Krabi Multi-adventure Day Trip from Phuket

We recently added this new and original tour program to our selection and the feedback from the first customers was really good, so as we always do I had to try it first hand in order to fully understand how it works so I can give better explanations to those interested in it, especially for this tour which is very different from the usual ones available from Phuket.

Pick up at Easy Day's office in Kathu was on time at 7:45 as planned, then in the van I greeted the few other guests met the guide Som. We already knew each other since she was also guiding

the Kapong RiverTubing Safari Tour when I did it last year, so I already knew that me and my fellow travellers were in very good hands for the day. Regardless of the beauty of the sites you visit, a great tour guide's skills, knowledge and attention can really make the difference.

The drive to Wat Bang Rieng which is located north of Phang Nga Town on the mainland takes about 2 hours, so instead of going straight there we had a first stop about half way at a kind of zoo/sanctuary located not far past the Sarasin Bridge. The guide explained that this is a place where they keep and give care to the animals that are seized from the illegal poachers that abused them for profit purposes, as well as other animals that got injured and need to be treated before being released in the wild. There were large cages hosting different primates like slow lorises, gibbons and macaques as well as birds, felines and others. The place looked very clean and the animals looked healthy and well looked after. This has been a good place to spend half an hour stretching our legs before proceeding with the trip towards Phang Nga.

Back in the minivan for another hour or so, we finally arrived at one of the highlights of the day, Wat Bang Rieng. This is probably my favorite temple in Thailand, at least among the ones I've seen so far. There's something magical about the place, the complex is made of a main pagoda and two huge statues, one is of a golden seated Buddha while the other is a less common statue of Kwan Yin, (Chinese Goddess of Mercy and Compassion). The parts are stretched across different hills/mountains, the views from the top are simply breathtaking and there's a unique mix of culture and nature. The interior of the main pagoda is also very particular featuring warrior-shaped pillars, frescoes and a relic of the Buddha. This is also one of the few places where with a bit of luck can spot the Giant Black Squirrel, we actually managed to find one but it was sleeping on a shaded and high branch so I couldn't take a decent picture. On the other hand, while walking back to the parking lot we stumbled on a “normal” brown squirrel that was happily eating a papaya which was bigger than the squirrel itself, quite a funny sight I must say.

The next stop was at at the area called Bor Thor, characterised by the tidal channels surrounded by mangrove forest and karsts, part of the Tan Bok Korani National Park, which is where the kayaking part of this day trip takes place. The area is at the northern edge of Phang Nga Bay, on previous tours I explored and kayaked around the huge bay a lot but always on the western and southern part, so this was a completely new experience for me. Now I can say that this less known area is every bit as good as the more popular parts of Phang Nga Bay, it even has some unique peculiarities. The starting point of the kayaking tour is the floating restaurant where the lunch was served later on, before departing for the adventure we were given the opportunity to choose between self-paddling or having a professional paddler, I'm a bit out of shape so I thought that I needed a bit of exercise, therefore I opted for the first option. The canoe tour lasted about 90 minutes altogether, back and forth through a first larger and then a narrower mangrove channel, and a middle part where we parked the kayaks for a while to explore a huge cave. The mangrove part of the tour was very nice, completely immersed in the natural environment of a thick mangrove forest with the impressive karst cliffs all around, we even paddled through some narrow openings in the rock all the way inside a “hong”, and later through a larger and longer cave (Tham Lod) full of stalactites. Then the cave exploration by walk was really amazing, not only because the cave is huge and full of stalactites and stalagmites, but mainly because this cave called Tham Pee Hua To (“cave of the big head ghost”) hosts some very interesting prehistoric paintings probably made by people who found shelter there from the heavy rains in ancient times. There's even a large boulder that resembles a skull, probably that's where the cave's nae comes from.

The set lunch was ready shortly after we returned to the restaurant, as usual there was a selection of 4-5 Thai dishes with plenty to eat for everyone. On the day's set menu was the popular Tom Yum Seafood, a vegetarian dish, Chicken with Cashew Nuts and fried fish, everything was tasty and still warm. The restaurant is pretty big and floating on the mangrove channel so the scenery is quite nice, while there we crossed paths with a large group of Chinese tourists but only for a moment, while for the rest of the time both during lunch and kayaking we were almost alone. Looks like the tour schedule is well planned to run a bit off time and avoid the larger crowds.

Back on the van, we stopped at an Elephant Camp just about 10 minutes away from the restaurant I already did this activity several times in different parts of Thailand and must say that this wasn't the most impressive one. The trek mainly takes place through a palm oil plantation (it's the main industry in the area) and just a little bit through the jungle. On the other hand the elephants seemed healthy and well treated by the staff, which is an important point. This is an optional activity in this Day Trip and in the overall it can still a good experience for someone who's never tried Elephant Trekking, while those who already experienced it in the jungle or in more natural an genuine environment could probably skip it without regrets.

Some 5 minutes away from the Elephant Camp we had our last stop of the day, last but not least since it was no less amazing than what we had done so far. Than Bok Korani Waterfall is part of the same national park that covers some of the islands in Krabi as well as the mangroves and caves that we visited earlier in the day. I had been to this place by myself last year during the rainy season and it was totally flooded by brown water due to the heavy rains, now that I returned at the right time of the year can say that the place is really beautiful.

The waterfall is not a vertical one so do not expect something impressive in that sense, but more because it's a river coming from inside a cave that splits into an endless number of waterfalls and streams creating an environment that looks as it came out of a fairy tale. The stepping grounds create a lot of little falls and pools where is possible to swim, the water has a nice turquoise color due to the deposit of diluted calcite from the surrounding mountains and it was surprisingly warm. I couldn't think of anything better than a bath in this waterfall to relax at the end of a exciting day like this, it was really pleasant to relax there for nearly an hour. Aside from the waterfall itself, the area is very interesting also because of the large variety of plants and the story behind them, since many of them were planted personally by the Royal Family.

After about one hour chilling out at the waterfall it was time to go back to Phuket. We left Krabi around 17:30 and I was back at our office in Kathu by 19:30 or so, a bit tired but definitely happy at the end of a wonderful day surrounded by the nature.

