Although I was familiar with Oyster Bay, I had no idea just how popular these brands are globally. Let's look at some of the stats that surprised me....Oyster Bay is the #1 New Zealand wine brand in Canada, the U.K. and in Australia. Additionally, Oyster Bay is the leading New Zealand brand in the U.S. over $10 and the 14th imported wine brand over $10. These are lofty sales rankings and I was anxious to see if the wines could live up to the sales figures.

Upon tasting, I was pleased to find the Oyster Bay Wines I sampled were well balanced, elegant and had a bit of an world style to them. These aren't the brash, envelope-pushing wines I have come to associate with New Zealand, but are very drinkable, should appeal to a large audience and represent an excellent value.

Do yourself a favor and try one of the Oyster Bay Wines today...given the consistency of the portfolio and the very reasonable price...I'm sure you will be happy you did!

VICE PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE - WATCH PARTY & DRINK IDEAS

We had some fun creating and imbibing in our candidate inspired cocktails on Super Tuesday, so we decided to offer up the same type of Viewing Party ideas for the Debates. Instead of selecting the first Presidential Debate; however, we decided to plan our party for the Vice Presidential Debate on October 2nd. The VP Debate is going to be a combination of lecture, rock show and sporting event...and is definitely going to be must see TV! I think the only way to make your viewing of this evening any better...is to make your own event out of it. So don't be bashful, hold your own Debate Viewing Party--invite your friends, no matter what their political affiliation, (differing views may make the evening more entertaining) and serve up and enjoy some of the beers and cocktails we've created and/or recommended especially for these two Vice Presidential Candidates.

Alright, enough with the commentary, there will be plenty of that on the night of the Debate, so let's get to the fun:

BREWIN' UP SOME VOTER SUPPORT :
An easy way to kick-off your Debate Soiree' is to serve up beers that hail from the two nominee's states. And, it just so happens that we have two very good beers that make fine representatives for their States and Candidates.

Gov. Sarah Palin's Brew: Alaskan Amber Ale
One of the more popular beers in the Northwest, Alaskan Amber is a moderate brew with its maltiness and hop character offset by a bit of sweetness on the finish. This is a well balanced beer and if Gov. Palin appears as well balanced on the issues during the Debate, she will appeal to a very large audience.

Sen. Joe Biden's Brew: Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA
This Delaware brewery is one of the most heralded of all American craft breweries. Dogfish Head beers are bold, flavorful and loaded with hop character. Sen. Biden has a reputation as a fighter and if he is as assertive in the debate as this beer, Gov. Palin may not stand a chance.

Candidate Cocktails:
As you might imagine, the Campaigns and Candidates have provided us with no shortage of ideas or material for conjuring up some interesting cocktails. The only problem we faced was trying to narrow our selections from the seemingly endless ideas that were pouring forth. So after a great deal of sampling and a little bit of polling, here are our selections:

GOV. PALIN COCKTAILS:

THE ALASKAN PIPELINE
Gov Palin championed a $40 Billion natural gas pipeline in AK and even though it will be years before the pipeline is operational, you can salute Gov Palin's success and prime the pump for her with this flavorful and quintessentially Alaskan drink.
1/2 oz Yukon Jack Canadian Whisky
1/2 oz Amaretto
Shake with ice and serve in a shot glass.

THE BARRACUDA'S BITE
Known for her determination and feisty nature, Gov. Palin has earned the nickname of Barracuda. Try one of these and see for yourself if her bark during the debate is truly worse than her 'Bite.'
1 1/2 oz 151 proof Cruzan Rum
1 1/2 oz Skyy Vodka
1/2 oz grenadine syrup
1/2 oz lime juice
Pour over ice and serve in a tall glass.

THE FLYOVER

It's comforting to know that when Putin rears his ugly head and flies over the U.S., that Gov. Palin is on the lookout from her front porch. With an ice cold glass of one of America's finest vodkas in one hand and flipping him the eagle (Republicans version of flipping a bird) with the other.

1 1/2 oz Hangar One Vodka

Shake with ice and pour

SENATOR BIDEN'S COCKTAILS:

DEL-MAR-VA COCKTAIL
Named after the Tri-State Region of Delaware, Maryland and Virginia that Joe Biden calls home. This cocktail is classy and sophisticated, but still retains a bit of rye grittiness.
2 ounces straight Jim Beam Rye Whiskey
1/2 ounce dry vermouth
1/2 ounce white crème de cacao
1/2 ounce fresh lemon juice
1 fresh mint leaf, for garnish
Shake with ice and serve in a martini glass.

