In a genre where space marines are so popular, Bulletstorm gives you space pirates. In a genre where gray wastelands are so big, Bulletstorm is a vibrant swirl of colors. And in a genre where headshots are so critical, well, they're also a pretty big deal in Bulletstorm. Some things just don't change.

Nonetheless, Bulletstorm has all the makings of a rather unique first-person shooter. The game is being developed by People Can Fly (now a wholly owned subsidiary of Epic Games), the developer behind the charmingly ridiculous PC shooter Painkiller. Right off the bat, Bulletstorm gives off shades of Gears of War crossed with Borderlands. There's Gears for its gritty sci-fi setting and gruff cast of characters and Borderlands for the general eccentricity that encompasses everything going on--right on down to the fountains of text that erupt from downed enemies.

The character at the center of the plot is one Grayson Hunt, a former mercenary who's had a bit of a falling out with his former employer and, as a result, has been exiled to the farthest reaches of space. One crash landing later and Hunt finds himself on a deep space resort planet known as Stigya. At one point, this place was the Las Vegas of planets: a remote getaway designed solely for the pleasure of its visitors. But as things tend to go in sci-fi stories, a catastrophic event has occurred that's rendered Stigya the polar opposite of a paradise. Its denizens have either died or become feral monsters, and a mysterious overgrowth of mutated plant life has dotted the landscape with giant cacti and tangled vegetation.

This dangerous and twisted world surrounds Grayson, but fortunately, his fighting style is pretty dangerous and twisted in its own right. It's a good thing, too: Bulletstorm is a game that rewards creatively killing your enemies. Combat runs on a loop where you get more points for killing enemies as elaborately as you can--displayed as in-game text coming from dead foes--and then use those points to upgrade and unlock weaponry that allows for further insanity. In gameplay terms, this means that shooting an enemy in his "special place" and then kicking him into a giant cactus while he clutches himself in agony makes for a quicker route to that new grenade launcher than simply shooting him dead.

Grayson starts off with a fairly standard weapon--an assault rifle lovingly referred to as "the peacemaker." With time, you'll unlock guns from further along the spectrum of ridiculousness. One example we were shown was the "flail gun." This one shoots two grenades simultaneously, which in and of itself is obviously nothing special. However, these grenades are chained together, making the grenades capable of latching onto objects (or people) in some pretty interesting ways. You might shoot it at a lamppost near a group of enemies and trigger the explosion remotely when the poor guys come running around the corner. But if you want to be more twisted, you can shoot the chained grenades right at an enemy's head and watch as the two tethered explosives wrap around his neck. We'll let you use your imagination to picture what happens from there.

Regardless of which gun you're carrying, the real heart of your arsenal is a pair of always-there abilities that allow you to toy with enemies as a cat would torment a mouse. At any moment, you can latch onto far-off foes and pull them toward you with a tool called the leash, which behaves a lot like Just Cause 2's grapple hook minus the ability to transport yourself. For knocking enemies back, you can both kick and slide into them. Both these melee attacks put enemies into slow motion for a second or two--think of it as bullet time in a bubble--which leaves them defenseless for your next move. The demo Epic showed us was a whirlwind of stunned enemies, headshots, groin shots, cactus impalements, missing limbs, and more--all of which came before the boss fight against a 50-foot plant monster.

All of this amounts to a game that moves at a very frenetic pace. Adding to the general sense of chaos during these fights is the character dialogue. Quips and one-liners seem to come fast and often, with the game's central cast tossing barbs at one another seemingly as often as they toss grenades. Some of it was fairly cringeworthy, but we're told that Grayson starts the game as a rather unlikable drunken space pirate and gradually becomes more of a well-rounded character as the game continues. Fortunately, the game's visuals are likable right off the bat, with extensive use of colors and great lighting effects painting Bulletstorm's world in a very interesting way.

Right now, Bulletstorm is scheduled for release in 2011. We'll have more on this slightly insane first-person shooter at the Electronic Entertainment Expo, so stay tuned.

Guerrilla Games isn't pulling any punches. The Killzone developer showed off an extremely impressive bit of gameplay at Sony's E3 2010 press conference, proclaiming from the start that Killzone 3 is being developed from the ground up with 3D technology in mind. According to Guerrilla's Herman Hulst, the upcoming shooter sequel will feature tougher, scarier enemies and will be the most realistic representation yet of a science-fiction war. And with that, Hulst asked the in-house audience to don their 3D glasses and invited his colleague Steven Ter Heide to begin the gameplay demonstration.

The first sight we see is an industrial complex being blanketed in snow as it wafts from above. The snow is a lovely sight, contrasting nicely with the gritty, derelict edifice it covers, but it isn't long before the peace is broken by a Helghan dropship. The enemy is bringing the fight to you, but these aren't the usual Helghast you're used to fighting. They have the telltale glowing red eyes, of course, but they look even more demonic than usual. This because many of your creepy foes will now be wearing jumpacks, though these aren't jetpacks as you usually think of them. Instead, these packs feature wings that fan behind, making your enemies look like creatures from some sort of ghastly sci-fi hell. Armed with an M82, the excellent default weapon from Killzone 2, the player takes aim at the soaring Helghast and loads him with lead. That one dispatched, the player punctures another's jumpack and sends him zooming into the air, only to explode a few moments later.

Clearly, Killzone 3 is every bit the looker Killzone 2 was. Even though the build we watched was labeled as pre-alpha, it looked stunning. The lighting was top-notch, and the art design was consistent with what we've already seen from the series. The next scene showed off these good looks to great effect. Now clad in his own jumpack, the player leapt and flew above a sea dotted with icy islands while approaching a looming fortress. As the waves undulated beneath, the player landed on the structure and fought his way inside, shooting down doors and attacking Helghast along the way. We noticed a few things during this portion of the demo. Firstly, the enemy AI looks as good as we saw in Killzone 2. Foes put up a fight and used cover to their advantage whenever possible. Additionally, there were lots of great visual touches, such as realistic cloth physics that reacted authentically to the wind as it gusted through the fortress.

The action continued as the player was pummeled with rockets and then took to the air so he could drop through a skylight and shoot up the enemies within. After this sequence, we then moved to the final portion of the demo. This sequence involved shooting a turret from a mobile airborne vehicle, shooting down not just enemies but entire towers, which exploded and fell to the ground with palpable force and drama. The player also brought down similar ships that besieged his own floating platform. The entire sequence looked gorgeous and exciting, filled with all the battlefield chaos you remember from Killzone 2.

The original Test Drive Unlimited was a massive, open, online racing game that let you cruise around the magnificent island of O'ahu and challenge other players at a whim through its seamless online integration. The goal of the game was to earn money to purchase the most luxurious (and expensive) cars in the world, and the sequel's premise pretty much follows the same idea. However, this time, the game has a new narrative and you start off on the gorgeous Mediterranean island of Ibiza. We sat in on an hour-long demo of Test Drive Unlimited 2 with senior producer Nour Polloni, who went over several new features as we drooled over the sweet cars that will likely only exist for us in a virtual world.

Polloni began the presentation by highlighting some of the key features of Test Drive Unlimited 2. You can now progress through the game through four different means: competition, social, discovery or collection. The social aspect of the game seems to be a huge focus this time around. Like other massive online games, you can now form a club (similar to a guild or clan), as well as work with others to earn money and build up your reputation. By being active in a club and making friends, you'll increase your social level, which will also go toward raising your global progression. Taking on challenges or creating them will increase your competition level. Now, you'll also be rewarded for wandering off the beaten path, as well as exploring every nook and cranny of the 380-square-km. island. Like a treasure hunt, if you come across car wrecks, you can salvage them and build your own car that won't be available to a dealer anywhere. It looks like regardless of what you decide to do with your time, you'll earn some kind of reward and be continuously working toward your raising your level.

