Both of these great charities support the east coast community.
Daytrippers help send youngsters on field trips and educational outings
that they otherwise cannot afford. Frontier College is a literacy
organization that supports youth and adult literacy programs to help
people learn for a better life.

The East Coast Charity Ball
allows for Atlantic Canadians and their friends to kick back, have a few
drinks and dance the night away! We hope you will join us.

Register Now

ECC January 2013 President's Message

As
I wrap up my first calendar year as the volunteer President of East Coast
Connected, there is much to be thankful for! ... The past 18 months have just
wizzed by!

As
is the case with any volunteer organization --- nothing happens without
significant effort from people behind the scenes! I wanted to take a few
moments to recognize a few of those key contributors.

I
want to thank Jason Stone for his tireless efforts in promoting ECC. Jason has
been part of the Board almost the same length of time (18 months) that I have
been President. He was instrumental in recruiting friends to attend Good Cheer
events and was a key part of helping ECC clean up and organize its finances.
Jason’s career has continued to grow and I look forward to watching him climb
the corporate ladder as part of the next generation of East Coast leaders in
Toronto.

Katie
Clark has been my friend for 20+ years and she provided marvelous counsel to me
on everything public relations over the past year. Katie’s tenure on the Board
was short --- but impactful!

Denise
Allen will go down in East Coast Connected lore as the first person to organize
a sold out East Coast Connected event ... The Coast & Cocktails event
featuring Hockey Canada COO, Scott Smith was her brainchild and was a wonderful
night. ECC was lucky to have her skills for a brief time while she was in
between Executive roles.

Jay
Dingwall, Jeff Muzzerall and Erin O’Toole have been part of ECC with me since
the early days --- and Chris Crowell’s original idea ... The contributions that
they gave to ECC over the past five years are too immeasurable to count. Though
if your company needs marketing help --- please reach out to Jay’s company, Famous
Folks, and Erin recently joined Stephen Harper’s caucus in Ottawa as the MP for
Durham. I wanted to remind all those that attended the first Atlantic Business
Summit at the University of Toronto and that Jeff’s fingerprints were on almost
every successful ECC event in our history.

As
with any organization, we always need new leaders that want to step in ...
Anyone that is interested in rolling up their sleeves and delivering meaningful
contributions to ECC’s efforts, please contact me directly. Going into 2013, we
have some big shoes to fill.

ECC
Good Cheer ...

Our
next Good Cheer event is slated for Saturday, January 26th at the
John Labatt Room ... It will be supporting a TBD charity in Prince Edward
Island. J. Tickets
can be purchased by going to the following link - http://guestlistapp.com/events/138603

*** Anyone who buys a ticket prior to
Friday, January 4th ... will receive a free drink (bought, poured
and delivered to your hand by me on January 26th) ***

10th
Annual East Coast Charity Ball ...

Planning
is well underway for ECC’s annual gala. The Charity Ball in 2013 will be held
at the Berkeley Church on Friday, April 12th. Thanks to Simon
Partington, Event Chair and his volunteer team for all their hard work. If you
are interested in joining Simon’s team --- please contact him directly at simon.partington@richardsongmp.com.

We
have extended the ‘early bird’ pricing of $30 for the Charity Ball for one week
because of so many people that were off over the holidays. Regular price of the
Charity Ball ticket will be $50 ... Any ECC member can buy up to two tickets at
the price of $30 ... (prior to Sunday night – midnight EST – on January 6th)

Corporate
Partner Offer ...

We
welcome our newest Corporate Partner in 2013 --- Starwood Hotels. Any ECC
member can book either the Sheraton on Queen St or the Westin on Queens Quay at
a discounted rate. More details to follow soon.

ECC's existing Corporate partners
include Innovacorp, the Insurance Bureau of Canada, Heenan Blaikie, NovaScotian
Crystal, Stanfield’s and Alexander Keith's.

ECC December 2012 President's Message

ECC
Members,

What
a November !!!

For
those of you that missed it, we held both an ECC Good Cheer Event and an ECC
Coast & Cocktails speakers series. In addition, November represented the
largest month of ECC membership since we converted the organization to a paid
membership in August 2011.

ECC
Coast & Cocktails ...

Our
Coast & Cocktails speakers series on Thursday, November 8th featured two
prominent entrepreneurs from Atlantic Canada, Brandon Kolybaba, CEO of Sheepdog
Inc. and Travis McDonough, CEO of Leader Interactive. Greg Campbell, CEO of
Humberview Partners stated bluntly “that was the best ECC event I have ever
been to”. I received over 20 positive emails the next day ... including notes from
Chris Keevil, CEO of Colour and Bill Adams, SVP of the Insurance Bureau of
Canada.

