Gathsmine — 0
Hippo FC — 5

The Sugar Sugar Boys continued from where they left by registering a very important away win. They buried Gathsmine FC on their own backyard, courtesy of 2 goals from the captain Dominic Chungwa, who is now the leading goal scorer. With this performance, Hippo FC maintains its poll position. We hope the boys will continue with this fine run.

Our brothers at Mwenezana registered their second win when they beat Ruwa United by 2 goals to nil at Mwenezana, while Mkwasine drew 2 all with Mutare City Rovers. Unfortunately Triangle lost 2 – 1 to Setheo United in Masvingo.

The results from all the matches were as follows:

Recently they donated 17 blankets to the male ward at Chiredzi District Hospital. The male ward was identified as being the most in need of assistance at this present moment. Although a lot still needs to be done, it is inspiring to know that people are able to reach out to others even when things are very difficult.

Valentine's Day

Legend has it that Valentine's Day originates from around 269AD. At the time, Emperor Claudius II ruled the Roman Empire and was involved in many bloody and unpopular military campaigns.

Claudius the Cruel, as he came to be known, struggled to convince men to enlist in his army. Believing that married men were reluctant to leave their wives and families, he banned marriages and engagements. During this time, a priest named Valentine continued to marry couples in secret. When the Emperor learned of this, Valentine was arrested and sentenced to death on 14th February.

Whilst imprisoned, Valentine befriended his jailer's blind daughter with whom he spent much time talking. It is reported that his strong faith combined with his love and admiration of the girl, miraculously healed her blindness. On the day of his execution, Saint Valentine left his Love a farewell note which he signed, "from your Valentine".

Choosing the Perfect Gift for Her

When we started dating, our gifts were flamboyant and extravagant. We took time in choosing the 'perfect' romantic gift for her. Unfortunately, it's all too easy to become complacent and hurriedly buy something at the last minute. This year, let's treat our lady to something really special and see what happens.

The Chingele Children's Home houses around 60 adored children. Although they are without mothers and fathers, they are loved and nurtured, providing them with a home-like environment in which to thrive. The home has a large room where the village elders and family members can meet through the week and interact with the children.

Due to the wet weather surrounding Chiredzi areas, the Lion members opted to hand over the 10 blankets, 100kgs maize meal and some items of clothing to the Director at Life Sowing Ministries on behalf of the children.

They are fully voluntary and with a mandate to extend a helping hand to those in need in their communities.

Have you taken more than you have put back?

With the lovely rain we've been having lately in Chiredzi, many people are taking some time out to work in their garden. Gardening has many benefits. The most obvious being exercise, and then of course the pure joy of watching what you have sowed grow, whether it is vegetables, the lawn or a tree. Be part of the change you want to see.

May you all have a beautiful break over Christmas and be refreshed for 2012.

At the end of each football season, Hippo FC celebrates its many achievements. This year was no different. The annual Hippo FC Chairman's Awards function was held on Sunday, 11th December 2011 at the Polo Crosse Club in Hippo Valley Estates.

This is an opportunity for the Hippo FC team, players, executives, loyal fans, sponsors and invited guests to come together and recognise those that excelled and the achievements of the team. This year Hippo FC decisively won the Sylvia Dube Trophy but undeservedly came second in the first division, (despite having scored the most goals).

The evening also saw the launch of the official club calendar for 2012. This limited edition collectable is now on sale and is a must for every football fan. Designed by EWAY Chiredzi, the calendar is already being talked about and is very much in demand.

AMC FC — 0
Hippo FC — 2

Hippo FC went on to lift the Sylvia Dube Trophy after dismissing AMC FC by 2 goals to nil at Gibbo Stadium on Saturday, 10th December 2011.

The Sugar Sugar Boys opened their account in the first half when Ronald Pfumbidzai flighted a corner kick to the blind side where Lawrence Khumbula nodded to set up Abel Machaka for the opener.

AMC were quite a determined lot and caused all sorts of anxious moments but failed to find the target. In the dying minutes of the game Codias Siwempi put the game beyond AMC’s reach after some excellent work on the left flank!

In the 3rd and 4th place play offs, Triangle FC beat Mutare United by 2 goals to nil.

The annual Christmas Fair & Lions Car Boot Sale at Murray MacDougall School on Saturday 10th December 2011 was very well attended. The event was held to coincide with the swimming gala, meaning that spectators from across Zimbabwe were there.

Once the gala was over, people flooded the school hall to get down to some serious Christmas shopping. Stalls had everything you could want, including Christmas treats, artistic crafts, fine jewellery, designer bags, fashions, linen, hardware, tools, bric-a-brac and the amazing range of Sh'Zen skincare and beauty products.

When you got tired of shopping - mainly the guys - there was plenty to eat and drink.

Local representatives for Honey Jewellery, Angel Lifestyle, Sh'Zen Bodycare and the proudly Zimbabwean, Linen for Africa were there to showcase their extensive ranges.

Shoppers were engulfed in the exquisite scents of the Sh'Zen products, open mouthed at the elaborate pieces of Honey Jewellery and delighted by the complete Angel Lifestyle range. With such a variety of items on offer, trade was brisk and customers spoilt for choice.

Many people commented that, "in Chiredzi, we are not used to such good quality products" and that "usually there's no choice, so we all end up owning the same boring things". One delighted shopper commented that, "the people that missed this are going to be sooooo jealous — it was a whole new thing for Chiredzi. Just perfect. You could shop, eat and relax - even dance - just look at everything I bought."
