Can you cure cancer with your hands?

A totally mind-blowing experience: I had the pleasure of meeting Bill Bengston last week at the Society for Scientific Exploration. (I was present because the Society was kind enough to award me their Dinsdale Prize.) Among all the many intriguing talks at that meeting was Bill's presentation: he cures cancer in mice, with 100% success rate. He does this by using his hands. Nothing else.

Yes, this sounds awfully suspicious, but if you read his informal account in Edge Science you may be as impressed as I am. Bill has published many papers describing his procedures and results in peer-reviewed journals. He's not a cancer specialist of any sort -- in fact he's a sociologist. But he collaborates with medical and biological researchers all over the country. These mammary adenocarcinomas are 100% fatal; yet, he is able to cure them at the rate of 100%. The mice are really cured: once the tumor disappears, they live out their normal life spans, without ever contracting cancer.

The 800 pound gorilla in the room: if this treatment works so well in mice, then why not humans? Check out Bill's explanation at the end of his Edge Science piece.

ePub: This is the most common eBook format. It is “reflowable” meaning it will look somewhat different depending on the particular device and the reader’s preferences. The file size is 19.1 MB.

Kindle: We are offering a .mobi format which can be used with Amazon’s Kindle devices or readers. The file size is 40.8 MB

PDF: This format looks just like the original print edition and is not reflowable. You must use a PDF viewer like Adobe Reader to view. Not recommended for devices with small screens. The file size is 55.2MB

All three editions have dynamic table of contents and indexes. Also you will notice there are many links to internal and external (web) destinations. If interested, please purchase here.

This fluorescence was a surprise to the observers, and seemingly also to the NY Times reporter.

However, the result is not at all surprising. We found that structured water (EZ water) fluoresces at visible wavelengths. For anyone interested, the paper is: Chai BH, Zheng JM, Zhao Q, Pollack GH. Spectroscopic studies of solutes in aqueous solution.
Many claims exist for the health benefits of certain waters. Such claims frequently evoke skepticism because the people who make them often have financial interests in the waters they produce or endorse. We simply do not know whether those waters can really promote health and reverse pathologies.

Our recent discovery of water’s fourth phase lays a new foundation for understanding the role of water in health. Evidence suggests that this water is critical for cellular function and therefore likely to be critical for your health. We plan to launch scientific studies testing the fourth-phase water’s potential for promoting and sustaining health.

These studies have the potential to open an entirely new pathway for advancing and sustaining life -- through water.

The trouble is that initiating this new wave of studies requires seed funds. Conventional funding sources rarely look favorably on radical approaches such as this one. Therefore, we are trying to raise those funds through Indiegogo.com, a global platform for crowd funding.

If you have a moment, please take a look at our short campaign video. It explains our vision and rationale for the proposed studies, which will objectively test various waters for their ability to reverse pathologies including cancer, diabetes, and several other devastating diseases. We believe that preliminary evidence is now sufficient to justify these studies, whose results will be made freely available to everyone.

If our vision for the health of humanity resonates with you, then please consider a modest (tax deductible) contribution to our campaign, which will help us launch these critically needed studies.

Also helpful would be a post of our campaign on your social network; or send a link to visionary friends, who might be moved to join us in pursuing this scientifically based, drug-free approach to everyone’s health. The time has come.

Thanks so much, and best wishes,

Getting that video posted has been quite a saga. The live presentation took place in Canada, at the University of Guelph. The backdrop was neat, the atmosphere was full of anticipatory excitement, but technical aspects of the production gave reason for pause: problems with microphones, failure of slide advance, etc.

When the edited version was posted I was shocked. My son Ethan, who prepared the slides and rarely loses his cool, was outraged. Everything that could possibly go wrong went wrong. It contained the wrong set of slides. Animations were left unanimated. Videos became stills. Audio was barely audible. And more… Worse, they lost the original video recordings.

We had to pull the presentation from the web.

I won’t bore you with the saga that followed, except to say that one and a half years elapsed before the video could be properly edited through dint of hard work by Abe King and my son Ethan.

Does hot water freeze faster than cold water?

Erasto Mpemba, a middle school student in Africa, decades ago found indeed that hot water froze faster than cold water: when Mpemba added ice-cream mix to warm water instead of cold water, and shoved those mixes into the freezer, the warm water created ice cream faster than the cold water. A paradox.

During the past several months we found in laboratory experiments that it was not just the ice cream mix that froze faster, but even pure water itself. Chambers of warm water placed next to a cooling block froze faster than chambers of cold water placed next to the block, by 10 – 15 percent. We were excited to confirm this seemingly paradoxical result (dealt with at length in my new water book).

