It's a delight for me to share this music with you, and I hope you find just as much magic in it as I do. :)

Whether you're into celebrating Hallowe'en, or prefer to just sit around the table with your family and friends for a good old Thanksgiving dinner, I hope this latest episode of Eclectica finds you well! For "many longs" as my grandmother would say, I've had the next few episodes in the works; so instead of blabbing all over the place here, I'll simply let the next (and long-time coming) episode of Eclectica speak for itself! Here's to a marvelous Turkey Day, more things to be thankful for than you could ever possibly count, and an All Hallows Eve that's nothing but pure magic!

Track Listing:

1. Caprice - Enter Laoris

2. Elvendrums - Walking in the Woods

3. The Gypsy Nomads - The Celtic Sprite

4. Deirdre Flint - The Boob Fairy

5. Elvendrums - Shadows

6. Meg Davis - The Elf Glade

7. Nassau - Fairies

8. Caprice - Faeries Stole Bridget

9. Faun - Satyros

10. Omnia - Satyrsex

11. Kitaro - Flying Celestial Nymphs

12. S. What can I improve? What's been under-covered or over-done? Is there a theme or a style of music you'd like to hear? Is there something you'd like me to focus more or less on? Twahk ta me, twahk ta me! ;D

I've been pondering a few different themes for upcoming shows, n' I'd really love to get some feedback. :) How about a show all about featuring exclusively up-tempo, up-beat, Dance/Techno/Rave/Trance/House and/or EBM music? Or perchance something darker or heavier in style? I know I've got a few friends who really dig harder rock, and I've been looking about n' finding a few pieces that would really fit that Metallica-inspired, Grunge &/or Punk rock theme. ^_^

How about Spring-themed music? Something a little Pagan, w/talk of spring holidays, satyrs & Wiccan, old Celtic, Nature & seasonal inspirations, beliefs and practices? What about a show focused entirely on mythological or Fantasy creatures; like faeries, dragons, merfolk, etc.? (I could probably do a whole show each on the fae in one ep. and merfolk in another... ;D)

So what do you think? So many inspirations, so many potential directions to go! :D:D

Hope to hear from you all soon! Since my microphone woes have not quiiite yet been resolved (though a remedy is fast approaching on the horizon- with the help of UPS ;)), it occurred to me to try something new for a change, and put a little twist in the mix. What exactly? Well, I thought I might let my screen reader speak for me this time, as our temporary show announcer! ^_^ I thought it'd be something neat, new and unique, you know?

But in the end, I decided to go with the advice of a more seasoned podcaster. Therefore, in lieu of letting Jorgan the Electronic Voice Announcer speak up for me (to save you all from having to bear with my cruddy microphone), I chose to re-produce it, w/my own (hopefully pleasing & endearingly oddball) voice. :)

As for the rest of the show's content; a couple of weeks ago I got a "bee in my bonnet" to suddenly make an impromptu, relatively short podcast centered around all of these great bits of music that have not (as yet) fit into any particular show or theme on Eclectica. Therefore, they're the show's "anomalies" as it were. :) -This is NOT so say that these pieces or bands are weird or bizarre or freakish in any negative sense of the words. Not one bit. These artists & their music all rock considerably (otherwise, why the heck would I feature them here??). They are all just so good, their music could go just about anywhere. And thus, mehopes you see my problem. ;)

But I'll let the music speak to you for itself. :)

As always, if you have any thoughts or ideas you might like to relay to me regarding the show, I'd love to hear from you; my rockin' public. :D You can always feel free to contact me (via my new e-mail addy; djselchie@gmail.com) about programming, artists whom you might like to hear featured on Eclectica, etc., or for any other reason if you wish. And musicians, bands, recording artists etc. are (again, as per usual) most welcome to submit their music for potential use on the show. :)

Aaaanyhoo..! All that being said, on to the music!!
I truly hope you enjoy what you hear. ^_^

