<address style="text-align: justify;"><em>During an intense nighttime skirmish between U.S. and Viet Cong forces, buddies Shane and Matt tumble into a bomb crater moments after a barrage of bullets assail them. Shane escapes serious injury but Matt is hit and rapidly losing blood from gunshots to the leg and stomach. Unable to pull Matt to safety, Shane makes a decision — to save his friend, he must leave him alone and run for help. Now by himself, Matt confronts his own mortality and when an explosion leaves him deaf, he cannot hear the radio blaring Shane’s return with reinforcements. As enemies and friends approach Matt’s position, who will Matt kill with his last bullet?</em></address>

<p style="text-align: justify;">On set, ECG&#8217;s Jason Sirotin provided special effects makeup throughout the production, Jason Marraccini served as audio mixer and Josh McGill worked as boom operator.  Thanks to the well coordinated efforts of an absolutely first-class crew, production was completed in two 12-hour overnight shoots (7 PM - 7 AM both nights) with the post-production process beginning almost immediately after wrap.</p>

<p><span class="formQ"><strong>MISSION &amp; OBJECTIVE</strong></span><br />
<span class="formA"> Our aim is to engage audiences in an exploration of environmental and ecological themes through the medium of film. Founded in 2007, the EcoFocus Film Festival screens a diversity of films of high scientific and artistic quality to promote conversations on both the content and the medium by which environmental themes are conveyed. We intend for these films to serve as catalysts for increased public awareness, discussion and action to improve the ecological health of the planet and its inhabitants.</span></p>
<p><span class="formQ"><strong>ABOUT THE FESTIVAL</strong></span><br />
<span class="formA"> The first EcoFocus Film Festival will be held in Athens, GA in Fall of 2008. Several full-length features will be screened along with panel discussions, events, and exhibits. We will also showcase short films selected from among filmmaker submissions. More detailed information about the festival will be available at our website as available: www.ecology.uga.edu/ecofilmfest.htm.</p>
<p>Past EcoFocus Events<br />
On April 26, 2007, the first EcoFocus (then called Eco-Cine) event, representing a collaboration between the University of Georgia Institute of Ecology (since re-named the Odum School of Ecology) and Cine was celebrated by presenting EarthDance, a selection of environmental films from the Oakland, CA event of the same name. Read more about our first event here and click on the logo above to see the flyer.</p>
<p>The second EcoFocus event occurred on October 12, 2007 with a reception, screening, and discussion of the film A CRUDE AWAKENING. Cine hosted guest speaker Dorinda Dallmeyer, Director of the UGA Environmental Ethics Certificate Program, who gave an introduction to the film and led a discussion following the screening. A film description can be found at http://athenscine.com/showing/details.php?id=167</p>
<p>Most recently, the EcoFocus Film Festival and Sundance Channel co-hosted a reception, panel discussion, and screening of BURNING THE FUTURE: COAL IN AMERICA, a feature-length documentary on the coal industry, mountaintop removal, and citizen activism in West Virginia. The event, held on April 1st, 2008 at Cine in Athens, was an opportunity to increase awareness of the environmental and human health impacts of mountaintop removal coal mining, but also gave the audience a taste of what&#8217;s to come at the EcoFocus Film Festival in October. Burning the Future is one of several environmental documentaries to be shown on the Sundance Channel&#8217;s &#8220;The Green&#8221; weekly environmental programming season that kicked off on April 1st. Several audience members stayed on after the 7 pm screening to particpate in the panel discussion. Panelists included: Scott Shelley, Burning the Future cinematographer, Dr. Bruce Wallace, UGA Professor, Odum School of Ecology and Department of Entomology, and Justine Thompson, Attorney and Executive Director of GreenLaw.</p>
<p>Please see the following for further information about the film: www.burningthefuture.com. For more information about Sundance Channel&#8217;s The Green, please see http://www.sundancechannel.com/thegreen/<br />