Patrick
Keefe --- who recently became the Investment Manager for the $50m Venture
Capital fund developed for early venture companies in Nova Scotia and New
Brunswick --- moderated the event. I also announced at the end of the event
that we will be featuring a Coast & Cocktails event early in 2013 with
Patrick as the speaker. Stay tuned for more details. Since this was the second
consecutive sell-out of our Speaker Series, I expect similar demand to hear
Patrick speak. Our presenting partner was once again the law offices of Heenan
Blaikie, Innovacorp funded our VIP guest attendees and NovaScotian Crystal
provided the ‘thank you’ gifts for our speakers.

ECC
Good Cheer ...

Our
last fundraiser of 2012 was a blast! It was without a doubt the best collection
of silent auction prizes we have gathered for an event and we had our first
East Coast celebrity attendee at a Good Cheer event with Great Big Sea bass
player Murray Foster throw down a few sociables!

Not
to get lost was the fact that the event raised $5,000 for the Ward 5
Neighbourhood Centre in the North End of Halifax. www.ward5.org ... Ward 5 is a
non-profit organization that has been providing community programs for over 30
years. In an average year, the Centre prepares and serves more than 18,000 hot
meals to children and seniors. A sample of our of silent auction partners
included Strellson men’s clothing, the Saint John Sea Dogs, the Royal Canadian
Navy East Coast Command, Saltscapes, the Westin NovaScotian, the Halifax
Marriott, Salty’s restaurant, the Delta Fredricton, Cape Breton Resorts and
NovaScotian Crystal.

Our
next Good Cheer event is slated for Saturday, January 26th at the John Labatt
Room ... It will be supporting a TBD charity in Prince Edward Island. It will
also serve as a Birthday party celebration for long-time ECC member and always
volunteer, Robyn MacArthur ... Tickets can be purchased by going to the
following link - http://guestlistapp.com/events/138603

10th
Annual East Coast Charity Ball ...

Planning
is well underway for ECC’s annual gala. *** Save the date *** The Charity Ball
in 2013 will be held at the Berkeley Church on Friday, April 5th. Thanks to
Simon Partington, Event Chair and his volunteer team for all their hard work.
Early Bird pricing will be available for ECC members shortly. If you are
interested in joining Simon’s team --- please contact him directly at simon.partington@richardsongmp.com.

Again
this year, Daytripper’s Children Charity will be a recipient of the proceeds
from the East Coast Charity Ball. This will be the 10th year of the partnership
--- one in which I have been proud to do a small part in their growth.
Daytripper’s founder, Mike Comisarow is looking for a volunteer co-Chair in
Fundraising. I have attached the profile of the role. Having served on the
Daytripper’s Board for over five years, I can tell you that both its founder
and the organization are amazing. If interested, I would be happy to share you
my thoughts or you can follow the directions embedded in the document.

ECC
membership Renewal – 2013 ...

November
was an amazing month – despite ECC's annual membership increasing to $30/year,
it was ECC’s largest membership month. Over 75% of our ECC membership renewed
their membership. Our target was 80%, so I am hoping that this note will spark
a few of you to do so. Note that the early bird pricing for the Charity Ball
will only be made available to those ECC members in good standing going into
2013.

Membership
can be renewed by going to our website – www.eastcoastconnected.ca/membership. Logistics of
getting the ECC shirts to members is proving to be a cost prohibitive means. We
will be keeping track and manually getting your shirt to you when you attend an
ECC event in 2013. Thanks for your patience.

ECC November 2012 President's Message

Happy
Halloween ... Hope that those ECC members with kids had a great time last
night!

Next
week, on November 7th – East Coast Connected will turn 5 years old.
ECC has many people to thank over the years, but I hope that ECC founder Chris
Crowell takes a moment to smile to see what his original idea and all the
effort he put into ECC has evolved into. Some of you may have already seen
this, though attached is a summary of what ECC has done, what ECC started as
... and where ECC is going in 2013!

ECC
membership Renewal – 2013 ...

As
of today - November 1st, 2012 - ECC's annual membership will increase to
$30/year. One criterion by which ECC will measure the value it delivers to its
membership is our membership renewal percentage. Thank you to the 150+ ECC
members that renewed their membership in October.

Membership
can be renewed by going to our website – www.eastcoastconnected.ca/membership

ECC's
next Coast & Cocktails speaker series ...