NOT YOUR AVERAGE JOE
Born into a middle class family in Scranton, PA, Senator Biden has faced a great deal of adversity in his life. This champion of the working class has met and overcome these hurdles with class and integrity. We salute his long service in the Senate with this smooth and far better-than-average coffee cocktail.
1 Cup of Coffee
1 oz Kahlua
1/2 oz Navan Vanilla Brandy
Whipped Cream to Taste

BIPARTISAN COCKTAILS

LIPSTICK ON A PIG COCKTAIL #1
This drink should not offend anyone as it surely needs no lipstick to look, sound or taste any better.
2/3 oz Nuvo Sparkling Vodka
2/3 oz Creme de Banana
1/2 oz Cream
1 oz Grenadine
Shake with ice and serve in a martini glass. Rim the glass with Stirrings Cosmo Rimmer.

LIPSTICK ON A PIG COCKTAIL #2
If you get real serious about serving a true Lipstick on a Pig, then try infusing some bacon (No, I'm not kidding) into a bottle of vodka (This process takes about 10 days) and then use it to make a Bloody Mary. If anyone actually wants to try this, there are lots of directions on infusing vodka that you can Google, or just email me and I will send you my recipe.

THE BRIDGE TO NOWHERE COCKTAIL
Do not say, "Thanks, but No Thanks," to this tasty creation. After a few of these you won't know where you are going or why you were going there, but the trip will be fun!
2 oz Blue Curacao liqueur
1/2 oz Citron Vodka
1/2 oz Bombay Sapphire Gin
1/2 oz Bacardi Light rum
Serve over ice and fill the remainder of glass with lemon-lime soda

"INSERT YOUR NAME HERE" BLACKBERRY COCKTAIL
Now you too can invent the Blackberry! Start with Stoli Blackberry Vodka and add your very own combination of mixers, blackberry brandy, garnishes, etc...When complete, make sure to raise your glass and loudly proclaim to anyone that will listen, "I did this!"
1 oz Stoli Blackberry Vodka
1/2 oz Blackberry Brandy
Various Mixers

PARTY (DRINKING) GAMES
If you want to add a little extra fun and frivolity to your festivities, you can add a drinking game or two to your party platform. You know how these work, every time a candidate says or does a particular agreed upon word or act during the debate...the players have to drink. So we are going to divide this game up along party lines and discover just how much your guests support their candidates.

GOV. PALIN SUPPORTERS
Must Take a Drink:
-Each time Gov. Palin raises or points her right index finger

-Each time Gov. Palin uses the word, "Reform"

SEN. BIDEN SUPPORTERS
Must Take A Drink:
-Each time Sen. Biden uses the word, "Change"

-Each time 'Smilin Joe' is shown smiling while Gov Palin is talking

ALL PLAYERS
Must Take a Shot:
-If a candidate says, "Thanks, but No Thanks"

-If a candidate has the nerve to say, "Lipstick on a Pig"

THE MORNING AFTER
Just as we suggested on Super Tuesday...if you wake up the following morning with a headache and a little fuzzy on what actually transpired during the Debate, turn into Morning Joe, as I do each morning. Be sure to crank up the volume so you can enjoy the music they play going into breaks, and watch Joe, Mika, Willie and hopefully Pat break down the events of the night before. And, if needed to alleviate that headache you're sure to have, we naturally have a few elixirs for you to nurse yourself back to health with while enjoying the show.

JOE'S SOCO CHARM
No matter what your party affiliation, it's hard to not like this guy! So in honor of the amiable host, add a shot of Southern Comfort to your java for a no nonsense way to give a nod to Joe's southern roots and get some caffeine into your system.
1 Cup Coffee
1 oz Southern Comfort

WILLIE'S JAGERGEISTER a.k.a. THE SHOT HEARD 'ROUND THE WORLD
After your Debate Party last night, this is news you can definitely use! Drop a shot glass of Jagermeister into this Vitamin B laden Smoothie and you will not only be hangin' with the cool kids, but you will be well on your way to recovery. (Note: I believe this is the first time on record that a Vandy grad has been associated with being cool.)
1 oz Jager
4 oz Odwalla 'B Monster' Blueberry Smoothie

THE FLEUR DE BRZEZINSKI a.k.a. Huh...really???

