Date: Wednesday, April 27, 2011
Time: 1:30 – 3:30pm
Location: Ewing 346, Lansdowne

This workshop will be of interest to anyone who wants to learn or refresh their skills about classroom assessment using an Appreciative Inquiry methodology. The workshop is being delivered as a result of a number of queries from faculty about how to encourage and support learning while being honest and direct about learning expectations. Asking the question “What has this student learned?” instead of “What did this student get wrong?” is the premise behind this workshop. Think of the difference between starting with 100 points and subtracting for every wrong answer and the idea of starting with a statement like “I appreciate that this student has undergone learning in my class and how can I ask about that learning so that I can translate the student’s learning into a mark or letter grade.”

The workshop will be facilitated by Nancy Randall, who recently retired from her position as the Director of the Teaching and Learning Centre at Vancouver Island University. Nancy is a certified Appreciative Inquiry Facilitator. Click here to register.
