hack for any of you who are not afraid to attempt this - which means that : You will have to roll up your sleeves and get your hands a bit dirty . No, don't worry , you won't have to take your system apart . You will simply have to go into your browsers Configuration Settings and simply alter/ change a few things .

Are you ready ?

Ok, lets go then ! *[ Please note : Be careful when you’re adjusting your settings, as you can give Firefox brain damage :) ]

In your browsers ADDRESS BAR , please type in the following: about:config and hit ENTER . As you will see upon doing that , your FF Browser window settings will be displayed . Scroll through this long list and find the following extensions , and when you do find each one - DOUBLE CLICK on it to change / alter it from either TRUE to FALSE & vice versa . Remember to do that please :) This hack works wonders & if you're not afraid to do it you will see the results once you complete the steps below & RESTART your browser .

Double Click on each of the following to set it from TRUE to FALSE

Disable Extension Compatibility Check

extensions.checkCompatibility = False
extensions.checkUpdateSecurity = False

Disable Prefetch (if you do a lot of Google searches)

network.prefetch-next = False

Enable spellcheck in forms

layout.spellcheckDefault = 2
Change Value from 1 to 2

View source code in an external editor

When you need to view the source of a page, it opens up in browser popup. Most developers would probably like to have that opened in their favorite editor instead of having to cut and paset. To do this, there are two entries to modify. Search for view_source.editor and you will see:

view_source.editor.external: Change this to true.

view_source.editor.path: Change this to the explicit path to your editor of choice.

Redefine the Backspace button

Did you know you can configure Firefox to use the backspace button to either go back a page or go up a page? This keeps power users from having to go back and forth from the keyboard to the mouse. Search for backspace and you will see:

browser.backspace_action: Change this to 0 for previous page and 1 for page up.

# If you can’t restore via a backup prefs.js file, you can exit Firefox and issue the command firefox -safe-mode to bring up the Firefox Safe Mode screen. Then, just select Reset All User Preferences To Firefox Defaults. Note: This will restore all user preferences to their default values.

Open Javascript popups as tabs

If a popup window lacks the features of a browser window, Firefox will handle it like a popup. If you would prefer to open all windows, including popups, as new tabs, you need to tell Firefox in about:config. Search for newwindow and you will see three entries. Of those three entries, you will want to modify:

browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction: Change this to 0.

Using Flash Media as Your Background

Flashing your Web Page !

Flash websites are constantly on the rise , which makes for some pretty amazing sites . However , you don't necessarily have to be an expert Web Designer to create a Flash based website . There are alternatives which may work just as well ....

When I built my first website , it was Flash based, yes I will not deny it . What I will add to this however is : It took me about 1 week ! . Sure it came out pretty great ( if I do say so myself - although , it is strictly a website for pure Entertainment purposes ) ; and it was my first web creation , with very little HTML knowledge at that ( not that I possess more at this point , but for a beginner , I think it came out pretty good :) you can see for yourself and judge if it is worthy Here .

However , there is a much simpler way of producing a Flash-like page , though not entirely Flash based as the website which I had created , by simply using a SWF Object instead . I came across a great example tutorial ( open resource ) by the great Andrew Sellick [ for those of you who know Sellick , he is the man who developed that awesome Mootools Fancy Sliding Tab Menu & the Slide out Sidebar Menu , if you have never seen it in action , it is definitely a must see , I love it - its a great space saver & doesnt clutter up your page , check it out Right Here.

Now Andrew gives yet another great example of how to use a SWF Object as your main background . I dont know how many of you ou there prefer Flash enabled websites or Blogs for that matter , however : for those of you who have been searching to create a Flash content page on the Blogger platform , this may very well end up being the solution for you . and here is an example of using a SWF object here . Please note * you can set the width & height for your swf object & it can be any type of object as long as it is .SWF