Okay, they did go over some financial information and results for the first quarter...which were what I would call, ho-hum. Although ho-hum isn't great, Trump Vodka depletion's grew 12%, ho-hum is a lot better than disastrous.

And, as I had touched on in my preview, they too stated that one of the real positives for the quarter was that they were still here.

As far as some of the info I wanted to hear, like: Dr. Dre's Cognac release date; the Company's working capital outlook; how Drinks would finance the purchase of Olifant; and any positive surprises...well, these will all have to wait until next week...in fact let's give them to the end of the month to pull together what else they have to tell us.

A few items Drinks did mention was that they thought they would have access to increased financial resources without incurring any further dilution; they also stated they they couldn't talk about timing of one of their iconic brands due to a loss the icon has recently suffered. I imagine this was in regards to Dr. Dre and is 100% understandable at this point in time. It was also alluded to that during this next expected conference call that they would be releasing the details of their next iconic partnership and brand. The question was even asked if this icon might be Kid Rock, but nothing was confirmed one way or the other. I find this a little interesting since I believe I was the first person to throw the idea of Kid Rock Whiskey out there in my post of Nov 9 2007. Kid Rock Whiskey makes a great deal of sense and would be an interesting product that would garner a great deal of media attention, but I'm still not sure that Kid is in the Universal stable of artists that they are negotiating with. I guess we will find out soon enough.

Okay here is some additional information that I felt compelled to add to this post after it had already been published. First, it seems that Drinks has filed a trademark for 'Rock Red.' Could this be a Kid Rock inspired iconic brew??? Again, hopefully we will no more next week.

And on a disturbing note, I just had a chance to look at the financial statements the Company filed for the first quarter and the balance sheet is not pretty. Aside from a 2:1 current liabilities to current assets ratio...which is just backwards of what it should be...the Company had $13,969 in cash and cash equivalents as of July 31, 2008. That's right, $13,969. The Company began the quarter with $133,402 in cash and ended with $13,969 in cash...meaning they incurred a cash outflow for the quarter of $119,433...or about $9,500 a week. So I wonder what they did for cash beginning August 10 and I wonder what would happen if Mr. Kenny decides to cease loaning the Company money???

I will offer up more on Drinks following their next update...

Drinks Americas First Quarter Update on the Way

So one can go back to my previous posts and see that I have been following Drinks Americas, the marketer of Trump Vodka, for some time. My last post was in January; however, and I have been hesitant to write anything more about the Company because I just haven't had anything good to say. I also thought I should allow this young company an opportunity to execute their business plan and see what they could accomplish. With a conference call coming today from the Company to announce their 1st quarter results, I thought it was time to revisit Drinks and see where they are at.

So it has been over seven months since my last post and here are some highlights of what Drinks has accomplished over this period. They have rolled out their Tump Flavored Vodkas; they have commenced, I think, selling Trump Vodka in the Soviet Union; they have announced the upcoming release of their next icon product, Dr Dre's Cognac; they just announced the signing of a letter of intent to purchase Olifant Vodka; their common stock has traded mostly in the $.20-$.40 range and finally and certainly most importantly, they have stayed in business.

So what will myself and many others be expecting to hear and be looking for as far as guidance from the Company. In a word...results. Fellows it's time to start delivering! I'm not talking about being profitable...I don't expect that from some time; nor do I expect to hear that sales of Trump Flavors or Willie Nelson Bourbon have far exceeded expectations. What I do need to hear is that the Drinks business model can still work and that the Company has the wherewith all to execute it.

Specifically I will be interested to hear if their delays in the Russian market have been solved and just how many cases Drinks has sold there. I want to know when Dr. Dre's Cognac will hit the market. With a Company that has been known for delays or at the least, vastly underestimating roll out times, I don't want to hear that it will be available in a few months...or sometime in the third quarter, I want to hear a release date. I want to know their cash position. My major concern for this Company in the past has always been a shortage of working capital...which management has repeatedly stated over the past six months is not a concern...so I will be interested to to hear what their cash and current receivables look like and how they will continue to finance what I fully believe will be their ongoing deficit. I also would like to know what the odds of this letter of intent with Olifant actually being completed are and if this purchase is consummated, how the Company plans to pay for it. And lastly, it would be nice to hear a pleasant surprise or two, because right now I'm not very confident in this Company's long term prospects.

