Of course this is really surprising! Apparently it isn't always easy being the big guy. Microsoft is offering other alternative web browsers to its Windows 7 users in Europe, thanks to a ruling by the European Commission after complaint submitted by Opera back in 2007. In the latest Windows Update, Microsoft will prompt IE users using Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 to make a choice of choosing their web browser.

This update will be available to you through Automatic Updates. Even though you have disabled it for some reasons, you can get it from Windows Update website. It won't change anything in your system, except it unpins Internet Explorer from your taskbar and asks your preference of web browser you would like to use.

Here is the list of web browsers available:

Avant

Firefox

Chrome

Flock

Internet Explorer

Green Browser

Please note, this thing only appears when a user uses IE as default browser. User who already uses other web browsers will not be asked to choose.

Finally the latest version of Norton 360 4.0 is here. Norton 360 which is developed by Symantec, is different from other Norton's products because it is marketed as an "all-in-one" security suite. This suite consists of personal firewall, ability to detect & remove malware, phishing protection, PC maintenance and backup.

Symantec claims the latest Norton 360 4.0 has new features such as Norton Insight, SONAR 2 Behavioral Protection, Norton Download Insight, Norton File Insight and Norton System Insight. These features are not really new though as some people might think because these features had already been incorporated into IS 2010 and Norton AV when both products were launched about 5 months ago. The only things that can be considered as "new" are "Web-based Access to Backup Files" and "Reputation service".

The Web-based Access to Backup Files feature allows user to retrieve and restore files that already backed up anywhere, anytime from virtually any machines through internet access. As for the reputation service, it adds additional layer of protection when detecting viruses, spyware, Trojans and other threats. Norton reputation service technology scrutinizes different attributes of files and applications in real-time to determine if they are safe.

Since Norton products are based on subscription, you can upgrade to version 4.0 for free if you have an active subscription. The version 4.0 cannot be upgraded from LiveUpdate because you only get definition files and small update patches. You need to download the Norton 360 4.0 setup file which is 138 MB in size and install it over the current version. If you’re interested in trying out the latest Norton 360 4.0, you can download the file from the following link and you will get a free 90-day subscription.

US customers can start pre-ordering both Wi-Fi + 3G and Wi-Fi models from Apple’s online store on March 12 onwards. Apple users in Australia, France, Canada, Germany, Japan, Italy, Spain, the UK and Switzerland can expect this device to hit their countries by end of April. The pricing for international market is not yet announced but we will hear the announcement soon enough.

Here are some more details that we gathered from the official announcement.

1. It will be available for suggested retail price of

$499 for 16 GB

$599 for 32 GB

$699 for 64 GB

2. The Wi-Fi+3G models will be available at:

$629 for 16 GB

$729 for 32 GB

$829 for 64 GB

Apparently, the device is a bit overpriced as compared to other netbook counterparts. If we travel back through time, so was the first iPhone & the first iPod. Perhaps in a generation or two, the iPad will become popular as the the iPod Touch tried to be. It is definitely interesting to see how the consumers response to the iPad in the market and how they adopt it in their daily normal lives. Only time will tell.

A special tool that can remove this copy protection as it extracts the video content is needed and even better if it can convert the video right away into a format suitable for playback on your iPhone or iPod.

Note: Don't get me wrong, I’m talking about movies you actually own not movies you’ve borrowed or rented.

As a Mac user, you are like the rest of us; most likely eager to rip a DVD at one point of their life with computers. HandBrake is free application that has been around for some time and is the most preferred choice for most Mac users for ripping and encoding DVD content. The recent release of this wonderful HandBrake, the 0.9.4, brings bug fixes and many improvements. Anyway, here is a list of some of the new features included in this latest release.

Overall speed increases

32-bit and 64-bit versions (10% fasteron 64-bit)

Improvements to x264 video encoder. Thus better, smaller and faster encoding

Improved preview feature

I really like this extension because it loads pretty fast and doesn't consume much memory as I expect. The extension appears on the top left side of the address bar. So when you try to pull out data (SEO stats) from a URL, just simply visit the website and hit the extension icon. A list of data as follow will popup.

From there, we can click on any result to see for relevant information. The extension features Keyword Highlight NoFollow links, Research Tool (Alpha Version), backlinks number, pages indexed number, social bookmark count, current traffic, rankings and Domain Details (like Whois, Server Location, DNS etc).

Chrome SEO is being used by hundred of thousands Chrome users, making it one of the most popular extensions. Webmasters, make sure to keep it in your sleeves.