I can't find much negative points about this tour aside from the length, which means I would highly recommend it to anyone except for those who prefer to avoid long full day trips. Most definitely a must do tour during the dry season (December to April), while I wouldn't recommend it much during the rainy season or at least in the days after heavy rains as in that case the waterfall would have a completely different “face” being flooded by brown water.

This tour can also be a good solution to “hit two birds with one stone” for those who must move from a hotel in Phuket to a new one in Krabi area, since a drop off at Krabi hotels can be arranged with a fair surcharge.

The time when one phone call was enough for the whole holidays has passed. before we use to call home from a public phone to say "all right arrived and good weather...see you when back home".

Now we must stay connected, send picture, locate our mates and this have to be done soon and every where. Why we really don't know and it isn't the topic.

To do so and follow this eclectic life style we need a SIM card for iphone, tablets, phones and so on to be in touch, to make phone calls from Thailand cheaper is possible and to use the internet.

Thailand is pretty easy about this because everyone can buy a SIM card with wifi and data usage, since 1st August 2015 it is mandatory to register the SIM card in order to use it.

Register a Sim card in Thailand is easy just buy a Sim card from any shops that sell them (all 7/11 and Family mart do) then go to one of the telephone companies offices or booths with the passport to register it.

As example we use AIS (the most popular provider in Thailand). Get your SIM card in Phuket from any mini mart and go to AIS offices at any of the major shopping centers (Junk Ceylon in Patong or Central festival in Phuket Town).

Bring the passport and the telephone or tablet. Tell the assistants there that need to buy or register a SIM card and they will assist you.

At AIS can only register AIS SIM or 12 Call SIM cards. During rush hours will take about 40 minutes to complete the process. The SIM card will be ready to use soon after registration.

There are different plans that change time by time the assistants will help to choose the best.

The SIM card in Thailand for tourist are prepaid and can be charged from 20 to 500 Thai Baht per time for unlimited number of times.

When new cards will stop working after 30 days, every time a card is reloaded the card life is extended for 30 days from last expiring date for a maximum of 365 days from the first day.

Example: buy the SIM card in Thailand today 20 August and it i will expire on 19 September. Then on 25 August reload 100 Thai Baht, now the expiring date will be 18 October. Then on 27 August reload 50 Thai Baht, now the expiring date will be 16 November. And so on up to the 26 August 2016.

SIM cards in Thailand offer very good rates for phone calls and unlimited internet usage. Incoming call from Thailand or from a foreign Country are free of charge.

Very convenient rates for calling abroad, using special codes, starting from 1 Thai Baht per minutes (china and Hong Kong), most common rate is 10 Thai Baht per minutes

Difficult during these days to say if weather is bad or at least not so bad so i decided to make a special update about weather in Phuket in August.

The month of August closed with good weather, despite some rain sea was flat and no wind. There were two or three very hot days at the ed of last week because of the haze from Sumatra. Then a mild wind on Saturday and a night rain on Sunday cleared the air

But be aware that despite flat sea dugin Summer it is very dangerous to swim off the beaches on Phuket West Coast.

Do that only where there are lifeguards and only where is allowed (must falgs that are half yellow and half red). Otherwise enjoy a nice walk on the beaches and sunbath.

On 14th August another lovely day and enjoyed riding my motorbike from Patong to Kamala , this was high tide at north end of Patong Beach.

Today 13th August was a nice sunshine gave the good morning in Phuket that is back to blue sky and very nice condition to fully enjoy holidays and the island life.

On Tuesday 11th and Wednesday 12th rain was back and for two days dark sky was all over Phuket with a lot of rain. No wind and Sea was flat

Sunday 9th sky was covered in clouds but no rain and mild wind, while Monday 10th was a very good and hot day can see from the picture taken in the afternoon from The Nap Blue Moon suite balcony.

Sky is clear and can even see blue sky at distance so probably down the islands of Racha Yai and Phi Phi was a good day with some sun.

Wind picked up since yesterday so wave out in open sea can big between one and two meters. While on sheltered side of the islands can stay in flat water and enjoy the warm sea

Don't forget that sea water temperature in Phuket is always between 27 and 30 Celsius, very nice to swim and dive there.

The situation was good up to Sunday 2nd August then on Monday 3rd we woke up with heavy rain and flash floods that made traffic around the island difficult up to 11 in the morning.

No tragedy best time for a visit to a spa in Phuket to relax or an island tour for a lunch at a local restaurant and a bit of shopping

Thia situation should go for another three days with better weather on Tuesday and then heavy rain and storm for two days.

That was the situation until late afternoon on 15th July when changed and since yesterday Phuket went back to a very calm weather, sea is calm and only a light veil of clouds cover the sky.

So it is time again for all activities and to enjoy the sea out at the islands

Since one year the beaches are clean from chairs and small business and for those that like to relax on the beach is great to see how freely can walk along them

But keep in mind that from now until end of October it is very dangerous to swim. During Summer on Phuket West Coast rip currents are very strong and dangerous

It is heavy rain since Sunday night and seems will be like this for next couple of days. The good news is that it is normal for the period and it is good for the forest and the water reserves.

Being an all year destination Phuket has always a lot of people that come to visit for the beaches, the sea and the informal and amusing atmosphere

So what to do now if you are here and it is raining a lot?

First of all enjoy holidays anyway, air temperature is between 26 and 30 Celsius and water temperature is above 28 Celsius.

Can see from the two pictures on this article that the situation can be very different just few km south of Phuket. This because the fat clouds full of water are coming from west and Phuket hills attract them and rain falls. The hills works like a wall leaving areas on the east side sheltered from rain.

So could be good to stay in Phi Phi for few days.

Another easy option is to move to Koh Samui where weather is much better at the moment and can fully enjoy holidays

How to get from Phuket to Samui,?

