Just follow these tips and tricks to get thousands visitors for your blog.<br /><br /><strong>Getting Flickr Traffic</strong><br /><strong></strong><br />The great thing about uploading Flickr Images is that in the description for each you can include links to your website. These are actually no-follow so they won’t help much in the search engines, but they do send traffic.<br /><br />However, for any link junkies out there, links to your site from the sets and collections pages are dofollow and you can use any anchor text that you like. I’m not sure how long that ‘hole’ will stay open now that I have mentioned it here.<br /><br /><strong>Choosing the Right Images</strong><br />One thing you should know is that 99% of the traffic to my Flickr images comes from the Yahoo search engine and the Flickr search engine. Funnily I get single figure visitors daily from Google Images (apart from to my site) but Yahoo really sends a ton of traffic to your Flickr page, unsurprisingly as they own the site.<br /><br />On this note, that means that you need to upload pictures that people actually want to find; some tips I have on doing this include:<br /><br /><strong>Upload Pictures that Already Get Traffic</strong> - Do you have images on your site that already get a lot of visits? If so, upload optimised alternatives onto Flickr and see if you can boost traffic to your site that way.<br /><br /><strong>Upload Wanted Images -</strong> It’s not hard to think of images people might look for on a daily basis but of course you should try to think of relevant ones as well. Pictures of celebrities, sporting events and famous landmarks will always be a hit when it comes to traffic.<br /><br /><strong>Look at Popular Groups -</strong> If you look at the popular groups on Flickr, you can start to tell which photos people are interested in, and this generally means they want to see more of them. For example if there is a popular group about Beyonce Knowles, and you own a celebrity blog, then it might be wise to upload some pictures of her (that you have permission to use, of course).<br />At the end of the day, it is still important that you upload relevant images to your account. There’s no use getting lots of celebrity traffic if you run a hotel that is situated near a theme park. In that example, it would be much better to have images of the theme park or surrounding interests in the same area.<br /><br /><strong>Optimising Your Images</strong><br /><strong></strong><br />Now that you have your pictures up on Flickr, you need to optimise them. If I’m totally honest, I have optimised my images to the point of ridiculousness (I know that’s not a word) and you really don’t have to go this far. Why did I? Simply because I test every single thing possible to work out what is best, and because it is on Flickr’s site, I don’t think there is something like over-optimisation.<br /><br />There are several ways you can optimise your images on Flickr:<br /><strong></strong><br /><strong>Image Titles -</strong> This is probably the most obvious and definitely the most effective tactic to get more image traffic. The title of the image should be relevant to what the image is and not something like 00002.jpg or whatever it was when you uploaded it. If you are uploading multiple images that are around the same subject, add a number or extension word to the title i.e. Beyonce Knowles, Beyonce Knowles Smiling, Beyonce Knowles 2 or similar.<br /><br /><strong>Tags -</strong> For each of your images you are also allowed to put tags that describe them. Here I honestly go overboard and include a large number of tags in that describe my images. What I also do is add misspellings that people might use and this is especially handy for getting traffic directly from the search function in Flickr.<br /><br /><strong>Sets -</strong> Flickr allows you to create sets that group together all of your images. So for example, staying with the celebrity theme, you could have a ’set’ that shows all your photos of Beyonce, a set that shows all your photos of Madonna and so on. Of course, the celebrity theme is just an example but you should know how you can separate your own photos into different sets based on relevance. Again, the title of the set should be optimised so that it is relevant to what the images it contains are about.<br /><br /><strong>Collections -</strong> This is why I say I went a bit overboard on the optimisation, and that is because I took advantage of collections as well. If sets are a group of like images then you should see collections as a group of like sets. Your collection could be about ‘celebrities’ and include the sets Beyonce and Madonna. Another collection could be about ‘theme parks’ and show Six Flags in America and Alton Towers in the UK.<br />The reason I make use of all these is that you get a lot of internal links to your images from the same site. One of the reasons Twitter profiles rank highly in Google is because they have a lot of internal links from other profiles, and this method with Flickr is no different. Some of my sets pages have amassed a PR 3 and 4 with nothing but internal links from tags and other areas of the site.