So check back later today and I will update the progress Drinks has made and hopefully be able to pass on some wonderful news from the Company.

Firefly Vodka is Lighting Up the South!

A South Carolina distillery has come up with a sweet tea infused vodka that is proving to be very popular in the South. For years sweet tea has been a staple in most southern homes and restaurants and now Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka is expanding the reach of sweet tea from lunch and dinner tables to include bars and Happy Hours.

As a proponent of the idea of geographic beverages, I was anxious to try Firefly and was pleased to learn it had become available in FL. I do feel the need to pause; however, and preface the remainder of this review by stating that even though I resided in GA for several years, I am not a big fan of sweet tea. That being said, I did find the vodka to be very tasty and, as advertised, when poured over ice with a little water, it very much resembled sweet tea...I can certainly understand the appeal. When you add the fact that the tea that is used for flavoring comes from a Charleston Tea Plantation, you've got a great local story and package.

Firefly is currently distributed in South Carolina, Georgia, New York, Colorado and Florida...with more expansion in the works.

The Miracle Berry Experience

While doing some fruit and berry research earlier this summer I began to read more and more articles about the Miracle or Magic Berry. Names like that are pretty intriguing and I needed to find out just what was so miraculous about this berry. Well what I discovered did seem to have an air of magic to it, a sleight of tongue perhaps...in short, for the next hour after eating a miracle berry, any bitter or sour foods you eat will taste sweet. Here is an excerpt from the Wikipedia listing:

"The Miracle Fruit plant (Synsepalum dulcificum) produces berries that, when eaten, cause bitter and sour foods (such as lemons and limes) consumed later to taste sweet. The berry, also known as Miracle Berry, Magic Berry, or Flavor Berry[2][3], was first documented by explorer Chevalier des Marchais[4] during a 1725 excursion to its native West Africa. Marchais noticed that local tribes picked the berry from shrubs and chewed it before meals...The berry contains an active glycoprotein molecule, with some trailing carbohydrate chains, called miraculin.[5][6] When the fleshy part of the fruit is eaten, this molecule binds to the tongue's taste buds, causing bitter and sour foods to taste sweet. While the exact cause for this change is unknown, one hypothesis is that the effect may be caused if miraculin works by distorting the shape of sweetness receptors "so that they become responsive to acids, instead of sugar and other sweet things."

It seemed that as the Miracle Berry became more well known, Miracle Berry or 'flavor tripping' parties were popping up across the U.S. and England. Guests at these parties would eat a berry and then eat anything from lemons and limes to vinegar and goat cheese.Naturally I had to try these berries for myself and began a month-long search to find a berry supplier. Many paths turned into dead-ends along the way, but I finally a found a grower who overnighted a container of just-picked berries to me. Because the berries do not last for over a day or two after picking, I quickly gathered some people together and we set out to sample the berries and the odd assortment of sour and bitter fare we had assembled. The berries themselves didn't have much taste and after eating one I did not notice any change that had occurred...until I ate a slice of lime, that is. Instead of the sour notes I was expecting, this was the sweetest, most wonderful lime I had ever tasted. It tasted completely natural, but like it was brimming with natural sweeteners. It was amazing...and the other guests were not only amazed, but also ravenous. From fruits and cheeses to bitter beers--the gathering dove into the food and drink like they hadn't eaten in days. I don't know if it was a chemical or psychological affect, but there was certainly a feeling of euphoria that permeated the crowd...a food orgy so to speak. As stated, after about an hour the effects began to wear off and the gathering began to discuss their favorites and individual experiences. My favorite happened to be a granny smith apple that tasted like the most succulent apple to ever grace the face of the earth. I also enjoyed a fine IPA that lost its hop bitterness but maintained a depth of flavor that was not overwhelmed by the sweetness imparted by the berry. So there you have it, my Miracle Berry experience. I have not tried them again since the party, but I'm sure I will. In fact, I am presently trying to purchase some Miracle Berry powder, to see if this works as well as the berries.