The faster way is flying, BangkokAirways as direct flights from Phuket to Samui our times a day

PG 252 leaving Phuket at 9:35 am and arrives in Samui at 10:30 am
PG 254 leaving Phuket at 1:00 pm and arrives in Samui at   1:55 pm
PG 256 leaving Phuket at 4:00 pm and arrives in Samui at   4:55 pm
PG 258 leaving Phuket at 7:10 pm and arrives in Samui at   8:05 pm

Or can go with the cheaper option with a bus and ferry from Phuket to Samui

Two times a day is possible to go from Phuket to Samui with Fast ferry. The bus or minivan will take you to Donsak pier (four to five hours ) then 45 minutes ferry to Samui

Can leave Phuket at 7:00 am and arrive in Samui at 1:15 pm
or from Phuket at 10:00 am and arrive in Samui at 4:45 pm

So always a way to enjoy holidays in Thailand

I have finally found a tour company that is reliable and doesn't treat their customers as random numbers. We were probably not the easiest customers as we had loads going on in the background as we explained to you but

Your fantastic organisational skills and friendliness made a massive contribution to an outstanding albeit short holiday.

The private long boat tour with Bee was incredible. She is a wonderful lady whom I hope to meet again. Lunar from the tubing tour was like a ray of sunshine and we loved being in her company. The tubing was great and we lived the fact that it wasn't over run with people. Thanks for that excellent advice.

The highlights for me, however, was the private cooking class with Bee and Anne. It was so personal, Anne was so warm and welcoming, being in her home was a privilege and one I would have hated to miss. It was informative yet casual and I felt I was cooking with friends.

Your advice regarding that incredible restaurant, jok ......was spot on.

What a place. We didn't want to leave. Thanks for going out your way to make and then reschedule our reservation.

It is important to know that during Summer in Phuket it doesn't rain all day for few days and everywhere.

There are thunderstorms that locally can pour a lot of rain in a short time. So can rain at an hotel location and be sunny and fine all day at Phi Phi islands or other locations. As can be the opposite. in case of severe weather activities or tours are suspended but need first to get to the meeting points to have the correct picture about the weather situation. And some time take the "risk' of getting wet during the day.

Same is for the time could rain at Pick up time and then be good during the day or could be nice in the morning and then turn bad during the day

Von Bangkok geht es in den Westen Thailands, nach Kanchanaburi. Hier besuchen Sie den Schwimmenden Markt Amphawa, wo Sie die Händler in ihren Kanu`s beobachten können sowie die Brücke über den Kwai und die Death End Railway.

Von Kanchanaburi führt die Reise weiter in den Süden, vorbei an Hua Hin und den Stränden von Cha Am bis hinunter in den Khao Sok Nationalpark und auf die Insel Koh Samui. Auf Koh Samui haben Sie noch ein paar Tage, um an einem der schönsten Strände der Insel ein paar geruhsame Badetage zu genießen.

Im Anschluss an diese Reise besteht die Möglichkeit, Ihren Badeaufenthalt zu verlängern.

1. Tag: Abreise

Von einem Abflughafen Ihrer Wahl starten Sie Ihre Reise in das „Land des Lächelns“ und fliegen in die faszinierende Metropole Bangkok.

2. Tag: Ankunft in Bangkok

Auf dem Flughafen werden Sie bereits von Ihrem Reiseleiter erwartet und in Empfang genommen.
Nachdem Sie im Hotel eingecheckt haben und auch die anderen Reisegäste eingetroffen sind, findet noch ein Treffen mit Ihrem Guide im Hotel statt. Er stellt Ihnen den Reiseverlauf der nächsten Tage vor und Sie haben Gelegenheit, sich kennenzulernen und offene Fragen zu klären.

3. Tag: Ein erstes Kennenlernen der Megametropole (F,M))

Golden Mount, Bangkok

Nachdem Sie ausgeschlafen und gemütlich gefrühstückt haben, ist noch Zeit für ein Bad im Pool. Am späten Vormittag lernen Sie die Schönheiten Bangkok`s abseits der klassischen Touristenrouten kennen. Ihr Ziel ist der 81 Meter hohe Golden Mount, von dem aus Sie einen tollen Blick auf die Innenstadt Bangkoks haben. Auf dem Golden Mount befindet sich der 1865 erbaute und mit vergoldeten Mosaiksteinchen verkleidete Chedi des Wat Srakes Rajavaramahavihara.

Auf dem Weg dorthin gibt es immer wieder Sehenswürdigkeiten, an denen Sie Halt machen und zum Mittagsessen entführt Sie ihr Guide in ein kleines lokales Restaurant.

4. Tag: Die unterschiedlichen Gesichter Bangkok`s (F,M)

Um 08:30 holt Sie Ihr Guide auf eine abwechslungsreiche und spannende Tour durch Bangkok ab, auf der Sie die vielseitigen Facetten dieser Stadt zu sehen bekommen. Zuerst tauchen Sie hinein in das quirlige Leben von China Town mit seinen exotischen Waren und Gerüchen. Ein echtes Erlebnis für die Sinne.

Von hier aus geht es weiter zum Königspalast und zu dem beeindruckenden Wat Phra Kaew, der auch als „Temple of the Emerald Buddha“ genannt wird. Nach so vielen Eindrücken ist es Zeit für eine Pause und eine kleine Stärkung.
Nach dem Mittagessen geht es gemütlich weiter. Sie fahren auf einem Longtailboot durch die Klongs von Bangkok und besuchen den „Tempel der Morgenröte“. Der Wat Arun liegt direkt am Fluss und bietet für Mutige, die den Auf- und vor allem den Abstieg wagen, einen tollen Blick über die Stadt.
Gegen 16:30 kehren Sie zu Ihrem Hotel zurück, so dass Sie sich noch ein wenig am Pool ausspannen und ein Bad nehmen können.

5. Tag: Die Highlights von Kanchanaburi (F,M)

Heute fahren Sie in die Provinz Kanchanaburi. Auf dem Weg dorthin besuchen Sie den Schwimmenden Markt von Amphawa“, wo sie dem bunten Treiben der Händler in ihren beladenen Kanus zusehen.

Danach geht es zur berühmten Brücke über den Kwai, wo sie erst das JEATH War Museum besuchen und anschließend über die Brücke zum anderen Flussufer gehen können. Keine Panik, sollte Ihnen auf dem Weg dorthin ein Zug entgegen kommen, gibt es in regelmäßigen Abständen Wartebuchten, wo Sie den Zug an sich vorbeifahren lassen können.