Thursday,
November 8th will mark the next date in ECC's business speaker series. We will
be featuring two prominent entrepreneurs from Atlantic Canada, Brandon
Kolybaba, CEO of Sheepdog Inc. and Travis McDonough, CEO of Leader Interactive.
If you don’t yet know their names --- you will soon. The event will be made
possible by our speaker series partner Heenan Blaikie and the sponsor of the
event, Innovacorp. We are currently sold out --- but I do expect 10-15% of the
attendees will have to cancel prior to next Thursday, so if you want to add
your name to a waiting list – email me directly.

November’s
ECC Good Cheer Event ...

Nova
Scotia is up next as the province to benefit from the last Good Cheer event of
2012 on Saturday, November 17th. To buy tickets, go to http://guestlistapp.com/events/124941. We will be raising money for the Ward 5 community centre in the north
end of Halifax. You can learn more about Ward 5 by going to their website - www.ward5.org. We are still collecting silent auction
prizes if anyone has ideas.

To
simplify pricing for the Good Cheer events, each ECC member that attends will
receive four drink tickets and pricing for the event is $25 for ECC members and
Guests. To encourage ECC members to buy tickets early, pricing will increase to
$30 one week prior to the event.

On the University Alumni front ...

The Annual Atlantic Canadian
Universities Pub night is on Thursday, November 15th at Grace
O’Malley’s. I have attached the .pdf poster of the event for more information.
ECC will be looking for volunteers that night – so contact me directly if you
are interested. Thanks to Heather, Jessica, Cindy, Robyn, Shawn, Shannon and
Lauren who have already offered to help. Everyone that attends should thank ECC
member and SMU Alumni Meghan Van Gaal for all her hard work putting this event
together. To register for this free event – go to http://guestlistapp.com/events/133194.

Corporate
Partner Offer ...

NovaScotian
Crystal has been a loyal and strong ECC partner for many years. They have an
offer available to those ECC members that request a catalogue in the month of
November. Contact Christine Vaughn – christine@novascotiancrystal.com to request your free catalogue and to learn about their offer.
NovaScotian Crystal is a fabulous gift – made in Atlantic Canada!

ECC's existing Corporate partners
include Innovacorp, the Insurance Bureau of Canada, Heenan Blaikie, NovaScotian
Crystal, Stanfield’s and Alexander Keith's.

An evening of dancing, bad nautical jokes and philanthropy

On July 27th,
members and friends of East Coast Connected, www.eastcoastconnected.ca, held
its first ever boat cruise. Over 140 people boarded the fabulous Stella
Borealis on the shores of Lake Ontario for an evening of dancing, buoys, bad
nautical jokes and of course philanthropy. While it wasn’t the salt water
sailing that many of the attendees were used to, the first ECC boat cruise was
a rousing success.

The “High Seas”
sponsor of the evening was Scotia Bank and with their generous support along
with a 50/50 draw East Coast Connected was proud to announce that we raised
$2,500. Simon Partington, the event Chair and his largely ECC member team
decided that the proceeds would be contributed to Big Brothers Big Sisters in Woodstock,
NB.

“Our First ECC Boat Cruise was a great success as we
were able help Big Brothers and Big Sisters Carleton-York chapter in New
Brunswick. We had a sellout crowd on the boat with just over 140 East Coasters
and Friends. The organizing committee really came together the last week and
managed to make the event what it was. With good food, a great crew on the
Stella Borealis; it was easy to have a few Sociable toasts throughout the
night. With this success we are already looking forward to next year.” (Simon
Partington, Chair ECC Boat Cruise)

Musician Lennan
Delaney got the evening started with set after set of East Coast friendly music
appealing to the highland dancer in all of us. Many of the attendees hailed
from or have roots in beautiful New Brunswick making the evenings cause even
more meaningful. For many involved in planning the event, being able to give
back to New Brunswick was the highlight of the evening.

"The
First Annual ECC Boat Cruise was a great success thanks to the generous support
from our members and partners, particularly Scotiabank. As a native of New
Brunswick, it's wonderful to see so many people come together in support of
such a great cause. There is no better way to enjoy the Toronto skyline all
while supporting a local charity. I'm looking forward to next year
already." (Mitch Gillingwater, ECC Member)

A special thank to all those who helped make the boat cruise a success and here
is to the 2nd Annual East Coast Connected Boat Cruise.

