Wow, it has been a long time since I've posted anything - I'm a little amazed that my blog wasn't turfed! *chuckle*

So, what's been going on? Well, I am no longer active as an Independent Stampin' Up! Demonstrator but I still make cards for special occasions and craft when I can. I recently helped friends with their wedding invitations, gift bags and thank you cards - it felt good to be able to help them get exactly what they needed for their special day.

I've become obsessed with my nails! So, I'll post a few of the wonderful nail designs that I've done or had done over the past year and whatever else pops into my mind that I feel like sharing with you.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Sometimes inspiration can come from just about anywhere and I am so lucky to be part of a great group of gals that share inspiration everyday! One of my fellow demo's posted a link to a video that showed how to make this cute little couple - I liked it so much that I had to try it right away and this is what I came up with

Getting in the Spirit at Holiday Hoopla!

I think I have something special to share that will hopefully inspire you to start thinking about your holiday crafting projects for the upcoming holidays - if you haven't already! I don't know about you, but I never seem to be ahead of the game when it comes to getting ready for Christmas! I put a note in my calendar this year that I will be done by December 1st this year and I think I got a good bump in that direction at Holiday Hoopla!!

One of my Uplines, Marlayne, organized this wonderful event and I went with one of my stampin' buddies, Stephanie! We were up really early (for a Saturday) and spent the day learning about so many wonderful ideas and there were so many great projects we got to see and try! I took lots of pictures of the Share Boards of my fellow demo's ideas, cards, scrap book page layouts and 3d items for the holidays - what great inspiration!! My mind is still whirling with ideas! I don't know where to start *chuckle*

These are the projects that we got to make and take home! Marlayne swears by kits and these projects were all assembled from the kit with a few stamps, embellishments and some ribbon. We got to "make-and-take" them home!! Marlayne is brilliant and in organizing her Holiday Hoopla event, she saved herself some stress by using the Christmas Cheer Simply Scrappin' Kit (Item #117401) and shared a good amount of Marina Mist 1-1/4" Stripped Grossgrain Ribbon (Item #119772) with a couple buttons from the Candy Cane Big Designer Button Set (Item #121718) to make all of the goodies you'll see below!

this is a box about 6"x6" made with designer paper from the kit as well as the snowflakes die cuts (stickers) layered with circle of marina mist cardstock - doesn't the ribbon just look wonderful with it? And all the projects we made fit neatly inside once it was all done!

Isn't that banner lovely! Imagine it on an office door or cubicle at work or hanging in a place of honour just inside the front door to greet your holiday guest?! Did you notice that each letter is set on a different textured piece of card stock? It was so easy to zip them through the Big Shot in the different folders to add that extra bit of pizazz!

Neat little mini 'album' made with a note card and envelop with pull out pages for pictures, comments and more - wouldn't grandma/mom/auntie just love to whip that out of her purse at book club?

Or give the gift of cards? 3 sweet card that all tuck into this adorable top note card holder with gift tag label!

This is a sweet gift card holder. Boarder Punch and the window is punched with the new label punch and the pine cone stamps from the new stamp set!

Have you ever thought to use stamps on textured card stock? Why not! Give it a try and add another dimension to your projects!

Use the window you punched out on the pocket inside the card holder - waste not want not - right!? (I tucked a magnet into the pocket so you can see it better - that's what that black square is *laugh*)

This was so quick and easy, it's almost embarrassing! Why not jazz up some simple treats with a pretty little pocket! You don't even need glue, just tie the ribbon around to hold it together and attach a sweet little tag!

This one was not one of the Make-n-Takes - but I had to show you anyway! This is Bitty Box made with Real Red Card stock with one of our our Big Shot dies (Item #115967), embellished with snow flakes in Whisper White Card stock and the Northern Frost Decorative Strip Die (Item #120901) - one of the Demo's from Demonstrator Theatre not only had 2 great projects to show us but she also made a bunch of these mini boxes to give out at her demonstration station filled with treats - so sweet!

I am seriously trying very hard not to go nuts buying all the neat little box dies they have but this one might just have to be next on the list! So many things you can do with it!! Imagine sneaking little notes/treats into your hubby/kid's lunches? Turn it into gift/ornaments on your tree - just add a bit of ribbon! Or for the gang at the office? Neighbors? Teachers? The Paper Boy/Girl? The Post Carrier? etc. etc.

I'm so glad that I went and got to spend a fun day with a good friend and get inspired for the holiday season that's fast approaching! Fun, Furry Friend!

It was my Dad's birthday Oct 26th and I decided to use my Sock Monkey stamp set (Item #111550) to make his card. The senement is from Heard From The Heart Stamp Set (Item #111644). The Card stock I used was was 8-1/2x11" Card stock in the following colours: Early Esspresso (Item #119686), Poppy Parade (Item #119793) and Very Vanilla (Item #101650), the grey is retired. I used a mini library clip (Item #109857) and a bit of red gingham ribbon (Item #104827) which is a clearance item so will only be available while supplies last. You could also use the new 1/8" Taffeta Ribbon (Item #119251) in Real Red or a co-ordinating colour of your choise.