Je nachdem wie weit die Zeit fortgeschritten ist, unternehmen Sie eine Zugfahrt mit der Death End Railway oder fahren direkt nach Tham Krasae. Tham Krasae ist der schönste Abschnitt der Zugstrecke und Sie können die Strecke auf den Schienen zwischen zwei Stationen laufen. Ein tolles Erlebnis und Highlight für jeden (Hobby-) Fotografen.

Nach der Mittagspause in einem lokalen Restaurant besuchen Sie noch die von den Khmer erbaute Tempelanlage Prasat Muang Singh. Muang Singh heißt übersetzt die Löwenstadt und wurde zwischen 857 und 1157 erbaut. Das geistige Zentrum in jener Zeit war das im heutigen Kambodscha gelegene Angkor Wat.

6. Tag: Hua Hin, die Sommerresidenz der Königsfamilie (F)

Auf dem Weg in das königliche Seebad Hua Hin kommen Sie an den Dörfern Ban Nong Prong und Ban Thap Khang vorbei. Die Dörfer werden von den Lao Song bewohnt, deren Vorfahren ursprünglich aus Laos und Vietnam stammen. Während des Krieges Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts wurden sie als Kriegsgefangene hierher umgesiedelt.

Noch immer wahren sie ihre überlieferten Traditionen, wozu u.a. die traditionell schwarze Färbung ihrer Kleidung gehört und ein Festival, das jedes Jahr am 18. April stattfindet. Während Ihres Besuchs erhalten Sie einen Einblick in die Gebräuche und Kultur dieser Menschen.

Von den Lao Song geht es nach Phetburi, wo Sie den Wat Kamphaeng Laeng besichtigen. Nachdem die Khmer das zuvor hier lebende Volk der Mon vertrieben hatte, ließ der Khmer König Jayavarman VII diese rund 6.000 Quadratmeter große Tempelanlage Ende des 12. Jahrhunderts erbauen. Die Stadt Phetchaburi bildete im 12. Jahrhundert den südlichsten Außenpunkt des Khmer Reiches.
Die Tempelanlage bestand ursprünglich aus fünf turmähnlichen Gebilden, von denen vier nach den Himmelsrichtungen ausgelegt waren. Der fünfte und größte Turm stand in der Mitte. Diese Pagode war dem mächtigen Gott Shiva gewidmet.

Nach der Mittagspause besuchen Sie den Sommerpalast Phra Nakhon Khiri Palast, der auch unter dem Namen Khao Wang Palace bekannt ist. Phra Nakhon Khiri bedeutet „Heiliger Stadthügel“. Auf den drei nicht ganz 100 Meter hohen Hügeln wurden eine Residenz des Königs, der Chedi Phrathat Chom Phet und der königliche Tempel Wat Phra Kaeo errichtet. Vom Palast haben Sie eine tolle Aussicht über die Stadt.

Das nächste Ziel ist die Khao Luang Höhle, eine der spektakulärsten Höhlen in der Nähe der Stadt und die größte Höhle der gesamten Provinz.

Die Tropfsteinhöhle wird als Tempelheiligtum hoch verehrt und ist seit Jahrhunderten ein Ort der Stille, Verehrung und Meditation. Auf dem Vorplatz der Höhle leben Affen und es ist Tradition, sie zu füttern.

7. Tag: Zu den Stränden von Thung Wua Laen (F)

Nachdem Sie Hua Hin und die Strandbäder von Cha Am hinter sich gelassen haben, erleben Sie die provinzielle Seite des beginnenden Südthailand. Während der gemütlichen Fahrt weiter in den Süden besichtigen Sie neben vielen kleineren Sehenswürdigkeiten eine Ananasfarm, ein Fischerdorf an der Mündung des Pranburi Flusses und eine Kokosnussfabrik.

Zum Abschluss des Tages verbringen Sie noch etwas Zeit am Strand von Thung Wua Laen. Am Abend bringt Sie Ihr Reiseleiter zu einem einfachen aber dem wohl leckersten Fischrestaurant in ganz Thailand. Lassen Sie sich nicht nur den Fisch schmecken sondern probieren Sie unbedingt auch von den auf unterschiedliche Arten zubereiteten Krabben und Krebsen.

8. Tag: Die spirituelle Seite Thailands (F,M)

Wat Phra Borommathat Chaiya

Hotel: Khao Sok River Lodge

Dieser Tag wartet mit einigen Besonderheiten auf. Sie fahren in den Distrikt Chaiya, einen der ältesten und historisch bedeutsamsten Orte in Südthailand. Es gilt als möglich, dass Chaiya eine der Hauptstädte des buddhistischen Seereichs Srivijaya war, das vom 7. bis zum 13. Jahrhundert existierte.

Als erstes besuchen Sie das spirituelle Zentrum Wat Suan Mokkh, das übersetzt „Garten der Befreiung“ heißt. Interessierte jeder Nation können sich hier noch heute für 11 Tage in eine Art Klausur zur Meditation zurückziehen können. Das Kloster wird von dem ehrwürdigen 70jährigen Ajahn Poh geleitet, der es gemäß den Lehren des Gründers und Dhamma-Lehrers Ajahn Buddhadasa führt.

Von hier aus geht es weiter zum sehr schönen Wat Phra Borommathat Chaiya, eine Tempelanlage mit einem über 1.200 Jahre alten historischen Chedi sowie zahlreichen Buddha-Relikten und Skulpturen.

Nach diesem Ausflug in den Buddhismus ist Ihr nächstes Ziel das Dorf Phum Riang. Dieses malerische, von Muslimen bewohnte Dorf ist berühmt für seine handgefertigten Waren aus Seide. Diese werden in den für das Dorf typischen Farben rot, gelb und schwarz hergestellt. Sie lernen eine Weberei von innen kennen und können dem gesamten Produktionsprozess von der Trocknung der Seide bis zum Weben der fertigen Kleidungsstücke zuschauen.

