LEGO is a Danish toy manufacturer that has become known with colored plastic blocks. The blocks under the name "LEGO" sold, thus the name refers not only to the manufacturer, but has also become a generic name for the toy.

The manufacturer is the largest toy manufacturer in Europe with a turnover of 11.7 billion Danish kroner (1.57 billion) in 2009. LEGO has now been twice awarded the "Toy of the Century" won.

The LEGO Group is the fifth largest toy manufacturer in the world.

In 1916 Ole Kirk Christiansen began in the Danish town of Billund a woodworking thing. The first years he mainly furniture, but from 1932 he also started to wooden toys and found the name LEGO in use. The name "LEGO" is derived from the Danish words "Leg Godt" (play well). Later it turned out the word in Latin to interpret as "I collect" (also "I choose" or "I read").

After the Second World War it became increasingly popular use of plastic went Christiansen also use this material for his toys. In 1961 the system was extended with wheels. As a result, the opportunities are much greater. LEGO this year was also sold in the United States and Canada.

In 1962, elements introduced the height of which one third was the standard height.

In June of 2005 bought the Blackstone Group, an investment company based in New York City, 70% of the shares of the four parks and brought them under the name of Merlin Entertainments Group. The LEGO Group reserves to date 30% of the shares.

I am excited about the upcoming International Toy Fair in New York City, February 14-17. Just walking through the Javits Center, one feels surrounded by innovative, creative people. Inventors of children’s toys and games have to be incredibly intelligent but also have a child’s whimsy to relate to their market.

Yesterday I was in a wonderful toy and hobby shop in Fairfield, Connecticut, Hobbytown. I explained to Celeste, the knowledgeable employee, that I reviewed children’s media for its language value and asked her about some of the products that I liked–if they sold well and just what was popular among parents who selected toys and games for their kids.I had specifically pointed out International Playthings’ Playdate puppet show. She said that it was a popular item because it met the criteria she sees parents using in selecting toys for their kids:

Kids play independently with the toy.

They can finish the game or pretend play and have a sense of pride in completing something.

The toy or game is interesting to play with over and over as they play with it in a new way.

I will be on the look-out for new games and toys to share with you that meet the above criteria and also build language and pretend play. Have fun:)

Hi:) Touchscreen and computer vision interfaces are slowly starting to replace the traditional game controllers in next generation systems. Today's Wiimote will be tomorrow's joystick. Speaking of joysticks, the guys over at Retro Thing are producing some pretty cool classic Atari-style joysticks using clear plastic and a USB interface. Hi guys, Elmo is getting a new home - or his toys are, at least. Toy maker Hasbro Inc. said Monday it will make and market toys and games based on well-known Sesame Street characters, such as Elmo, Big Bird and Cookie Monster. The deal takes the license away from Hasbro rival Mattel Inc., which makes Sesame Street toys under its Fisher-Price brand under a deal lasting until 2010. Hasbro will start making the products in 2011. Have fun, enjoy:)