To enhance your experience of admiring or shopping for a car, you can wander around garages, lobbies, and dealerships with your customizable avatar. Instead of navigating through menus, you can now sit and chat with friends in a car at the dealership as you debate the vehicle's features or pick the colors from the car manufacturer's catalog. The shimmer of metallic paint was noticeable as we walked around a bright blue Audi TT RS and were told that the definition in the modeling had been increased. For example, you can see all the minute details, from more refined lines down to the texture of the leather and the stitching within the car. For now, we're only able to reveal the cars that will be in the game, including: Gumpert Apollo Sport, Dodge Viper SRT10, Dodge Charger SRT8, Aston Martin DBS, Ford Mustang GT, Koenigsegg CCXR Edition, and the Audi TT RS Roadster. There were several other high-end cars that we got a chance to look at, but the developers are saving that information for another time.

Based on community feedback, the developers added a day-night cycle so that you can cruise around at night or sit back in your convertible and watch the sunrise from the coast. The cycle takes two-and-a-half hours, so that if you play at the same time every day, you'll be experiencing a different time of day in the game. The developers drove the TT out along the deserted but sandy beach while the waves lapped calmly along the shore and just sat back to admire the golden glow of the sky as the sun dipped beneath the horizon. Now, if only all of this were real. Snapping us back to reality, we zoomed out to view the island from a satellite view and saw that the surrounding sea has been reworked. You can now see the coral reefs and sea depth, as well as the varied landscape that exists on Ibiza. The weather can also change, so it's one thing to be cruising with the top down on a sunny day; it'll be a little more difficult having to navigate through a thunderstorm. Now that vehicle damage has been added, it'll cost money to fix the cosmetic wounds, so tearing across the fields in your Gumpert Apollo may not be such a good idea.

To describe Dungeons in its simplest terms--it’s a game heavily inspired by the Bullfrog classic strategy game Dungeon Keeper. From top to bottom, you’re in complete control of your very own dungeon, playing as the dungeon lord who acts as your dungeon’s main guardian. You can maneuver him through the dungeon using the standard WASD keyboard control format and give orders to minions using the mouse. In the first part of the demo we saw, the dungeon lord is venturing back to his part of the underworld when he stumbles across some heroes.

Confrontations with heroes are at the heart of the entire Dungeons experience. But before we get into the details, you should know that battles happen automatically, and you don’t have any direct control over specific actions. However, the outcome of these battles is heavily influenced by the dungeon lord’s individual attributes, which in turn, are augmented by the prestige of your dungeon. Dungeon prestige is affected directly by how well you’ve adorned and designed your dungeon--adding even one of the numerous decorative objects (called gimmicks), like lamps, affects your prestige level.

But back to the heroes... There’s an interesting dynamic at work when it comes to the noble people who infiltrate your abode. When a hero comes into your dungeon, you’ll see icons over his head that indicate what he’s interested in doing while venturing through your dark lair. The sword icon means that he’s thirsty for battle, while the treasure-chest icon means he has a hankering to pilfer some gold. In fact, the very first hero who entered the dungeon through the hero gates went directly for the treasure room built by the dungeon lord for this demo. As you watch him collect gold, you’ll see that his interest level in performing that activity diminishes since he’s getting his fill. This creates another problem, because you need to keep him occupied with something else in its place. In this case, since he wants to do battle, a good idea would be to create some monster spawn points so he has something to fight. If the hero becomes too bored, he’ll start venturing deeper into the dungeon, and he'll eventually reach the dungeon heart. If the dungeon heart is destroyed, the game ends. But you can also counter such an attack by attacking the heroes yourself, but it’s always a good idea to keep an eye on the heroes’ skill level--in some cases a high-level hero (they can reach level 20) may venture into your dungeon.

At some point, you’re going to have to confront heroes to harvest soul energy, which functions as the second resource in the game behind gold. When you defeat a hero, you capture some of his soul energy, but in some cases, you won’t be able to capture all of it--that is, unless, you build a prison cell area inside the dungeon where you can squeeze the extra bit of soul energy from him. We watched the dungeon lord construct a prison area with the help of his little goblin minions (that typically run for their lives when a hero is nearby) and then click on the fallen body of the hero, and then we saw him appear in one of the cells. The dungeon lord then took his souls and used them to add a few more nice-looking lamps to the dungeon walls.

The next portion of the demo took us into dungeon-versus-dungeon combat. The dungeon lord’s goblins had been digging a path to the east, and they opened up a passageway to another dungeon controlled by the zombie lord--as indicated by the circle of influence surrounding his dungeon. As soon as the wall broke, the zombie lord charged in with his skeleton minions and began attacking the dungeon lord. Fortunately, the dungeon lord won the fight, but if he had been killed, he still would have had time to respawn at the dungeon heart and protect it--though doing so risks serious damage to the heart.

Like a classic car that has been lovingly but only partially restored, parts of Gran Turismo 5 look as good as new, while others are showing their age. Developer Polyphony Digital's latest "real driving simulator" introduces plenty of great new features to the long-running series, but it also recycles a lot of content. This is undoubtedly the biggest and best Gran Turismo yet, and despite its impressive level of realism it's also the most accessible, but aspects of both the gameplay and the visuals evoke deja vu, while the all-new online play uses a lobby system with about as many modern conveniences as a Ford Model T. If you love to drive, Gran Turismo 5 is a game that you're sure to enjoy; just don't expect it to have that new-car smell.

Though things improve later on, Gran Turismo 5 doesn't make a good first impression. Lengthy load and install times, unwieldy menus, and music that should be swapped out for a custom soundtrack as soon as possible are early disappointments, and sadly things don't get much better when you enter the GT Life career mode. You're told to buy your first car on a budget that more or less forces you to check out the used-car lot, rather than one of the game's many dealerships, only to find that most of the rides there look incredibly rough. That's not because GT5 features faded paintwork, rust spots, or bumpers that look like they've seen some action, but rather because the vast majority of the game's 1,000-plus cars don't look significantly different than they did when they appeared on the PlayStation 2. These poorly textured, jaggy-edged "standard" cars also lack the interiors of the vastly superior "premium" models, so when you drive them there's no option to do so using GT5's new cockpit view. Climb into a premium car, on the other hand, and the attention to detail both inside and out is staggering. The cockpit view is ruined somewhat by nasty-looking shadows that move across the dashboard as you drive, but they're not overly distracting, and the exteriors on these cars are so stunning that you need to take them into Photo mode to truly appreciate them.

Although the used-car dealer invariably has dozens of cars in stock, your purchases are limited not only by your available funds, but also by your driver level, which starts out at zero. You earn experience points toward your next level every time you complete a challenge or race, and as you gain levels you unlock additional events as well as the option to buy more powerful cars. You might think that being prevented from buying the most powerful cars at the outset keeps those early events competitive, but as in previous games, it's all too easy to win most races simply by entering in a car that's significantly more powerful than the rest of the field. The 45 different race series that make up the A-Spec (drive yourself) and B-Spec (give instructions to an AI driver) portions of your career all place restrictions on the kinds of vehicles that can enter, but they're rarely stringent. The result is that you end up winning races easily, which, while rewarding financially, isn't particularly satisfying. Even race series that restrict you to using certain car models aren't competitive unless you go out of your way to make sure that they are, because there are no rules in place to prevent you from upgrading that car in the impressively comprehensive and easy-to-use tuning shop. On the flip side, it's also possible to unwittingly enter races in cars that are hopelessly underpowered, in which case you're likely to quit before you even finish the first lap.

It's unfortunate that the lax restrictions make competitive racing the exception rather than the rule in A-Spec and B-Spec events, because on those rare occasions that you find yourself driving in close proximity with AI opponents, it can be fun to jostle for position with them. AI drivers rarely stray far from the racing line, but they at least attempt to overtake each other in a somewhat believable fashion and occasionally get something wrong and end up spinning their car or driving off the track. It's good to see other drivers getting it wrong from time to time, not only because it's realistic, but also because it makes you feel a little better about the mistakes you inevitably make yourself.