This is the inside cover - to add some interest I also stampped the balloon from that Sock Monkey set, and used the banana as a background stamp along with some of the scraps I had left over to layer and create another image. The string is hand drawn using Early Esspresso marker as well as the personal message on the small piece of Poppy Parade "On Your Birthday"

This card is great for a man, young or young at heart, with a sense of humour or nastalgia. It could easily be adapted for just about anyone! Change up the colours and add a border punch to give it a more feminie touch?

More Punch Art ... Pretty Purses!!!

I've been sitting on this sweet little project for a while too and finally I'm sharing it with you, I hope you give it a try! I have a friend who has passion for purses! One of my favorite story about her was her trip to New York and the adventure she had shopping for "discount designer purses"! With this in mind, when her birthday rolled around I knew I just had to do something with a purse! Fortunatly for me, there are lots of creative people out there that already figured out how to use punches to make some adorable purses and I used their tips and with a few of my own to create this card for my friend!

The body of the purse is made with the Round Tab Punch (Item # 119864). If you just cut your punched image in half then turn it on it's side you've got the body for the punch - I bumped it up a knotch by mixing and matching my purses by turning my 1/2 tab punched purse in half and used the curvy part to punch out the top to give my purse that 2 toned look - kinda looks like there's a leather flap at the top, don't you think? Then use the 2 oval punches (Large Oval Item #119855 & Small Oval Item #119863 )to create the handles and the word window punch (Item #119857) to create the flap (held in place with a heart brad - not SU). The designer series cardstock was Cottage wall, which is now retired. You can use any combination of DS paper and card stock that appeals to your eye! I layered the purses with a small square of designer series paper on a coordinating square of cardstock and using the Corner Punch (Item #119871) on only 2 oposit corners of each square, created a pin wheel design to add some interests. For the sentement I used the small ovals I punched out fo the centers of the 4 hand bag straps to layer my greeting to add a little pizazz to my card front!

Plain and simple or with a bit of a twist - these little purses can jazz up any project from a card to a scrap book page! Add some couture to your next project with a hand bag or two!

More Punch Art ... Paper Roses!!!

I made this card last summer but hadn't posted it as I hadn't had the chance to give it to the intended recipient! The cardstock and DSP I used is no longer available but I wanted to share the technique with you so that you can give it a try too!

Can you believe that I made that rose and those buds with the new flower punch? Well I did! The moment I saw this technique, I just had to try it. First you punch out 3 flowers with the punch. Then you cut one petal from the first flower (like a pie to the center of the flower) leaving 4 petals and a triangle cut out of it. The next flower, you cut 2 petals together (it will look like a heart) and will leave 3 petals on the other piece. The last flower you leave whole, except for one slit into the middle of the flower between 2 petals.

The buds are just the single, double and triple petals rolled up and curled using your bone folder. It helps if you play with the paper a little bit before you punch out the flowers to make it soft (break up the fibers a little). You can also spung or stamp colour onto the paper to help this process.

First, curl up the single pie piece, rounded edge up and secure with a drop of strong glue (trombo or tacky strip will work) then carefully use the tip of your bone folder and your thumb to curl the rounded edge of the petal over to open up the center of the flower. Then Nip off the tip so that it will nest into the next layer nicely.

Next, the 2 petal 'heart' shaped piece, fold it over onto itself and create a little pocket in the center where you can slip the single petal - this would be a good bud. Again, use your thumb and the tip of your bone folder to curl the edge over. Nip the tip for the next layer.

Continue with the 3, and 4 petal sections, folding over to glue one petal over the other leaving 2 and 3 petals and staggar them together glueing as you go. Continue to trim off the tip before nesting them into the next layer

The last one is the 5 petal flower with the slit, over lap 2 petals making it a 4 petal and glue the others to the center. Trim off the point to flatten it. I used a large glue dot to secure it to the page. Now you can tweak your petals a little and add some greenery to make your rose complete.

I gave it some greenery in a couple shades of green using the 5 petal flower punch and my bone folder to press veins into the leaves before nipping them so that there were 2-3 leaves (petals) per section. Then I added some bling to finish off my card! What do you think? Can you master this 3D punch art? I'll bet you can - these pictures are of my second attempt!! If I can do it, I know you can too!

The 2010-2011 Idea Book & Catalogue was introduced on July 1st, 2010! I've updated my link to the pdf file if you'd like to have a look. There are lots of new sets and many old favorites, new accessories and punches (not to mention the whole new punch body!). The new colour families are great and Stampin' Up will also be offering some great kits to help you update your supplies with the new colours too!

Including Markers, Watercolour Wonder Crayons, Stampin' Pastels, Card stock and Ink pads etc!

Congratulations! It's Twins!

My girlfriend Tanya and her husband Marco are now the proud parents of twin girls! I wanted to make a fun, bright and colourful card to congratulate them on the arrival of their girls so I decided to try a fun Sesame Street inspired card primarily using the Scalloped Circle punch (item #109043).

