What do Web analytics have to do with communications companies anyway?

A lot.

That’s my not-so-humble opinion, and we’ll see if it’s shared by my favorite Web analytics expert and author of Web Analytics: An Hour a Day, Avinash Kaushik.

Guy Kawasaki

Guy Kawasaki

With a guy like Guy, where do you start?

Throughout the highs and lows (has he had ‘lows’?) of his career, his winning personality has endured. Positive, yet candid and - dare I say - ballsy, Guy Kawasaki is a survivor and a true Silicon Valley original

We are thrilled for him to join us on our Break through the Noise podcast. As an influencer himself, his perspective is truly unique and we can’t wait to see what he has to say next.

Live Podcast: Featured Guest - Carmen Scheidel, mediabistro

Carmen Scheidel

Back in the days when I was a Columbia Journalism student, everyone used one exalted resource for one reason or another - mediabistro.

In a way, mediabistro’s growth (going from being a mature start up, to being purchased by a large media company) has ran parallel to those of my graduating class.

But as we’ve all gone our separate ways, mediabistro has remained a constant; from their job postings, networking events and education resources (not to mention their amazing original blog content!), mediabistro has given us plenty of fodder to keep us connected.

On our Break through the Noise podcast this week, I talk to the woman who is largely responsible for this - Carmen Scheidel, Director of Education, Events, and Multimedia Content for mediabistro.

The Influence Report, Volume I, Issue 3

July 7th, 2009 by barbarabates

As we stated in our earlier influence reports, where and how influence happens today is very different from what was happening just a year ago.

Case in point: blog readership is up 300%, editorial calendars are quickly being replaced by up to the minute requests for sources, 270 BtoB publications have shuttered since 2007, there are more than 700 million Twitter visitors, and YouTube is the second most searched medium.

Sometimes the rapid pace of the changing media landscape can be dizzying, and the shifting ground makes it challenging for marketing and communications professionals to keep up.

One of the areas that may be most affected by these trends is the venerable Product Launch.

Live Podcast: Featured Guest - Brian Halligan, Co-Founder and CEO, HubSpot

June 26th, 2009 by Jennifer Lindsay
Brian Halligan

Brian Halligan

It always amazing to me how companies can have a ‘persona,’ seemly without even trying.

That’s one of the many things that fascinates me about HubSpot.

Right from the home page you get the sense you’re in the company of friendly individuals and - with the free tools they offer - in the company of people who know their respective, ’stuff.’

On today’s edition of our Break through the Noise podcast, we’re going to ask Brian about if their persona has been a factor in their rise to becoming a clear influnder in the makerting space - seemingly overnight.

A Note About Our Panel… Prepping To Host Social Media Club Event

June 23rd, 2009 by kevincheng
Your influence like your shadow extends to where you may never be

Your influence like your shadow extends to where you may never be

Yesterday in preparation for this Thursday’s Social Media Club event, Eastwick hosted a discussion with the participating panelists.  It was a lively session on “the power of influence.” With so much to discuss, the nearly hour long call seemed like a mere precursor to this Thursday’s full blown discussion on influence.

Dominique Lahaix, CEO of eCairn, started the conversation by defining his views on influence and how it’s measured today (curious aren’t you J).

Ryan Calo, academic fellow with the Center for Internet and Society at Stanford Law School, highlighted and shared some of the newest research on the topic.

Jeremy Thomas, Partner and Director of Global Brand Planning at Collaborate, articulated on how strategies for brand building have changed given the rise of new influencers.

Live Podcast: Featured Guest Chris Heuer, Social Media Club

June 19th, 2009 by Jennifer Lindsay

Chris Heuer, Source: chrisheuer.com

It’s an unfortunate aspect of live as a grown up that sometimes you have to associate with people you don’t especially like.

That couldn’t be further from the truth with today’s Break through the Noise guest, Chris Heuer (and for that matter, this wife Kristie Wells, too).

He’s a genuine person who happens to be whip-smart when t comes to social media. And as a founder of Social Media Club, he really practices what he preaches.
