Is Meta Data Still Important for SEO?

Way back in the day, the meta data that you included in the code of your website played a large part in your search ranking. The search engine spiders used this information to determine what your website was about and ranked your site accordingly. Of course, this meant that webmasters began taking advantage of the meta data by stuffing keywords and in some cases, included keywords that weren’t even relevant but had a high search volume just to try and increase their visitors. The search engines smartened up and the meta data carries a lot less weight (and in some cases carries no weight) to determine ranking. So does that mean that it’s OK to just ignore the meta data? No. It’s still SEO best practice to implement it. Here’s why:

Title Tag
The title tag appears at the top of the browser window when looking at a page and is also the clickable link on a search engine results page. It’s indexed by the search engines and is the first thing that a spider sees. It qualifies the visitor. The title tag is what persuades them to click on the page so it must grab their attention and include relevant keywords so that they know that your website will have the content that they are looking for.

Description Tag
Google doesn’t use the description meta tag in ranking. That doesn’t mean that it’s not important. Both Google and Bing encourage webmasters to write concise descriptions since they are used as the snippet that a user will see on a search engine results page under the title. Sometimes a person browsing the web wants a little more information that what the title provides. The meta description allows for 150 characters of unique content per page that describes what is on that page.

Keyword Tag
Even if the keywords meta tag isn’t used as a ranking factor with the search engines, it’s still a way to keep track of the keywords that you are targeting on each page for your own records. It serves as a reference when creating a link building campaign so you know what the anchor text links pointing to the page should be. It certainly won’t hurt your site to include 2-5 relevant keywords in the keywords meta tag on each page.

Meta tags certainly won’t make or break an SEO campaign, but it fits in with everything else. Along with good high quality content, clean code, and a good URL structure, it’s SEO best practice to include meta tags.

Who are the Top 25 Network Marketing Companies? Well, it really depends on how you define "The Top 25..." As you might imagine, the truth can be a bit subjective. For example...

The best-selling car in the World is the Toyota Corolla. Apparently it's a great car, and yet at the same time is probably not the car of your dreams. Which begs the question, "Does an MLM company deserve a higher ranking simply because more people are involved?" It's a fair question. Here's what we know for sure: Popularity is definitely one of the best ways to determine what's going on in the marketplace. It plays a part in the movies we see, the music we download, and sometimes even where we invest our money.

So is "The Top 25..." just an online popularity contest? Not exactly. To make a fair assessment we gave consideration to things that really don't matter; for instance, 24 of the 25 companies are members of the DSA. And to things that really do matter; like Time In Business!

In short, we wanted you to know the exact criteria we used in order to select, and then to rank, "The Top 25..." You may agree with our findings, or you may not; we welcome your thoughts and opinions either way. Here's the Nexera Five-Factor Formula we used to make our selections:

Why would I say that? I recently read a sale copy from Tim Sales and what he says is absolutely right. With the advance of internet and social media, everyone thinks it is easy to make money online and a lot of network marketers think internet is the solution for their failing businesses. This is a wrong mentality. Let’s look at how internet affects MLM.

The Raise of Internet/Technology Related Companies

Internet/Technology related MLM companies are coming out fast and furious. Their products range from broadband, search engine services, bargain shopping tools, auction, reward programs, video emails, webinar platforms and many many more. Some of these are great idea and I am sure over the next 10-20 years, you will see one or two of these companies go on to be a big billion dollar company. However, 99.9% of them will fail and slowly disappear after 2-3 years. I have seen it, done it and I know. So is this really the kind of companies you want to get involved in?

The Raise of Attraction Marketing System

Many marketing systems claim to be the solution for struggling network marketers. Do they really work? Yes to a certain extent, but there is a limit on how much you can depend on it. It is NOT the solution for your struggling MLM. It is a tool which might help, but it is not the answer. I know. Why? Because I was involved in one of them and I became one of the top marketers in that system. I made good amount affiliate commission and it does help me a little bit with my MLM business. I don’t believe it will help me build a team of tens or hundreds of thousands of members because these systems are simply too complicated and focus a lot on personal sales rather than duplication.

Can You Just Use Internet To Build Your MLM?

The answer is no. Tim Sales says the more time you spend in front of the computer, the less likely you will succeed in MLM and I agree with that. MLM is a human relationship business. You got to be out there talking to people, making friends, closing sales, doing training and socialising rather than staying in front of your computer. Internet is a tool. It is not the solution.

In my view, there are 3 main processes in building a MLM business.

1. Getting leads/prospect
2. Follow up and closing
3. Training

There is no doubt you can get leads using the internet and I highly recommend that. Follow up and closing is best done on the phone, face to face or at meeting. Training can also be done online through webinars, but nothing beats face to face training. The face to face or human relationship element can not be ignored in MLM and it is the most important part.

So stop thinking internet is all you need to build a MLM business. Don’t think you can make a million hiding behind a computer. You need to recognise that the internet is just a tool. You have to go out there networking, sharing, training and socialising.

Internet won’t kill MLM, as it is a fantastic business model which has been around for decades, but Internet will kill YOUR MLM business is you depend solely on it.