<br /><br /><strong>Linking to Your Site</strong><br />As I briefly mentioned earlier, the links from a Flickr photo page are nofollow but they do send traffic. If people are searching for pictures of landmarks from a certain area, and you have a hotel in that place, that visit might result in someone paying to stay with you. That is just an example, but if you use your imagination there are literally thousands of ways that you can get this image traffic to convert how you want them to.<br /><br /><strong>Images -</strong> When you upload images you are asked if you want to give them a description. This is where you place the HTML code for your link. Your text should be inviting so for example you might say ‘for more pictures of X go to myurl.com’ or ‘Like this picture? Find out more about this area at myurl.com’. Of course you can test this to see what works best for you.<br /><br /><strong>Sets -</strong> Your sets page contains all the images that you want to put in a certain group. Sets do get indexed by search engines and they also do not have the no-follow tag on their links, so you can get a relevant backlink from a very trusted domain.<br /><br /><strong>Collections -</strong> Just like sets, collections allow you to name them uniquely and their descriptions also do not have the no-follow tag on links. Collections, as stated, allow you to group all your sets together and these pages can also acquire some decent pagerank if you organise all your internal linking effectively.<br /><br />The more images you upload, the more chances you have of getting people to your Flickr pages and the more chance you have of getting them to your site. Of course, it’s better to be able to upload images that get a lot of searches, rather than lots that don’t get any.<br />I use this method with a few sites, uploading relevant niche images and pointing the description back to my site. A good way to get around getting links by trading is doing a 3-way link trade, a 3-way link trade is when you trade a link from your website or blog to someone else’s. Then you will give the other person a link on a different website this is a effective 3-way link trade and is helpful and not harmful for you inside of the search engines. </p> <p>Another form of link generation is to use an automatic blog finding software to help you find the best links that you could gain for your blog. I have recently use “Fast Blog Finder” which finds “Do-Follow” links for you which are something that help to pass PR to your website. I even found a rare gem inside of this as I have found a DO FOLLOW PR-7 link with the use of it. This PR-7 link is something that would of cost me $50-$100s of dollars a month and I was very glad to use this software and find these valuable links for free. If you are commenting in another way I would suggest that you try out the Fast Blog Finder as it is a great tool. If you want to lure the right visitors into your website then simply use the right words. Although search engines do not read they do scan the site’s text. The more relevant your content is the higher your chances of a better ranking.</p> <p>Another important consideration, while on the topic of content, is keywords. Your keywords are words or phrases which summarize or represent the main topic or subject of your site, when a search engine scans the body of your website’s text it picks up these repeating words and match them with the words being searched if they match then you get a high ranking.</p> <p>When selecting your keywords make sure you choose words which are most likely to be used by users searching for a site like yours or subjects covered by your site. After you have selected them sprinkle them abundantly within the text of your site. However be careful that you don’t unnecessarily stuff them at inappropriate junctures cause that might attract criticism or even a penalty. Your keyword density per page can be anywhere between 5-15%, depending on of course how skillfully you might choose to repeat them. Today, a top Search Engine will index hundreds of millions of pages, and respond to tens of millions of queries per day.</p> <p>Before a Search Engine can tell you where a file or document is, it must be found. To find information on the hundreds of millions of Web pages that exist, a Search Engine employs special software robots, called spiders, to build lists of the words found on Web sites.</p> <p>When a spider is building its lists, the process is called web crawling.</p> <p>In order to build and maintain a useful list of words, a Search Engine’s spiders have to look at a lot of pages. How does any spider start its travels over the Web? The usual starting points are lists of heavily used servers and very popular pages. In other words, there would be no way of building the ranking list that tries to present the most useful pages at the top of the list of search results.</p> <p>To make for more useful results, most Search Engines store more than just the word and URL. The engine might assign a weight to each entry, with increasing values assigned to words as they appear near the top of the document, in sub-headings, in links, in the META tags or in the title of the page. My name is Udi Manber, and I am a VP of engineering at Google in charge of Search Quality. I have been at Google for over two years, and I have been working on search technologies for almost 20 years.