The Eagles needed a big late effort against the Bears on Sunday night to move to 6-4, but got just that with a late drive from Donovan McNabb as the team topped Chicago 24-20. The Bears were up 20-17 when Antonio Dixon blocked a 48-yard field goal by Robbie Gould with 11 minutes left.

That block opened the door for the Eagles offense, as McNabb led the team on a 62-yard touchdown drive that LeSean McCoy capped with a nice 10-yard run, sending Chicago to its fifth loss in six games and delivering another big hit to its playoff hopes.

The Eagles built a 10-0 lead in the first quarter on a David Akers 25-yard field goal then a McNabb 13-yard pass to Jason Avant with 2:48 left in the first quarter. The Bears clawed their way back though, as they scored three times in the second quarter, but all three were field goals, but it made it 10-9 at the half.

The Bears got another Robbie Gould field goal in the third quarter to take a 12-10 lead, but then the Eagles were able to score quickly as after a 16-yard pas to Jeremy Maclin, McNabb found DeSean Jackson for a 48-yard score down the middle of the field to make it 17-12.

Jay Cutler, who was held in check all night, came right back though, going six plays and 55 yards as Cutler found Kellen Davis with a 15-yard score. They also got the two-point conversion to make it a 20-17 Bears lead. Then the tied turned after the blocked field goal and then the long drive that ended with the McCoy 10-yard score.

The defense sealed the win as the Bears got the ball back at their own 21 with 1:51 left, but six plays into the drive Sean Jones picked him off, ending the final Bears threat. McNabb was 23-for-32 for 244 yards with two scores and a pick. McCoy ran for 99 yards on 20 carries with the game-winning score.

As if the Philadelphia Eagles have enough trouble remaining relevant in the NFC East and keeping their core players healthy, their running back corps took a major hit when it was learned that head coach Andy Reid has said that Brian Westbrook, based on a statement issued by concussion specialists in Pittsburgh on Wednesday, will miss the team’s next three games.

With Westbrook out of action for an extended period of time, look for LeSean McCoy to get the bulk of the carries for the foreseeable future, with Eldra Buckley backing him up.

Seems that QB Donovan McNabb’s rib isn’t going to be 100 percent for some time, and because of it, Fox Sports reports that the QB will wear a flak jacket for protection for the rest of the season.

The rib that quarterback Donovan McNabb fractured in Week 1 still hasn’t completely healed, but it isn’t giving him any problems. “I don’t feel it much during games. Maybe (when I’m) sleeping a little bit or after games.” Andy Reid said McNabb will wear a flak jacket to protect the rib for the rest of the season.

That of course means the pressure will be on the O-line, as it will be up to them to protect their leader and keep him on his feet.

The Eagles looked to come out Sunday and lay a haymaker on their NFC East rivals, the New York Giants in their big showdown on Sunday. Instead, they laid two big blows in the first four minutes, this enroute to a convincing 40-17 victory. They did it without lead RB Brian Westbrook, out with a concussion, but didn’t need him, as Leonard Weaver and rookie tailback LeSean McCoy did a great job putting up 180 yards rushing vs the big bad G-Men.

Weaver the the Eagles going fast, as he broke loose for a 41-yard score that quickly gave the Eagles a 7-0 lead. Then on the second play of the 4th quarter McCoy finished off the Giants with a 66-yard score that wrapped up any possible thoughts of a Giants comeback. Not that they had done much vs the Eagles D all day anyway.

Giants quarterback Eli Manning was under pressure all day, and was inaccurate with a number of throws, and threw a pair of interceptions that led to Eagles touchdowns. “I think we did send a statement,” defensive end Trent Cole. “Now we want to keep building upon that statement.”

Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb played great as well, going 17 of 23 for 240 yards and three touchdowns. He made sure to not make silly mistakes, and was on with all but six of his passes on the day. “Don, he was out there flying around, throwing the ball and all pumped up,” wide receiver DeSean Jackson said. “That was a great situation to see him like that. It felt like he was back in his young days. As long as he keeps playing like that, he’s unstoppable.”

The Eagles made sure not to even allow the Giants to get their heads in the game, as they went up big at 30-7 at the half, and never looked back even through the Giants scored 10 second half points. It was a pretty big whitewashing to say the least. “When you play these NFC East teams, you prepare for a heavyweight fight,” Eagles coach Andy Reid said. Count this one as a pretty big knockout for the Birds.
