DIY Glitter Nail Polish

Here's a tutorial on how to turn any nail polish into a "glitter" nail polish.

This is super quick to do and the result is exactly like the glitter nail polish that you'd get at the stores.

What you'll need for this project...

1. Nail polish (it can be clear or color)

2. Glitters (these are very inexpensive and they're available at any craft stores, Target, Walmart...etc. If you're worry about oxidation or the color of the glitter being faded, you can always get nail art glitter. They're also very inexpensive)

3. A piece of white paper

1. Take your piece of paper and fold it several times like so...

2. Wrap the two ends together and leave a small opening at the tip to form a funnel

3. Pour glitters in the nail polish through the funnel

4. Shake up the bottle.....then voila!!! You'll get a beautiful new glitter nail polish...

DIY Suede Leather Ring

I'm so into DIY stuffs lately and while I was browsing online for inspirations, I came across this blog which has a really cool tutorial on how to make a leather ring. It seems easy enough for me and the best part is I already have all the materials needed in my modest craft collection :)

So here's how I made the ring in less than 10 minutes.

Gather all the stuffs needed...

1. Wire

2. Suede leather straps

3. A plier

4. A highlighter or a cylinder object that is about the size of your ring finger. It doesn't have to be exact since you can manipulate the size by pulling the wire together later.

I took the wire and wrap it around the highlighter several times like so...

Trim off the excess length that you don't want...

I don't like sharp edges, so I wrapped both sharp ends against the loop (I think that's what you'd called it) hehe

Take the suede leather and loop it/alternate between the wire...

Once the wire is all covered, cut off the leather strand, then tuck the end of the strand in to hide the discontinue part.

Finished.....very unqiue and cute....I'm liking it :)

Nail Art Tutorial: Purple with Yellow Stripes

Step 1. Apply a base coat to your nails, wait till all the nails are dried then paint with a purple nail polish

Step 2. Place french tip guides on your nails. If you don't have french tip guides available, you can use clear tap or reinforcement labels (example see: my polka dot cupcake nail tutorial)

Step 3: Paint one or 2 layers of yellow polish onto your tips

Step 4: Use yellow nail strip sticker to create stripes. If you don't have the nail strip available, use a brush and draw the stripes

Cut the strips into small pieces

Place the strips onto your nails

Finished Look....

Hair Tutorial: Trendy Retro Braids

This is a requested hair tutorial by some of you after seeing the pictures I posted. The braiding techniques of this hairstyle are pretty simple as I've done so in some of my other tutorials. Although, the hairstyle is quite simple and easy to do, it can be a bit tiring if you're not use to braiding your hair. Practice makes perfect. Hope you guys like it :)

Half Moon Polka Dots Nail Arts Tutorial

What you'll need:

-Nail straightener or base coat

-Top coat

-Several nail polishes (your choice of colors)

-Reinforcement labels

-Nail Art Pearls

-Nail Art dotting tool

-Toothpicks

Step 1:

Cut the reinforcement labels in half

Step 2:

Paint your nails with a color of your choice...this color will be the half moon. I chose white for this...

After your nails are dried, place the pre-cut reinforcement labels onto your nails to create a half moon look...

Step 3:

Now paint your nails again with several different colors of your choice...

Step 4:

After the colors are dried, use the dotting tools to create polka dots then peel off the reinforcement labels...

Step 5:

Lightly brush a layer of clear nail polish onto the outline of the half moon. Use a toothpick, dip it into clear nail polish then pick up the nail art pearls and place it on the line/outline of the half moon...

Finished look :)

Nail Art Tutorial: Gradient Sponge Technique

I love things that are so easy to do yet, it looks like you spent a great amount of time doing it. Don't you? One great example is this nail sponge technique. It's great for those who have little time to spare yet, still want great looking nails :))

What you'll need:
-A sponge (art sponge, paint sponge, makeup sponge....etc).
-Nail polishes - several colors of your choice
-Top coat & base coat
-Acetone
-A small plate to place the polish on (optional....you can apply the polish directly to your nails)
-Q-tips

Step 1: Apply base coat onto your nails. Let them dry.
Step 2: Place the nail polishes on the plate in any combination/direction you like....

