Tim Hemphill of ATL Technology www.atltechnology.com said it's been a really good show so far. They have picked up some really good leads and met a lot of people.
We had fun reminiscing about the electronics industry. he started selling for electronics in 1978. he even work for Foxconn when they were young. he remembers driving Terry Gou around to see customers when it was just a small company.

So far it's looking really good. The job activity from last year is strong and continues. Of course the first quarter is always tricky. It usually starts out really strong and then people start fidgeting with budgets. Things get put on hold and a lot of jobs get pushed out into the second quarter. We'll see how this year goes but I'm optimistic.

CAREER CONNECTOR – ReShoring Jobs to Texas!

I am excited to have been asked to help with the career and job service of the Dallas SMTA chapter.  I have been a member of the chapter on and off since about 1993. Back then SMT was the hot new thing and there were hundreds of new jobs for SMT Engineers. There is very good news about the electronic manufacturing job market once again.  Companies are actually adding jobs, not just replacing people.

Companies are hiring.  Following a long winter for job seekers in this industry there is good news. The reshoring and nearshoring movement is really picking up steam. In the USA and Europe OEMs are demanding product be made closer to the end customer. Even consumer electronic giants Apple and Google are having some of their new product made in the USA. Foxconn is building a new plant in Houston for Apple. Flextronics recently closed on the purchase of Motorola Mobility, they will be building Google MMI according to news reports.

Flextronics has 149 jobs at their new Alliance Airport facility! Housed in the former, immense, Nokia cell phone plant, this is a major sign of the reshoring effect. The press release on the operation and major customer was due out last week but I haven’t seen it yet.  Even if you don’t want to work at Alliance I expect that many jobs will reshuffle employees all over the city. People working far from home will take those jobs, opening up opportunities across the city. 


StepBeyond will be meeting with Flextronics on site this week.  Flextronics will be utilizing StepBeyond's RPO/Outsourced recruiting model to staff positions without increasing their cost-per-hire over current recruiting systems.
