Pick the right type of kitchen flooring is going to be determined by 3 simple things which include durability, use, and style. These three things we are going to go into detail with this post but first lets take a look at a few examples of some kitchen floors that have been well constructed.

Some Simple Kitchen Flooring Ideas

The Style

Okay, now those were some nice looking kitchen floors, and you could have a kitchen that looks just as good if you really want to. I am no interior design expert but I do know that the color, look, and mood that your floor gives off is a very important factor that you should never ignore. When it comes down to picking a style that is right for you, there are a few different ways that you can go about doing this.

What I would if I were to completely redo a kitchen is get some colors together and try to figure out what type of mood you are going for. If you would like to have a bright room full energy try going for warm colors and cool colors if you would like to have a darker room. If you are completely gutting a room or building it for the first time you are given much more freedom of choice.

If however you already have a kitchen and are only redoing the flooring then you are limited to what you can change because it needs to match what is already there. Ether way, a brand new flooring is going to definitely liven things up.

Types Of Flooring

In order to start you off you need to know the difference between all the types of flooring there are out there. You can look at hardwood floors, which come in solid, and engineered forms.

Hardwood floors are solid, look very nice and are very easy to clean. Solid hardwood floors are thicker and sturdier but sometimes suffer from moisture and and other temperature problems. Engineered flooring on the other hand can withstand these these circumstances and generally last much longer because of it.

Laminate Flooring

Laminate flooring is a great way to mimic real flooring but also reducing costs at the same time. Laminate floors are easy to install and setup, generally you glue and click the pieces together in order to make them cover your whole base.

The lifetime of laminate flooring is very and can last up to 25 years.

Vinyl Flooring

A very popular choice for kitchens and bathrooms, vinyl flooring is very often used because of its resistance to moisture. Vinyl is very similar to laminate flooring as it is made to mimic certain other types of flooring that generally cost much more.

Marble Flooring

Marble flooring is the be all and end all when it comes to durability, not to mention the fact that it just plainly looks gorgeous. The only problem with marble is that it is very prone to being slippery and also stains very easily. This will usually end up not making it very ideal for the kitchen but as long as you take care of it, you should be perfectly fine.

Ceramic Tile Flooring

Another great choice, and also probably the most commonly used for the kitchen is ceramic flooring. These tiles have long lasting lives and can put up with spills, moisture and temperature changes very well. Expect to find many different color choices as well.

Kitchens can cost you a lot of time, money and patience so make sure you think everything through before you do it. If this means waiting a few years then do it, don’t rush it as redoing all over again is sometimes not an option.

Solar Deck Step Lights

There are quite a few different ways that you can go about doing in order to light up your yard, or your deck. It can be as simple as just adding a deck light here or there or as complicated as lighting up the whole neighborhood. Ether way there are a few choices that you are going to need to make and you need to know what kinds of deck lights suit your home. In this article I am going to assume that you have decided to use solar powered deck lights to get the job done.

So lets talk about em and see what you need to know…

Why Go Solar?

So the first question you are going to have is why solar deck lights? Well the answer is very simple, they will end up saving you a lot of money in the long run. Think about how long you are going to be using them, probably a long time right? Possibly up to 10 years and maybe even longer for some folks who are happy with where their feet are planted. The amount of cash you will save for having them on each night is going to be unreal so don’t be silly, go solar today!

You may say, well solar lights are not as bright as normal electrical lights, and you may just be right in some instances but bright LED lights have come a long way since they first made their appearance. If you most be certain, go to your store at night and ask to test them out, or see if you can find an image or video on the internet that showcases the exact light that you are interested in.

Installation

When it comes to installing electrical lights, it was generally a pain in the butt, especially if you wanted to make your yard look half decent. Installing wires underground, getting professional help and forking out more money made it a bit of a pain. It got easier as time went by but now its by far the easiest it has ever been. Here is why you want solar deck lights my friend.

The hardest part is going to be about deciding what kind of light you prefer and what kind of glow you want. If you like a low ambient feeling then go for something that will not shine as bright. If you want a light for security and safety reasons so no one takes a bad trip, then get the brightest bad boy you can get on the market.