Step 2: Use the sponge to pick up the nail polish then apply it onto your nail one at a time. OR you can apply the nail polish directly onto your nail then gently press the sponge against it to create a gradient look...

Step 3: Take a Q-Tip, dip it into acetone then use it to clean any polishes that are outside the nails....finish off with a layer of top coat.

Here's my result. Simple, Quick and Easy! Love it :)

Where Did My Summer Go?

Before I knew it, summer is almost gone? There are still so many things I wanted to do like go jump off from an airplane, walking inside a waterball, sightseeing on a hot air balloon....yikes! if you haven't notice, they're stuffs that gotta do with height and water....my two biggest FEAR! hate them and I want to conquer them. hehe

anyway,

I can't do any of the above right now.....because.....

I'm trying out a new lightening product on my skin (mainly for acne scars/brown spots) and I'm too afraid to bathe in the sun nowadays (another FEAR *sigh*). My current best friend is a tube of sunscreen which I carry with me everywhere I go for retouching :) I'm crossing my fingers that the cream will do miracle and fade away the annoying brown spots. Here's a tip for those of you with acne: DO NOT TOUCH your pimple! DO NOT PICK your pimple! and DO NOT SQUEEZE your pimple. Well, in short, just LEAVE YOUR PIMPLE ALONE. Believe me, I told myself that so many times but I quickly swallowed my own words when a pimple or two popped up ^.^ So yeah, long story short, I picked, I squeezed, then I got brown acne scars/spots...now I have to use cream to lighten it and it's no fun at all :(

Nuff said, here are some pics this past weekend of me out and about after 2-3 layers of sunscreen o_O hehe

Please note that this is an ongoing experiment so I might come back and update my review later if I find any changes in the quality of the products in the long run or if I find better alternatives to the products listed below

This post is actually requested by some of you who are interested to know what type of products I use to take care of my hair, etc. To be honest, there haven't been ONE single product that I called my HG. I don't like the idea getting use to one brand and feel obligated to stick with it. Just like skincare, some people feel that it is necessary to use the same brand for cleanser, moisturizer and night cream in order for it to work. For me, it's more about finding products that's compatible with your skin/hair. I've learned that the most important step in taking care of your skin and hair is to GETTING TO KNOW about them.

For the purpose of this post, I'll just stick with discussing about hair only. So how did I get to know my hair? By analyzing it and by asking myself questions such as: is it dry, damage, colored or does it has split ends etc. There are hundreds and thousands of products out there that claim to work like "miracle" but I only have one head to do test and trials on. That's why getting to know my hair is important because then I can eliminate all the unnecessary products and just stick with ones that target my specific needs.

Anyway, long story short, my hair is currently colored and dry so the products I use below are for those purposes. Like I mentioned earlier, I'm still experimenting with different products but these are some that currently work for me.

I do QUEEN HELENE JOJOBA HOT OIL TREATMENT once a week. You can get it at nessessary for around $5-8. The bottle is 8oz and each treatment requires one ounce so the whole bottle will lasts you 8 treatments total. Consistency is key in this product, it does not work miracle if you only use it once or twice. The product will leave your hair soft and smooth with regular use. If you're gonna give this a try, make sure to read and follow the instructions carefully. Test a small amount on the inner wrist area or other sensitive part of your skin before placing the product onto your scalp. The first time I tried this, I almost burned my scalp. The instruction say to cover your hair with a heat cap or warm dry towel, I use disposable shower cap and it works just fine. But a warm dry towel is best to lock-in the moisture. Also, it says to leave the product on for 3 minutes before rinsing, I tend to leave it on for 5-10 minutes and use a little more than 1oz each time since my hair is quite long.

Overall, this product does not works miracle but it works if you use it consistently for several months and for the money I paid for....I won't complain until I could find a better alternative.