The ladies of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood have both bark and bite. If you played Assassin's Creed II, then you already know Caterina Sforza, the comely Italian countess with a soft spot for sly, rugged assassins. She's not the only female character with an important role to play in Brotherhood, however. Claudia Auditore is no longer just a submissive bookkeeper, but rather a strong young woman who eventually learns to handle a blade. And then there's Cesare Borgia's cunning sister Lucrezia, whose sharp tongue is matched by her severe, almost vampiric appearance. These willful women are ensemble players in the continuing drama of Ezio Auditore, the self-assured star of Assassin's Creed II. His story continues in Brotherhood, which begins directly after the events that closed its predecessor. This follow-up tale doesn't have the same impact of the story that spawned it, but Ezio's world is a wonder to inhabit, filled with amazing architectural detail and bursting with tons of enjoyable content.

Ezio is not the only leading man in this ongoing tale. He's an ancestor of Desmond Miles, the near-future bartender who has remained a series constant. You play Desmond in several terrific sequences, the final of which concludes with a moment so staggering it rivals Assassin's Creed II's ending for pure shock value. It's unfortunate that Ezio's part of the story isn't as memorable as Desmond's, or indeed, as memorable as his previous journey. The setup is simple: After a battle at the family's villa in Monteriggioni, Ezio's nemesis, Cesare Borgia, steals the all-important artifact known as the Apple of Eden. With the help of Caterina and other old friends, Ezio heads to Rome to retrieve the Apple and rid the city of Borgia influence. There's a bit of drama when an associate is accused of betrayal, but for the most part, Brotherhood's straightforward plot doesn't have much emotional impact, and because Ezio exhibits little personal growth, there's the slightest hint of staleness to his escapades.

That doesn't mean there aren't special story moments to savor, however. One set of side missions is a series of heartfelt flashbacks that put you in the shoes of a younger Ezio, and they let him show off that old charm that he rarely exudes in Brotherhood. Other indelible moments come by way of your glimpses of Lucrezia Borgia, who has a complicated relationship with Cesare. She knows what she wants, and she isn't afraid to test the boundaries of human decency in the pursuit of power. Lucrezia aside, few of the important players are new, but they're all voiced by a great cast that gives further gravitas to a story and world that are presented without the slightest hint of irony. Furthermore, certain story elements are given poignancy by way of their presentation. For instance, spying on a scheming Cesare and Lucrezia through a palace window makes their dialogue seem even more devious.

While Brotherhood's story falls just short of series standards, its sense of place and time is as impeccable as fans could possibly hope for. You spend the majority of the time in Rome, and while you may miss exploring multiple cities, the city is nevertheless huge and gorgeous, brimming with so much visual variety and exquisite detail that Brotherhood feels as consequential as its forebears. You might roam into a cathedral to discover a palatial view punctuated by red tapestries and golden candelabras. Citizens wandering the streets munch on apples, carry lanterns in the evening, and flirt with each other behind pillars. It is all rendered with amazing detail and lit beautifully, undercut only occasionally by visual blemishes that will be familiar to fans of the series. There is some texture fade-in, and you'll glimpse citizens popping in here and there. More notable for PlayStation 3 owners is the obvious screen tearing and less consistent frame rate. Regardless of your chosen platform, the soundtrack enhances the atmosphere with operatic soprano warbles and French horn melodies. Large portions of the soundtrack are lifted from last year's game, which is mildly disappointing; how nice would it have been to hear a new theme when synchronizing the map from atop a high perch? Regardless, the music is a graceful complement to the splendid visuals.

"Nothing is true; everything is permitted." We learned this adage in the original Assassin's Creed, and Assassin's Creed II carries on the tradition beautifully, inspiring you to rethink the conspiracy at the heart of the series--and to reconsider what you should expect from a sequel. The franchise's second console outing is an impressive piece of work. Developer Ubisoft Montreal has addressed almost all of Assassin's Creed's flaws by filling its follow-up with fresh and enjoyable mission types and layering on new and mostly excellent features, while still retaining the joy of movement and atmospheric wonder that characterized the original. These enhancements range from the subtle (you can swim now) to the game-changing (there's an economy), but aside from a few small missteps, every tweak makes for a more enjoyable, more engaging adventure. The cohesive story and a terrific new character will draw you in, and you aren't apt to forget the memorable and explosive ending that will have you eager for the third installment.

Like in the first game, Assassin's Creed II occurs across two timelines: a modern-day chronology starring bartender Desmond Miles, and another featuring one of Desmond's ancestors. When you start the game, you'll catch up with Desmond right where the original left him, though as fans of the original can guess, the Abstergo labs are no longer a safe haven. You'll spend a bit of time with Desmond during the course of the game, though the shoes you most frequently fill are those of Ezio Auditore da Firenze, the charmingly impetuous son of a 15th-century Italian banker. Ezio is an instantly likable firebrand, as passionate about family and honor as he is about wine and women. When you first meet him, Ezio is living a carefree life and has not yet donned his assassin's robe, nor is he familiar with the creed. However, Ezio's devil-may-care freedom is soon cut short by murder and betrayal instigated by the assassins' greatest threat: the Templars.

Assassin's Creed's Altair was an interesting character, but only for the stealthy order he represented, not because you ever got to know the man under the white hood. Ezio is far more appealing, for he's not just quick with a secret blade, but he's a fully realized protagonist. He isn't at the mercy of the plot, but rather, the narrative evolves from his need to uncover the truth behind his sorrows. It's the personal nature of the narrative that makes Assassin's Creed II's story more compelling than its predecessor's. The few modern-day segments featuring Desmond pack a lot more punch this time around as well, and the conspiracies driving that story arc become a lot clearer and, as a result, more provocative. While the original ended on a vague and unsatisfying note, the latest chapter's climax is downright electrifying.

Ezio isn't Assassin's Creed II's only headliner. The Italy he inhabits is a character in and of itself, filled with visual and sonic details that infuse the world with life and elegance. The cities you explore--Florence, Venice, and more--are larger and more detailed than the environs of the first game. Citizens go about their daily lives, and they look authentic doing so. Merchants sweep the street in front of their shops; small groups stroll along, making conversation with each other; and courtesans smirk and cajole as you pass by. These folks aren't cookie-cutter character models. They are dressed differently enough from each other and are animated so expressively that it's as if the population would go about its business with or without your presence. More impressive are the cityscapes themselves as they unfold in front of you, inviting you to take in their splendor. This is an incredibly good-looking game: the lighting is sumptuous, the draw distance is vast, and textures are crisp. The PlayStation 3 version does suffer from some frame rate jitters, more frequent texture fade-in, and lesser color saturation. Both versions are still attractive, however, and apart from a few small flaws, you rarely get the feeling that visual compromises were made to make the game's open world run smoothly.
Isaac Clarke, the unluckiest space engineer of the 26th century, is more unfortunate than ever in Dead Space 2. 2008's superb Dead Space took the style of survival horror shooter action exemplified by games like Resident Evil 4 and meshed it with an atmospheric deep-space setting and some terrific, distinctly sci-fi gameplay elements, creating something that felt simultaneously familiar and unique. Dead Space 2, on the other hand, will feel thoroughly familiar to those who have played the original; its few improvements over Dead Space are minor tweaks rather than game changers. But blasting the limbs off of hideous necromorphs remains tremendously satisfying, and although the pacing lags a bit during the game's middle portions, this second outing packs more than enough scares and surprises to make stepping back into Isaac Clarke's suit extremely worthwhile. In addition, a new multiplayer component successfully translates Dead Space's particular breed of dismemberment-focused combat into a pulse-pounding team-based experience that casts you as both humans and as the foul necromorphs. And, at least at the time of release, the PlayStation 3 version includes a hefty bonus: the great on-rails shooter Dead Space Extraction (previously a Wii exclusive), at no additional cost. As long as you've got the stomach for it, Dead Space 2 is one sci-fi horror thrill ride you definitely want to take.