Hugs to All,
DJ Selchie

Track List

1. Metro Station Since my microphone woes have not quiiite yet been resolved (though a remedy is fast approaching on the horizon- with the help of UPS ;)), it occurred to me to try something new for a change, and put a little twist in the mix. :) As for the rest of the show's content; a couple of weeks ago I got a "bee in my bonnet" to suddenly make an impromptu, relatively short podcast centered around all of these great bits of music that have not (as yet) fit into any particular show or theme on Eclectica. And thus, mehopes you see my problem. ;) But I'll let the music speak to you for itself. :) As always, if you have any thoughts or ideas you might like to relay to me regarding the show, I'd love to hear from you; my rockin' public. :) Aaaanyhoo..! All that being said, on to the music!! I truly hope you enjoy what you hear. ^_^ Hugs to All, DJ Selchie Track List 1. Metro Station - California 2. Shanghai Restoration Project - Preface 3. The Silent Treatment - The Secret (Jamie) 4. Death Cab for Cutie - Title and Registration 5. The Sisters 3 - Gremlins 6. Bloc Party - Flux 7. My American Heart - The Shake (Awful Feeling) 8. Deastro - Shaded Forests 9. Wendy and Lisa - Invisible Many thanks to the artists who made this episode possible by making their music podsafe, Ioda PromoNet, The Podcast Music Network, Ariel Publicity, and the "We Are Not Cool" podcast. ^_^ You guys all rock!!</itunes:summary><itunes:keywords>diverse,diversity,music,songs,rock,pop,soul,r,B,jazz,spoken,word,storytelling,folk,dance,trance,celtic,irish,scottish,spanish,blues,goth,industrial,house,techno,latin,world,middle,eastern,worldbeat,blues,comedy,eclectic,radio</itunes:keywords>

<feedburner:origEnclosureLink>http://renaessance.com/Eclectica/eclectica-ep7-digitalanomalies.mp3</feedburner:origEnclosureLink>

Eclectica's Got a New E-Mail, Plus a New Companion Page!

Download the blurb about E's new info here. :)

From now on, if you'd like to contact Eclectica's hostess & resident creatrix (the wondrously bizarre miss DJ Selchie), you can do so via a brand new e-mail address!

djselchie@gmail.com

Wytherwiere@hotmail.com was just too long, complex n' hard to spell, so in order to facilitate greater hostess-listener interaction, a new gmail account has been created!!
The new e-mail account is already live (up & working), and the old one will be for at least a few weeks, just in case. And that if you don't, you might at least find some cheer w/the music in this show, and that you keep your heart and hope open for love soon to come. :):) ♥♥♥ -DJS </itunes:summary><itunes:keywords>diverse,diversity,music,songs,rock,pop,soul,r,B,jazz,spoken,word,storytelling,folk,dance,trance,celtic,irish,scottish,spanish,blues,goth,industrial,house,techno,latin,world,middle,eastern,worldbeat,blues,comedy,eclectic,radio</itunes:keywords>

<feedburner:origEnclosureLink>http://renaessance.com/Eclectica/eclecticas1stvday09.mp3</feedburner:origEnclosureLink>

Blooper, Anyone?

<img style="cursor: pointer; Love You, Nae P.S. -This episode is also dedicated to all of those who might be dealing with the loss of of a loved-one; as well as to the memories of those whom we've lost through years. May you always remember those who've passed and smile, and to those who've passed, may you always smile down upon the ones who remember you. :) Love Always, DJ Selchie Track List 1. Nita Whitaker - Heaven Holds the Ones I Love (Because it does. Far too many of them.) 2. Julianna Raye - Laughing Wild* (Remembering innocence, love, laughter and light...) 3. Joannie Madden - Women of Ireland* (Does this speak of pure joy, or pure grief? Or both?) 4. The Endparty - There is no Time* (Becuase there isn't. Life is far, far too short.) 5. Jen Foster - Underdogs (This sings of those who are different, & of people sticking together.) 6. Virginia Coalition - Sing Along (We need to lift each other up. not tear one another down.) 7. Farewell June - Shine On* (Because you should. :)) 8. Donna Lewis - Don't Ever (Cherish your own light as well. :)) 9. Gypsy Nomads - Summerland* (Journey across the Mists into another realm...) 10.Melissa Ferrick - Closer (Closer to Heaven? Perfection maybe? Or to our dreams perhaps?) 11. Hey Nunnie Nunnie - Duncan's Song* (I may have lost a "he," but the sentiments remain.) 12. Bing Crosby - Count Your Blessings (Again, because we should. :) It makes everything seem brighter.. even the toughest moments. ^_^) ...Here are some of the blessings featured in this Ep: Background Music: Denean - Passage to the Earth Mother Asterisks (*) indicate songs which were allowed to be played for Eclectica explicitly by the artist. Very, very special thanks & deepest gratitude go out to each of the artists who personally donated their wonderful music to the making of this particular episode. Also, kudos (as always) to the Podcast Music Network & Ioda Promo Net; for helping to make this episode possible. My grattitude also goes out to the Internet Music Archives, where I found the piece by Mr. Crosby. I especially wanted to put that song on this show, and I'm incredibly grateful to have been able to do so w/your help. Without these sources and the gracious allowance of the artists who gave permission for their music to be played here on Eclectica, I wouldn't have any music available to share w/anyone. So thank you, all. :):) Yours in Gratitude, DJ Selchie </itunes:summary><itunes:keywords>diverse,diversity,music,songs,rock,pop,soul,r,B,jazz,spoken,word,storytelling,folk,dance,trance,celtic,irish,scottish,spanish,blues,goth,industrial,house,techno,latin,world,middle,eastern,worldbeat,blues,comedy,eclectic,radio</itunes:keywords>

<feedburner:origEnclosureLink>http://renaessance.com/Eclectica/InHappyMemoryOfJeff.mp3</feedburner:origEnclosureLink>

E-4 is Here!!! ^_^ Just Dance!