One and Only ARGAN OIL TREATMENT is LOVE! I've used so many leave in oil treatments, hair shine sprays/serum, etc. and by far, this is the only one that I re-purchased.

To be honest,

I don't like oily stuffs, that is: hair serum, hair shine, hair spray, hair oil....etc.

but this product grew on me.

I like the fact that it's:

*oily but not the greasy type of oily

*after a while the oil absorbs into your hair and makes it look silky smooth

*it control flyaways

*it has a strong scent which I like although it can be a turn off for some people

*it's inexpensive and a little goes a long way: get it at sallys for $8

I recently tried the MACADAMIA NATURAL OIL DEEP REPAIR MASQUE.

It has superb reviews online and I must say the reviews are somewhat true. Some key ingredients in this product are macadamia, argan oils, tea tree oil, chamomile oil, aloe and algae extract...

The product does contain fragrance which is a downside for some people who preferred non-fragrance products.

For me,

the smell is nice and I'm more picky on ingredients when it comes to skincare products rather than hair products. I know, it really doesn't make sense since both type of products gradually absorb into your skin. But if you're really need an explanation then I guess I'm more paranoid when it comes to my face than my scalp ^O^

You only need to do this treatment twice a week. Leave it on as a conditioner for 7mins in the shower then rinse. Consistency is also key in using this product. It does leaves your hair soft and smooth to the touch after each use but you need to continue using it as directed to prolong the result.

IT'S A 10 MINUTES MIRACLE LEAVE IN PRODUCT is good but not as good as my Argan Oil :)

So I'd recommend trying the Argan oil first before trying this!

Here's a downer,

This product also contains fragrance like most other hair products and the scent is really strong.

However, being weird as I am I find the scent to be really nice O_O

The consistency of this product is not liquid but rather a white paste

A little product goes a long way.

Too much of this product can cause greasiness or a sticky feel to your hair.

I didn't have any problem with the product being oily, sticky or greasy but rather, it stays on really nice and gives my hair a really soft and smooth feel to it. I also love how it cuts down on hair frizz.

Again, not every product work the same way for everyone. But if you dye your hair often like I do or tend to use hot styling products such as curling iron and hair straightener, do try to get some hair treatment products to prevent your hair from being damage. Another tip is use hair color shampoo and conditioner to keep your hair color from fading. Also cut/trim your hair every so often to keep it looking healthy and prevent split ends ^^

DIY Rabbit Bunny Wired Ear Headband

What you'll need: 1. fabric, 2. scissor, 3. wire, 4. plier, 5. measurement tape

Step 1. Cut two pieces of fabric into equal length and width...what I did was measure of one my headband (the one that wrap around your full head) and add a few more inches for the bunny ears. Depending on how long and wide you want the headband to be...mine came out to be 40in by 3.5in.

Step 2. Place the right side (the darker) back to back then sew two parallel lines along the edges. Remember to leave a little opening at the end so you could flip the right side of the fabric out later on...

Step 3. Use your plier and create a small round curve at the end of the wire (pictured below)....the reason for this is to make the wire goes smoothly along the seam lines without being stuck to the fabric/thread.

Step 4. Take the rounded end of the wired and push it in along one of the opening of the two parallel seam lines until you reach all the way to the other end/opening...

Step 5. When the wired has run through smoothly, flip the right side of the fabric out then use the needle and hand sew the remaining parts....

This is the opening part that I had hand sewn...if you pull the two end of the fabric together and push it inside and sew it like the technique in the picture above, the seam line will not be visible...

My finished version...I made my bunny ears a little bit longer because I wanna be able to wear it multiple ways....

Cool Newspaper Print Nail Art Tutorial

I came across this super cool nail art design online and it's so easy to do....thought I'd share with you girls...

What you'll need: 1 base coat, 1 top coat, 1 nail polish (whichever color you like), newspaper (cut into 10 little pieces to fit on your nails)

Step 1: Apply base coat onto your nails. Wait until they're dry then apply nail polish...

