WEB Carnival May 16th!

8th Grade WEB Leaders have organized a carnival to celebrate our first year of WEB and all 6th Grade Students are invited to attend! Wednesday May 16th, 2012 is an early dismissal day and the Carnival will run from 12:30-2:20. Students are responsible for their own transportation home.

In order to stay after school and participate, a signed permission slip must be returned to the main office no later than Friday May 11th. If you have questions, please contact our WEB Coordinator, Rebecca Wynkoop.

WEB Leader Applications Due Friday 4/13!

Current 7th Grade Eckstein Students can now apply to serve as WEB Leaders for the 2012-2013 school year. Apply Now! Applications are due in the Main Office by Friday 4/13!

WEB is a peer mentorship program that matches 6^th grade students with trained 8^th grade WEB leaders (at a ratio of 10:2). The purpose of WEB is to build community, make connections across grade levels and support all our new 6^th grade students while providing leadership opportunities to our 8th grade students. In addition to 6 WEB lessons, taught in study hall by our WEB Leaders throughout the year, our leaders plan a number of social events throughout the school year that build relationships between leaders and their 6^th grade students.

**Last Day of School for Students (as of 4/5/12) is June 22: The Seattle School Board decided on Wednesday night (4/4) to extend the school year by two days to make up for January’s inclement weather. The last day of school will be Friday, June 22. Seattle students lost three days of school in January because of unsafe winter weather conditions. One day was made up on Jan. 27.

Eagle Readers Unite for City-Wide Readathon!

This Saturday, January 28, 2012, Seattle Public Libraries are sponsoring a City-wide Middle School Readathon. Visit one of the branches listed below between 11am and 5pm and log hours of reading for Eckstein (families are welcome to participate as well)!

Snacks and pizza will be provided and the Grand Prize is a Kube 93.3 sponsored dance!

Tuesday, Jan 24, 2012 – Furlough Day, 3-hour Early Dismissal (11:20). Furlough days are a result of a difficult budget situation at Seattle Public Schools. Both the District and the SEA, the teachers’ union, agree that furlough days are the best way to minimize the impact to our students and prioritize classroom funding.

Friday, Jan. 27, 2012 – Snow Make-up Day

Dear Families, Seattle Public Schools will hold classes on Friday, Jan. 27 as a snow make-up day. No school was scheduled for next Friday, the day between semesters, but instead it will be used as a make-up day for one of the three snow days this week, as outlined in the 2011-12 school calendar. A determination on making up the additional snow days, most likely at the end of the school year, will be decided next week. There will still be a three-hour early dismissal on Tuesday, Jan. 24 for a scheduled furlough day for teachers and staff represented by the Seattle Education Association (SEA). That day cannot be used as a snow make-up day.

Information Night, February 16 for Incoming Families

Eckstein will be hosting an Information Night on Thursday, February 16^th, from 6:30 to 7:30p.m for our new and prospective 5^th grade risers and their families. NO reservations required. Also, there will be no planned or “self-guided tours” as we are trying to guide people to our Information Night. However, there will be scheduled activities to help transition the new 6^th graders before the 2012-2013 school year begins (TBA).