The first few moments of Dead Space 2 smartly accomplish a good deal in a very short amount of time. We get a glimpse into Isaac's psychological state, his psyche still tormented by the painful loss he experienced on the Ishimura during the events of the first game. We also learn that the three years since then have been little more than a blur to Isaac--he's in some kind of hospital facility, but has only the vaguest memories of his time there. And almost before you can say "necromorph outbreak," you take control of Isaac as he runs for his life from the hideous creatures who, for reasons that aren't immediately clear, have suddenly appeared and started slaughtering the human population here in the Sprawl, a vast urban area on Titan, Saturn's largest moon. Isaac, who said not a word in the original game, has a voice here, and although he's a bit bland as a character, the intensity of the action that surrounds him makes you feel invested in his desperate struggle for survival. Revealing glimpses into the world of Dead Space--such as a trek through a Unitology center that sheds light on the inner workings of the church whose activity is inextricably linked to the necromorph outbreaks--keep the momentum rolling during the early chapters. The game later falls into predictable rhythms for a while, but it picks up steam again toward the end, as the story goes to some unexpected and exciting places and puts almost as much emphasis on Isaac's struggle against his own demons of guilt and regret as on his battles against the necromorphs.

But those battles against the hideous undead mutations remain front and center, where they belong. The key to dropping necromorphs is still blasting off their often frighteningly pointy limbs, which you do with a number of repurposed mining tools and a few actual guns, all of which feel powerful and are immensely fun to use. All of the weapons from Dead Space return in this sequel, including the plasma cutter and the line gun, which fire beams of energy capable of slicing necromorph limbs clean off. Another returning weapon is the ripper, a terrific tool whose spinning blade can result in a noisy, grisly end to necromorphs who make the mistake of getting too close to you. And there are a few new weapons as well: the detonator lets you place laser-triggered trip mines to set explosive traps for approaching necromorphs, and the javelin gun fires spikes at such a tremendous velocity that any necromorph unfortunate enough to be in their path is likely to find itself impaled to a wall.

Beneath a frozen city ruined long ago by its own weapons of destruction, humankind clings to survival. In dirty overcrowded stations, women haggle for scraps at the market as old men mourn the world they lost and children run underfoot, knowing no life beyond their meager subterranean existence. The hardier souls stand at the gates, vigilant against the beastly offspring of Armageddon, while the bravest venture out into the tunnels to trade, scavenge, and scout the dark reaches of the man-made underground wilderness. This is the world of Metro 2033, where the oppressive atmosphere fills every corner and is so well cultivated that the relentless gloom can begin to wear you down. Yet your journey is a lengthy and intriguing one, full of dramatic moments and tense action. Particularly hectic encounters can stress the game's performance, but the richness of the environments more than makes up for any small hitches. The immersive world of Metro 2033 is not for the faint of heart, but those whose brave it will find a fresh and entertaining new adventure into the postapocalyptic future.

And make no mistake, this future is bleak. The aforementioned station-villages are dreary, but you'll come to regard them as welcome beacons of light in the pervasive darkness of the tunnels. As you venture away from the comforting firelight and busy soundscape of the crowded stations, you enter tunnels that echo with the howls of murderous beasts, where the only illumination is provided by glowing radioactive fungi or your own headlamp. Light, or lack thereof, plays a huge role in creating Metro 2033's engaging atmosphere. Passing through a dark, foggy tunnel can be harrowing, and entering the warm glow of an electric lamp can relieve the palpable tension, until you look down and see a freshly mutilated body at your feet. Grim scenes, inescapable shadows, and an omnipresent sense of desperation help create a powerful sense of gloom and doom. Though this world is not without hope, it is a dark one, and it can be overbearing at times. Soldiering on can be difficult, but sometimes all it takes is a worn out record player to lighten your spirits. Darkness can also be your ally, providing you have some night-vision goggles handy, allowing you to sneak past foes or position yourself for a silent kill. Lightscape is just as important as landscape in Metro 2033, because not only do they combine to create the rich subterranean atmosphere, but each is an important tactical consideration.

Though much of your adventure plays out in the subway, don't expect to see the same tunnels over and over again. Human outposts are cobbled together from scrap and salvage, but there's a big difference between a bandit settlement and an entrenched military outpost. Some areas you traverse belong to the beasts, as evidenced by chewed corpses and ominously narrow dirt tunnels. Still others belong to neither men nor mutants, and the eerie silence will make you wonder what has kept them away. And just when the endless tubes are becoming too oppressive, you strap on a gasmask and venture out onto the surface to pick your way through the frigid skeleton of Moscow. Thoughtful details make exploration tempting, as does the prospect of stumbling across a dead adventurer or ammo cache ripe for the looting. Metro 2033 rewards you for paying attention to the little things, not just with precious ammunition, but with thoughtful touches that make this dilapidated world truly come alive.
Like a great Bond movie, James Bond 007: Blood Stone jumps headfirst into a spectacular action scene before the opening credits even roll. Going from silently dropping enemies on a ritzy yacht right into a pair of harrowing chase scenes--first by boat on the Mediterranean and then by car on the streets of Athens--this third-person action game from Bizarre Creations makes a thoroughly memorable first impression. What follows is a game that takes its sweet time stepping outside the shadow of this explosive prologue, as a number of early levels fall prey to flat pacing and drab, predictable level design. Such woes don't last forever, though, because the invigorating energy of that opening scene returns full force in the latter half of the adventure. The result is an uneven yet worthwhile James Bond experience, aided in no small part by stellar production values that make it easy to forget that this Bond story isn't tied to a new movie.

You don't want to know how much Bond has to pay for auto insurance.
There's no hiding the fact that the events driving Blood Stone's narrative are paint-by-numbers James Bond. You begin the game on a hunt to track down a weapons dealer bent on terrorizing the G20 Summit, but a tangled conspiracy sends Bond all over the globe tracking down the usual array of informants, turncoats, and crime lords. It's a story that succeeds not because of any emotional connection to the proceedings, but because of the sheer variety of situations Bond winds up in. At any given point, you might find yourself amid a gunfight in Monaco taking cover behind a craps table; speeding your Aston Martin across the cracking ice sheets of a frozen Siberian river; or darting across the rain-slick rooftops of Bangkok not five minutes after gazing at majestic humpback whales inside an aquarium. The voices of Daniel Craig and Judi Dench add familiarity to the cast, while the brisk cutscenes do a good job of capturing the detached, no-nonsense demeanor of Craig-era James Bond.

For the most part, the variety established by the globe-trotting plot is echoed in the game's action. Blood Stone is very much a hybrid of genres, a game that tries its hand at a lot of things and succeeds at most of them. To run the full list, Blood Stone is simultaneously a third-person shooter with a heavy reliance on cover; a stealth game that values melee takedowns over firefights; a racer replete with frantic chase scenes and explosive tracks; and a gadget-driven espionage simulator. The gadgets are the only major weak link. Pulling open your impossibly powerful smartphone allows you to scan and manipulate your surroundings, performing tasks such as cloning hard drives and cracking security points with little more than the press of a button. Ultimately harmless in their simplicity, these moments of espionage don't detract from the gameplay so much as they pad it with repetitive filler--every scan feels the same, and there's generally little context for why something needs hacking.