Nach dem Mittagessen fahren Sie in das Baan Klong Sai Village. Hier können Sie die Affen bei ihrer Arbeit wie z.B. der Kokosnussernte zusehen. Langsam und mit einigen weiteren Stopps an sehenswerten Naturschauplätzen geht es schließlich zu Ihrem Resort, das direkt am Sok River liegt.

9. Tag: Die Floating Bungalows auf dem Chiew Larn See (F,M)

Der Chiew Larn See

Mit dem Longtailboot fahren Sie über den wohl beeindruckendsten See in ganz Thailand. Der Chiew Larn See füllt mehrere Schluchten, so dass seine Ufer und kleinen Inseln atemberaubende Panoramen bieten.

Das Boot bringt Sie zu einem sogenannten Floating-Bungalow, einem einfachen auf dem Wasser schwimmenden Holzbungalow. Hier haben Sie Gelegenheit zum Schwimmen oder mit dem Kayak zu fahren. Nach dem Mittagessen wird es abenteuerlich und Sie unternehmen eine ca. zweistündige Trekkingtour in den Dschungel zur Pakarang Höhle.

9. Tag: Koh Samui und der Golf von Siam (F)

Nachdem Sie gemütlich gefrühstückt haben, fahren Sie zum Donsak Pier, wo Sie mit der Fähre auf die Insel Koh Samui fahren. Ihr Resort liegt im ruhigen Norden am sehr schönen Choeng Mon Beach.

10. Tag: Ein Tag am Strand (F)

Diesen Tag können Sie ganz nach Lust und Laune gestalten. Sie können ausschlafen, gemütlich frühstücken, die Sonne, das Meer und den Strand genießen. Wenn Sie etwas unternehmen möchten, erkunden Sie die nähere Umgebung Ihres Resorts, um einen ersten Eindruck von der Insel zu gewinnen.

Und wenn Sie es vorher noch nicht ausprobiert haben, sollten Sie die Gelegenheit zu einer der wohltuenden Thai-Massagen nutzen.

11. Tag: Die Insel Koh Samui (F)

Heute starten Sie auf Sightseeingtour über die Insel. Vergessen Sie nicht, Ihre Badesachen einzupacken, da Sie während der Tour immer wieder Gelegenheit auf ein abkühlendes Bad haben werden. Wie ihr Hotel befindet sich auch der Big Buddha im Nordosten der Insel, weshalb Sie Ihre Tour dort beginnen. Die Tempelanlage lädt zum Verweilen ein und es gibt viele kleine Figuren und Skulpturen zu entdecken. Die Treppe zum Big Buddha hinauf ist nicht allzu hoch, so dass sie auch von kleinen Kindern bewältigt werden kann.

In der Nähe befindet sich die Tempelanlage Wat Plai Laem, die mit ihren großen bunt angemalten Statuen, vor allem mit ihrer 18 armigen Buddha-Figur in der Mitte des Sees beeindruckt. Wenn Sie mögen, können Sie im Tempel gegen eine kleine Spende eine Packung Fischfutter erwerben und die Fische im See füttern.

Anschließend fahren Sie zum Strand Chaweng, den längsten Strand auf ganz Koh Samui. Wenn Sie dort sind, versuchen Sie sich einmal vorzustellen, dass es Anfang der 80er Jahre hier nur zwei einfache Resorts unter Schatten spendenden Palmen gab, die ihren Strom stundenweise von einem Dieselgenerator bezogen haben.

Noch etwas weiter südlich von Chaweng liegt das ebenfalls beliebte Lamai, wo Sie sich die Felsformationen Hin Ta – Hin Yai (übersetzt: Großvater und Großmutter) ansehen. Ein kleiner Spaß, den sich die Natur da ausgedacht hat.

Danach besuchen Sie den Tempel Khunaram, wo der Mönch Luang Phor Daeng Payasilo lebte. Er starb als 79jähriger während der Meditation ohne seine Haltung verändert zu haben. Da er weder verbrannt noch beerdigt werden wollte, haben ihn die anderen Mönche in dieser Stellung sitzen lassen. Heute gilt sein Leichnam als Heiligtum und ist noch immer in dieser ursprünglichen Position in einem Schrein aus Glas zu besichtigen. Der Grund, warum sein Körper nicht verwest liegt darin, dass bereits seit dem 5. Jahrhundert Mönche eine Art Selbstmumifizierung betrieben, indem sie durch spezielle Ernährung, dem Trinken von Lackbaumsaft und Meditation ihre Verdauungsorgane quasi versiegelten. Es steht zu vermuten, das Luang Phor Daeng Payasilo zumindest etwas Vergleichbares getan hat.

Südlich von Lamai gibt es kleinere gemütliche Küstenstraßen und Wege durch Kokosnussplantagen, wo Sie mit etwas Glück Affen bei der Kokosnussernte beobachten können. Schließlich fahren Sie auf der Westseite der Insel wieder die Küste Richtung Norden und zum Na Muang Wasserfall Nr. 2, wo sich ein Bad am Fuße des Falls anbietet.

Noch etwas weiter die Küste hinauf kommen Sie nach Nathon, wo Sie mit der Fähre angekommen sind und wo es einen lokalen Markt gibt. Im Norden haben Sie dann je nach Lust und Laune noch Gelegenheit, an dem einen und anderen Strand einen Stopp einzulegen.

13. Tag: Ein letzter Tag am Strand (F)

Der Tag steht zu Ihrer freien Verfügung. Relaxen Sie am Strand oder fahren Sie mit dem Taxi in das nahe gelegene Chaweng, um ein paar letzte Urlaubseinkäufe zu erledigen.

14. Tag: Rückreise (F)

Sie werden vom Hotel zum Flughafen von Koh Samui gefahren, von wo Sie nach wie immer viel zu kurzer Zeit wieder zurück nach Deutschland fliegen.

Auf der zweiten Tour zeigen wir Ihnen die Insel Phuket mit ihren Stränden, Aussichtspunkten, Wasserfällen, dem Big Buddha und der historischen Altstadt von Phuket Town.