Solar lights for deck posts come in all shapes and colors. Want to see something really nice? Try going with different colors and then wait for some snow to fall, the glow effect is really a nice sight.

Check out this nice photos of these wonderful lights in action.

when most people think in terms of flooring, the most common type of material that comes to mind is generally wood. Wood flooring comes in all different kinds of styles, colors, species, and types. The two most common types of wood flooring that you will see in the market today are solid wood flooring and engineered wood flooring.

In this article I am going to explain these two different types of flooring so that you can have a better understanding of what type is right for your job you want done.

Solid Wood Flooring

the first type of flooring that you are going to learn about his wood flooring. The first thing that probably comes to mind when you think of this type of flooring is probably a solid piece of wood, and that is basically what this type of flooring is. There are a few different types of thicknesses and solid flooring but you can generally expect to find 3/4″ to 5/6″.

Solid wood flooring is very commonly used because of the fact that it can be refinished multiple times because of how thick is. Solid wood flooring can be installed both on grade or above.

Engineered Wood Flooring

engineered wood flooring is a little different than solid flooring in the first difference is how it is produced. Engineered wood floors are manufactured using layers of different would veneers. The amount that is generally used is anywhere from around 3 to 9 layers of wood. Engineered flooring is also very strong and sturdy because each layer runs in a different direction making it highly persistent to temperature and fluctuations in community.

This type of flooring can be installed both above or below the grade.

Here are some different types of common wood flooring that you may come across as well in your searches.

laminate Wood Flooring

laminate flooring also called floating wood tile in North America is a layered synthetic that is merged together with the lamination process.

Laminate flooring is often preferred by most do-it-yourself homeowners who prefer to do installation by themselves. The tiles themselves are generally installed by clicking them together similar to a puzzle piece.

Most laminate floors need to be kept clean because dust and dirt may scratch the surface in very high-traffic areas. Laminate floors also need to be kept dry or else the planks can warp. All you need to do is make sure that water spills are mostly cleaned up right away and not allowed to sit for long periods of time.

The alternative to laminate flooring would simply be real wood flooring.

Reclaimed Wood Flooring

reclaimed wood is basically any type of wood that has been abandoned or considered waste. Reclaimed hardwood flooring can be made from old antique flooring found in an older building and basically recycled to be brand-new again.

The reason why this type of flooring is very popular is because it is much easier to take something that is old and make it new again instead of waiting for 50 to 100 years for new trees and woods to mature.

As a result it is both cheaper for the manufacture to produce reclaimed flooring and also cheaper for the customer as well.

Ah, painting a house, something that most home owners have to consider if they want their home to look fresh and exciting. Not a tricky or hard thing to do, when you come to think of it, after all everyone is perfectly capable of picking up a brush and throwing some paint on the walls. The real thing to consider when painting a house is more the preparation, time and money saving that you can achieve if you plan it out a little.

Here is my own little mini-guide that you should be able to read over briefly in order to get some ideas rolling in your head on how you should tackle this job. Nothing too complicated but it can be tricky in some circumstances.

The Cost Of Painting a House

Exterior paint averages $25-$40 a gallon and premium paint can be around $50 – $100. You can expect to pay anywhere from $700 to possibly $1000 depending on how big your home is and what type of paint you buy. The better the paint the better it will look so keep that in mind.

Painting a House

For those of you who do not know or are not aware, the main reason as to why anyone would want to paint a house is to basically add real estate value to their home. Some people will do it just so that there house looks better but really ether way you are still adding to the value. It’s cheap, looks good, and is easy to do. If you are someone who likes to buy houses, fix em up, make em look good, then sell them for a decent profit then you might want to work a little bit harder to do a better job.

Interior House Painting

So lets get started shall we? Interior painting is our first stop and this is where you can get creative or just go with the norm. Personally if you are painting for your own interests and not someone else then the sky is the limit. Sure, you can look up helpful color guides and some combinations that look very nice together but in the end your going to be the one who decides what is going to stick and what needs to go out the window.

Try to get a good visualization of what you want your rooms to look like, try to think of the furniture and placements as well when you do this. Fabrics, and furniture will add to a room as well so it is important that you include them.