So if you're feeling adventurous and up for a unique, but perfectly legal experience...gather some friends, break out your Tye-dyed apparel, your Jimi Hendrix Cd's, a black light or two, a bag of Miracle Berries and a buffet of bitter and sour food and drink and let your flavor trip begin...Here is a link to a reputable supplier: http://www.miraclefruitman.com/

Voss Water Update

A representative from Voss water contacted me and gave the following statement regarding the recall, "We can confirm that Starwood has issued a recall of Voss 800ml Still products only, due to an isolated incident. Having the Absolut brand in limbo like that was affecting not only Absolut, but also Cruzan, Stoli and several of Fortune's other brands, not to mention the wholesale distributor's of these products. The marketing of these products had virtually reached a standstill, as no one was willing to commit dollars to support a brand where they were not guaranteed to receive the full benefit of the dollars they were committing.

With the agreement in place and the deal finally settled, perhaps we can get back to a bit or normalcy.

Voss Water Recall

An incident at a 'W' Hotel prompted Starwood Hotels to have Voss Water issue a recall to Starwood for all of their 800ml 'still' water glass bottles. The Company is further stating that they will be offering a full refund on any potentially affected product, so I would recommend at this time setting aside any of this product instead of simply disposing of it as Boston Brewing has advised.

CHAMPIONSHIP GAME COCKTAILS

With just 2 teams remaining for tonight's Championship Game, we are now left with serving the Kansas Cooler for the Jayhawk Fans and the Memphis Blues for the Tiger faithful. As a reminder, these concoctions are:

KANSAS COOLER
1 oz Jim Beam Black
1 oz Amaretto
and Cola

MEMPHIS BLUES
1 oz Absolut Vodka
1 oz Blue Curacao
Triple Sec
A Squeeze of Lime

Championship Game Prediction:

Although I'm a big Beam fan, the combination of Derrick Rose and Chris Douglas-Roberts finish as smooth as the Memphis Blues cocktail that was created in their honor. Well, their distributors have secured so many placements and the beer is selling through so well, that A/B has found themselves short on cooperage...at least the 1/6 bbl kegs that were planned for Shock Top. Several times over the past month A/B has had to cut short their distributor's orders because they didn't have the sufficient inventory of 1/6 bbl kegs available. Knowing A/B, this situation will be quickly rectified, but it's amazing that this beer has sold so well that it has placed them in this position in the first place. I'd say A/B has a tremendous winner on their hands with Shock Top and this could signal a monumental happening in the beer world as this would be A/B's first truly successful craft or specialty beer.

ABSOLUT L.A. IS ON THE WAY

In what appears to be an 'Absolute' scoop, I have learned that Absolut's next city inspired vodka will be Absolut L.A. Following up on its success with its first city inspired brand, Absolut New Orleans, this new limited edition release will be available early to mid summer.

The flavor profile of this new concoction will be a berry blend of pomegranate, acai and other berries. Although I was a huge fan of Absolut New Orleans, the Company hopes this blend will have even broader appeal than what their New Orleans Vodka enjoyed.

As for the label, expect it to be a bit more involved than the unique, but minimalist New Orleans design.

So will this be another home run for the Absolut folks? It might be tough to duplicate the success of Absolut New Orleans, but I would be talking to my local liquor purveyor or Absolut distributor as soon as possible in order to ensure availability.

<link rel="alternate" type="text/html" href="http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/EatDrinkBeMerry-foodBeverageNewsAndReviews/~3/zBfi9ASl4QQ/absolut-la-is-on-way.html" title="ABSOLUT L.A. Voting lasted six days and was relatively close throughout, with Shock Top finishing on top by a 52.7% to 47.3% margin. Although these Beer Battles are just for fun and meant only to be popularity contests...not scientific studies, it still is surprising that this brand new beer was able to stay with and ultimately knock off the far more established Blue Moon.

What this seems to suggest is that while Blue Moon is a commercially successful beer for Coors, this is due in greater part to the consumers acceptance of the flavor profile than it is to the branding of the beer. This has to be considered a concern for Blue Moon and Coors might look to update its packaging and marketing strategy in order to better capture some brand loyalty while Blue Moon is still outselling Shock Top. Anheuser Busch, on the other hand, must be very pleased with this situation and I look for them to continue to aggressively roll out this product.

I thank everyone who voted in this Battle of the Beers and please check back often for our next beverage battle!

Vote Today - Shock Top vs Blue Moon

Today, February 19th, is your last chance to vote in our Shock Top vs Blue Moon battle. In our polling, which we hope will shed some light on the public's favorite orange beer, Shock Top has maintained a small, but consistent lead over the popular Coors entry. With just about twelve hours left in the voting, we will see if the Blue Moon drinkers show up to support their brand or if Shock Top will continue its growing momentum by outpointing its rival...