Von Phuket geht es weiter in den Khao Sok Nationalpark. Nachdem Sie in Ihrem Resort eingecheckt und das Gepäck verstaut, zeigt Ihnen der Guide auf einer gemütlichen Trekkingtour die Tier- und Pflanzenwelt des Parks. Außerdem starten Sie auf eine zweistündige Kanufahrt den Sok River hinunter.

Und für das Beste im Khao Sok Nationalpark haben wir einen ganzen Tag vorgesehen. Auf dem Longtailboot geht es über den Chiew Larn See durch Schluchten mit wundervollen Panoramen zu einem Floating Bungalow, wo Sie Gelegenheit zum Relaxen, Schwimmen und Kanu fahren haben. Nach dem Mittag führt Ihr Sie Guide auf einen Trek in den Dschungel und zu einer Höhle, bevor es mit dem Boot wieder zurück zum Pier geht.

Vom Khao Sok Nationalpark führt die Reise schließlich auf die Insel Koh Samui, wo Sie in einem Strandresort im Norden der Insel übernachten. Nachdem Sie einen Strandtag eingelegt haben, zeigen wir Ihnen an zwei Tagen die Insel und bringen Sie in den Ang Thong Marinenationalpark.

Nachdem Sie eingecheckt haben und auch die anderen Reisegäste eingetroffen sind, findet später noch einmal ein Treffen mit Ihrem Reiseleiter im Hotel statt. Er erzählt Ihnen den Reiseverlauf der nächsten Tage und Sie haben Gelegenheit, Ihnen kennenzulernen und Fragen zu stellen.

3. Tag: Sonne, Strand und Meer (F)

Dieser Tag dient Ihrer Erholung von der langen Anreise. Genießen Sie den langen Sandstrand oder einen der Pools in Ihrem Resort.

Nai Yang Beach, Phuket

Nachdem in der Vergangenheit viele Strände auf Phuket oftmals illegal mit Shops, Restaurants, Sonnenliegen und Wassersportgeräten zugebaut wurden, steuert die Regierung nun massiv diesen Fehlentwicklungen entgegen. Viele Angebote mussten bereits eingestellt und Gebäude wieder entfernt werden, um den ursprünglichen Charme der Strände auf Phuket wieder herzustellen. An immer mehr Stränden wurde deshalb auch das Aufstellen von Sonnenliegen verboten. Wundern Sie sich also nicht über das Fehlen eines solchen Angebotes.

4. Tag: Der Charme der Phang Nga Bay (F,M)

James Bond Island

Heute erleben Sie die wilde Schönheit der Phang Nga Bay mit ihren Felseninseln, die wie Nadeln aus dem Wasser ragen. Mit einem typisch thailändischen Longtailboot fahren Sie durch die Inselwelt der Bay zu bekannten Sehenswürdigkeiten wie dem James Bond Felsen und dem von Seenomaden gegründeten Fischerdorf Koh Panyee.

Die Ziele werden zeitlich so angefahren, dass die anderen Touristenboote entweder schon wieder weg oder noch nicht angekommen sind. Auf diese Weise können Sie die Schönheit der Umgebung in aller Ruhe genießen. Und damit Sie auch Appetit auf Ihr Mittagessen bekommen, erkunden Sie einen Teil der Bay und ihrer Höhlen mit einem Kayak.

Anschließend fahren Sie nach Takua Thung zu dem Tempel Wat Suwan Kuha. Einheimische nennen ihn auch kurz Wat Tham, den Höhlentempel. Die Anlage besteht aus mehreren Kalksteinhöhlen, wovon die größte einen mehr als 200 Jahre alten und 15 Meter langen vergoldeten, liegen Buddha beherbergt. Außerhalb der Höhlen tummeln sich viele Makaken, die sich liebend gern von den Besuchern füttern lassen.

5. Tag: Sightseeingtour über Phuket (F,M)

Kata View Point, Phuket

Phuket ist eine große Halbinsel und es gibt viel zu sehen. Sie starten nach dem Frühstück zunächst mit etwas Kultur. Weit im Süden von Phuket befindet sich auf einem Berg ein riesiger Big Buddha.

Neben dem imposant aufragenden Buddha haben Sie von dem Berg einen fantastisch weiten Blick über die Ebene bis hinaus zu den vorgelagerten Inseln im Meer.

Danach besuchen Sie den wichtigsten und größten Tempel Phukets, den mit Gold verzierten Wat Chalong. Er befindet sich in einer schön angelegten Gartenanlage, über die Sie aus der 2. Etage des Tempels einen guten Überblick haben.
Um nicht nur Buddha-Figuren und Tempelanlagen zu sehen führt Sie Ihr nächstes Ziel zu einer in den 1940er Jahren erbauten Cashewnuss Fabrik. Hier können Sie zusehen, wie die Nüsse zu vielfältigen Produkten verarbeitet werden. Das Aufknacken und Rösten der Cashews ist nach wie eine mühselige Arbeit. Nachdem man diesen Prozess kennengelernt hat, versteht man auch viel besser, warum diese Nüsse ihren Preis haben.

Zum Mittagessen fahren Sie auf den Rang Hill, wo es ein gutes lokales Restaurant mit authentischem Thaifood gibt. Und während Sie essen bietet sich Ihnen ein toller Blick auf die Stadt Phuket. Die Kinder können unterdessen die wilden Affen auf den Bäumen beobachten.

Nach dem Essen besichtigen Sie die im portugiesischen Architekturstil geprägte Altstadt von Phuket Town. Außerdem finden Sie hier einige interessante alte chinesische Shops.

Sollten Sie Wünsche haben, was Sie sich unbedingt auf Phuket darüber hinaus ansehen möchten, ist auf dem Rückweg in den Norden der Insel hierfür ausreichend Raum vorgesehen. Wenn Sie keine bestimmten Wünsche haben, zeigen wir Ihnen noch einige der vielen Strände, die es hier gibt.

6. Tag: Ihre Wahl: Strand oder Shopping in Patong (F)

Der Tag steht zu Ihrer freien Verfügung. Je nach Lust und Laune können Sie den Tag am Strand verbringen oder sich nach Patong fahren lassen, um auf eigene Faust zu shoppen und die Stadt zu erkunden.

