MARKET COMMENT July 2, 2009 Maybe, maybe not—this is all I can say since bulls have repeatedly demonstrated their “energizer bunny” quality.

MARKET COMMENT July 2, 2009 Maybe, maybe not—this is all I can say since bulls have repeatedly demonstrated their “energizer bunny” quality. Maybe over the weekend investors will forget about the sting of today’s drop as no doubt the powers that be will roll-out their spokesmen to cheer everyone up. This action is why over roughly the past two months our cash balances have been high. Once we got the weekly DeMark sequential 9 counts we were expecting a reaction.

MARKET COMMENT June 30, 2009 Um, “worse than expected”?

MARKET COMMENT June 30, 2009 Um, “worse than expected”? I guess that sums it up today as Consumer Confidence data was terrible. Stock price declines today were milder than expected given the news. But, silly me, I forget that this is the quarter and mid-year end—there are bonuses to be had and bullish headlines to be written.

MARKET COMMENT June 29, 2009 I thought this deliberate end-of-month/quarter shenanigans were against the rules right?

MARKET COMMENT June 29, 2009 I thought this deliberate end-of-month/quarter shenanigans were against the rules right? Oh, they don’t enforce this type of activity—never have, never will. Anyway, with volume ultra-light, or absent bullish news for that matter, propping markets can be done with ease since it takes just a little paint to push things in the desired direction. Breadth was positive but volume was beneath significant.

ABSURD INVERSE & LEVERAGED ETF PRODUCT WHINING June 28, 2009 I’m a fan of these products and glad they’re available. They like any other security or product need to be used properly. When used correctly they allow individual investors and advisors the opportunity to hedge and/or add more potential return to index based securities. An avalanche of complaints have come recently by those taking the most egregious form of leveraged product use—buy and hold to tar the entire group negatively.

MARKET COMMENT June 25, 2009 Okay, sometimes it’s good to miss a couple of days. Everything and nothing has happened. Yesterday it was the amazingly boring and meandering Fed statement that had a little something for everybody. (How many “buts” can you stuff in this thing?

MARKET COMMENT June 18, 2009 I thought it might be entertaining at least but the show was a bust—a bore—a ramped, camped and dumped deal. Bull’s got excited early with (ho hum) “better than expected” employment data and Leading Economic Indicators. Then financials got a lift from Turbo-Timmy’s testimony. With quad witching starting you’d think we’d have more volume but there was little.

MARKET COMMENT June 16, 2009 Bulls got some early cheer from homebuilders but that quickly faded with a (ahem) worse than expected decline in industrial production.

MARKET COMMENT June 16, 2009 Bulls got some early cheer from homebuilders but that quickly faded with a (ahem) worse than expected decline in industrial production. Bulls need a catalyst and a stronger flow of funds to markets. Now it seems many are either just bored with conditions or lack motivation born by an inflow of fresh funds. Volume remains as light as a slow day in mid-August.

MARKET COMMENT June 15, 2009 The only positive from today is Monday’s have proven to be good buying days of late.

MARKET COMMENT June 15, 2009 The only positive from today is Monday’s have proven to be good buying days of late. But that’s the only thing. Clearly some complacency (“the bottom’s in” and etc) combined with light volume (SPY traded only 180 million shares Friday) allowed markets to be pushed higher by those who could do it. Getting sucked in with them has always been the danger as the game often is to dump their accumulated stock to you once you step in.

MARKET COMMENT June 11, 2009 That’s sort of the way I see the buying—tentative. No one seems to be throwing everything they’ve got at markets. Days like today have been common. Investors start strongly but then take a few steps back.
