Perfect for beginners

I have to defend this book. It wasn't written for advanced AdSense users, so it cannot be judged as if it were. I'm an AdSense user, and this is the book I recommend to my non-technical friends and family members who don't understand how I make money from running ads on my Web site. It's perfect for them to learn how to do it too. How else are newbies going to get started if there is no book for them?

Everything Eric writes is knowledgeable, down-to-earth, helpful, and honest. Remember that he had an editor for this book too, so it was probably changed a lot from his usual style. His new book, Uncommon AdSense, probably better reflects his writing style since it didn't have a big publisher. I like his companion blog for this book too. It reflects himself as an honest, smart guy whom you can trust to teach you about AdSense.

Yes. His ideas work. And he explains his ideas well, using sufficient images to get his points across. You're not going to get rich off AdSense in just 30 days, but if you implement his ideas and suggestions, you will start to make money from your website and blog without having to do much more than provide interesting content.

The highlight of the book has to be its concise and readable C functions for all the algorithms presented here, including basics like linked lists, stacks to trees, graphs, and sorting/searching algorithms.

The C functions that implement these algorithms are clearly printed and remarkably easy to read. You can use this sample code directly or adapt it into your C/C++ code.

Although mathematical concepts like Big-O notation are discussed, the authors don't get bogged down in the computer science theory surrounding algorithms. Instead, they present the most tried-and-true algorithms available today in an efficient format. Besides introducing each algorithm, they describe how each is used in computing today, along with a short demo application. Some of these samples are quite low-level, such as a virtual memory manager implemented with linked lists. Most examples are more of general interest, such as a graphing example that counts network hops.

Each section ends with questions and answers about how the algorithms work, along with references to other algorithms (both in the book and from other sources). The authors concentrate on the most useful algorithms available today and don't try to cover every available variation. Busy readers will appreciate the intelligent selection--and efficient presentation--used here.

Considering 'Algorithms with C'

Things I didn't know when I ordered this book was how structured the book was. It's easy to comprehend and doesn't contain too much unnecessary information. Furthermore, what I also managed to miss was the disc which was included, and this contains more in-depth code, which allows one to check a whole program instead of only a part.
It is definitely a good decision to start with buying this book if you're studying Algorithms with C, since this will truly help and support you on your way.

The book is probably OK, but there are better, much better ones on the subject. I highly recommend looking at `The Algorithm Design Manual`, just search Amazon and you'll find it.

Best book I've read on SEO so far

I checked out at least 15 books from the library to learn about SEO. Most were either too basic or just seemed to be poorly written and/or by a somewhat shady author. This book, however, was a great combination of writing, humor, knowledge, and practicality. So, I ended up buying it and read it 3 times as I completely remade our company website from scratch. i think this book is a great fit for someone who is beyond the absolute basics (although that's covered here too) but probably isn't planning to be doing SEO every minute of every day as your full-time job. Doing everything in this book will get you really far and if you need more info, there's a ton of blogs and websites you can keep up with for the nitty gritty daily advancements of SEO.

Great Presentation

I liked that this book offered `realistic` methods for SEO. The authors seem to understand the limited time a small business person has and presents ways to get your SEO done in a time efficient manner. I liked the `Pearl of Wisdom` notes that presented helpful `real world` information on the subject being discussed. They also discuss many different must-have tools and references to web sites that are very useful. The book offered great presentation and was very informative.

Dummy Review of Adsense Book

`Adsense for Dummies` is an excellent and informative book and, as usual, Amazon was very prompt in their service. If you are thinking about setting up an Adsense account with Google read this book first since it contains advice on how to set up your Adsense account and your website. Not Very Usefull

Most of the stuff you find in this book are found online in google adsense. Infact, you may find the latest updates also. And i found this book is not very well organized. I am really surprised to see there are lots of gramatical mistakes too. There are some usefull links regarding adsense in this books. Except that, i dont think this book to be very informative.

Over 1000 pages of information updated to include version 8.0 of PgSOL. I still Bruce Momjian's 2001 `PostgreSQL: Introdugcion and Concepts` because it is smaller and easier to use, but where old methods no longer work I use this new work.

Adequate but dry and too expensive
This book certainly covers all the basics for those wishing to learn PostgreSQL - However:

Nearly half of the book is Appendices. Maybe OK if you don't want to read the free docs on the computer screen.
Written like an encyclopedia. Ever try reading one of those? The lack of user exercises is particularly irritating.

Get the Wrox book instead of this one and you will be richer and happier

The book is 453 pages of which 220 are simply manual pages in print. Of the other 233 pages about 105 of them are basic SQL syntax review. So now you have 128 pages left. Many of those are information about databases in general, such as what are indexes and why are they used. The amount of pure PostgreSQL specific information is very limited. The book is in no way worth,,,, You are basically paying for manual pages. Save your money and download the documentation for PostgreSQL which is very well written. This book is very well written and easy to follow. There is nothing techincally wrong with the book. Frequently, however, you will see the statement `See the manual pages for more information`. Save yourself the money and see the manual pages

Way Beyond AdWords!!!

This book should be read not only by people trying to learn about AdWords but also by those interested in narrowing down their market niches. I have spent hundreds of dollars in marketing materials, I hold an MBA degree but I must humbly admit this is the first time I actually understand my market niche down to the color of their socks.

It is amazing what you can do today with Google Tools and their readily available information, but it takes a book like this to learn and understand this powerful source of information and Howie Jacobson does an incredible job at communicating it.

this book is okay
I bought a million books before taking a class in C. This was one of them.