I am SO proud of this one!:D

I figured a few tricks out w/Audacity, and this ep. doesn't have any major flubs or big issues like other previous ones have. I will NOT let that stop me from publishing all the fun, fantastic music I've compiled for this illustrious (if now past) occasion!

I've been bustin' my butt nights and weekends trying to put this crazy thing together, and I really hope you like what you hear. ^_^

I had to divide this super-sized episode into two parts, since when the whole thing was finished it ran a whopping hour and a half! (And there were still tracks I ended up omitting! O.O)

First off, as I spend much of each year garnering zombie music to play for the DC Zombie Lurch, we start this episode off with two spiffy songs that're zombie-related! :D Both come from the Podcast Music Network- (as do most of the songs I play here on Eclectica). :)

1. Jonathan Coulton - Re; Your Brains
2 Tom Smith - Undead Happy Trees

Next, a few fun tracks I encountered while scoping out the PMN; one which I don't truly think is about witches, and the other from a longtime favorite of mine- who's a master of the unusual, somewhat creepy, darker sound and wicked, wicked lyrics. ^_^

3. Bloc Party - Hunting for Witches
4. Tom Waits - How's it Going to End?

After that, I HAD to play something from a veritable icon in the Goth/spooky community- Voltaire! (I had the pleasure of seeing him live at CBGB's while I was spending some time in NYC, and he was super-nice. -After his performance I waited in line to speak to him, n' when it was my turn I relayed that I'd been having an uber-crappy day, and how much he'd made it better w/his awesome performance. What'd he do? He hugged me n' gave me a few bits of freebie merch to cheer me up. :):) What a good guy! :D:D)

After that comes a terribly appropriately-named band (well, at least where the holiday is concerned- but Hallowe'en or not- ya gotta love it! ;D), w/their even more appropos song "Halloween Girl." ..How could I resist?? ;D

5. Voltaire - When You're Evil (Permission given by the artist.)
6. Ghosts on the Radio - Halloween Girl

Next up, one of my all-time favorite comedians- and you cannot imagine how elated I was to find he had some of his stuff on IODA! :D:D This guy is insanely funny- as long as you're not easily offended. ;) After that, check out this wicked song in the movie "Dead and Breakfast." I've been searching & searching, gathering & re-gathering music for some time now; in anticipation of making a Hallowe'en episode for you, my dear listeners- and all the folks like me who just ADORE the holiday. ^_^ Unfortunately however, my job & my organization of a very large zombie event in DC prevented me from working on it as much as I'd have liked until -after- All Hallow's Eve. :( -But never fear! I will NOT let that stop me from publishing all the fun, fantastic music I've compiled for this illustrious (if now past) occasion! I've been bustin' my butt nights and weekends trying to put this crazy thing together, and I really hope you like what you hear. ^_^ I had to divide this super-sized episode into two parts, since when the whole thing was finished it ran a whopping hour and a half! (And there were still tracks I ended up omitting! O.O) First off, as I spend much of each year garnering zombie music to play for the DC Zombie Lurch, we start this episode off with two spiffy songs that're zombie-related! :D Both come from the Podcast Music Network- (as do most of the songs I play here on Eclectica). :) 1. Jonathan Coulton - Re; Your Brains 2 Tom Smith - Undead Happy Trees Next, a few fun tracks I encountered while scoping out the PMN; one which I don't truly think is about witches, and the other from a longtime favorite of mine- who's a master of the unusual, somewhat creepy, darker sound and wicked, wicked lyrics. ^_^ 3. Bloc Party - Hunting for Witches 4. :D:D) After that comes a terribly appropriately-named band (well, at least where the holiday is concerned- but Hallowe'en or not- ya gotta love it! ;D), w/their even more appropos song "Halloween Girl." ..How could I resist?? ;D 5. Voltaire - When You're Evil (Permission given by the artist.) 6. Ghosts on the Radio - Halloween Girl Next up, one of my all-time favorite comedians- and you cannot imagine how elated I was to find he had some of his stuff on IODA! :D:D This guy is insanely funny- as long as you're not easily offended. ;) After that, check out this wicked song in the movie "Dead and Breakfast." If you like silly or fun horror mixed w/a bit of conscious cheese and a liberal dose of humour, you're gonna love this flick- and the super music Zachariah supplies for it all throughout the film! :D 7. Stephen Lynch - Halloween (Courtesy of the Ioda PromoNet.) 8. Zachariah and the Lobos Rider - We're Comin' ta Kill Ya (Permission given by the artist.) Lastly (for this section of the ep. anyway), we have a seriously spooky tale told by a very talented storyteller, whom I've had the pleasure of seeing on a few occassions. Well, I've always wanted to spin music, have a DJ name n' be all "professional," and as I've always hated my first name, and am in the process of changing it, I thought it'd be better to publish my podcast (as well as do anything professionally musical unless it's singing my own original songs) under a destinctive, very special and uniquely illustrative pseudonym. (..A pen name, a nome de plume, a "professional name," etc.)

