Cooper Union Presentation

I completed a six week engineering program at The Cooper Union Albert Nerkin School of Engineering. I worked on building and programming a lighter than air drone prototype in the makerspace class. I learned CAD, electrical wiring and circuitry, and Arduino programming. I blogged about it more at easonkamander.com.

First Black Belt Test

I got my black belt from 914 Krav Maga, Martial Arts, Kickboxing & Ju-Jitsu. The black belt test, which lasted five days, was very difficult, but it paid off. Each day we would push through a really challenging warm up, some techniques like kicks or throws, and sparring. For me, the hardest part was definitely the warm-ups, especially the jumps and crawls. My favorite part was the sparring. I started training ten years ago, and I am so excited to start learning the new material as a black belt. I am so happy to have a dojo like this one.

We had our Middle School Spring Orchestra Concert. After the 6th graders finished, we performed with the 8th graders. We performed some really good songs:

• Fantasia on an Original Theme by Joseph J. Phillips
• Themes from the Moldau by Bedrich Smetana/arranged by Robert S. Frost
• Concerto No. 5 (1st Movement) by F. Seitz
• Overture (from the "Barber of Seville") by Rossini/arranged by Harry Alshin

Secrets of the JavaScript Ninja

For my Fall Outside Reading project, I decided to read Secrets of the JavaScript Ninja by Bear Bibeault and John Resig and write code based on some of the functions described in the book. I had a lot of fun completing this project, but I almost bit off more than I could chew and had to scramble to finish. When I presented my project a lot of my friends didn't understand what I was talking about, but my teacher thought I did a good job.