After I completed the card, I thought I had better make some more of these adorable little characters to document how it is done so that you can give them a try too. The supplies I used are as follows:

1-1/4" Circle Punch (item #104403) 2x 1/2
1" Circle Punch (item #109046) 5x
3/4" Circle Punch (item #107217) 4x
1/2" Circle Punch (item # 104390) 4x
the Itty Bitty Circle punch from the Punch Pack (item #118309) 4x
Boho Blossoms Punch (item #110711) 2x 1/2 1x
Modern Label Punch (item #116630) 2x
Card Stock (Whisper White, Basic Black, Real Red and Retired colours: Bermuda Bay, Brilliant Blue, Glorious Green, Crushed Curry, Barely Banana, Dusty Durango, Caramel)
Markers: Basic Black (item #105394) and Chocolate Chip (item #100071)
Uni-Ball Signo Gel Pen (item #105021)
Snail Adhesive (item #104332)
Stampin' Dimensionals (item #104430)
Paper snips (item #103579)

You will need to punch out your 4 scallops in the 4 primary colours (Brilliant Blue for Cookie Monster, Glorious Green for Oscar the Grouch, Crushed Curry for Big Bird and Real Red for Elmo) you will need to punch out 4x1" Circles of Whisper White and 4x3/4" Circles of Basic Black (for Cookie and Elmo's eyes). Then 4x3/4" Circles of Whisper White and 4xItty Bitty Circle in Basic Black (for Big Bird and Oscar's eyes). Use the Modern Label Punch in Barely Banana and Dusty Durango (Big Bird's beak and Elmo's nose) Also, punch the large blossom from Boho Blossoms in Barely Banana. Another large blossom from the Boho Blossoms punch in Caramel and a 1" Circle as well as (tip: if you punch all 3 blossoms out before you punch your 1" circle for the cookie, you can line up the small flower to look like a bite then nips off a piece from that same small flower to be the "crumbs" in his mouth) colour chocolate chips onto this circle to make it a cookie. For their mouths you will need 2 half (or 3/4) 1-1/4" and 1 half (or 3/4) 1-3/8" circles of Basic Black (Cookie's gotta big mouth!)

Then, assemble all your pieces for each character to make sure you have everything you need. Then, using your snail adhesive and paper snips, assemble your characters.

I used my paper snips to make a wavy cut along the top of each half circle to give it that "furry" lip look like in the drawings.

Cookie Monster's eyes (1" whites, 3/4" black) are always a little cock-eyed and he has the biggest mouth. Make sure to put his eyes on the very top of the scalloped circle, pointed in opposite directions.

Use the uni-gel pen to put a little highlight in the eye and use a dimensional to pop up his cookie, snip the 'crumb' in half and glue the pieces randomly into his mouth.

Using the paper snips, cut out an oval from the center of the Modern Label in Dusty Durango for Elmo's nose. Do not discard the scraps, you will need a part of this for Big Bird's mouth and I used another small piece for Oscar's tongue.

Elmo doesn't have any problems looking you straight in the eye (1" white and 3/4" black) but his nose does tend to hang over his mouth just a bit *grin*. I used the larger circle punch for his mouth too but you can use the 1-1/4" whichever looks better to you. Add a highlight to his eyes too.

Oscar's mouth is smaller then the other 2 because he's not really a smiley type of guy. His eyes are smaller too (3/4" white & itty bitty black). He also has funny bushy eyebrows - the large blossom from the Boho punch cut in half works great

You may need to trim the center of his eyebrows a little to get his eyes close enough and you need to snip his eyes into an angel to give him that frowny looks he's known for. (he looks a little funny at this angel but trust me, that's how he looks *chuckle*) Give his eyes a little highlight too and use your black marker to extend the corners of his mouth.

Of course, I save the trickiest one for last! Big Bird! Here is how I cut the Modern Label punched pieces to make his beak. The top part in Barely Banana (right side) is the top of his beak, the Dusty Durango on the bottom left, is inside his mouth. I also trimmed the left side of the Barely Banana piece to create his lower part of his beak with the Dusty Durango between the 2 BB pieces.

You also need to create eye lids with blue edges for his eyes. I just punched out 2 x 3/4" Circles in Crushed Curry and using the itty bitty punch first, the inner edge of the Bermuda bay before punching out the other edge with the 3/4" punch creating a thin half circle for each eye. Glue these slivers with a little bit of curry showing over the top and then trim out the centers and glue them to his eyes.

The large blossom from the Boho Blossom punched out earlier gets glued to the center of the Scalloped Circle and the beak and eyes are glued close together over this piece - it is to give the suggestion of his extra feathers (on the card, I added 3 "feathers" to the top of his head snipped from the left over pieces used to make his beak).

That is how you make these cute little characters! Since I had already made the first set for my card, I put magnets on the back of these 4 to use as fridge magnets (actually going to gift them to a co-worker for her daughter who just LOVES these characters - she will be THRILLED!!)

I used my 1-3/8" Circle Punch to punch out circles from an old magnet I had. Then used tacky strip to secure each character to their own circle. And here is the gang on my fridge helping to hold up some friends and their art work too!

More Punch Art ... Hula Girl

In my Stamping Group this week, one of my fellow demo's asked about the recipe for a Hula Girl made with punches. Another demo, inspired by the query - whipped out her punches and created the recipe and then posted it on her blog here. I was inspired but I did not have all the same punches so had to improvise...

If you punch the 1" circle punch first - for her face, then the 11/4" (discard this ring) and then the 13/4" to get the larger ring used for the arms. Then punch out her body with the Round Tab, using the 13/4" to trim away the curly cue (not very waist like). I also used the small heart from the Heart to Heart punch (2x cut off one lobe of each heart for her feet)

I used the 11/4" circle punch to create her hair. I used the 5 Petal Flower punch to create her bangs (just using 2 points of the flower). The first time I did this in 2 pieces, the second time, I just punched the bangs from the 1 piece and tucked her face over lapping the punched part.