It seems okay, I guess, but not great. I ended up using the Dietel book for class, which was amazing - although I'm not positive I would have enjoyed it so much without the aid of an instructor.

I think the best book I used for learning on my own was by Apress - but I generally like all of their books.

full of errors, theory is pretty good though Although to me some of the errors were obvious but for a beginner they might not be that obvious and you could get stuck with an error screen for hours and hours thinking YOU are wrong and the book is right, before finally discovering you need to adjust cause the book is just wrong. they add four menu items for example, while in the image you see it are five. then in the code they work with five so you have to make the fifth one yourself and discover its name etc. Also they tell you to rename the buttons but in their code you can't follow anymore cause they didnt rename their own buttons.

This was just in chapter 1, the third day, which is the first real code writing lesson.
I can't understand why someone would give this book a five star rating. It's very confusing for a beginner with all the errors. But if you have a decent basis and you can easily discover the errors it might still be ok, but not highly recommended.

A good discussion of Perl graphics programming - however, it needs updating to discuss the GD 2 graphics library.

The Best Book Available

Simply put: if you want to learn how Perl can interact with graphics, then you need to get this book. It is far superior to O'Reilly's outdated and thin book, Programming Web Graphics with Perl & GNU Software.

Thankfully Graphics Programming with Perl does not limit itself to Web graphics. While dedicating many chapters to Web graphics, the author also discusses topics, such as 3D animation using OpenGL and Renderman, that most people do not associate with the Perl programming language. Very informative!

The author, Martien Verbruggen, cleary knows his stuff and it shows, especially in the opening chapters where he presents in-depth overviews of the bits and pieces in graphics programming (e.g, the drawing primitives, color spaces and palettes, file formats, et cetera). Many other books would probably breeze through such information, but not here. Not only did I learn about the graphic tools available to the Perl programmer, but I also learned a great deal about the graphic programming world in general.

not for a beginner

I agree with previous reviewers-- this book is not a whole lot different from Java tutorials. I'm a long-time java programmer, but with no 3d graphics experience. I found it difficult to pick up basic graphics concepts from this book. Thus, I bounced back and forth between this book, the java3d tutorials, and other tutorials I found on the internet. This book has some value in that it provides a handy reference for some aspects of java3d programming. But there are major gaps in explanation. For another option, try `Computer Graphics Using Java 2D and 3D` by Zhang/Liang.

The Road to Programming is Sometimes Paved with Web Pages By Elisabeth Robson I am often asked how I first got started in programming. Recently, I was interviewed by Girls Gone Geek, a weekly podcast on technology from a women's perspective, and they asked if I got started by creating web sites. The Girls clearly have no idea how old I am! (Shhh,,.) I actually started programming long before the Web was a twinkle in Tim Berners-Lee's eye, but their question got me thinking, and I realized that creating a web site is a good way to get started on your way to programming. Now, you might be thinking, `Writing HTML and CSS is not the same thing as programming`, and that's technically true. But once you've put together a basic web page, you'll have learned a lot about how the web works under the covers, and you'll be able to tackle some simple programming concepts. The next logical step is to learn a bit of JavaScript, so you can create some cool effects on your web page. Before you know it, you'll be learning Ajax, and then a server side programming language like PHP or Java, and then you'll need a database, so you'll learn some SQL,,. and ta da! You're a web programmer. I work with several people who have taken an interesting path to programming. One friend has an advanced degree in music and is now a business data analysis expert; another started out wanting to be a farmer, became a web application programmer, and is now a serious Java programmer.

For those of you who have no interest in the mechanics of web pages, there are lots of programs out there, like Adobe Dreamweaver and Microsoft Expression, that will help you create a web page without having to know how HTML and CSS really work. But if you want to know what's happening under the covers so you can learn about how web pages really work, and eventually write some JavaScript and do more advanced programming, I definitely recommend writing your own HTML and CSS from scratch. You can use a simple editor like TextEdit (on the Mac) or TextPad (on Windows). No need for anything fancy. Another advantage to writing HTML and CSS yourself is that you can always write your web pages using the most current standards. When we wrote Head First HTML with CSS & XHTML, HTML 4.01, CSS 2, and XHTML 1.0 were the most current and best supported versions of these technologies, and in fact they still are. But standards development is inching along and before too long, HTML 5, CSS 3 and XHTML 2.0 will be launched and supported by browsers. If you stay up to date with these standards, you're likely to be writing far better code than programs like Dreamweaver or Expression do. Once the new standards for HTML, CSS and XHTML are nailed down a bit more, we'll update Head First HTML with CSS & XHTML to include some of the cool new features. HTML 5 will be more strict than HTML 4 was, but it's designed to be backwards compatible with older browsers, so you will be able to convert your HTML 4 pages to HTML 5 web pages without worrying too much about breaking them in older browsers. (However, always keep in mind that there is no substitute for lots of testing!) In the meantime, you can write HTML 4.01, CSS 2 and XHTML 1 knowing that these standards will be the most current and the best supported for quite a while. When the new standards are released and supported by browsers, we'll help you sort through it all so you can focus on creating great web pages and building up your web skills. And once you get the hang of some of these web page skills, you might very well find yourself wanting to move from creating web pages to programming.

Good price and excelent condition for a 2nd hand book

I'm quite satisfied with the purchase. The price, book condition and delivery time were quite good. At the beginning I refused the idea to buy a book in the USA while I live in Spain. Then I was not able to find it in Spain. After I've found it here it was so expensive,,. So, the optimum solution was to buy it by Amazon.

And the ACCU site agrees with me. This is an excellent book on the C programming language. Of course, you will want K&R next and finally C: A Reference Manual for the extensive library documentation and cross referencing.
