wondering... I have 16 yrs experience as LVN working 10 plus years with hospice, 6 plus years in home health and 3 years working long term care. Currently in RN school withj sch to graduate in Dec 2011. for what I can tell travel nursing requires min 12 months acute care experience in hospital. i was wondering if my experience as LVN might help me be able ito work travel nurse when graduate RN

ER vs ICU

I am an ER nurse that switched over from a cancer center. My husband is in the so we move every 2 to 3 years. I used to work at a large cancer center and i absolutely loved it. Unfortanately my husbands job moved us to a small southern town. Besides the terrible terrible pay I am so sick of the attitudes of the entire hospital. Espeically the attitudes I get everytime I admit a patient to the ICU. Everyone always seems to think that their specialty is smarter then the other specialty...well guess what...each specialty has their strengths and weaknesses! If we would just listen to each other maybe we will learn from one another!!! Is it like this everwhere?? I want to run back to oncology as soon as we move somewhere that has another cancer center!

Painless pain

When did it become acceptable to have pain without showing any s/s of pain? It's turning into a epidemic in my hospital.Can you explain more about what you're seeing?what u want to say........can u discuss me briefly,,,,,,,,so it will helpful for me

EFFECTS OF DEGREE FROM NON ACCREDITED UNIVERSITY???

A UNIVERSITY IN UTAH OFFERS SEVERAL MASTERS AND DOCORAL PROGRAMS IN NURSING, BUT WHEN YOU GET TO CHECKING THEM OUT DISCOVER THAT IT HAS NOT NURSING ACCREDIATIONS. DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW THAT AFFECTS THE DEGREE AWARDED AT THE END.

issues in the ed

hello guys i work in the emergency department. many of new hired nurses and new grads came in in the past year witn no or minimal experience in the acute care. we have been having issues with medications in the emergency situations, or patients who come with allergic reactions. wrong medications being pulled out or given innapropriately(route). i want to develop some kinds of help cards and a poster to help new nurses and keep up their education. any ideas...? please help

Pediatric Stories

After reading ER pet peeves I thought it would be interesting to hear some pediatric stories.

I had this one mother call the office and ask if the stomach flu that was going around was contagious.

I was preparing a five year old for his physical so I gave him a little cup and told him to go into the bathroom and to pee in the cup. He came out with cup full but was crying I asked him was wrong and he said now do I have to drink it.

Hi Patricia, I worked in peds for 11 years and have several faverate stories. One that always makes me smile was when a very busy pedi doc was dictating a h&p. By the time transcription got done with it the chart read "I saw the patient in my office earlier this week, the mother was concerned she would not be able to give her child the meds on schedule, therefore she was shot" The doctor took a lot of kidding about how seriously he took noncompliance over that one!