The grass skirt is the 13/4" circle punch again, using the small oval punch to nip away the part for the waist. Using the paper snips, cut up from the bottom leaving about a 1/4" inch to make the grass part of the skirt.

It's already starting to look like a hula girl and it's not even assembled yet! I used the Itty Bitty Shapes punches to make the flowers and greenery. The centers of the flowers were punched during another project with the large hole on the Crop-a-Dile! These parts will embelish the waist line of the skirt, accent her hair and create the garland around her neck.

Now, line up the waist of your skirt along one flair of the torso. I used the 2-way glue to assemble all the pieces. First gluing the skirt to the torso then the

4 little green bits to the skirt. You don't really need these, but it adds a little je ne say qua to the whole thing. You will have to attach the feet to the background, once your hula girl is assembled and put in place.

Next, you will have to line up your "arms", the large 13/4" circle you pre-cut earlier. Line it up on the back of your torso and trim off any excess "shoulder" material before you assemble the head and put it in place.

I didn't take any pictures of this part, but you will see the finished assembly in the final picture. I glued one of the little left over hearts from the using my Pinking Heart Boarder punch makes a perfect little cupie mouth.

The bangs cut out with the 5 Petal Flower punch (or you can use 1/2 of a 1" circle in the same hair colour CS) layered over the 1" face circle, with the little heart mouth, glue them all together and then using the bottom edge of the hair to attach the head to the torso. Also, assemble all the little flowers with their centers and greenery accents and glue them to hide the edges of the shoulders in a garland fashion.

Now you are ready to place your hula girl on whatever you like, scrapbook page, card or to embellish a gift.

I put my girl in a tropical scene on a card front with a hand cut palm tree, some lovely hand torn sand and a couple of coconuts!

This little gal would also look wonderful with touches from the new Tropical Party stamps set, available in the Summer Mini (page 26). Here are some shots of how I assembled my card and the final product.

It's A Colour Renovation!!!

All of Stampin' Up! is a buzz about the Colour Renovation! Many of the colours you are familiar with are soon going to be retiring and many of the colours that you've come to know over the past few years of "In Colours" will be welcoming back some old friends!

I have been a Bright Bold girl since day one and all but 2 of them are retiring *sniff/sniff* But in the new Bold Collection, I get Rich Razzleberry, Pacific Point and Melon Mombo! And, I do get to keep Real Red and my beloved Tempting Turquoise (my all time favorite!) Some other colours from other families are now under the Bold collection too like Old Olive, Regal Rose and Pumpkin Pie! I love the expanded version of the Neutral, the Regal and the Subtle collections too! I can't wait to see the 2010-2011 Catelogue to see what other changes they have made!

Struck by Inspiration

What are ya gonna do? When inspiration hit ... you gotta be creative! Right?

Here are a couple of cards I made while waiting for a friend to pop by for a visit. It's a new stamp set from a recent order; Water Colour Trio stamp set (I just love it - so pretty!) I used a combination of Bright Bold and Rich Regal colours to make these pretty cards.

This one is Very Vanilla on Rose Red card stock with accents of Tempting Turquoise punched with the Pinking Hearts boarder and corner punch, the Scallop Oval, Large Oval and Oversized Oval punches too. I used my markers with Rose Red and Regal Rose from the Rich Regals and Green Galore and Gable Green from the Bright Bolds. The butterfly was done in Basic Brown, Brilliant Blue, Only Orange with a tiny touch of Yoyo Yellow from the Bright Bolds - but as it was the 3rd stamp without a reload, it's very VERY subtle (touched up the body and added the antenna after stamping).

Note: Rose Red & Regal Rose will both be with the New colours in the "Colour Renovation" but both Gable Green and Green Galore will be retiring at the end of June *sniff sniff* I have been a bright bold girl since day one and I hate to see any of "my" colours retire! But there will be some of the past "In Colours" that will be back as part of the upcoming Colour Renovation. Stay tuned for more on this - or email me for a list of the New Colours and the list of colours that will soon be gone.

This card was just one accident after another! *chuckle* I had intended to put the mounted stamped image with the Tempting Turquoise background on this card front but once I put the ribbon in place, I hadn't left enough room for the edge of the ribbon on the left hand side. I had stamped 3 different image one after the other on a piece of Very Vanilla card stock, and this image was in the middle. For some unknown reason, when I was cutting the 3 images apart, I wasn't paying attention when I lined up my cutter for the right side of this one and cut through through the butterfly! After a moment to think about it, I decided to cut the remaining image in 3 so I could spread them out as I did above. At first I was going to mount them on another piece of cardstock but once I had made the error with the width of my ribbon bubbles, I knew that the solution was to slip the one piece INTO the bubble to get the spread that I wanted... and it worked!

Regal Rose Ribbon, Very Vanilla & Green Galore card stock, Ice Pink Rhinestone brads (same markers as above - 2nd stamp off of the butterfly).

I just love happy accidents, don't you?

I did have one more image but I haven't finished that card yet ... I'll post it as soon as it's finished, I promise!

Punch Happy Cards!

As most of you know, I am a bit of a Punch maniac! I am always so impressed when I see cards that have used the punches in such new and creative ways ... well I hope that I've got one for you!