As I'm a HUGE water-baby,as well as a total mermaid & selchie fan, I thought I'd name myself after one of these... Since I've got Scottish and Irish blood, as well as features many have noted as being seal or selchie-like (such as big, dark eyes, long, dark hair, being more awkward on land than I am in the water, etc.), because I love faerie folklore and am a dweller of both land and a lover of the sea, I thought the selchie would be most appropriate. :)

Now, I know most folks will look at my DJ moniker and erroneously pronounce it "sel'-chee," but dernit, slapping a "k" in there where I was tuaght (through admittedly what little Gaelic training I have) a "ch" should be just doesn't look (or feel) right to me. So I stayed in keeping w/one of the older (and one of the many variations of) the original, Gaelic spellings. :) So just turn that "ch" sound into that of a "k," and you've got it right down pat. ^_^

I hope it doesn't throw too many people for a loop, and that you all dig the new name. As I'm a huge fan of the mythic, ethereal & mystical, as well as fantasy & the generally fantabulous, I hope this name will suit me well, as well as the wonderful tunes I hope to spin- and do credit to the beautifyl fae-seal maidens from whom I have gotten this moniker. :)

Many, many thanks to y'all for your help & support, & I hope you like what you hear!!

With Love,
DJ Selchie

I'm so Sorry

An old friend of mine has passed away suddenly, and I just wanted to say "goodbye, I wish I'd known you better, and that I wish so much that I'd kept closer with you over the years. You are a remarkable person, and I'm sorry for not talking to you more. Thank you for your many gifts- most of all being just your friendship."

I've known Jeff since I was about five, and my mom loves telling people how I always used to call him "my first boyfriend" when I was little. I went to school w/him as a little kid, played "Beep Ball" w/him as I was growing up; and was always amazed at fucking funny he could be, and how truly frigging SMART the man was. As the years went by (and I tried harder and harder to be "cool") though, I didn't keep in very good contact with him. And I should have. He came to a few of my birthday parties over the years, but I never really talked to him beyond those events we were together much, & my mom kept in touch w/him every six months or so-. which si more than I ever did. Well this morning I got the word that Jeff had suddenly passed away, and after a time of total shock, it's been like a bomb hit me. Fortunately my mom & I were able to go to his funeral. & that funeral home was PACKED with about three to four hundred people. Apparently Jeff was extremely spiritual, sang for his friends to make them happy, & served as a chairman on committees for disabled rights and advocacy. And all of this was news to me. I found out about many parts of his life I didn't know before, and I saw what an impact he made on others' lives, and just wanted to leet him know, here, in some way- if he can see this now- how much he touched mine. Jeff Watkins had a lot of physical problems, but he was one of the smartest people I'll ever know, and one of the bravest and strongest as well. He did a lot of amazing things, and I'm sorry I didn't know him better. I'm so grateful to have known him in the ways I did. He's blessed my life in more ways than I could possibly express.

Jeff, I'll miss you, and hope that wherever you are, you're happy, whole, and free.

Love Always.

http://renaessance.com/Eclectica/eclectica-requestformoretimeinhonourofjeff.mp3

<itunes:explicit>no</itunes:explicit><itunes:subtitle>An old friend of mine has passed away suddenly, and I just wanted to say "goodbye, I wish I'd known you better, and that I wish so much that I'd kept closer with you over the years. You are a remarkable person, and I'm sorry for not talking to you more. Thank you for your many gifts- most of all being just your friendship." I've known Jeff since I was about five, and my mom loves telling people how I always used to call him "my first boyfriend" when I was little.