7. Tag: Meeresschildkröten und Dschungelfeeling (F,M)

Hotel: Khao Sok River Lodge

Heute fahren Sie Richtung Norden zum Khao Sok Nationalpark. Auf dem Weg dorthin besuchen Sie ein Schildkröten Schutzprojekt in Thai Muang. Sieben Arten der weltweit vorkommenden Meeresschildkröten sind vom Aussterben bedroht, weshalb 2006 im „Jahr der Schildkröte“ eine internationale Kampagne zum Schutz der Tiere ausgerufen wurde. In den Gewässern vor Thailand kamen in der Vergangenheit fünf Arten von Meeresschildkröten vor. Eine davon wurde jedoch schon seit 15 Jahren nicht mehr gesichtet und gilt daher als ausgestorben.

Der Strand von Thai Muang ist einer von mehreren, an denen sich die Schildkröten ausruhen und Eier legen. Das Projekt vor Ort kümmert sich sowohl um verletzte Tiere als auch um die Schildkrötenjungen. Um deren Überlebenschancen zu erhöhen, werden die Eier jedes Jahr ausgegraben und die Jungen, nachdem sie geschlüpft sind, in das Meer entlassen.

Danach fahren Sie weiter nach Khao Lak, wo Sie einen kleinen Stopp am Polizeiboot einlegen. Das Boot wurde während des Tsunami`s im Jahr 2004 von der Welle über zwei Kilometer in das Landesinnere geschwemmt, wo es noch immer liegt und als Mahnmal besucht werden kann.

Je nach Uhrzeit essen Sie in Khao Lak oder im Khao Sok Nationalpark, wo Sie im Anschluss hinfahren. Nachdem Sie eingecheckt haben, geht es noch auf eine entspannte Kanufahrt den Sok River hinunter. Hierbei haben Sie Gelegenheit, die Tiere in Ufernähe des Flusses zu beobachten. Und wer noch nicht müde ist, kann mit dem Guide auf eine kleine Trekkingtour in den Dschungel starten.

8. Tag: Die Floating Bungalows des Chiew Larn See (F,M)

Mit dem Longtailboot fahren Sie über den wohl schönsten See in ganz Thailand. Das Wasser des Chiew Larn füllt mehrere Schluchten und seine Ufer und kleinen Inseln bieten atemberaubende Panoramen.

Das Boot bringt Sie zu einem der Floating-Bungalows, einem einfachen auf dem Wasser schwimmenden Holzbungalow. Hier haben Sie Gelegenheit, Schwimmen zu gehen und mit einem Kayak den See zu erkunden. Nach dem Mittagessen unternehmen Sie noch eine ca. zweistündige Trekkingtour in den Dschungel zur Pakarang Höhle.

9. Tag: Weiterreise nach Koh Samui (F)

Hotel: White House Beach Resort & Spa

Nachdem Sie gemütlich gefrühstückt haben, fahren Sie zum Donsak Pier, wo Sie mit der Fähre nach Koh Samui gebracht werden. Ihr Resort liegt am schönen Choeng Mon Beach im ruhigen Norden der Insel.

10. Tag: Strandtag (F)

Der Tag gibt Ihnen Gelegenheit, auf Koh Samui anzukommen, sich in Ihrem Resort und der näheren Umgebung umzusehen.

Genießen Sie den Strand und wenn Sie es vorher noch nicht ausprobiert haben, sollten Sie spätestens jetzt die Gelegenheit zu einer der wohltuenden Thai-Massagen wahrnehmen.

11. Tag: Sightseeingtour über Koh Samui (F,M)

Sie starten zu einer Sightseeingtour über die Insel. Nicht weit von Ihrem Hotel befindet sich der Big Buddha, das erste Ziel Ihrer Tour. Die Tempelanlage lädt zum Verweilen ein und es gibt viele kleine Figuren und Skulpturen zu entdecken. Die Treppe hinaus zum Big Buddha ist nicht allzu hoch, so dass Sie bequem auch von Kindern bewältigt werden kann.

Anschließend besuchen Sie den Wat Plai Laem, der vor allem mit seinen großen bunten Statuen und insbesondere mit seiner 18 armigen Buddha-Figur in der Mitte des Sees beeindruckt. Im Tempel können Sie gegen eine kleine Spende eine Packung Fischfutter erwerben und damit die Fische im See füttern.

Danach fahren Sie nach Chaweng, um sich den längsten Strand auf Koh Samui anzusehen. Noch in den der 80er Jahre befanden sich hier nur zwei einfache Resorts, die ihren Strom stundenweise von einem Dieselgenerator bezogen haben. Ein Bild, das man sich heute nur noch schwer vorstellen kann.
Noch etwas südlich von Chaweng befindet sich der ebenfalls beliebte Ort Lamai, wo Sie am Strand die Felsformationen Hin Ta – Hin Yai (übersetzt: Großvater und Großmutter) besichtigen. Ein kleiner Spaß, den sich die Natur ausgedacht hat.

Anschließend besuchen Sie den Tempel Khunaram, wo der Mönch Luang Phor Daeng Payasilo lebte. Er starb als 79jähriger während der Meditation ohne seine Haltung verändert zu haben. Da er weder verbrannt noch beerdigt werden wollte, haben ihn die anderen Mönche in dieser Stellung sitzen lassen. Heute gilt sein Leichnam als Heiligtum und ist noch immer in dieser ursprünglichen Position in einem Schrein aus Glas zu besichtigen. Der Grund, warum sein Körper nicht verwest liegt darin, dass er sich vermutlich selbst mumifiziert hat. Eine Technik, die Mönche bereits seit dem 5. Jahrhundert betreiben, indem sie durch eine spezielle Ernährung, dem Trinken von Lackbaumsaft und Meditation ihre Verdauungsorgane quasi von innen versiegeln.

Südlich von Lamai gibt es kleine gemütliche Küstenstraßen und Wege durch Kokosnussplantagen, wo Sie mit etwas Glück Affen bei der Kokosnussernte beobachten können. Im Westen der Insel geht es dann wieder die Küste hinauf und zum Na Muang Wasserfall Nr. 2, wo sich ein Bad am Fuße des Falls anbietet.

