Refreshed Vacation Skin

Got back from vacation this past Sunday, we went to Maine for 9 days. I am so rested and renewed, it was awesome for my skin.

I am in need of a facial though, so I'm planning to do a home spa session next week. I'm busy working all this week including the weekend. Basically I do the same thing as a regular spa: facial, mani-pedi, massage (husband), hair wash & scalp treatment, etc. I use natural stuff; mint soaks, oatmeal facial scrub, hot olive oil scalp treatment, cucumbers for eye skin, scrubby gloves for the body followed by either mint or orange lotion I made using essential oil & shea butter. I'm looking forward to this!

Cowrie Shell Earrings

I made a batch of cowrie shell earrings. I used two different sizes of shells. The first photo is one of the large shell earrings. The second photo is one of the small. I'm working on the packaging and will have them up for sale soon.

Modified Cowrie Shell Silver Cuff Bracelet

I did not make this cuff, only slightly modified it. It is my favorite piece of jewelry! I am going to make some like it to sell; I found a decent silver distributer. I originally got this from a seller or African-themed jewelry at a cultural events conference in 2003. It came w/the cowrie set in but the side beads were black and smaller. Eventually they fell out. I added current brown side beads w/super glue a few years ago.

Trimmed Eyebrows & Big Eyes

I have really big eyes and some days they look bigger than others LOL. I tamed my eyebrows a bit today. They are still uneven; I like to keep my look just a little untamed. It is amazing to me how a slight eyebrow modification can really set my eyes off but still give me an earthy, natural look.

Upcycled Bags w/Plastic Grocery Bag Handles

I'm making some bags out of old fabric samples and plastic grocery bags. I'm using the plastic for the handles and the fabric for the outside of the bag. Here is one almost done, just have to put in liner. The closure is Velcro. As each fabric swatch I got is different, each bag will have 2 different sides, which is total coolness. What kind of material do you think the liner should be? I'm thinking denim.

Thrift Store Sewing Table

My daughter found a sewing machine table at a thrift store for just $10! Here it is all folded in. Enclosed sewing machine is electric, old school.

It's totally cool because we both sew and make stuff; I make reconstructed clothes and my daughter goes to college for fashion design. She makes clothes from scratch and purses, all sorts of things. She just happened to be there when they set it out; and it needed only a little tweaking to run ok.

My Style In a Nutshell

Long dresses or skirts, the longer the better. I make a lot of my skirts. If I wear pants I like baggy pants with a drawstring waist usually. Tops with no sleeves, especially in the summer, or t-shirts or tank tops. In the winter, sweaters. I'm not into jeans much, because with my body shape it's hard to find any that fit well. I have this one pair I love though and wear frequently. I like silver jewelry and cowrie shell jewelry. oh yeah I prefer solid colors to my clothes. Flat shoes, sandals, or tennis shoes, and since I live in Tundraland (Northeast Ohio) it goes without saying that in winter I wear thick boots.

New Heels April 2007

I rarely wear heels because I like to be comfortable in my clothes and shoes. But these are just so darn comfy! I love them and wear them often.

Outfit:
pink bandanna, my favorite one
black tee I got at at a skating/bmx bike event, it says 'I roc the mic' on the white panel
blue zip-up sweater cause it was kind of chilly today
blue jean skirt I made in 2005, still going strong
white cotton socks
and my new comfy heels! (scored at Unique Thrift store on W.25th for you Clevelanders)

Yes, it is the first day of spring! Still kinda cold here though, hence my purple corduroy dress. I'll probably be able to wear it till the end of March, I love it so much! It's so warm and the color is fantastic. I can wear it with a light top so I'm not too hot indoors, it's awesome. Red today for the power of S*P*R*I*N*G

red shirt - such a powerful color. got at Unique Thrift Store in Cleveland,OH on W.25th
purple dress - got at Goodwill in Avon,OH
black boots - reused from my daughter, got a hole in them & she was going to throw them out. Fixed hole w/duct tape, kept water out all winter long!

Gray top reconstructed from thrifted dress (I cut off the bottom)
Black sleeveless top, wearing it vest style
Dark blue skirt, one of my faves
Pink yoga pants underneath 4 warmth
White tube socks
Heavy steel toe boots from factory & UPS work years ago w/bright blue laces. Great for crunching through the snow :)
No outside jewelry, makeup dark red lipstick & dark blue eyebrow pencil

Holiday Projects 2007

Right now I'm mainly working on the quilts for my kids. I make them each a quilt every year. I'm also working on some scarves for family members, aprons, and a big quilt for my folks. Some small bags for friends and other family members. I'm gonna put on my thinking cap and get creative.

Trula's Organized Bathroom November 2007

I organized the upstairs bathroom. Do you know we had over 300 books in there??? We all love to read, me especially, but it was ridiculous. I sent some of the books my kids don't read anymore with my husband for his class (he's a teacher) boxed up some for my bookstore, and organized the rest downstairs. Now there are only 15ish books in the upstairs bathroom...ok maybe more like double that, I forgot the rest in the lower cabinet, LOL.

This used to be a computer desk for my upstairs office. I'm turning that area into my sewing area soon. Old computer is now in our bedroom.

Yes I love big plants! :)