I made a flower using the new key tag punch that kinda looks like a dandelion on account of the colours I chose *chuckle* I used the oval scallop punch for the clouds and although you cannot see it, the large circle scallop as the base and guide for my key tags. Then filled in the center with the large blossom from the boho blossoms punch (trio)

Then I did some standard layouts with boarder punches - very frilly looking. I love them. I only have the corner punch for the scallop trim and hope I'll be able to get the scallop trim boarder too (I missed it from sale-a-bration!) but I have both corner and boarder pinking heart punches. The new celery green satin ribbon just so pretty too!

It was Hubby's Birthday too so I made one for him as well! Large oval punch, folding tab punch, corner round punch and the new small heart punch but I had to hand trim the wood grain heart with my snips. The large heart punch that I have would have worked perfectly for the blue dotted heart stamped in the background. Note the new bashful blue satin ribbon? And the sweet tiny little library clip?

I hope my cards inspire you to try some of your own!

It's Beginning to Look a lot Like Christmas ...

When my latest order arrived, the inspiration hit and so I made some Christmas cards. I also had a little stamp together with a bunch of my best customers last week and it got the ball rolling. So here are a few of the cards that we made and a few shots of how they came together. Hope this gives you some ideas and gets your inspiration started too!

I bought the new snowflake punch and the first thing I did was to test it out on a scrap piece of velum. Then I used it as a stencil with craft Whisper White and a dauber to make the background on my first card. I then used the trio of small snow flakes from the Serene Snowflakes stamp set with Encore Silver to accent between the large white flakes. I used Real Red to mat the whisper white stamped with the small Snowman from the Snow Buddies Level 2 stamp set from the Holiday Mini (09). I coloured him in with Bright Bold markers and then highlighted the "snow" with White Frost shimmer paint. Used the Season's Greeting stamp from the four the Holidays stamp set and wrapped a bit of silver elastic cord around the whole thing as an accent. I love how it turned out and can't wait to send it off to some lucky friend or family member to enjoy!

The next card that we made is a single layer card and I have to say, I've wanted to try this technique for a while and finally have and I'm pretty impressed with how it turned out. I've always had a hard time with single layer cards but this one just shouts "I'm Awesome!" *chuckle*

To get started, I used the new ornament punch to cut out the shape in a scrap piece of cardboard (used a piece that came in the back of some paper) - keep the ornament that is punched out too so you can use it to mask off to overlap your ornaments!

I used the platinum shimmer paint with a dauber, Real Red and Glorious Green (markers and ink pads), 2 of the 3 small stamps from the Delightful Decorations stamp set and the Merry Christmas stamp from the Four the Holidays stamp set.

Lay you stencil over your card front and then with the dauber, brush lightly along the edges towards the center to create your boarder of the ornament.

If you space them apart, then you won't need to do any blocking. But, if you want to layer your ornaments, put the ornament that you cut out, onto the one you just finished and move the stencil over and repeat the process. Use the template again, to help block for the decorations. Using the small stamps in Green & Red (alternate between ornaments to change it up a little.) Don't forget to use the cut out of the ornament to block the overlapping pieces.

I used a ruler and the Real Red & Glorious Green Bright Bold markers to draw a boarder around the edges of this card after stamping Merry Christmas from the Four the Holidays stamp set. I also used the Soft Suede marker to draw the strings to the top of the card. And here is the final product...

I'm so pleased at how it turned out and the stamp together group really liked it too. I alway enjoy how everyone puts their own little twist on their card that makes each one so special!

For the next card, I started off by using the snowmen stamp from The More the Merrier stamp set, a level 3 hostess set from the current catelogue. I stamped using basic black onto a piece of whisper white card stock, then using the in colour markers to colour them in. I then used the new frost white shimmer paint to accent the snow and high light each of the snow men. I assembled my card using Bermuda Bay card stock for the background and ribbon accent and Taken with Teal to mat my whisper white. I embellished my card by stamping with Taken with Teal the onto whisper white card stock and punching out with the 3/4" circle punch 2 small round stamps from the Delightful Decorations stamp set and jazzing them up with some blue glitter.

I used a couple of dimensional dots to lift up the accents a little and tied a knot in the ribbon and that's another card done.

We did one more project together and I cased this idea from Split Coast Stampers after the project was highlighted on their newsletter a few weeks back check out the Luminary project and see the step by step instruction as well as a video clip. For my version of the luminary, I again used the Snow Buddies level 2 hostess set from the 2009 Holiday Mini and the phrase "Some of my best friends are Flakes" from the retired stamp set Flakey Friends. I used my ruler, the lines from my SU work mat and my embossing styles to score the luminary at 2.5" intervals, as I do not have a score pal - this technique works just fine in a pinch. I also needed to use an alternate method for putting the oval windows into each panel of my luminary. I used a hand cutting tool with a template instead of spellbinders or a bigshot (either of these would have worked much better for the number of luminaries I had to cut out for my stamp together - the cutting blade on my alternate tool went dull before I was finished and did not cut as smoothly for the remaining luminaries - sorry gang!)