Support your favorite beer and cast your vote today...polling ends tonight at 9:00 pm EST.

Shock Top vs Blue Moon - Vote for your Favorite Beer Today!

In a new series that we are debuting today, we will be pitting beer against beer in head-to-head battles to decide the most popular, not the best selling, beers on the market. Winners will be determined by the number of votes they receive from visitors to our site.

In our first match, we're featuring two of the hottest beers on the market from two of the largest breweries in the world. Coors' Blue Moon and Anheuser Busch's Shock Top will square off in an epic orange beer battle...or battle of wits, if you will.

We've talked about these beers in the past and the battle that they're waging in bars and stores all across the country...now we're going to open up the voting to see what all of you think of these beers.

Released in 1995, Blue Moon has a decided edge in longevity against the upstart Shock Top, but Shock Top is pulling away draught handles from Blue Moon at an alarming rate. So let's get to it and discover which of these beers is really more popular and perhaps this outcome will provide some indication as to which of these beers will ultimately prevail in the marketplace.

Voting begins in this battle at 9:00 pm EST on Wednesday February 13 and will conclude at 9:00 pm EST on Tuesday February 19...our own version of Super Tuesday.

So what are you waiting for, support your favorite beer or brewery with a vote today...may the best beer win!

For more information on these beers check out the following links:

Blue Moon: http://www.coors.com/main.asp
Shock Top: http://www.anheuser-busch.com/PDF/ShockTopBelgianWhite.pdf

Super Tuesday Recap - Barack's HOPE Prevails

Super Tuesday...what a great night in American Politics and isn't it fantastic to see the interest and support Americans are giving this election and the candidates? And isn't it also refreshing as a voter to be provided such great candidates to select from? I know when I'm paying $3.00 a gallon for gas or hearing about another suicide bomber attack, it certainly lifts my spirit to think about our current Presidential Candidates and the fact that one of these individuals will be leading our country within a year. So no matter what candidate your backing, enjoy the process, continue to stay involved and enjoy the show...I believe this election and perhaps even more importantly, the participation of the American public in it, is what our founding fathers had in mind.

I'd like to thank everyone who stopped by to support their candidate with a vote in our fun, little Super Tuesday poll. The participation was fantastic and I hope everyone had some fun with it and enjoyed any of the cocktails they tried.

Alhough this was just a fun poll, we did see some interesting information come out of the vote. First, although the Republican Cocktails trailed the Democatic offerings by a wide margin in voting, it was surprising to see how well the Hucka B-52 did. To then see these results echoed in the real elections was quite a shock. Next, it was remarkable at the disparity in voting between Hillary Clinton and the Republicans...and then again between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. What I discern from this is that the public is much more interested in the Democratic Race and candidates, than they are the Republicans. And even further, I think that although both Clinton and Obama have tremendous backing and support from their followers, I believe the passion of the Obama followers is unmatched. I think that if supporters of the candidates heard of this little poll, most didn't feel compelled to place a vote in a, 'candidate cocktail poll.' In contrast, it seems as if Obama supporters not only went out of their way to place a vote but also to insure that Barack won this inconsequential little vote. They didn't want Barack to just win all of the primaries on Super Tuesday...they wanted him to win every possible vote...even this one. As this neck and neck race Between Obama and Clinton unfolds I would not be surprised if the candidate with the most ardent and passionate supporters wins the nomination...if this vote is any indication, at this time that candidate is Barack Obama!

ALCOHOL GUIDE

I get sent many alcohol related jokes, but I thought this one was exceptionally funny...I hope you enjoy!

ALCOHOL TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE

Symptom: Feet cold and wet.
Fault: Glass being held at incorrect angle.
Action: Rotate glass so that open end points toward ceiling.

Symptom: Feet warm and wet.
Fault: Improper bladder control.
Action: Stand next to nearest dog, complain about house training.

Sympton: Drink unusually pale and tasteless.
Fault: Glass empty.
Action: Get someone to buy you another drink.

Symptom: Opposite wall covered with fluorescent lights.
Fault: You have fallen over backward.
Action: Have yourself lashed to bar.

Symptom: Mouth contains cigarette butts.
Fault: You have fallen forward.
Action: See above.

