At the recent SOA AGM EckO club member had his extensive contributions to orienteering recognised. EckO has, in the past, awarded Paul the ‘Forest Trophy’ for the work he does for the club in a voluntary capacity. Both the Scottish orienteering Association and British Orienteering have now presented him with awards.

A small turnout this week, but it is a long way for Oban folk to travel to, but disappointing that none of the local children turned up.

Six EckO members took part in the inaugural Dun na Cuiche run (6.5km 236m climb).
Andy Dale was 4th, Mark Hill 11th, Finlay Walton 14th, Paul Frost 21st, Carol Burnapp 28th & Lynne 29th.
Lynne tripped over about a km from the finish and put a 4.5cm gash just below the patella almost down to the tendon. This required a visit to Inverclyde hospital, a general anaesthetic and an overnight stay. We were very impressed with the quality of First Aid support that very quickly dealt with Lynne within seconds of crossing the line.

Thanks go to Niall for organising the event. Whilst putting out the controls in the afternoon he experienced horizontal rain and 10meter visibility, conditions when you realize how useful a compass is (pity he left his in the car!).

We managed it again - we bucked the weather forecast earlier in the week and produced a balmy spring evening for the event. That, plus the absence of midges and bracken only just beginning to check out conditions above ground, made for ideal orienteering.

It was a relatively few folks who braved the weather at Sutherland’s Grove, but fortunately the deluge held off until most were back.