About East Coast
Connected

East Coast Connected (ECC) is a
volunteer organization based in Toronto that brings together people that have a
passion for the Atlantic Canadian provinces. Whether you grew up there, went to
university there or just have a string tie to the region, ECC exists to be the
community for those individuals. ECC runs philanthropic events like the East
Coast Charity Ball and its themed “Good Cheer” events (that are partnered with
Labatt’s), business networking events under its “Coast and Cocktails” brand (that
are partnered with the law offices of Heenan Blaikie) and other ECC members
organized activities. To learn more

ECC October 2012 President's Message

Alexander Keith’s Birthday ...If you are free this upcoming Friday – on October 5th, at the Evergreen Brick Works – join many other ECC
members and Atlantic Canadians at the Alexander Keith’s Toronto birthday festival. Tickets are on sale now
for only $10 at www.keiths.ca/birthday. Don’t delay ... as of yesterday over 70% of the tickets were sold.
The party features Atlantic Canadian musician Matt Mays!

ECC membership Renewal – 2013 ...
Starting today and running until October 31st, ECC will offer an incentive to those ECC members that wish
to renew their membership for 2013. ECC has partnered with Stanfield's - Nova Scotia owned and operated
clothing manufacturer - to provide you a product from the East Coast with your renewal. Women will receive
a black ladies zip neck shirt and men will receive a black performance cotton t-shirt.

If you renew your 2013 membership prior to October 31st, you will also do so at the 2012 price of $25.
As of November 1st, 2012 - ECC's annual membership will increase to $30/year.
Membership can be renewed by going to the following link ...
https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=K4FF9RWHRL9LG
In a subsequent communication, we will get your sizing and the best way to deliver your Stanfield's shirt.

If you purchased your ECC membership after July 1st, 2012 – ECC is extending your membership
automatically and no action is necessary unless you want an ECC branded Stanfield’s shirt. Please contact
me directly if you are interested in purchasing a shirt.

In the last 15 months, ECC has accomplished the following:

A one day business summit focused on Energy issues in Atlantic Canada.

Two Coast & Cocktails speakers series - one featuring NSBI CEO, Stephen Lund and one featuring
Hockey Canada COO, Scott Smith.

Seven philanthropic events --- in which we raised almost $75,000 - of various amounts gifted to all
four provinces. The proceeds were dispersed to Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Nature Conservancy of
Canada - NFLD chapter, the Baddeck Lions Club, Daytrippers Children's Charity, the Hospice
Association of PEI, Frontier College, the IWK Health Centre and the Moncton Headstart program.

A Partner of the Saltscapes Toronto Festival on the waterfront.

September’s ECC Good Cheer Event ...
On Friday, Sept 14th, our presenting partner Labatt’s hosted over 125 attendees in what was our largest
attended ECC Good Cheer event at the John Labatt Room. We raised $2,500 for the Nature Conservancy
of Canada – Newfoundland & Labrador chapter. The money will be used on one of their conservation
projects in Newfoundland. Special thanks to Larry Lewis - www.thelewisartgallery.com – who donated a
beautiful painting, (valued at $2,500), to be raffled off and was the main contribution towards our fundraising
proceeds. Jeff Eager once again provided live music for the event. Thanks to Alexis MacDonald who took

Fundraiser for Newfoundland ...
ECC's third Good Cheer event of the 2012 calendar will be held at the John Labatt Room on Friday night,
September 21st. As an incentive to buy tickets early, the first 40 ECC members that bought tickets prior to
August 31st will receive a six pack beer voucher and an Alexander Keith's beer glass. As always, beer/wine
are 2 for $5 at the event and we will be giving money to a TBD charity in Newfoundland. I have decided that
instead of a silent auction, we will conduct a raffle at this event. There will be a number of prizes available --
- but the grand prize will be this framed picture of Red Head Inlet, near the Bay of Fundy by passionate
ECC member and renowned artist Larry Lewis - http://www.thelewisartgallery.com/ - The framed painting is
valued at $2,500. Larry will be attending the Good Cheer Event. An image of the painting is attached in this
email.

As of this evening, 26 ECC members had purchased tickets and will be receiving beer vouchers ... Thanks
to Larry L, Robyn M, David C, Erin G, Heather M, David D, Renée M, Katie F, James M, Adam D, Chelsea
M, Simon P, Jason S, Jonathan B, Joseph B, Adam M, Scott H, Maxwell M, Jeremy D, Andy C, Lauren L,
Nathan S, Ashley B, Mitch G, Rachel K and Matthew M for ... a) buying their ticket early and b) nudging non
ECC members to buy as well. Almost 50 tickets are sold with over 3 weeks remaining until the event. Note -
there is still time before August 31st for ECC members to buy their ticket and receive the beer voucher. Go
to http://guestlistapp.com/events/109794 to buy tickets.