Anschließend geht es langsam zurück weiter die Küste hinauf, vorbei an Nathon, wo Sie noch einen lokalen Markt besuchen können. Im Norden haben Sie dann je nach Lust und Laune noch Gelegenheit, an dem einen und anderen Strand einen Stopp zum Baden einzulegen.

12. Tag: Der Ang Thong Nationalpark (F,M)

Mit dem Boot fahren Sie in den Ang Thong Marinenationalpark. Dort angekommen können Sie mit einem Kayak die Inseln entlang fahren und auf der Insel Mu Ko den wunderschönen smaragdgrünen See Tale Nai zu besichtigen.

Während des Aufstiegs zur Aussichtsplattform lohnt es sich, einen Blick über die Schulter zu werfen, da sich Ihnen ein toller weitläufiger Blick über den Nationalpark mit seinen vielen Inseln bietet.

13. Tag: Ein letzter Tag am Strand (F)

Der Tag steht zu Ihrer freien Verfügung. Relaxen Sie am Strand oder fahren Sie mit dem Taxi in das nahe gelegene Chaweng, um ein paar letzte Urlaubseinkäufe zu erledigen.

14. Tag: Rückreise (F)

Sie werden vom Hotel zum Flughafen von Koh Samui gefahren, von wo Sie nach wie immer viel zu kurzer Zeit wieder zurück nach Deutschland fliegen.

Time for a weather update as finally some rain arrived making air less hot and more pleasant sleeping at night.

Weather was very hot with temperatures during the close to 40 Celsius. Sometime strong wind was carrying fresh air.

Than around 10th April first few drops of rain, just ten to twenty minutes thunderstorms that left more humidity and hot behind.

We all were looking forward for Songkarn Day and really was on 12 first real storm with rain that lasted enough to cool down the weather

On 13th April again a thunderstorm during late afternoon to help splashing water for Songkran and to refill the water reserves. An again today a nice cool rain just after lunch time

Seems this will be the pattern for next few days, must day that it is exactly how should be after the dry period between January and mid April rain is expected

What is Songkran day?
The name comes from Sanskrit and in other regions around Asia is the new year day, in all these areas the main religion is Buddhism.
Among Thai people is simply the New Year celebration in Thailand and marks the passage from the hot and dry season to the more humid and rainy Summer. Until the end of 19th century was the official new year day. the Thailand uniformed to rest of the world moving to 1st January, despite this Thai People celebrate the New year on 13th April every Year.

It is most important celebration in Thailand and is public holidays from 13th to 15th April

It is a day to stay together with friends and Family, enjoy food and splash a lot of water each others and to others. The water will refresh people and wash away all bed from past year

Thai People will take all the Buddha out the house and revere them with gently perfumed shower , then start the day, when visit someone house will be a polite gesture to pour water and flowers on the Buddah of the house

Why is Songkran so special?
Thailand has strong traditions dating back in history and Songkran is considered one of most important day in the year and marks the important passage from dry season to rain.

Being Agriculture a very important part of Thailand life the Songkran Day keeps its importance in people life and is a day for everyone o relax and have fun. It is common to see people splashing Police officers and from them reply with a smile and bit of water too.

Some important things to keep in mind during Songkran celebration:

By tradition the water splashing is between sunrise and sunset.
When dark people will dress then normally and do not except that tourists splash water all night just thinking is fun. To avoid confontrations and problem, just follow the tradition and behave.

It is not allow drink alcohol along the streets and public areas designated for water play, don't complain then if Police come and pick up those that though was just a big pool party.

Dress properly as requested by Thai habits. Songkran isn't world biggest wet shirt competition.

Everyone like drive around and stop at the spots where people splash each other, driver very carefully. Sometime ice is add to water and splashed on riders face...most of times is fun..sometime accidents happen.

Drink and drive is a criminal offense also at Songkran Day.

How to fully enjoy Songkran Day

Find a place where gather with your friends enjoy a BBQ and some beers, play fairly with those like to play splashing each other, don't drive around to avoid accidents.

When sun goes down put all "weapons" away, relax and have a good night sleep, next day is a new year

About weather in Phuket in March there is not much to say. It Was easy, sun shine, blue sky and very hot. Special second part of march saw temperature raising.

For couple of days was windy making more pleasant stay in the sun, otherwise need to be careful between 12:00 and 16:00 hrs when air temperature is at the top, around 36 Celsius.

Few drops of rain didn't help to cool down and now water reserves are at the minimum.

This weather will take us into April when Thailand Summer is very dry and hot, only after Songkran day we should see some serious storm and real rain.

Thanks so much for arranging our day out today. We had a really good day and enjoyed going up to Big Buddha and had the best meal in the most beautiful garden and could not believe how reasonable the prices were as well. Definitely rated as our second favourite meal this holiday. We enjoyed Kok Chang and although we come from Africa and are not partial to tamed elephants these elephants were cared for and on our short trek we found an elephant of theirs up in the trees grazing and enjoying freedom.
All in all a very good day and now we are in KL awaiting our flight back to Perth.
Thanks too for arranging our superb day to Phang Nha. The lunch we had their we rated our most favourite and tasty meal. I also loved the coconut sweet treats cooked in banana leaves that we tried with coffee on our way up to Phang Nha, they were delicious.
Your organising definitely made our trip so easy from our airport collection to our ferry pick ups and trip to Phi Phi and getting us back to the airport.

Tony & I have just returned from our private tour of the James Bond Island with Bee and Mr Pual.

We have had the most fantastic day and wish you to know that both Bee & Mr Pual were exemplary and looked after us very well indeed.

Bee was very informative about the island and the village on stilts, we also visited a cave temple. Bee is a credit to your company and we thank her for a wonderful day. Everything went according to plan, the long boat, the sea kayak and the lunch, well done, we really enjoyed ourselves.

Weather in February is as expected, clear blue sky. The wind sometime has been bit stronger than normal making air temperature very pleasant.

Same as the sea that seems to be a bit cooler than usual.

Overall very good, just around Chinese new year (18 to 20 February) a tin line of clouds covered the sun and on 18 night few drops of rain made the night sleep great.