<p>One of the hardest things about contests like <a href="http://www.imagefv.org/image_services_RAPID.html" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outbound/article/www.imagefv.org');" target="_blank">Rapid i Movement</a> and the <a href="http://www.48hourfilm.com/" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outbound/article/www.48hourfilm.com');" target="_blank">48-Hour Film Project</a> is the amount of concessions you have to make due to time constraints. All of us at <a href="http://www.ecgprod.com" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outbound/article/www.ecgprod.com');" target="_blank">ECG</a> love the concept of <a href="http://www.ecgprod.com/disconnect" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outbound/article/www.ecgprod.com');" target="_blank"><em>Disconnect</em></a> so much and were so happy with what we were able to accomplish in 50 hours that we decided to take some time to polish and refine a number of the elements of the film to get it closer to our original vision.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.ecgfilms.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/dsc02934.jpg" ><img class="size-medium wp-image-94" title="dsc02934" src="http://www.ecgfilms.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/dsc02934-225x300.jpg" alt="" width="225" height="300" /></a></p>
<p>Trey Gregory is currently revising and expanding many of the graphical elements. Once he&#8217;s done I&#8217;ll begin adding them into the edit, as well as expanding and fleshing out the sound design. In addition, there was actually an expanded ending that we didn&#8217;t have time to incorporate that we&#8217;re going to try to add back in.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.ecgfilms.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/looksover.jpg" ><img class="size-medium wp-image-65" title="looksover" src="http://www.ecgfilms.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/looksover-300x168.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="168" /></a></p>
<p>Stay tuned for the definitive version of the film. We&#8217;re hoping to have it completed by mid-June. As always, if you&#8217;d like a DVD copy of either version of the film, or any other film from the ECG library, give us a shout at <a href="mailto:info@ecgprod.com">info@ecgprod.com</a>.</p>

<p>As <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XY_TV" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outbound/article/en.wikipedia.org');" target="_blank">XY.tv</a>&#8217;s uncertain future began to seem more bleak, the <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0424620/" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outbound/article/www.imdb.com');" target="_blank">Common Ave</a>. team continued to take greater creative and logistical risks with the content of the show. The justification? With the staff and resources at our disposal and very little day-to-day oversight, why the hell shouldn&#8217;t we produce the content we had always wanted to create. The culmination of that attitude was <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0916033/" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outbound/article/www.imdb.com');" target="_blank"><em>Carol X Incorporated </em></a>a 93-page script co-written by the key members of the Common Ave. team that was a combination 80&#8217;s-ski-movie-parody and morality play based on a modern interpretation of <em>A Christmas Carol. </em><em><br />
</em></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><em><a href="http://www.ecgfilms.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/carolx7-3ghosts.png" ><img class="size-medium wp-image-81" title="carolx7-3ghosts" src="http://www.ecgfilms.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/carolx7-3ghosts-300x225.png" alt="The 3 Ghosts" width="300" height="225" /></a></em></p>
<p>In order to get permission to use company resources to tackle such an ambitious project, the team had to agree to a few basic rules:</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.ecgfilms.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/carolx10-mimeyhess.png" ><img class="size-medium wp-image-82" title="carolx10-mimeyhess" src="http://www.ecgfilms.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/carolx10-mimeyhess-300x225.png" alt="Mimey &amp; Charlie" width="300" height="225" /></a></p>
<p>The first: no budget. Beyond the salaries of the employees working on the project and the gear already owned by the company, no additional funds could be spent on the production. This meant that no actors could be paid, we had to rely on locations we could shoot at for free and that we even had to produce two commercials for free in order to secure hotel rooms and the use of the ski lodge that served as the film&#8217;s main location.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.ecgfilms.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/carolx4-balcony.png" ><img class="size-medium wp-image-83" title="carolx4-balcony" src="http://www.ecgfilms.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/carolx4-balcony-300x225.png" alt="" width="300" height="225" /></a></p>
<p>The second rule: although structured as a feature film on the page, the content had to be split up into smaller episode-sized chunks so that it could be aired individually in Common Ave&#8217;s half-hour time-slot. Additionally, it had to be ready to air by Christmas 2006, less than two months from when the idea was concieved. In order to meet the deadline, four different editors each took a portion of the film through post-production and only after it aired in segments were the smaller elements combined to make the final feature film.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.ecgfilms.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/carolx3-carmen.png" ><img class="size-medium wp-image-84" title="carolx3-carmen" src="http://www.ecgfilms.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/carolx3-carmen-300x225.png" alt="Carmen Habib" width="300" height="225" /></a></p>
<p>Representing the team&#8217;s first attempt at a fully realized feature film, Carol X was shoot in an amazingly short two weeks and edited in less than a month. The film pays homage to such popular Holiday films as <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0096061/" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outbound/article/www.imdb.com');" target="_blank"><em>Scrooged</em></a> and <em><a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0085334/" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outbound/article/www.imdb.com');" target="_blank">A Christmas Story</a> </em>as well as the countless generic ski-lodge based comedies of the 80s that attempted to capitalize on the <em><a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080487/" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outbound/article/www.imdb.com');" target="_blank">Caddyshack</a> </em>formula<em> </em>by simply substiting ski-instructors for caddies.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.ecgfilms.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/carolx9-kenquigley.png" ><img class="size-medium wp-image-85" title="carolx9-kenquigley" src="http://www.ecgfilms.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/carolx9-kenquigley-300x225.png" alt="" width="300" height="225" /></a></p>
<p>While by no means a perfect film, <em>Carol X Incorporated</em> stands as a testament to the talent and dedication of the ECG Productions team. Taking a feature film from script to screen with no budget on an almost impossibly short deadline is something all of us are extremely proud of. You never forget your first feature, and this was ours.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.ecgfilms.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/carolx6-jasonbalcony21.png" ><img class="size-medium wp-image-88" title="carolx6-jasonbalcony21" src="http://www.ecgfilms.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/carolx6-jasonbalcony21-300x225.png" alt="" width="300" height="225" /></a></p>
<p>Due to the long length of the film, it is not available online in its entirety. Feel free to contact us at info@ecgprod.com for a DVD copy.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.ecgfilms.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/carolx11-skiing.png" ><img class="size-medium wp-image-90" title="carolx11-skiing" src="http://www.ecgfilms.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/carolx11-skiing-300x225.png" alt="" width="300" height="225" /></a></p>