Punching bad guys in the throat is exactly as much fun as you'd expect. Which is to say, it's a lot of fun.
That said, on-foot combat is what makes up the bulk of your adventure. Played purely as a third-person shooter, Blood Stone is solid, though a bit unspectacular. The cover mechanics are intuitive and responsive, while weapon sound effects and enemy animations harmonize nicely to make for an impactful shooting experience--though a lack of variety in weaponry and enemy types holds back the core gunplay. Fortunately, Blood Stone is also a game that incentivizes stylish melee combat as a complement to shooting your way through a situation. Any enemy within a few feet of you can be swiftly and brutally taken down with a single button press. From judo-chopping an enemy's throat to choking him with your legs, these vicious takedowns are dead simple to pull off but never get old. Melee takedowns also earn you a "focus kill," which is a mechanic that works similarly to Splinter Cell: Conviction's "mark and execute." These focus kills allow you to string together headshots in rapid succession--up to three in a row--in order to ramp up the pace up and really tear through a shoot-out.

is an amazing game. I'm going to write about its scary moments, cool kills, and how much I dig the main character's internal struggle, but Dead Space 2 is about more than this. When I beat it for the first time, I sat on the couch with my heart racing and dissected the journey I had just taken. Then, I started my second playthrough, and when that was done, I jumped into a new game for the third time. Dead Space 2 is just that good.

It's been three years since the events of the first game, but protagonist Isaac Clarke still can't catch a break. At the beginning of Dead Space 2, he wakes on a space station known as the Sprawl and finds the place is overwhelmed by an outbreak of reanimated corpses called Necromorphs. From the very first moment of the game, Isaac's fighting for his life.

This is where you come in. As Isaac, you'll pick up your plasma cutter, don an engineering suit and take the fight to the beasts out to kill you. The overarching goal is to find and destroy the religious idol (known as the Marker) causing all of this, but the story that makes Dead Space 2 great is the internal war Isaac's fighting. Unlike Uncharted's Nathan Drake who can kill a few hundred pirates and never seem worn down by it, Isaac is totally ruined by the events of the original Dead Space. He saw things no man should have to during his time on the spaceship USG Ishimura, but it's the fact that Isaac's girlfriend died on the vessel after he encouraged her to work there that really haunts him.

Isaac's losing his mind in Dead Space 2. The guilt is tearing his very sanity apart. That's heavy stuff and it makes for a really engaging story. Isaac doesn't let anyone else in on the fact that he's coming unglued, so as a player I get to see who he really is and the facade he presents to the other characters. Isaac's internal conversations and hallucinations are among my favorite parts of this game.

But I have lots of favorite parts to Dead Space 2. Right behind Isaac's struggle on my list of cool stuff is the combat. It's more satisfying than it was in the original. Isaac's fast and light on his feet. You can stomp crates in a jiff and melee attack bodies for loot, grabbing things with your telekinesis is responsive, and mixing all of this together with the different weapons in the game is a blast. Slowing down a Necromorph, blowing off its arm, and using the severed limb to impale the foe on a wall is a thing of beauty that doesn't get old.

Dead Space 2 is pretty much the best haunted house attraction ever. Visceral stripped out the stuff that slowed down the original game (backtracking, getting disoriented, etc.) and ended up with a fast-paced game that's suspenseful and scary at the same time. You're funneled down these halls and corridors on your way from Point A to Point B, and ghouls pop out for you to blast. I know that "linear" is a bad word in the video game industry, but the package is so well done here that I can't knock Dead Space 2 for taking me on a very specific ride that's marked by awesome moments, environments that range from a cheery schoolhouse to pitch black rooms, and sound that's so well done I'd find myself trying to figure out if it was a monster making its move or my dog rummaging in the living room. Toss in some new disturbing enemies and surprises I won't ruin for you and you have a game that can feel like "the same old thing" at times but becomes much more than that as a whole.

I've already said that I've played the game over and over, so it's important to point out that no ride needs to be the same. Dead Space packs returning weapons such as the saw blade-spitting Ripper as well as brand new items like the Detonator and its trip mines. Each of these weapons -- along with your suit, telekinesis and stasis module -- can be upgraded for maximum ass-kicking, and then the progress can be saved and carried over to your next playthrough. These options and rewards are what kept me wanting to come back. There are tons of new suits (with new bonuses) to unlock and I always wanted to see what my next pimped-out weapon could do.

A couple months ago some weird stuff started happening in Azeroth. Sinister characters began to infiltrate the main cities, and as time progressed, giant, angry elementals began to wage war on the forces of the Horde and the Alliance. This was all the lead up to the release of the third expansion for Blizzard Entertainment's massively successful MMO: World of Warcraft: Cataclysm. Blizzard uses this opportunity to take a broader look at their six year old game and figure out what needed to be updated to keep World of Warcraft relevant. They used the emergence of a main lore character, the massive evil dragon Deathwing, from his place of slumber to terrorize the mortals as the catalyst for the changes. Apparently, Blizzard figured a lot needed updating, because almost all of the old game has been completely redone.

From the very start, the experience for players who pick up World of Warcraft now will be vastly different from the experience players had when the game launched in 2004. Quests, once splintered and sending players aimlessly across the map, are focused and quick to complete. Tales of having to kill fifty boars for three boar hides are done away with, and storylines -- actual storylines! -- populate the game world. It's a newer, friendlier Azeroth, and these changes span the entire original game. But seeing as how all of these changes are available without a purchase of Cataclysm, why pick up this latest expansion?

Cataclysm unlocks all the level 80-85 content, which specifically includes five new zones for leveling, two new battlegrounds, a PvP and daily questing area, seven new dungeons (and two redone classics) with normal and heroic (max level) modes, and a few raid instances. It's a lot of content, but it's not as much as the previous expansion, Wrath of the Lich King. That said, you can still expect to play for well over a hundred hours before you've really touched upon everything Cataclysm has to offer.

Minimum systems specs:
Windows XP 32bit (SP3), Windows XP 64bit (SP2), Windows Vista 32bit (SP1), Windows Vista 64bit (SP1):
Intel Pentium 4 1.3 GHz or AMD Athlon XP 1500
1GB or more of RAM
NVIDIA GeForce FX or ATI Radeon 9500 video card or better
DirectX-compatible sound card or motherboard sound capability
After the victory on Typhon, you might expect things to settle down a bit for the Blood Ravens. But if you did, you obviously don't know how things work in the world of Warhammer 40k. Before the dust has even settled on the last game, Relic's offering up a new chapter that brings them into direct conflict with the dreaded Chaos Marines. This time around the Chaos Marines have burst back onto the scene in grand, Warhammer style. The sudden appearance of a new planet from the Warp, the slow corruption of the forces of good and the ubiquitous giant demons are all on hand for this grand chapter in the history of the Blood Ravens.

The single player portion of Chaos Rising is extremely satisfying. It offers up only a little over a dozen missions but they're fairly long, packed with variety and scripted payoffs, and more than enough to get your heroes up to level 30. It also comes with a very surprising and unexpected twist that we won't spoil for you here. Just suffice it to say that it draws the player in and gets them even more invested in how things play out than in previous strategy games. The characters are just as interesting this time around, and I particularly like the way the Librarian is inserted into the story.

On the surface, Warhammer seems to be all about the battles, but once you dig into the lore, you'll find loads of details and interesting stories in every corner. Chaos Rising, like Relic's other Warhammer games, really runs with this idea and gives players plenty of interesting characters and situations. I mean, it's not Mass Effect 2 or anything, but presentation and the interesting conversations between missions really help you get involved in the story.

Some might complain that the campaign is a bit short, but you won't find any boring or repetitive missions here so there's really no filler. One mission you'll be slogging your way across the surface of an ice planet, and the next mission will have you skulking through the narrow corridors of a darkened space station. You might find yourself assaulting Chaos gates to keep the reinforcements down as you make your way to the mission's final boss battle, or you might be rescuing soldiers and fighting a last ditch defense alongside dozens of AI allies. Each mission offers something new, and a few of them even give you alternate objectives and even a few choices as to how you want to accomplish your main goal. When you add in the handful of purely optional missions, the campaign really comes to life and feels like it's responding to your choices as much as it's responding based on the designers' intentions.

