Beautiful fall

It has been a beautiful fall so far, with mild temperatures and gorgeous colors. I plan to take the rest of the docks out this week. Gunnar and I have shot quite a few ducks this fall. We have had a few duck and grouse hunters stay at the resort. We do allow hunting dogs, but not in the cabins. They are allowed in their own porta-kennel in our heated garage. The diver ducks are starting to pour in, and the grouse woods are starting to clear out. Maybe you can put a last minute trip together. We still have openings for deer hunting as well. Our late season rates are $50/adult per night and $25/kid (k-12) per night (minimum $100/night). Bryan

After a rough start to summer, we have had some beautiful weather lately. And our guests have been taking advantage of it! Watersports, crappies off the dock, yoga on the beach, and, of course, bingo and the waterslide. If your view this morning is a string of cars and trucks on the highway, you should start making plans to head north for a quick getaway in August or September. After a very rainy June, the lake is about a foot high, but it’s definitely summer here! This photo is from the hill above the beach today. We have openings throughout the summer. Call for a last minute escape from the city. Bryan

Fishing is great!

We had an excellent opener and second weekend at Eagle Nest Lodge. The ice went out on Thursday, May 8, and we were busy putting docks in that day to prepare for our opener guests coming the next day. By Saturday evening, all of the slips were up and running! The weather opening weekend was beautiful, and our guys caught a LOT of fish…mostly big fish, so not many keepers. But they sure had fun catching some pigs. The second weekend was very busy and excellent fishing made it worth being here. Our guests again caught lots of fish, but many more keepers this weekend. There were lots of fish fries going on around the resort. Gunnar and Susie caught a bunch of nice crappies in front of the resort Sunday evening, too! With a beautiful forecast, and we think shiners will be available, Memorial Weekend might be the best fishing weekend of the year! We have cabins available if you want to make last minute plans to come up and enjoy the lake as we kick off summer at ENL! Bryan

There are a couple patches of slushy ice floating around Cutfoot today. They will be gone tomorrow. We will start putting docks in tomorrow and will be mostly ready for opener! Here we go!! Bryan

Happy May Day!

Last year we were hollering mayday. This year, we’re celebrating May Day. The ice is changing a lot every day. There are big patches of open water all over the lake. Sheets are breaking off and some is piling up on shore with the wind. We will have an opener this year! Next week will be wild, putting docks in fast and giving the cabins their final touches. But we will be open. We do have a few cabins available if you want to make a last minute trip to the celebrated Cutfoot and Winnie Opener. Bryan

The ice is retreating!

The ice on Cutfoot Sioux is retreating. We have about 30 yards of open water in front of the resort…50 yards in front of the summer homes. The narrows is wide open and Little Cutfoot could go any day. We will have an opener this year!! The picture shows the last patch of roof snow at the resort. It should be gone today. Only plow piles left on the ground. A little rain and warm weather has things moving quickly. Bryan

We lucked out and didn’t get any of that big snowstorm that ripped through central Minnesota…whew! Temps are climbing, the sun’s out, and the shoreline is changing. I think we’re going to make it to opener! Bryan

Choir and Bell Concert April 13

Our church choir and bell choir have been working hard on music for a concert on April 13th at 3:00 at Zion Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids. The music programs at Bethany in Deer River and Zion and St Andrews in Grand Rapids are combining forces to perform a concert benefitting Voyageurs Lutheran Ministries. VLM operates Camp Hiawatha on Deer Lake and Camp Vermilion on Lake Vermilion. Each church group will perform individually, and some massed choir and bell music will fill out the program. An offering will be taken during the concert…no tickets required. We’d love to have a nice crowd to perform for…hope to see you there! It will be a beautiful hour of music. Bryan