Recently a friend of mine asked me how to fix the losing signal after he mistakenly updated the firmware to 3.1.3 on his locked iPhone 3G. I thought there should be an easy fix giving the fact that there are a lot tutorials on how to jailbreak and unlock iPhone. Turned out it's not that simple.

Before you run into any problem that can make your head spinning, there are few things you should know about in order to avoid them from hitting you hard. There are few terminologies that might be confusing for someone new to this device. Knowing what these jargons are all about is a good move to better prepare yourself as a new iPhone owner. So let's get going.

Officially Unlocked iPhone VS Locked iPhone

Locked iPhone limits the device exclusively to a particular cellphone network. Any attempts to insert simcard of other network will effectively be rejected and you will not be able to use your iPhone to its full capacity. This can be fixed by using hardware or software unlocking but it comes with risks. You may not be able to update the OS software to the latest version or worst of all device malfunction.

Officially unlocked iPhone, on the other hand, allows user to freely use any network carriers and enjoy every single update from the iPhone’s OS without losing the ability to use any carrier SIM in the device.

If you haven't bought one for yourself, the ONLY type of iPhone that you should consider buying is an officially unlocked iPhone unless you don't mind having a lot of headaches with the unlocking process.

Fully unlocked iPhone available in the following countries

Belgium(Mobistar)

Czech Republic (O2, T-Mobile, Vodafone)

Greece(Vodafone, Cosmote)

Italy(TIM, Vodafone)

Luxembourg (Vox, LUXGSM)

Russia(Megafon, MTS, Beeline)

Turkey(Turkcell), Hong Kong(3)

Macau(3), Malaysia(Maxis)

New Zealand(Vodafone)

Singapore(SingTel)

Taiwan(Chunghwa Telecom)

Thailand(Truecom)

Saudi Arabia(Mobily)

UAE(Etisalat)

South Africa(Vodacom)

I hardly give attention to anything related to how-to-jailbreak-or-unlock-iPhone because I bought unlocked iPhone set from Maxis Malaysia (iPhone 3GS) and Singapore set (my previous iPhone 3G).

Jailbreak - Technically, it means to break into and gain access to the entire Unix file system (to change the root of the directory tree to /). Simply put, it's a restricted area where normal users are not supposed to mess around. By jailbreaking, you can add applications restricted by Apple into your phone. You can even change (mod) icons, dock, wallpaper, chat bubbles, status bar, keyboard etc. The addition of these applications are done via an application called Cydia.

Granted, jailbreaking can unlock your iPhone to another level of excitement (with new applications and modding stuffs) but apparently it doesn't appeal me to indulge into jailbreaking my iPhone (at least for now).

Unlock - Unlike units from the list above (fully unlocked), iPhone from the United States and the UK are locked by AT&T and by O2 respectively. So you can't simply use the phone with other operators. There are several solutions such as turbosim, stealthsim, Sn0wbreeze etc out there to unlock your phone so that you can freely use your iPhone with any operator you like.

Note: Please read carefully the pros/cons as well as instruction on each solution (by googling) when you attempt to use any method of unlocking. There are several adverse effects that might be experienced by your iPhone such as signal fluctuation when making call, no Airplane Mode etc. Some solutions might not be working anymore that Proceed with caution.

Sounds scary? Sure it does. That's why it's important to give extra care when you do the above-mentioned activities. Do more readings on the net so you will know what to expect if an unlocking method is applied. It also helps you from being ripped off by certain parties that might want to take advantage on your lack of knowledge.

Disclaimer: Jailbreaking voids your warranty but it can be easily fixed by restoring the iPhone OS via iTunes.

Latest Opera 10.5 features Carakan, a new revolutionary JavaScript rendering engine that boasts a new vector graphics library called Vega which in turn handles all graphics rendering in the web browser. According to Opera, Vega renders graphics roughly 3 times faster than the library utilised by the previous Opera 10.10. The incorporation of this new feature allows Opera 10.5 to easily take the top speed spot.

Several months ago Rapidshare suffered from declining number of users after introducing the "cat captcha", another painstaking limitation to free user account on top of the waiting time countdown. Rapidshare quickly learnt that the feature will not do any good to its business, so Rapidshare pulled the plug almost immediately. Now users are left with one traditional issue; Rapidshare wait time.

But no worries, there is always solution to this issue. Rapidshare Plus is a cool application that is purposely built to automate Rapidshare download for free account users by queuing rapidshare files. All you need to do is just supply Rapidshare links to Rapidshare Plus. Now you can grab your chair and have a drink or two or you can virtually do other things; let Rapidshare Plus does its job.

Rapidshare Plus Features

Start / stop download process

Settings are stored in an xml file so you can put the program on an USB stick and user your settings everywhere.
