Lauren, these were such fun. I came home with a "present" on the bottom of my shoe! I guess better me than you. That wasn't the fun part.

Once again, you picked the perfect outfit. I seriously think you need to be a stylist. I am really glad we squeezed this shoot in at the last minute. We found the time, because you were always right on top of things and there when I needed for you to be. I truly appreciate that about you!

Feeding My Creative Soul

This has been a challenging season for my photography. As most of you know, I have had several camera issues this season. (Canon is not my best friend at this time.) In spite of the struggles, I am always amazed at the end results. When I see the beautiful faces of you or your children on my computer screen, it is always like a "first time". I am forever in awe of the beauty before me. Each and every shoot I have, brings its own challenges and its special joys.

This year, I have been blessed in so many ways. Although I love taking photos of high school seniors, it is when those seniors bring something new to the day, that makes my creative soul feel alive. This year I had a swimmer, a golfer, an actor and a ballerina who let me peek inside their world and capture it with my camera.

This photo captures the very essence of who I am as a photographer. The magical lighting, the mysterious ballerina, the excitement of clicking the shutter at the very split second in time which captured this fleeting moment, a moment that we will never be able to recreate. This photo, and so may others I have captured this season, completely feed my soul. They erase all of the moments of frustration with scheduling (uh huh, you know who you are, LOL), make me forget the squabbling of sisters and extinguish all my camera worries and woes. They make trekking through a creek bed and sweating buckets in the heat of a summer day all worth while. They make tumbling backwards over a boulder with a camera in each hand, a mere faint memory.

As this season of photography comes to a close, to each of you, who have made this year unforgettable, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Patsy Maxim: Ballet Western Reserve

Over the last few days, I have had the joy and honor of photographing 2011 senior angel Patsy, in a performance of Snow White. Patsy has been dancing with Ballet Western Reserve for 14 years. Photographing the ballet is very new to me and I have enjoyed it so much. Thank you Patsy, for letting me share in this special ...part of your life. BTW, it really made a lot more sense when everyone had on their costumes. LOL This slideshow is from a run-through they did on Tuesday night.

New EAP Cancellation Policy

As a result of several last minute cancellations with scheduling this year, as of today, 10/24/2010, there will be a $50.00 rescheduling fee for all sessions that have to be rescheduled for anything other than pink eye, a bad case of rosacea, a broken limb, a black eye or a major tragedy. (Okay, you get what I mean.) You can't just get up and decide you would rather work on something else and toy with my schedule, especially at this time of year, when the cold days are moving in and the light is fading earlier and earlier each day. If I have you scheduled, I probably turned someone else down for that day. When you cancel that close to a session, I have no time to re-book that time frame and as a result, I am wasting valuable daylight and warmth because of your inconsideration. If you have to reschedule because of a school function, don't let me know two days before. Let me know as soon as you know!

EAP must be notified of a rescheduling / cancellation at least 3 days / 72 hours prior to your scheduled session. Letting me know a day or two before or the day of your session is totally unacceptable and results in a loss of income for EAP.

The rescheduling fee will have to be paid before the actual rescheduled session is to take place.

Do I sound upset? Why, yes I do. Is it bad business? Probably. But the fact is, I do this more for the joy, than for the money and when you disrespect me and my time, you take away that joy.

Youngstown Icon, The Golden Dawn

A Youngstown icon, The Golden Dawn is owned by the Naples family, the family of one of my class of 2010 Angels. I couldn't miss this opportunity to share a review of Golden Dawn on the blog Youngstown Eats.

The "Dawn" as the locals call it, was also the location for a visit from Vice President, Joe Biden and Ohio Governor, Ted Strickland this past week.

If you haven't been to Golden Dawn in a while, stop in and get a pizza. It has the best pizza crust I have ever eaten. Allie says the hamburgers are also incredible!

Lauren (Senior Model 2011)

I had such a great time taking these photos of Lauren. I think Lauren, on the other hand, somewhat feared for her life. It was my first time ever driving a golf cart and quite frankly, I think I did an amazing job. We did take a couple curves on two wheels, but what is life if not an adventure? It was meant to be lived on two wheels! Lauren, it was such fun to watch you "do your thing". My husband, who knows golf, says you have real promise! Thank you for sharing this part of your life with me and for trusting me to create a lasting memory of it for you.

Lauren is captain of the golf team at Ursuline High School.

Disclaimer #1: Lauren didn't really have that much trouble getting out of the sand trap. We "played it up" for photographic purposes! She is better than that!

Disclaimer #2: You can't REALLY go through life on two wheels. You might kill yourself or hurt someone else.

Meet the Angels of the 2011 Senior Class. They are an amazing group of young ladies. I have a swimmer, a ballerina, a golfer, an actress, three cheerleaders, a tennis player and a soccer player. They have a sense of style all their own. They laugh at my bad bad jokes. They help me drag chairs all over two counties. They climb over things or under things. They drink my gatorade :/. They brighten my day with their lovely smiles, each and every one. Thank you to all of you, for letting me be a part of this special time in your lives. I have known Jenny since she was three years old, a child of my heart, if not of my blood. Jenny is always there to lend a helping hand with the photo sessions I do in her area, holding reflectors, fetching a coke for me and sharing the joy of knowing when I got THAT photo! The one I know will be THE photo from the session. She makes all my models feel right at home. She is also a great location scout. Jenny, this is my gift to you, for being there for me.

New Website Features!

I am happy to announce some great new features on the EAP website. The site has been "redecorated" with a drop down menu at the top.