Cut 4 pieces of velum slightly smaller then the frame of each oval window, 2 3/8th" to 2 1/4" wide. I used craft whisper white to stamp the phrase "Some of my best friends are flakes!", Encore Silver to stamp the snowflakes around the corners and then heat embossed it with Iridescent Ice. I used the snow swirl in Encore Silver as well to stamp around the oval windows on the outside of the Luminary. Then flipped it over to place the velum panel on the inside using a bit of glue in each corner and along the bottom.

Here I am using the small snowman from the Snow Buddies stamp set on the velum, adding a toque and arms, I then coloured him in using the 2009 In Colour Markers, and Bashful Blue from the Soft Subtle markers for a bit of highlight. Stamped the snowflakes from the same set (small & medium) around the edges with Encore Silver and then put him into the next window. Each window was slightly different by changing the stamps used and the accessories that went with them so that each side of the luminary will be different.

Once all 4 windows are completed, use tacky strip to stick all the edges and the bottom together, add an LED flame less candle and viola, you're done! Cute eh? You can decorate or embelish these little devils however you like - check out the SplitCoastStamper's gallery to see more examples of this craft (including this very project!).

Deck the Halls ... The How To Part

Well, now I've done it! I started off with Stampin' Up! Designer Series paper in my original "Deck The Halls ..." post and then I got a comment on how you can also make them with ribbon!! Oh boy!

The Supplies You'll Need!!

So, here is what you will need to complete this project. Styrofoam ball(s), flat head pins, ribbon (I am using 5/8" wide grosgrain ribbon and 1/4" satin ribbon for the loop to hang it from the tree with), scissors and I highly recommend a thimble as those pins will make your finger tender after a while (especially if you try to make 2 within 24 hours without a thimble!!)

Step 1: Making Your Triangles

When you get started, if the end of your ribbon is not already squared off, snip a straight cut across the end to make it so. Then fold one corner across to the opposite edge, then flip it so you are pinching the folded edge. Then, on the same side as the first fold, bring the excess ribbon down. Again, flip it so that you can pinch the tip (pressing the folded edges firmly) while you snip the excess ribbon straight across the bottom, leaving a nice equilateral triangle.

** Note: If you want to try this with paper, the steps are the same, but you will have to cut your paper into 1"x2" strips, then fold as above and continue with the steps outlined below.

Step 2: Covering the Bottom

Once you have snipped your new triangle free from the remaining ribbon, take a pin and put it into the point of the triangle and pin it to the center of the bottom of the styrofoam ball. Pin each corner in place and line up the other three triangles (repeat step 1 to make all the triangles you need). The four points into the middle will make a nice neat square when you're done this step.

Step 3: Starting the Next Row

Turn the square to a diamond so that the corner points up. Lay your next triangle with the point to the center and the long edge cutting across the point of the diamond. Only pin the 2 corners and not the center point for the rest of the rows going forward. Try to keep your triangles centered on the seam of the triangle beneath.

Step 4: More Rows & Adding the Loop at the Top

Continue adding rows, over lapping the previous seams with the point of the new triangle and pinning the corners outside the center of the triangle beneath. Before you have added to many rows, you'll want to add a piece of ribbon, folded in half with the edges hanging halfway down the ball. I've added a pin at the center top of the ball as well to help secure this in place until the rest of the rows are in place. Keep adding rows until your work your way to the top.

Ooops! I ran out of blue ribbon with only 4 rows to go! No problem. I just switched to the same size ribbon, in green!! It sort of looks like a blue strawberry now, instead of a pine cone but that's ok. I like it anyway! Bet it will look even cooler if you alternated 2 or more colours of ribbon with each new row??!! Oh man! I am gonna have to buy a thimble!! *laugh*

As you can see, you will have to over lap and close the gap and might only have room for 2 final triangles to finish off the top. At this point you can garnish your ornament however you like. Add a bow, some bells or some fancy pins. I like the look of the fancy red shiney ball pins for the base, kinda looks like berries.

And 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 you are all done! I tell you again, if you plan to make more than 1 or 2 of these, I highly recommend a thimble to help push those pins in!

Hiya Crafters!

Do you ever wonder how your fellow crafters end up with such wonderful crafting spaces? All neat and organized with a nook or cranny for every little thing and when they put them up on their blog you think of your own pile of mahem and just wonder how on earth it could ever look as neat and tidy as the pictures on their blogs? Well, I have been wishing and wondering the same thing for a good long time and finally did something about it! After a trip to Ikea to pick up less than $50.00 worth of supplies to help me "get organized"... I already had a couple of floating shelves from them already that had been sitting in the corner of my dinning room since we moved into this place.

When I told my Mom about my idea, she suggested that I move my craft zone out of my dinning room up into our spare bedroom upstairs, however, since I have open houses and stamp togethers with customers and friends more often then family dinners in my dinning room, I am sticking with my plan and I hope that after she sees how great it looks, will forgive me at the next family dinner! (love you Mom!)

Have a look at what I am starting with ... please note that I did make some effort to try and put my stuff into some kind of order on the dinning room table before I got started and yes, I did "clean up" all the left over odds and ends from various other projects that had been on the go prior to this shot ... so trust me when I say that it looks a whole lot better then it did *giggle*

I think you can see some of the items that I purchased from Ikea on the end of the table. Here is a better shot of those "supplies"... 4 rods, 1 long low basket (already filled with ribbon!), 2 taller baskets, some S hooks and a package of 5 magazine holders. I also have Hubby's drill with bits and a package of screws and anchors (which came with the drill bit I needed - totally handy and I recommend that you buy them as a kit as it's much easier to figure out which bit you need if it comes with the anchors in the first place!! I bet a woman came up with that one! *laugh*).