The only real downsides to the missions are those rare moments, particularly towards the end of the game, where you're facing off against outrageously powerful bosses. It's not so much that I mind the challenge, but the whole affair really comes down to maximizing the damage you're doing and minimizing the damage you're taking. With no unique interaction with the setting and no clear way to exploit the bosses' weaknesses, these battles are really more about patient micromanagement than spontaneous strategies, which leave the player watching the numbers instead of the action.

The game packs a lot of tactical action into a very tight package.
The difficultly of some of these battles exposes a frustrating problem with the game's save system. Rather than letting players save and load directly from the mission itself, saving is only possible if you're willing to quit the mission altogether. I'm grateful for the chance to save, of course, but it's just silly to have to bounce back and forth like that just to ensure that you don't have to replay sections of the game. On the plus side, Chaos Rising lets you retain all the gear and XP you've accumulated up to the point that you fail a mission, so the next time you try it, you'll be a bit better equipped.

In terms of equipment, you'll need to be mindful of the new corruption system. Depending on the choices you make during the mission, and the gear you're using, you may find that your heroes become more and more corrupt as the game moves on. It has an influence on the overall direction of the story, even if the context for the changes is a little thin within the missions themselves, but the real practical concern is how corruption changes your access to certain pieces of equipment and certain abilities. If managed properly, it can be an interesting way to shift a hero from one type of role to another. The Librarian, for instance, can trade his healing abilities for more direct damage attacks.
It goes without saying that it's a good thing World War III didn't erupt between the United States and the now-defunct Soviet Union. For many of us who were children during the Cold War, the fear of being annihilated in a nuclear conflict was very real. So it's a bit strange now that we can look back at that era and have the luxury of imagining what could have been. Or we can play World in Conflict, Sierra and Massive Entertainment's incredible new real-time strategy game. This isn't your standard RTS game, as World in Conflict doesn't follow the familiar model of resource gathering, base building, and swarming armies. Instead, it feels almost like an action game masquerading as a strategy game, and it offers up a relentlessly fun and amazing new approach to the genre, one that works in single-player and even more so in multiplayer.

World in Conflict is set in an alternate-history version of 1989. Instead of the Berlin Wall falling and communism collapsing, the Soviet Union launches an assault on Western Europe, and the United States rushes its forces in to aid its Western allies. Four months into the conflict, after the US Navy has been attrited down, the USSR launches a surprise invasion in Seattle and pushes inland. In the 14-mission single-player campaign, you play as a company commander who is part of the meager US defense; there is no campaign from the Soviet perspective, though you can play as the Red Army in multiplayer. However, the campaign twists and weaves, letting you experience a sample of the European conflict, battle in remote areas of the Soviet Union, and bring the fight to New York City.

Yes, the story is a bit far-fetched, but World in Conflict does a great job of making the implausible seem believable. That's partly due to the excellent storytelling, which is spearheaded by pitch-perfect narrator Alec Baldwin. He's backed up by a great voice acting cast that brings the principle and secondary characters to life, along with a story that offers up emotional and sometimes humorous vignettes from a world at war. For instance, you'll hear a soldier's futile battle against Army bureaucracy, the phone conversation of a husband and wife, and the deliberations of the president and his top military advisors. While there's a small misstep or two, such as a gospel song in the weirdest of places, the game effectively tugs at your heartstrings, which is rare for a strategy game, especially when it concerns the fate of one character whom you presume to be entirely one-dimensional but isn't. Some of these vignettes are conveyed through in-game cutscenes, while others are delivered through graphic-novel-style drawings. World in Conflict also features some incredible prerendered cutscenes that are so good you actually wish there were more of them.

This isn't a hardcore wargame or simulation. There are far too many gameplay abstractions for that, from being able to air-drop reinforcements on the battlefield within seconds to repairing equipment almost instantly. Instead, World in Conflict is thrilling game about destruction. You get to unleash all the firepower of modern military units on an open battlefield, but you also get to experience the challenges of combined arms warfare. That's because the game has a great rock-paper-scissors combat system that captures the vicious circle of war. Tanks can kill tanks and other vehicles well, but aren't so good against infantry. Artillery can kill infantry easily, but aren't so good against tanks. Helicopters can knock out vehicles well, but are vulnerable to infantry and antiaircraft units. It's a constant chess match about what you need to bring to battle and how you use it. The game is also smart enough to limit the number of units you can control. Instead of commanding the entire battlefield, you'll have only a relative handful of units. This makes managing your units a lot easier, like when employing their secondary abilities such as popping smoke grenades to create cover when under attack.

On the night of April 26, 1986, the Reactor 4 of the Kozloduy nuclear Chernobyl was destroyed by a powerful explosion. The explosion lifted into the air, radioactive dust fellpart on territory of the USSR, leaving radiation across Europe and reaching to the shores of America.

The consequences of the accident was so severe that the government of the Soviet Union was forced take emergency evacuation in nearby cities.

The contaminated area within a radius of thirty miles from the plant was converted into a area strictly protected by the military.

After the construction of a reinforced concrete sarcophagus over the destroyed reactor, Chernobyl resumed operation. The availability of an energy sourceenergy and lack of staff resulted in the creation of a closed campus secret laboratories.

June 10, 2006. The area suddenly illuminated by a light unbearable. For some moments there was complete silence, and the clouds in thesky could be evaporating. Then came a terrible roar, theland started, and most of the soldiers guarding the perimeter were killed instantly.

2007. Scientists stillno can give a clear explanation of what happened. The expeditions invariably end in tragedy, and the few survivors tell of mutant animals with amazing abilities.

2009. The exclusion zone, estimated to contain about three hundred people missing. These people call themselves "stalkers" and searching of so-called "devices" consisting of anomalies, which are highvalue.
2010. Although the strands located at the perimeter, increasing stalkers expeditions. But only explored outside the area and attempts to penetrate the center of it, invariably end in failure.

In 2012, a stalker named Strelok solved the mystery of Cerebral cautery - an energy transmitter, capable of destroying the human mind - and defused. The stalker then began trying to reach the heart of the Zone; Some to look for the "Klondike", the legendary artifact, other, no less than "Monolith."

Under these conditions further, the National Defense Commission of the Ukrainian Security Council decided to launch an operation immediately special called "Fairway." Guided by maps of the anomalous areas, dozens of military helicopters loaded with troops wentto Chernobyl NPP. Despite careful preparation, the operation ended in failure; None of the helicopters returned to base.

To determine the reasons for the failure of the operation, the official strategic operations unit, Major Degtyarev, an experienced stalker has been sent.

Sam Fisher is out for blood. In Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction, this normally cool cat has honed some extra-sharp edges, but that's what happens when you mess with a man's brood. At one point in the game, a voice-over tells us that the boorish brute is "pure Sam, pure Sam when he's mad," but that simple explanation doesn't say the half of it. The franchise's gruff star is a changed man, and with Conviction, Splinter Cell is a changed series. This is not the challenging stealth purebred you'd expect, but rather a more approachable kind of stealth-action mongrel. You still silently snoop about in the shadows, but features you'd expect in a Splinter Cell game, and even in stealth games in general, simply aren't present. You can't move bodies out of plain sight, you don't pick locks, and you can't choose to knock your foes out--only kill them outright. Yet the new mark-and-execute feature helps make up for a bit of that lost spark by providing tense thrills of a different sort, and fantastic storytelling will keep you invested in the campaign. But if you really want to see Conviction at its best, you should grab a buddy and sneak your way through the shadows of the cooperative campaign. The joys of coordinating attacks and wriggling out of a tough jam make co-op play a knockout, and its flexibility will keep you coming back again and again.