Step 2: Pour a little bit of alcohol into a dappen dish, then place your already dry nail into it for 5 seconds. If you don't want to use alcohol, water should work too but the letters will not be as dark and precise as with alcohol.

Step 3: Immediately take a piece of newspaper and place it on top of the nail. DO NOT RUB on it, the letters will smear. Gently tap/press it onto your nail for about 5-10 seconds then remove the newspaper.

Step 4: Finished off with a layer of top coat. It's important to use top coat to keep the letters intact.

Here's how mine looks like....

Soft Pink Makeup Tutorial

Step 1. Apply eye makeup base all over eyelids...

Step 2. Use a brush to apply a light pink or peach eye shadow on eyelids...

Step 3. Apply a dark shade (I used brown) at the corner/crease to define lid...blend it gently...

Step 4. Use a white shimmery eyeliner to line the bottom lash

Step 5. Use a brush to gentle apply the pink/peach eye shadow on top of the white liner...

Step 6. Apply white eye shimmer/glitter on the inner rim of eyes...

Step 7. Use a black eyeliner to outline the top and bottom lash lines....focus only on the outer end....

Step 8. Apply mascara to top and bottom lashes. Finish off with lipgloss or lipstick....

FINISHED LOOK :D

Nail Dangles - Jewelry

Have you ever heard of nail dangles or nail jewelry? I love this idea when I first heard of it a while back. So I ordered the kit which cost roughly less then $20 online and this is how it looks like:

The kit comes with a small drill....

What you'd do is drill a hole through nail from the underside of your nail...this is not the best picture here to show you how it's done since I had to hold the camera and take picture with the other hand. The idea of drilling a hole through your nail may be a bit daunting but it's actually really harmless ^^

This is how it looks like after inserting the dangle onto your nail. There should be tiny connectors which you'd use to connect the opening of the holes to the dangles...

There are so many different types of nail dangles online. This is the first kit I bought and the dangles came out to be bigger than I thought. I'd recommend buying really tiny ones, they will look cuter and will be easier to work around with especially for those who work with their hands a lot.

Nail dangles are so cute and fun not to mention that it's an attention grabber. Not many people are familiar with nail dangles so undoubtedly they will be asking you interesting questions about it ^^

Skin79 Luminous Pearl BB Cream Diamond Collection Review

This is my first time trying Skin79 BB cream as well as a shimmery type. I'm glad I did because the experience is so much difference than regular BB cream.

Skin79 Luminous Pearl BB Cream has little shimmery particles in it. Here are some before and after pics...you can clearly see the shimmery effects...

What I like about this BB Cream:
+The texture is soft as a mouse. It's very light and goes on skin smoothly.
+The shimmery particles make my face glows and vibrant looking
+Comes in a detachable brush so you don't have to use your fingers or a sponge to apply the cream onto your skin. The brush head can be taken off easily therefore, it makes it much more sanitize to use
+Great for taking pictures. Take a look at the pictures below. My face looks really bright and glowy due to the shimmery effect.

What I don't like about this BB Cream:
-Availability. Location to get this bb cream is rare here in the U.S. or at least where I live. Therefore, for me, the only way to get it is online but hey, same things goes for most of the other BB creams I've tried ^^
-A bit too oily. I have combination skin and I had to blotch my t-zone several times more than I normally would have to.
-Coverage is medium. It does not cover all my blemishes compare to other bb creams.
-Too shimmery for everyday look. I'm a matte girl. Although it's fun to be bright and shinny once in a while, I found this BB Cream not suitable for everyday wear.

Would I buy it again?
This is a maybe for me. I like the difference feeling it has on my skin. I might be using this more during the summer since I like the how it makes my face glows while out in the sun but during colder months, I wouldn't want to look all glittery walking around. Not recommend for people who just started using bb creams, those who have oily skin and those who do not like shimmer. Also, not recommend for people who look for heavy coverage and has lots of blemishes or skin discolorations. Overall, I'm giving this a 3.8/5