Symptom: Alcohol tasteless, front of your shirt is wet.
Fault: Mouth not open, or glass applied to wrong part of face.
Action: Retire to restroom, practice in mirror.

Symptom: Floor blurred.
Fault: You are looking through bottom of empty glass.
Action: Get someone to buy you another drink.

Symptom: Floor moving.
Fault: You are being carried out.
Action: Find out if you are being taken to another bar.

Symptom: Room seems unusually dark.
Fault: Bar has closed.
Action: Confirm home address with bartender.

Symptom: Taxi suddenly takes on colourful aspect and textures.
Fault: Alcohol consumption has exceeded personal limitations.
Action: Cover mouth.

Symptom: Everyone looks up to you and smiles.
Fault: You are dancing on the table.
Action: Fall on somebody cushy-looking.

Symptom: Drink is crystal-clear.
Fault: It's water. We have seen a bit of life in the Clinton camp, however; and there is still plenty of time for Clinton backers to stage a comeback. Will this large lead hold up and will this be the tone for all of the Super Tuesday results...or will Hillary close the gap and is this race as tight as the pundits predict???

The Republicans meanwhile remain well behind the Democrats in total votes, but the margin between the Republican candidates is slim and this race should go down to the wire. Current results have Huckabee and McCain battling it out for first with Romney and Ron Paul a close third and fourth respectively.

No matter what State you reside in or what your political affiliation--you can support your favorite candidate with a vote now at http://drinksfoodandfun.blogspot.com/

Super Tuesday Drink & Party Guide

This year’s Presidential Race is creating more excitement, garnering more interest in the general population, and attracting a greater number of younger participants than any election in recent memory. From our nation's cumulative desire for change, to the diversity of the candidates and the quantity and depth of the media coverage, this election has captivated our country and has us riveted on the outcome.

While the candidates are gearing up for a momentous day on Tuesday, February 5, unprecedented numbers of individuals, bars and restaurants are gearing up for the big day in their own way--by planning Super Tuesday election viewing parties at their homes and businesses. So while the Super Bowl takes place on Sunday, the real partying this week may not end until late in the evening on Tuesday.

If you are planning on hosting your own Super Tuesday Soiree' I have compiled a list of 'Candidate Inspired' cocktails to help you with the fun and festivities. These cocktails are fun, flavorful and will get everyone in the election spirit. They will offer party goers the opportunity to show their support and political preference by ordering the cocktail inspired by their favorite candidate. If you're an Obama fan, for example, you can help show your support by having a Barack's HOPE cocktail...while McCain backers can hop on the Straight Talk Espresso Martini. We even have cocktails inspired by some of the political commentators we will be watching that evening and even cocktails for an individual or two that's not declared or no longer in the running.

So without further ado, here are the Candidate Cocktails:

THE DEMOCRATS:

BARACK'S HOPE
Hope, inspiration and unity are not only key components of Senator Obama’s campaign, but also vitally important ideals that Senator Obama has already begun to bring back to a country that found itself in dire need of a little spirit. Made with Hangar One Vodka and Pear Eau-de-vie, this tasteful and refined martini is sure to unite everyone in agreement on its great taste and inspire all to believe…Yes We Can!

1 1/2 oz Hangar One Vodka
3/4 oz St. George Spirits Pear Eau-de-vie

HILLARY'S HILLBLAZERS
Hillary has spent a lifetime in public service to her country. Over the course of her service she has been an advocate and a champion of the middle class, civil rights, children, mothers and many more causes and people in need. We salute her service with a drink we created and named for her young supporters, the Hillblazers.

1 oz Grey Goose Vodka
1/2 oz Rose's Lime Juice
1/2 oz Chambord Raspberry Liqueur
1/2 oz Peach Schnapps

THE REPUBLICANS:

Straight Talk Espresso Martini
Through all manner of difficulties in his life, Senator John McCain has been steadfast in his beliefs and his desire to communicate them. While other candidates have come and gone, McCain continues to deliver his honorable and singular message via his Straight Talk Express. We honor the commitment and ideals of this American hero with our Signature Martini, the Straight Talk Espresso. Made with chilled Van Gogh Espresso Vodka, Kahlua and white creme de cacao and served with a coffee bean garnish in a martini glass with a sugared rim. All Aboard!