Sam Fisher is the gravel-voiced protagonist who is as much a part of Splinter Cell's identity as goggles and guns. The murder of his daughter Sarah has siphoned away the hope and joy in Sam's life, and he's left with a single focus: find her killer. A few old friends put Sam on the trail, but that trail isn't a straightforward one (is it ever?), and Sam soon finds himself wrapped up in a conspiracy far greater than it first appears. You encounter a few legitimate surprises along the way, though the story isn't as intriguing as the way in which it is told. The text of your current mission is stretched across walls and angled up pipes, as are simple indications of Sam's emotional state. ("Anger," indicates one display; "Guilt," shows another.) Black-and-white flashbacks play out on certain surfaces as if someone is broadcasting Sam's thoughts through an old movie projector. This environmental integration is remarkably effective, broadcasting updates and emotional states as if they are burned into his soul and then etched directly onto his retinas. Actor Michael Ironside again does a good job as Sam; some scenes are thick with his desperation and exasperation. The supporting cast keeps up with him, making it easy to identify with the old acquaintances that have his back.

That something has changed is clear from the moment you lead Sam through the initial level. Sam can still crouch and slink of course, but Conviction's stealth is centered around its cover system. You can take cover and press against any vertical surface easily, from walls and curbs to vehicles and filing cabinets. You may then slip quickly to the next cover spot, assuming the visual indicator appears at the cover spot you want to zip to next. It's an intuitive system, and you can use it to quickly position yourself in all the right ways, often so you can clock a wandering guard over the head as he passes by without being seen by his cohorts in crime. You get some good interface tools to help you get your bearings when trying to stay out of sight. If you're shrouded in darkness and invisible to your enemies, everything turns black and white, aside from targets and important environmental objects. If you're seen, a ghostly image of your form will remain at your last known location, and the AI will direct its attention there. Warning alerts appear and sound if you are caught or are in immediate danger of being caught. The black-and-white effect can obscure things a bit much sometimes, but overall, these are sensible interface elements that toss you important information with a minimum of distraction.
The year is 2014 and the soldier of the future returns to encounter a new and urgent threat from the newly built wall at the U.S. border with Mexico. The Ghosts are more powerful, with an Integrated Soldier System (IWS) was updated, but they have only 72 hours to assess the threat and prevent the rebels reach the U.S. territory. With a border of 3 thousand kilometers and an enemy that follows no rules, this is a job for the most exclusive elite unit of the U.S. army. This is a job for the Ghosts. New features.

Revolutionary Visual Experience
The original Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter set the visual standard for next-generation consoles, the Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 takes that achievement to a new level. The war zone comes to life as you navigate the streets filled with debris and eliminate enemy hiding in bombed structures. The revolutionary physics and particle systems will show you some of the most intense and realistic explosions, smoke and destruction of environments ever seen in a game. The dynamic lighting and shadows change as the diurnal cycles / night real life, and a climate of constant change requires you to adapt to varying conditions in real time.

New fields of battle
For the first time the Ghosts defend the U.S. territory of an attack across the border, taking the fight to completely new places. The Ghosts fight against enemies in mountainous terrain, arid deserts and even in his hometown in El Paso, Texas. Each environment has its own advantages and challenges, requiring new approaches tactics
Info:
The first expansion pack to Command & Conquer 3, Kane's Wrath introduces two sub-factions for each of the three rival forces, a new story-driven campaign, and an additional game mode. A 20-year storyline fleshes out the events leading up to Command & Conquer 3 and then continues the narrative far into the future. As in the original game, full-motion video cut-scenes help bring the story to life. Players will be able to lead their favorite faction in the all-new Global Domination mode, which involves conquering an entire planet in a system similar to the board game Risk. Contested territory between factions is resolved through tactical, real-time battles. New units include cyborgs for the Brotherhood of Nod and hover technology for the Global Defense Initiative, with over 24 new maps available for multiplayer and skirmish battles.

Assassin's Creed II is definitely one of my favourite games of the last 12 months. It was a meaty gaming meal that took several steps towards fulfilling the promise of the original, with new mechanics, more variety in gameplay, and an alluring new setting: renaissance Italy. It was a big leap, in other words: a worthy sequel in all regards.

Brotherhood, on the other hand, will have a slightly harder time proving its worth. Rather than moving to a new time period, it continues directly on from the events of Assassin's Creed II, only with the action shifting almost entirely to Rome. Like previous titles, there's also a modern-day component. The game is once again framed by the on-going battle between the Templars and Assassins, and players are actually assuming the role of Desmond, who lives in the present day and is able to experience the memories of his ancestor Ezio using a device called the animus. The game cuts between the two time periods but the bulk of the gameplay occurs in renaissance Rome.

After confronting Rodrigo Borgia and having his mind blown far beneath the Vatican at the end of Assassin's Creed II (and no, that's not a euphemism), the story picks up with Ezio ready for some well-earned R&R. It's not to be. Cesare Borgia – Rodrigo Borgia's son – is ticked off, and mounts a full scale attack on the assassins. The villa in Monteriggioni is destroyed and Ezio loses everything. Yes, after 20+ hours working towards all that bad-ass armour and weaponry, it's lost in a moment and players must begin again. Such is the fickle nature of videogames.

In any case, Ezio travels to Rome determined to take his revenge against Cesare. The city is divided into 12 districts, each of which is overseen by a Borgia tower, representing the Borgia's control of the area. As long as the tower stands, soldiers are out in force, shops remain closed and the people oppressed. Assassinate the tower's Captain and burn it to the ground, however, and the area will open up for business. Ezio is then able to renovate blacksmiths, banks, stables and more, and these all add to his income, in much the same way renovating Monteriggioni did in the last game. The more shops that are open, the more items will be available and perks Ezio will get. For instance, the more tailors you have, the more pouches for carrying knives and other items will be available, whereas the more banks are open the more money Ezio can store before his account is full. Each defeated tower also opens up an assassin apprentice slot, but more on that later.

If you've already played through 2008's Grand Theft Auto IV, you have a pretty good idea of what to expect in the formerly Xbox-360-exclusive Episodes from Liberty City. The included episodes--The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony--take place concurrently with the original game's storyline, and while each introduces a handful of new features, the core gameplay remains largely unchanged. Also unchanged on the PC, sadly, are the frame rate issues that--like those in the PC release of GTAIV--are apparent even on rigs that exceed the recommended system specifications. Regardless, if you enjoyed GTAIV you're sure to enjoy these additional episodes as well, and even if you passed on original protagonist Niko Bellic's adventure completely, there's no reason you can't have a great time with new boys Johnny Klebitz and Luis Lopez. You definitely get more from these episodes if you play GTAIV beforehand though, because nods and winks to that game are scattered liberally throughout.

Unlike Niko, Johnny can shoot from the saddle.
For the same reason, you'd do well to hold off on playing The Ballad of Gay Tony until after you've beaten or at least spent a good amount of time with The Lost and Damned. The two episodes have been released simultaneously on the PC, but on the Xbox 360, The Lost and Damned was available as a download some eight months earlier. In that episode, you assume the role of Johnny Klebitz--a high-ranking member of the Lost biker gang who regularly disagrees with its trigger-happy leader, Billy Grey. Klebitz, who isn't a particularly likable protagonist, sees no need for the gang to go to war with rivals The Angels of Death, but anytime the two gangs clash, you end up doing most of the killing anyway. New weapons added to the existing GTAIV arsenal in The Lost and Damned include a grenade launcher, pipe bombs, and shotguns, which come in both sawed-off and assault flavors. These weapons are very much in keeping with both the episode's subject matter and its gameplay. And because Klebitz spends so much time riding motorcycles, you can use some of them while in the saddle--which wasn't possible in GTAIV.