The DVD sample videos are now high quality when viewed. They automatically load in HQ. They look awesome! I am really excited about this! If you have a slower connection, you can click the HQ button on the video screen to get a lower resolution.

Last, but certainly not least, there is a new LIVE CHAT feature on my website. You can talk to me in real time, directly from my website using Windows Live, if you have any questions, or just want to shoot the breeze.

Kodak Photo of the Day (Big Bad Badger Braves)

The Big Bad Badger Braves keep on winning!

It is an honor to have a photo selected as Photo of the Day from Kodak. Their submissions come from all over the entire world and the volume of entries they receive must be astounding. I seldom enter contests these days, but I knew this was a special photo the minute I clicked the shutter. I submitted it in September, knowing that Kodak usually picks photos on a seasonal basis. When it wasn't chosen during footbball season, I assumed my football players didn't make the cut. (pun intended, LOL) Then a few days ago, I received the following message from Kodak.

Dear Carolyn,

I'm one of the editors for Kodak's Picture of the Day and I'm writing to say Congratulations!

"Big Bad Badger Braves" has been selected to be our Picture of the Day on February 7, 2010. It will be the perfect picture for Super Bowl Sunday.

How cool is that? They saved my football photo for SUPER BOWL SUNDAY!

Congrats and thank you to DAYTON RAUGHT, a child of my heart , who is the reason I was there to take this picture in the first place!

[Although I am certainly thrilled to have my photo chosen as POTD by Kodak, I am saddened that they no longer show their Photo of the Day winners on the huge Kodak screen in Times Square. Kodak has displayed the winners on the screen in Times Square for as many years as I have been shooting digital. It seems they have now decided to go in another direction. It takes a bit of joy out of the win, knowing it won't be displayed in Time Square. I sincerely apologize to anyone who was expecting to see it there on Superbowl Sunday. I was unaware that Kodak had changed their policy.]

Love is Patient, Love is Kind...Mandie & Vince

I spent a wonderful, albeit ~~chilly~~ COLD afternoon with an adorable couple, ~~Victor~~ Vince & Mandie. (That's all the strikethroughs, I promise) Mandie contacted me a few years ago to create her senior pictures, but due to health circumstances, I was unable to work with her at that time . Luckily for me, Mandie didn't forget about me and when she became engaged she contacted me for engagement photos.

Vince is a marine who was home on leave for the holidays, and will soon return to duty, this time in North Carolina. We had a very small window of time in which to work, so we had to brave the elements to get it done! A day that started out as a winter wonderland, turned into a wet drippy slushy cold mess, but we worked it anyway. Mandie and Vince were such good sports. We were all trying to keep warm, sloshing through the snow, and doing it with smiles on our faces. Of course, they had their love to keep them warm. All I had was a Gap windbreaker with a hooded sweatshirt under it and a pair of very leaky boots!

It was a joy to work with you Mandie & Vince. In your sweet, quiet, whispering moments, I recalled my youth and a new love, a love I have had in my heart and in my life for 29 years. I wish for you many many years of happiness. I am honored to be a part of your beginning.

Badger Brave JVs finish season of perfection!

The Kinsman Badger Braves ruled the roost in the junior-varsity division of the Ashtabula Midget Football League during the 2009 season.

The Braves completed a perfect season by defeating the Ashtabula Jets, 25-0, in the JV Super Bowl Bowl of the AFML against the Ashtabula Jets on Saturday night at Lakeside Stadium.

(A sports photographer I am not, cut me some slack. It was still great fun.)

Once again...Allie, thank you for your patience. It was an absolute joy to work with you, although I am more than just a little bit jealous of your height and those long legs. You did an absolutely perfect job of picking out outfits for your sessions! I can just see it now...ANTM...I knew her when.

Session I

It never ceases to amaze me, the beauty of the girls of which I am asked to take senior photos. There was once a joke made about me having a bucket full of pretty people that I just pluck models out of when I want to take a photograph. Well, that bucket is beginning to overflow!

Once again, I have a gorgeous model to work with...The beautiful Miss Rena, whose hair all by itself is enough to make you want to hate on her, but you can't because she is just so darn sweet.

Apparently Rena's mom has been standing on her head, waiting for this post, something about "That d*mn Cari". You guys do realize I have a life, right? LOL It is a huge compliment to have people so looking forward to your work that they check your blog every single day in anticipation, and swear at you when you haven't posted their child's photos. LOL Hugs to you all for being my biggest fans.

So here you go Lori (and Jeff). Here is a peek of your little beauty in a way in which I'll bet you have never seen her before.

Sometimes when going through a group of my photographs, I am moved beyond words. Such was the emotion that poured out of me as I began work on this image of Michelle and her new baby girl, Kendall. The love on Michelle's face, the comfort and security on little Kendall's face and the peacefullness shared between the two of them melts this mother's heart. Thank you Michelle and Joe for letting me share in the joy of your love for this precious little one. Treasure her always.

A New Life

I laid my hands and my heart upon a new life today, not yet seven days old. Her skin pink, her hair gold. Her father Joe, one of my son's best friends. Her mother Michelle, a child of my heart since she was only 14. I watched Michelle ~~love~~ adore this new life she held in her hands and it made my heart swell.

Dayton Raught Racing

Dayton is not only a handsome young man, but a young man who can handle an MX bike! I was stunned the first time I saw little Dayton take off on that bike. Remember this name. He will be famous one day. He has the whole package, looks and talent! Thanks for the great experience Dayton. It was a blast to photograph you and your bike.