<p><a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1224700/" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outbound/article/www.imdb.com');" target="_blank"><em>4:31 AM</em></a> was originally aired as a special Halloween episode of the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XY_TV" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outbound/article/en.wikipedia.org');" target="_blank">XY.tv</a> series <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0424620/" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outbound/article/www.imdb.com');" target="_blank">Common Ave</a>. Usually a light, family friendly comedic show, <em>4:31 AM</em> was a major stylistic departure for the series and remains the edgiest content ever produced for the show.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.ecgfilms.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/431a.png" ><img class="size-medium wp-image-71" title="431a" src="http://www.ecgfilms.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/431a-300x225.png" alt="" width="300" height="225" /></a></p>
<p>Using an unconventional story structure and employing high-contrast lighting, the short was a way for the shows&#8217; production team to satisfy their creative urges and break free from the safer &#8220;Common Ave. formula&#8221;, if only for a single episode. At the time of production it was becoming clear that XY.tv might be on the wane and the Common Ave. team took every opportunity to push the creative boundaries of the show as far as possible, as also illustrated by <a href="http://www.ecgfilms.com/?p=89" target="_self"><em>Carol X Incorporated</em></a>, a 93 minute film aired as a multi-part holiday special that was actually the <a href="http://www.ecgprod.com" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outbound/article/www.ecgprod.com');" target="_blank">ECG</a> team&#8217;s first feature.</p>

The idea was conceived by Jason Sirotin, a huge Stern fan who at the time was working as the Head of Production and Programming at Boston-based cable station <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XY_TV" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outbound/article/en.wikipedia.org');" target="_blank">XY.tv</a>. Crewed by the core members of the team who would eventually move to Atlanta to found <a href="http://www.ecgprod.com" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outbound/article/www.ecgprod.com');" target="_blank">ECG Productions</a>, the film was selected as one of 10 finalists out of over 3000 submissions.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 90px;"><a href="http://www.ecgfilms.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/1340024209_l.jpg" ><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-53" title="1340024209_l" src="http://www.ecgfilms.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/1340024209_l-300x200.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="200" /></a></p>
<p>Though No Signal didn&#8217;t win the competition, it did directly lead to Jason being offered a job as a Producer for <a href="http://www.indemand.com/" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outbound/article/www.indemand.com');" target="_blank">InDemand Networks</a> and <a href="http://www.howard.tv/" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outbound/article/www.howard.tv');" target="_blank">Howard TV</a>.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 120px;">

<p>Due to the film&#8217;s *ahem* &#8220;mature&#8221; content, it is not available online at this time.</p>