1 1/2 oz VanGogh Espresso Vodka
1 1/2 oz Kahlua Coffee Liqueur
1 oz White Creme de Cacao

HUCKA B-52
Governor Huckabee continues to surprise in this campaign not only with his strong showing, but also with twists like entertaining us with his musical talents. If he decides at some point to get out of politics, perhaps the B-52's will come calling...although wouldn't 'Love Shack' seem more appropriate coming from another former Arkansas Governor???

1 oz Grand Marnier Orange Liqueur
3/4 oz Kahlua Coffee Liqueur
1/2 oz Bailey's Irish cream

THE JAW
When America first met Governor Romney, they were immediately taken by his strong jaw and what is aptly described as his Presidential good looks. As the country has gotten to know Governor Romney, they have pleasantly discovered that behind his good looks is a man of even greater substance, strong beliefs and wonderful values. Mitt has not only the jaw, but the shoulders and the head to be a great leader of our country. In recognition of his strong character we created the refreshing cocktail, The Jaw...

1 oz Grenadine Syrup
3 oz Captain Morgan Spiced Rum
2 oz Southern Comfort Peach Liqueur
12 oz Ginger Ale

Ron Paul's Freedom Call
Ron has a strong and independent voice that has struck a chord with conservatives and liberals alike. He is the leading advocate for limited government and person freedom amongst the candidates. In honor of Congressmen Paul's belief's we created a red, white and blue masterpiece.

1/2 oz Grenadine Syrup
1/2 oz Vodka
1/2 oz Blue Curacao liqueur
Layer in order given and pour into a shot glass.

THE COMMENTATORS:

OLBERMANN'S WORST HANGOVER IN THE WORLD!
Keith informs and entertains the country nightly with his commentary and wit. His jokes and bits will seem even funnier after a few of these.

1 Tbsp creme de cacao
1 1/2 oz Vodka
2 Tbsp Cream
1/2 Banana
1 Tsp Sugar

THE HARDBALL HIGH BALL
Nobody loves politics more or knows politics better than Chris Matthews. Chris is a sophisticated, well-educated political commentator with a big heart and a boyish enthusiasm for the subject he loves...politics. We toast him with a Hardball Hi-Ball.

1 1/2 oz Crown Royal Whiskey
Fill With Ginger Ale

RUSSERT'S IRISH EYES
This affable Buffalo Bills fan has no problem turning on the heat and asking the tough questions when needed. In honor of his Irish Heritage we'll serve up one of Ireland's finest...

1 1/2 oz Middleton Irish Whisky

HANNITY'S IRISH CARBOMB
This skilled communicator must have been the star of his school debate teams. His explosive nature always keeps things interesting and so for Sean we offer up Hannity's Carbomb.

3/4 Pint Guinness Irish Stout
1/2 Shot Baileys Irish Cream
1/2 Shot Jameson's Irish Whisky

COULTER'S GRATEFUL DEAD
Ann Coulter is a tall, attractive blond has never met a liberal she can't insult. In honor of her surprising taste in music, yes she's a Dead-Head, we'll serve up a Grateful Dead for Ms. Right. Note the liberal use of alcohol in this drink.

1 part Tequila
1 part Vodka
1 part Light Rum
1 part Gin
1 part Chambord Raspberry Liqueur

THE UNDECLARED OR PREVIOUS CANDIDATES:
CAROLINA DREAMS
Senator Edwards harbors a dream that was borne in his youth in his home State of North Carolina. This dream begins and ends with everyone in the United States, regardless of their economic standing, being afforded the opportunity to chase, fulfill and live their own American Dream. We created this cocktail as a thank you for the vision, efforts and beliefs of the entire Edwards family...our thoughts and dreams are with you!

1 oz Peach Schnapps
1 oz Blue Curacao Liqueur
6 oz 7-Up Soda
1 oz Almond Extract
1 oz Raspberry Syrup

GORE'S GLOBAL WARMER

Al has bounced back in remarkable fashion to make a tremendous impact on the U.S. and the World. If only too many of these cocktails was the true cause of the warming.

1 Part Jagermeister
1 Part Bacardi 151
1 Part Peppermint Schnapps

HOWARD'S BRAIN HEMORRHAGE

Governor Dean was well on his way to a successful campaign in 2004 until...well, he lost it for a few seconds. "I'm going to have one of the these drinks, and then I'm going to have another drink, and then I'm going to have another and then I'm going to give my speech...yeowwwww!!!"
