“The Piper” is a Dorian mode piece with the text coming from “Song of Innocence” by William Blake.

Dear Chorus Students,

Welcome to 2010! We have a lot to do in a short time, so get ready for some hard work.

This is the music for our February 4th and February 18th (or 19th) performances. It must be memorized by January 20th. I'll let you know who sings Part I and Part II at rehearsal on Wednesday January 6! Remember, you must have the full uniform including solid black socks and shoes to perform at these events.

We will use the sheet music (octavos) for these songs in rehearsal, but here are the lyrics for home practice and memorization:

“The Piper” is a Dorian mode piece with the text coming from “Song of Innocence” by William Blake. The tempo is dotted quarter note = 80 and 6/8 meter. It is a piece that challenges students to sing independently when three different parts have different rhythms made up mostly of eighth and sixteenth notes. The piece is complete with the addition of the recorder playing introduction, interludes, and sometimes playing a descant to the choir’s singing.

Atlanta Braves have invited us to sing the National Anthem on Sunday, August 29

The Chorus did an outstanding job at the Aquarium and in our Thursday school performances. Plenty more excitement to come!

I just received a letter from the Braves inviting us to sing the National Anthem on Sunday, August 29 at 1:30 PM. Please mark it on your 2010 calendar! Tickets will be available this Spring. Watch the Chorus BLOG for details.

Remember, we have rehearsal the Wednesday after we return from our Winter Break!

Hi Chorus Parents,

Congratulations to your kids on a fun and festive musical! I hope to have Elves’ Impersonator pics on the chorus BLOG soon. If you have good pics for me to post, I'll be happy to do so.

Several kids and parents have asked, "What's Next?" We have a busy schedule coming up, so please have your kids at every rehearsal for the entire time. Thanks!

The Elves' Impersonator

“Santa's Workshop at the North Pole is abuzz with excitement and activity. Christmas is right around the corner! The Elves are busily preparing toys and gifts for children all around the world, but their tasks aren't enough to keep them from gossiping about the new Elf on the block. Poor Elfis is the target of their ridicule and jokes because he looks unusual and acts differently than all of the other Elves. They even accuse him of being an Elf Impersonator! Feeling unloved and downtrodden, Elfis sings the blues and runs away from Santa's Workshop. When Santa, his reindeer and Mrs. Claus learn what has happened, they are outraged. Santa sends the reindeer out to find Elfis and bring him back.

Meanwhile, he and Mrs. Claus remind the rest of the Elves that they should accept others for who they are, no matter what their differences. The Elves are ashamed of themselves, and when the reindeer bring Elfis back (yay!), they apologize and ask him to lead them in a song of celebration. He agrees, naturally, and the whole lot of them sing and dance together in a lively Christmas finale!”

Congratulations to the Eastvalley Eagle Chorus! You performed brilliantly at the Braves game! Keep up the good work. We have been invited to sing at a Kennesaw Men's Basketball game because of our outstanding performance!

We will soon begin our auditions for "The Elves' Impersonator" and begin our Butter Braids fundraiser, so be ready!

Dear Chorus Families,

We were planning to send your Braves tickets home on Tuesday the 22nd, but...

IF kids don't have school on Thursday, you may come by Eastvalley between 8 AM and 3 PM Thursday to pick up your tickets; if you don't pick them up Thursday, we'll send them home on Friday in the "Tuesday Tracker" folder.

Dress for the game: Chorus members must wear the new blue chorus uniform shirt (tucked in) with jeans for the game.

Time: Please remember that the Braves want us fed, watered, bathroomed, and ready to sing by 6 PM on Monday. If you are late, you will not get to sing with us.

Book Fair: Mrs. Ritt will have the bookfair open during chorus rehearsal and shortly thereafter on Monday if you would like to make a purchase or donate to the Clarkdale Elementary School bookfair fund.

Eastvalley Night at the Braves! September 28!

Chorus Parent Information:

• The chorus will rehearse as usual on Monday, September 28 from 2:30-3:30. We want to sound our best for the fans and for International TV!

• TIME & MEETING PLACE: 6:00 PM – Enter the Turner Field Stadium complex and go to the Hank Aaron Drive ramp (near isle 129), Field Level concourse. There may be pre-game festivities meeting there, so ask and look for us.

• TRANSPORTATION: Chorus members are to arrange their own transportation and must be accompanied by a parent or a supervising adult. The adult will be responsible for children at Turner Field. No child shall be dropped off. If you cannot attend, consider letting your child go to the game with one of our other Chorus members and their parent/guardian. Please arrive with plenty of time to use the restroom before 6:00. Please consider downtown traffic delays.

• SUPERVISION: The supervising parent/adult must stay with chorus members while we warm-up. We will go into the stadium tunnel at about 6:05 PM. Parents can not go in the tunnel as per stadium rules. Children will be supervised by the Braves organization from that point until after we sing the Anthem. Have a chat with your child about staying with me & not wandering off. After we sing, you are in charge of supervising your own child.

• VIEWING, PICTURE TAKING: About 6:50 PM, the chorus will go on to the field at the 1st base line in front of the Braves dugout to sing our National Anthem. (Somebody video/DVD and/or take pictures of us please, please, please!!!)

• FEED/WATER/BATHROOM YOUR CHILD: Please be sure your child has eaten at least 30 minutes prior to our meeting time of 6:00 PM. Food gives us energy to concentrate and perform our best. Food must be digested and the throat cleared to do our best singing. Drink water to clear the throat. There will be no bathroom breaks from 6:00-7:15, so please insist that your child go before we meet.

• PICK UP YOUR CHILD: After we sing, we will walk the kids back to the Eastvalley section of the stands. At that point, you are in charge of supervising your own child. Children should not wander off looking for you. Thanks!