All the dinning room chairs have been moved into the hallway to make it a little easier to maneuver around without bumping into them all the time. Then I dragged out my craft caddies (those 2 white sets of drawers on either side of my hutch). And the plan is to move the hutch against one side of the wall to free up more space on the other side. Here it is all cleaned out but when I tried to move it, it wouldn't budge! Darn, am I going to have to wait until Hubby gets home from work before I can continue this project?? If I do, then he will want to "help" and I want to do this on my own *pout*. Oh, I know, how about I clean out everything in the top of the hutch, all that glass has got to be heavy, right?!! Presto, and change-O, moved with very little effort after it was emptied from the middle up!

*happy dance with Bosco (the dog) for 15 minutes before continuing* He didn't know what to do with himself with all the discombobulations going on so I put him in the back yard for a spell to keep him out from under foot (which is really ontop of foot as he's nearly as big as I am! *laugh*

Ok, so after emptying the top part of the hutch and shoving it over as far as it would go, I checked to see if my floating shelf would fit in the remaining space *fingers crossed*

Unfortunately, with the maneuvers I had to do to get the first one up by myself, I just could not take pictures at the same time! *laugh* So, you'll just have to take my word for it, I sat in a chair and held the support bar for the shelf up against the wall with both feet and drilled all the holes as quick as a button with the drill! I'm sure that handyman everywhere are having strokes thinking about me doing that but it worked and the shelf was level when I was done! *laugh*

See!! It worked. My tools are not rolling around in any direction! They are sitting right where I put them. The next step is to measure the amount of space I will need over the shelf for my first rod. So, with 1 magazine box and the larger of the 2 baskets in place, it should take about ... THIS much space! Oh, this is so exciting, it's coming together and I just can't wait for the finished product! Hmmmm, maybe I should have bought 2 baskets for ribbon?

Anyway ... you must be wondering by now, what I'm doing with that shoe on my shelf? Well the long story is, we're in the process of ripping up the basement and I just couldn't find my handy dandy hammer that is usually in my junk drawer in the kitchen. In a pinch, a nice sturdy heel works great as a hammer to tap those pesky little plastic anchors into the holes!

Ok, so maybe I did it more for a laugh then anything but come on, it was pretty funny! I love that "woman's tool kit" joke that is a butter knife and a high heel shoe! *giggle* Ok, onward and upward we go. I installed the 4 rods and then reached the limits of my reach (I knew I could not pull the same maneuver I had earlier to install the top shelf, so I would have to wait until Hubby gets home for that one, bless him and his 6'6" stature!)

And as it happens, that is about when he called me to come pick him up from work. I can't tell you how excited I got from my adventures in organizing today! Now, you will see the proper handyman way of installing a shelf using all the proper tools including a real hammer! *laugh*

And that's it! I spent the rest of the evening going through my drawers to re-organized the contents, packing away the retired items to another location and moving things that I don't use everyday up to the top shelf out of the way! Oh, and I put all the stuff back in the hutch too. Maybe this isn't how you want your dinning room to look but for me, it's a little slice of heaven!

I'd love to hear your comments, tips or suggestions too so please feel free to drop me a note! And I think any of the above little tips could be put to good use in any small space you have for your crafting! If you can't spread out, then go UP!!

Deck the halls ...

While going through my emails, getting caught up with what's been happening with my fellow SU Demos, someone had these cute little ornaments posted on their blog. They had a link to another site with instructions on how to make them (I am very sorry but I can't find either page now- if you know, please let me know so I can update my blog with their information!) The idea, stuck with me and I just had to give it a try.

This neat little paper pine cone ornaments was made with a scrap of last year's Designer Series paper cut into 2"x1" strips that are folded into triangles (outer points folded down into the center then flipped over, point down) and pinned into a styrofoam ball.

Start at the bottom with 4 triangles then work your way up (I used 5 after the first 4 triangle which made a pretty pattern alternating the 2 sides of the paper to create the patter you see. You will also need to lay your 2 open ends of ribbon over the top half of the ball as you pin towards the top. The paper and pins holds the ribbon secure.

On the site that I saw, they used flathead pins to secure the triangles in place but I didn't have any when I decided to give it a try so I used a bunch of fancy pins (in multi colours the first time, then swapped them out for all red ones for these photos.) I kinda liked the dimention the pins added to the over all look - what do you think?

I bought the styrofoam balls, 8 for a $1.00 at the dollar store and the red fancy pins 100/pkg for $3.50 at Walmart. I plan to try more of these with the various scraps of DS paper that I have left over from other projects, I can't wait to add them to my tree this year or gift them to friends and family!

I just wanted to say a nice big THANK YOU to all the crafting ANGELS that answered the call and placed an order with me last week. You did it and I am still active!

With renewed inspiration for my business I have a few projects in mind for you to keep your eye out for! The first one, which I am currently working on and will be posting soon is all about how I am trying to organize my crafting zone! I will take pictures of the items I bought and then before, during and after shots of getting organized.