This “Mpemba Effect” rose to prominence recently when the esteemed Royal Society proposed a contest, offering 1,000 pounds sterling to the person who could explain the paradox. They were surprised to receive 22,000 entries. The winner, recently announced, is a young scientist working in Zagreb. If you are interested, check out his explanation.

Finally, our two research papers on this fascinating subject were accepted for publication within a day of one another. No, we’ve not proved that blood can flow in the absence of cardiac pumping, but we’ve found something in the lab that bears on that question.

When we immerse a straw-like tube in water, we find that water flows axially through the tube, like blood in a vessel. If flows almost ceaselessly. This occurs in the absence of any kind of pump. The only energy available for driving the flow is the electromagnetic energy drawn from the environment and absorbed by the water. When light is added to increase that energy, we observe faster flow. Ultraviolet light is particularly effective, increasing the flow rate by four to five times.

We think the phenomenon might play a role in driving blood through capillaries. Capillaries are often smaller than the red cells that must pass through; consequently those cells must squirm their way through. Resistance is appreciable, and help is therefore welcome. Since external light energy drives flow through tubes, it may also help drive flow through those capillaries. We plan to test this hypothesis soon. The flow phenomenon is amply described in the new water book.

Scathing Attack on Wilhelm Reich

The journal WATER, www.waterjournal.org which I edit, has recently published some controversial papers. Authored by James DeMeo, one paper responds to a scathing attack on the famed Wilhelm Reich. Reich was a student of Freud. He became interested in many scientific subjects, including a new life form, which he called the “bion” and a new kind of energy known as “orgone” energy.

Reich’s books were burned first by the Nazis, and later by authorities in the US. Clearly, whatever this scientist / psychiatrist had to say posed threats to multiple groups.

An article appearing in the journal Nature attacked Reich unfairly. DeMeo attempted to rebut in a comprehensive article signed my many scientists, but Nature allowed only a modest statement that precluded any presentation of evidence to rebut the accusations. We decided to publish DeMeo’s piece, which you may find as compelling as I’ve found it. Check it out here.

Chang for Lunch – Does water boil at 100°?

While at Cambridge University recently, Emily and I had a nice lunch with Hasok Chang and his wife Gretchen. From Korea originally, Hasok is now in the Department of History and Philosophy of Science at Cambridge. His approach differs from most philosophers: he actually does experiments. Hasok revels in repeating experiments carried out centuries ago, hesitating not one iota in offering fresh reinterpretation.

One of Hasok’s recent works deals with water’s boiling point. Everyone knows that water boils at 100 °C. Hasok shows in fact that that the boiling point is not fixed: it varies depending on conditions. Check out his work on the subject. Also, his clear and articulate lecture on the practice of science may be worth watching.

A joint interview with the spiritualist Masaru Emoto is now
available. You may know Emoto — he’s become famous for his work on ice
crystals: A gentle “I love you” or a pleasing Bach cantata produces lovely
crystals, while an “I hate you” shriek or hard rock music produces grotesque
crystals.

Karen Elkins put Emoto’s spirituality together with our
science to see what the brew might bring.
Emoto and I had not met before, but the interview served as a nice
introduction. You might find the interview worth listening to.

While in the UK for a conference, Emily and I enjoyed dinner at the home of Rupert Sheldrake and his wife Jill Purce. Jill is widely recognized for developing chanting overtones for therapeutic use. Rupert is a mesmerizing lecturer and author of some dozen books dealing with unconventional science. His research topics include: Do your pets really know when you leave your office to come home? Do you really know when someone is staring at you? Might you know who’s calling when the phone rings? And, are the fixed “constants” of science, such as the speed of light and the gravitational constant, G, really constant?

Rupert’s recent experience with TEDx shocked me. His lecture was pulled from the official TED series. It was banned. The series prides itself on presenting “ideas worth hearing.” Yet TED decided that Rupert’s ideas were not worth hearing.

The Fourth Phase of Water- on its way!

The Fourth Phase of
Water: Beyond Solid, Liquid, and Vapor is finally out. We just got news
from the Korean printer that the books are on their way to several warehouses
scattered throughout the US. That’s great news after several years of
preparation.

The samples we received are amazingly beautiful although
Ethan (artist, son) laments that the colors of his carefully executed figures
don’t exactly match what he’d specified. If we’re fortunate enough to require
another printing, perhaps Ethan might travel to Seoul to supervise.

The book should ship from warehouses by the end of April. Those
interested in early purchase can take advantage of a 15% store-wide discount. We’re excited
by the enormous interest shown in preliminary versions of the book.