A Modern approach to painting is to go big and bright while if you wanted an older feel to a home you would go with more dull colors such as black and white.

Another thing to remember about interior painting and how it differs from exterior is how lighting can effect color. As someone who likes to paint, I know that lighting is the number one factor that determines color, because without light there would really be no color.

Exterior House Painting

For painting outside things are a little bit different. For best painting you are going to want to do it in the early fall when it is still warm out but not blazing hot. When it is very warm the weather can have negative effects on a paint job so keep that in mind.

Peeling is a major problem that happens from painting over wet wood or moisture coming out from the inside of the house. Latex primer and paint work well in order to help peeling from occurring.

If you can, try to get paint that dries quickly as low quality paint tends to drip and stay wet for a long. Combine this one a day with high humidity and you can have a nightmare painting.

For some more in-depths on house painting and making sure that you do the best job possible take a look at this website. They offer some really good articles and advice on painting in general.

House Painting Ideas and Pictures

This is a pretty good way about getting some ideas rolling on your head. Just simply take a look at some of these pictures in order to get some house painting ideas.

What is Bamboo Flooring?

Bamboo flooring is often referred to being a green alternative for those who are looking to make their homes seem more natural and environment friendly. Bamboo flooring is generally believed to be very strong and can withstand strong resistance just like the bamboo plant it comes from. The majority of bamboo flooring is made in China and other areas in Asia. The plant itself comes in a variety of different species, “Moso” is the species commonly used for most types of bamboo flooring.

The Look

For those who have never seen what a bamboo floor might look like, a simple Google search will get you the answer but for convinces sake we have also included a picture here for you to take a look at as well. As you might notice right off the bat it almost looks very similar to hardwood flooring.

The Common Look Of Bamboo Wood Flooring

Is It Really Green?

After looking online for related articles about characteristics of bamboo flooring one thing that really popped out was that many people are unaware of how green bamboo flooring really is. It is generally assumed that bamboo flooring is a green alternative and it is most certainly promoted this way but there seems to be some speculation in the air. Lets dig a little deeper and see if we can find out the real answer once and for all.

For starters bamboo itself is highly reusable when you compare it to other types of woods. Generally speaking it can take up to 5 years for the Moso species of Bamboo to reach full maturity. Compare this to most hardwoods that can take 20+ years, you have a pretty good source of wood that is highly reusable.

Another characteristic that is promising is that the carbon footprint for bamboo is very low. It grows quick, allows for rapid reproduction and when harvested can still continue to grow afterwards. So good so far but here is where the speculation starts to begin.

Different Styles Of Bamboo Hardwood Flooring

Some reports are given that suggest that bamboo planting can damage natural forests because of the space required to grow it. For example, when you create a building you need to clear space (usually plants and everything else are demolished in the process). The same thing happens for bamboo fields, but we do not know how many of these fields exist in parts of Asia. On the plus you are growing a plant that allows for green production of flooring but at the same time you are sacrificing part of the earth. If it is met in balance then it works fine, but if these fields start popping up everywhere then the production is not really green is it?

There has also been some talk about the chemicals used in bamboo flooring production and how they can be harmful to the environment. If you want to read more about whether or not bamboo is really green check out this post. It is a little old but it is hard finding coverage on this topic.

Bamboo Flooring Prices

Most bamboo flooring prices are going to be flexible and will obviously vary depending on what and where you buy but you can be sure that it will be cheaper then most others. When it comes to this type of flooring most people are turned on by the price but turned off by the look. Lets face it here, when it comes to picking your home flooring, if you pay more you are going to get a better looking product but do not lose hope.

There are many different styles of bamboo flooring and some of then look pretty decent. Shop and look around, you might just find something that you like or need.

Bamboo Flooring Problems

Now the part that most of you are going to be dreading, the common problems that most people have with bamboo flooring. Luckily there are not that many but you should still be aware of common issues.

Gaps in the flooring is reported by some people especially after changes in seasons and weather

Identification and Resolution problems can happen from production defects as with all flooring and bad installation techniques. If you are worried about it, get the job done by someone who knows what they are doing or watch a how to video (read further for more on that)
