A good cheer for a good cause

On Saturday, November 26th - East Coast Connected (ECC) and presenting sponsor Alexander Keith's hosted 125+ people at the John Labatt Room Pub in downtown Toronto. Founded in 2007, East Coast Connected believes that Atlantic Canadians who have moved away are still, at heart, Atlantic Canadians. More than that, we believe that they are still a valuable resource for their home provinces - whether you're talking about investment opportunities or fundraising for your former local charity, this diverse group of people is full of passion and goodwill.

In all, ECC raised $7,500 for the Baddeck Lions Club in Cape Breton, NS. As a critical part of the Baddeck region support structure, they have operated a local island boat for 60 years, providing swimming lessons and a supervised beach program every summer. Every year they also do a party for seniors with gifts, food and song. They have a Christmas wish program that provides 70 needy children with presents and provide 20 needy families with Christmas dinners. They run the local Terry Fox run and buy necessary equipment for some suffering folks in the community. They sponsor kids to go to camp when they don't have resources themselves and have a ramp program for the elderly.

ECC got great support from Jim & Linda Gourlay from Saltscapes, Scott MacAulay from Cape Breton Resorts and Rebecca Evans from Labatt's.

Hills Salah LLP, Wind Mobile, Clearwater Fine Foods, Scallywags, Cape Breton Resorts, Rodds Hotels and Resorts, White Point Beach Resort, Nova Scotia Crystal, Grace O'Malley's, the Irish Embassy, the Fox and Firkin, McSorley's Sports Bar, Bier Bistro, the University of Toronto, Coquine Restaurant, Gabadrine Restaurant and ECC Board Member Sarah Gilroy all supported the Silent Auction.

ECC's existing Corporate partners include Innovacorp, McInnes Cooper, the Insurance Bureau of Canada and Alexander Keith's.

Nova Scotia is 'competing to win' globally: Stephen Lund, NSBI

On Wednesday October 12th, ECC hosted Nova Scotia Business Inc President & CEO Stephen Lund at Heenan Blaikie's offices in Toronto. Mr. Lund addressed 63 ECC members and VIP guests about the how the Province of Nova Scotia is 'competing to win' globally for niche businesses to locate to Nova Scotia and to attract and retain talent in Nova Scotia.

The event was sponsored by Nova Scotia Business Inc and was supported by ECC's corporate partners Innovacorp, Insurance Bureau of Canada, Jump Careers, McInnes Cooper and Alexander Keith's.

Stephen was introduced by Scott McCain from Maple Leaf Foods. Stephen's short presentation on "Nova Scotia - Competing to Win" was followed by an engaging 45 minute Q&A with the attendees. Stephen continued to answer questions at the reception afterwards and the feedback from the event was fantastic.

Jennifer Chaisson from NSBI coordinated a great draw prize for the attendees and long time ECC member Michael Claener was the lucky name pulled from the draw and was the winner of a free flight from Porter Airlines and accommodations in Halifax.

Enjoy the Wooden Sticks experience with University of New Brunswick Alumni & Friends for the Toronto Alumni Chapter's third annual golf tournament at Wooden Sticks Golf and Country Club, Uxbridge (Ontario).

All skill levels, friends and family are welcome. You do not have to be a golfer to enjoy the day. This is a fun event with a best ball (Texas scramble) format. Lots of prizes, lots of fun, but best of all, the good company of our alumni members.

Have your foursome lined up and register early. If you don't have a foursome, we will create one for you.

All registrants will be advised of tee time and will be required to arrive for registration at least 1/2 hour prior so everyone stays on time. The assigned tee times will be from 11:10 a.m. to 12:50 p.m.