</p> <p>The heart of the group is the team that works on core ranking. Ranking is hard, much harder than most people realize. One reason for this is that languages are inherently ambiguous, and documents do not follow any set of rules. There are really no standards for how to convey information, so we need to be able to understand all web pages, written by anyone, for any reason. And that’s just half of the problem. We also need to understand the queries people pose, which are on average fewer than three words, and map them to our understanding of all documents. Not to mention that different people have different needs. And we have to do all of that in a few milliseconds.</p> <p>The most famous part of our ranking algorithm is PageRank, an algorithm developed by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, who founded Google. PageRank is still in use today, but it is now a part of a much larger system. Other parts include language models (the ability to handle phrases, synonyms, diacritics, spelling mistakes, and so on), query models (it’s not just the language, it’s how people use it today), time models (some queries are best answered with a 30-minutes old page, and some are better answered with a page that stood the test of time), and personalized models (not all people want the same thing).</p> <p>Another team in our group is responsible for evaluating how well we’re doing. This is done in many different ways, but the goal is always the same: improve the user experience. This is not the main goal, it is the only goal. There are automated evaluations every minute (to make sure nothing goes wrong), periodic evaluations of our overall quality, and, most importantly, evaluations of specific algorithmic improvements. When an engineer gets a new idea and develops a new algorithm, we test their ideas thoroughly. We have a team of statisticians who look at all the data and determine the value of the new idea. We meet weekly (sometimes twice a week) to go over those new ideas and approve new launches. In 2007, we launched more than 450 new improvements, about 9 per week on the average. Some of these improvements are simple and obvious — for example, we fixed the way Hebrew acronym queries are handled (in Hebrew an acronym is denoted by a (”) next to the last character, so IBM will be IB”M), and some are very complicated — for example, we made significant changes to the PageRank algorithm in January. Most of the time we look for improvements in relevancy, but we also work on projects where the sole purpose is to simplify the algorithms. Simple is good.</p> <p>International search has been one of our key focus areas in the past two years. This means all spoken languages, not just the major ones. Last year, for example, we made major improvements in Azerbaijani, a language spoken by about 8 million people. In the past few months, we launched spell checking in Estonian, Catalan, Serbian, Serbo-Croatian, Ukranian, Bosnian, Latvian, Filipino Tagalog, Slovenian and Farsi. We organized a network of people all over the world who provide us with feedback, and we have a large set of volunteers from all parts of Google who speak different languages and help us improve search.</p> <p>Another team is dedicated to new features and new user interfaces. Having a great engine is necessary for a great car, but it is not sufficient. The car has to be comfortable and easy to drive. The Google search user interface is quite simple. Very few of our users ever read our help pages, and they can do very well without them (but they’re good reading nevertheless, and we’re working to improve them). When we add new features we try to ensure that they will be intuitive and easy to use for everyone. One of the most visible changes we made in the past year was Universal Search. Others include the Google Notebook, Custom Search Engines, and of course, many improvements to iGoogle. The UI team is helped by a team of usability experts who conduct user studies and evaluate new features. They travel all over the world, and they even go to people’s homes to see users in their natural habitat. (Don’t worry, they do not come unannounced or uninvited!)</p> <p>There is a whole team that concentrates on fighting webspam and other types of abuse. That team works on variety of issues from hidden text to off-topic pages stuffed with gibberish keywords, plus many other schemes that people use in an attempt to rank higher in our search results. The team spots new spam trends and works to counter those trends in scalable ways; like all other teams, they do it internationally. The webspam group works closely with the Google Webmaster Central team, so they can share insights with everyone and also listen to site owners.</p> <p>There are other teams devoted to particular projects. In general, our organizational structure is quite informal. People move around, and new projects start all the time.</p> <p>One of the key things about search is that users’ expectations grow rapidly. Tomorrow’s queries will be much harder than today’s queries. Just as Moore’s law governs the doubling of computing speed every 18 months, there is a hidden unwritten law that doubles the complexity of our most difficult queries in a short time. This is impossible to measure precisely, but we all feel it. We know we cannot rest on our laurels, we have to work hard to meet the challenge. (You just have to<br />wait for keyword-approval by the pay-per-click administrators).<br /><br />Choose profitable keywords (high demand, low supply), identified<br />when you began creating new content.