Another neat feature introduced in The Lost and Damned, which also made it into The Ballad of Gay Tony, is a mission checkpoint system. Some of the missions take a long time to beat, and a good number of them involve riding or driving to locations that might be a good distance away before the action really gets under way. In GTAIV it could be frustrating to fail these missions, because doing so meant restarting them from the beginning, but the checkpoint system addresses that problem by giving you the option to restart from the last checkpoint that you made it through successfully. Unlike the more inventive and varied missions in The Ballad of Gay Tony, the missions in The Lost and Damned rarely deviate from the original GTAIV formula. You get to ride alongside your gang brothers occasionally, and you can call for backup from them during certain missions, but playing as Klebitz feels a lot like playing as Bellic for the most part.

Roman and Brucie from GTAIV make an early cameo in The Ballad of Gay Tony.
If you've played through a good portion of GTAIV, it should come as no surprise that Klebitz's and Bellic's paths cross occasionally. Sometimes it's as subtle as the pair simply having a mutual acquaintance, but in one mission the two characters briefly work alongside each other, and if you remember said mission from the original game, it's great to see the events unfold from a second perspective. The Ballad of Gay Tony does an even better job of referencing characters and content from previous Liberty City outings and actually kicks off with a cutscene set during one of Bellic's most memorable missions. Lopez has a very different group of friends and acquaintances than the other two protagonists, but he's a killer-for-hire and he dabbles in drug-dealing, so he inevitably ends up moving in some of the same circles--or at least looking at them down the barrel of a gun. Again, you get to see a handful of missions play out from a second or even third perspective, and given Lopez's penchant for parachutes and the prominence of helicopters in his episode, his view is often very different.

Devil May Cry 3 (DMC3) has appeared in Vietnam but has not received deserved because the game is difficult enough to make anyone frustrated after successive failures after only a few screen plays.
However, with the players to know the patient will know that this is a game player action adventure best ever on the PS2.
First, the game has no difficulty settings to choose from at the start. And in fact, the difficulty of DMC3 default is "hard" (difficult). This is in contrast to feature other games, usually only accessible after a hard set "water" in normal mode. This major reversal almost ruined the whole version of DMC3. But fortunately, after the main character Dante was killed a few times, set low difficulty "easy" to appear. Make up your pride away and start from scratch with this mode and you'll see how it is not easier than the default difficulty. Anyway, you can also feel conquer the challenge if there had been "on the" excellence of the game was hard-as-a-like Ninja Gaiden, Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater.

Initially, it seems impossible to avoid being "stuck" blow in DMC3. Your character can not take too drips and other techniques other games, the game does not have inalienable period after being shuttered. So, if 5 enemies at the same time attack, Dante will hit the 5 and will surely die. Your character will often die, whether you like it or not. And third-person perspective control "contributed" more difficult part for this.
You can control Dante automatically attack nearby enemies, or sink can hold R1 to lock down a single opponent. And when you've faced him, you can roll to the side to avoid the blow ... but you have to do it by pushing the analog stick on the left or right of Dante's not you. If you have never played the game with similar controls, such as Resident Evil, you will lose many hours can become familiar with this system. If you do not perform this operation correctly, Dante will make you jump up instead of rolling to the side, and most likely will be shuttered. Dante has no controls for defense, should you wish to support jumping to avoid a blow or virtually impossible.
You may ask, what then DMC3 is attractive? The answer is: "A lot! If your patience. " Will come a time, things go smoothly. Suddenly, you catch the problem. You return to "entering" the door first, even with the higher difficulty settings and was surprised because before it causes too much for you to try. If so, you'll notice that all guys all enemies, whether big or strong to start, and never attack without prior warning. Moment to attack you out of his reach or beat the previous government. You'll also be able to grasp the damage when a powerful combination of long-range weapons and melee weapons. Use the lightning sword and infinite ammunition, Dante will pave the way through layers of blood enemy quickly and easily like a red hot nails through butter Department.
One of the unique features of the game as Dante can switch instantly between two long-range weapons and 2 melee weapons with different moves just a click (L2 and R2). Initially, this did not seem significant, but soon you will learn how to keep changing weapons when fighting, creating endless blow uninterrupted. The battle system is extremely perfect, smooth, sensitive and accurate, helping you entertain a creative way by letting your imagination fly all sizes. A sword or a shot of you will make enemies sum down. But do not wait for him standing up and stand up, be developed to implement all the cool way you like, or even more cool when he jumped onto his back and slipped away like a roller-blades, pouring bullets into the two parties on way before labor "coach" your temporary wall. The other type of fighting air, not ground, surface to air are also interesting options. You can rival flew into the air and then pinned him to the ceiling with a colon to jump onto the bar or under way in mid air and then export from that far back to slow down.

Many other games let you do a lot of tactics and techniques to complete but eventually you just rely on a few hit the main, the most effective. However, in DMC3, you need to apply various tactics and strategies against different opponents in different situations, and, most weapons have interests different tactics. Thus, although the action seems to duplicate much, they do not cause bored.
Between the action, you get a chance to relax a little problem with the logic. All are not too difficult and only very little time, even less than the screen boss fight. DMC3 is the boss man of the world's worst game. Not too big, but they are very scary and difficult judgments. You will have to exploit the weaknesses are few of them during the strenuous avoidance of all violent attacks and causing huge damage.

Despite its title, Bloody Roar 4 is actually the sixth in Hudson's series of 3D fighting games, which originally debuted way back in 1997. The most recent entries include this year's Bloody Roar Extreme for the Xbox and last year's Bloody Roar: Primal Fury for the GameCube, whereas Bloody Roar 4 brings it back home to a Sony platform. If you've played any Bloody Roar game from over the years, on any game system, then you'll basically know what to expect from this latest installment. It features the same sort of simple, fast-paced, good-looking action that's enabled this series to squeak by for all these years, but the addition of a few new fighters, a new mode, and some tweaks to the gameplay don't stop this from being a rather simple, shallow game.

Bloody Roar 4 is a simple, accessible fighting game that can make for a decent two-player diversion.
At a glance, the Bloody Roar games do nothing to distinguish themselves from better-known 3D fighting game series, like Virtua Fighter, Tekken, and Dead or Alive. This new game features 18 different characters, who mostly look like a bunch of hipsters who'd be more at home in a dance club than in a fighting arena. The vast majority of these characters return from previous Bloody Roars, and one thing both the old and new characters have in common is their ability to change forms. That's always been Bloody Roar's twist. In battle, characters can instantly shed their human skin (it actually all happens in a white flash) to become an anthropomorphic animal or some other creature. Werewolves, weretigers, werelions, wererabbits, werebeetles, wereiguanas, and more can be found in this game, and when the fighters are in their transformed state, they're capable of longer-ranged, more-damaging moves than usual. Strangely, the designers seem to have run out of animal ideas, as many of the newer Bloody Roar characters have demonic rather than animal forms. Nagi, the new female character depicted on the cover of the game, turns into sort of a succubus rather than, say, a Chihuahua.

OK, maybe all the viable giant-animal ideas have already been used up. But, really, that's part of the problem. Apart from the characters' transformation abilities, which they can use from the first moment of any match at the press of a button, the fighters in Bloody Roar 4 are capable of the sorts of things you'd expect to see in any off-the-wall fighting game. Fast, simple combos reward button mashing, as each fighter can easily string together punches and kicks for some pretty big damage. Some moves launch opponents into the air, and you may continue to juggle them on their way down with still more attacks. Strings of a half-dozen or more hits are common. Some countermoves and guard-crushing moves are available, respectively, for dealing with opponents who are too reckless or too defensive. But these are par for the course in the genre and are rarely worth the risk when the alternative is to keep churning out quick, easy, damaging combos. Mechanically, the game works well. The controls are responsive, and the action, for the most part, is fast and smooth. The average fighting-game player with any level of proficiency should be able to see through this game's limited strategies and moves list relatively quickly. As any long-running fighting game series tends to, Bloody Roar does have its own modest following, and these players should appreciate some of the nuanced changes to the gameplay, if for no other reason than that they're nuances.