I don't know about you, but I love seeing the shots of other people's crafting areas but they are always so neat and tidy (for the pictures) that I just can't imagine that they are used!! *giggle* So, I plan to show you the steps that I am going to take and the tips that I've picked up to help get organized. Maybe it will help you in your crafting rooms too?

Looking for a "Hail Mary"

Hello Out there,

Yep, I'm still here ... well, for a little while longer anyway! Life has thrown a few curve balls my way and while I've been working on those, I've let my little stamping business slip and slide to the way side.

With the recent nip and the hint of snow that has blown through the air has brought my attention back, only to find that my little business is at a cross roads. If I can gather enough in orders to make my quarterly minimum then I'll be ok. OR If I do nothing, I will be de-activated and that's it.

Since a few of you have already put out the feelers to see what I have planned for the upcoming Holiday Season, I am going to try for a Hail Mary to pull my keester out of the fire! So, I'm putting it out there ... if you have an order that you've been sitting on all summer, now is the time!!! I have to place an order by October 30th *eek!* I thought I had more time!!

I have already been planning to have a stamp together in November (long overdue rain check for the party I cancelled back in April!) but I might have to bump that up to sometime in the next 2 weeks!

One of my book club girls is in the hospital and I just got word today that her surgery went really well! The girls are chomping at the bit to visit and see for themselves but in the meantime, I've whipped out a "GET BETTER SOON" card inspired by a scrapbook page, created by Linda W.

I did mix some old (retired DSP) with some new (in colours) but all the punches, stamps and inks are all current.

This is a 5.5" x 8.5" card kiwi kiss card stock
Pirouette Pink, trimmed to 5"x 7.5" with 3" circle cut out and scalloped punched bottom edge. Very Vanilla 2.75" circle (used the "scrap" pieces from these on the inside of the card) stamped with Love you much and Friend to Friend from the Love you much stamp set (Item #113756).

I also used Kiwi Kiss/Very Vanilla 3/8" Satin Ribbon (item # 111879) and fire circle brads (item # 109110) on the flowers I punched out using my 5 petal flower punch (item # 109041) and boho blossoms punch (item # 110711) and added brightly coloured hearts using the heart to heart punch (item # 113694). I used left over pieces of retired DSP to embellish and accent my card.

I really liked how this card turned out and I think I will use this lay out again!

Just an example how you can use small stamps to make a larger impact by repeating/creating a pattern.

I made a similar panel to go inside the card with roses on opposite corners and the greeting "may all your wishes come true" as well as a co-ordinating envelope with roses in the corners again.

I used this retired stamp set as my friend collects Royal Albert "Country Rose" china and this is my version of it for her card.

It's Baby Shower Diaper Cake - But you can't eat it! laugh

Today I saw a beautiful Baby Shower Cake that one of my fellow Demo, Jo-ann Pullen, made recently. It reminded me of the Diaper Cake (above) I made for a co-worker's baby shower before I became a demo. I thought I would post how I put mine together to give you guys another idea of how you can make your own. Next one I make will be so much better now that I am an SU Demo as there are so many more things that I can do to jazz up my cake!

I made my cake with 2 packages of diapers. I used cloths pins to hold the diapers together while I was assembling as I didn't have an extra set of hands. I linked them together until I had enough to make a ring (waistband in the middle and fold to the outside). With the last cloths pin closing the circle, I tied my ribbons around the outside to hold them together.

On Jo-ann's cake, she used bright and beautiful selections of SU Designer Series Paper to hold the diapers in place, with a co-ordinating ribbon which was just beautiful.

For the top layer of "cake" I folded the waist band in to reduce the diameter of the top ring to give it the classic cake look. The assembly is the same as the first layer but it's a little trickier with the fold wanting to push everything apart.

If you can't find one of those fancy tinfoiled covered cake platter you can also make your own. I made mine using green ribbon in a box pleat ruffle, stapled to a cardboard circle cut from a box, wrapped with baby wrapping paper (it had little pink, blue, yellow and green foot prints all over it ... can you say "aaaawwwww!"?) Even at this stage, it is a lovely gift, wrap in celo and away you go - a little bit fancier then just a package of diapers in wrapping paper!

Once the layers were assembled, I took it a step further by decorated the whole cake with baby items, booties, toys, lotions and creams, stuffies and onesies! All the little things that New Mom & Dad are going to need with the new bundle of joy. Several girls from the office donated a few dollars each to provide the supples for this cake and I donated my time, did the shopping and all the little extras that made this cake so festive.

I secured the various items to the binding ribbon with thinner ribbon to keep it in place and add a touch more "cute" factor. There was a sweet little green soother in a protective case being hugged by another little frog stuffy on this side.

Even from the back this cake is cute! The little blankie with the teddy bear head was the "icing" between the layers. A cute little outfit and another pair of booties. The sky and your imagination is the limit for this wonderful gift idea. The New Parents are gonna love you for the extra diapers and what ever else you add to your cake.

Give it a try next time you need a gift for an expectant Mom or Dad to be! It also makes a great center piece for the Buffet Table!

For those of you that whated to see some of the Tags from the Christmas Tag Swap 2008, hosted by Chrystal!

The first 2 tags in this video are mine (I got them back with the rest of my swaps - hope no-one missed out! *giggle*) I will be adding credits for all the tags that I know who made them. I did have a few no names so if your tag is in this video, please let me know so I can give you credit!
