Rachna Gilmore is a best-selling, Governor General’s award winning author of eighteen (and counting...) children’s picture books, early readers and novels, with multiple awards and honours.

Her children’s novels include the popular fantasy novel, The Sower of Tales, (winner 2006 National Chapter IODE Violet Downey Award; nominated Red Maple Book Award, Manitoba Young Reader’s Choice Award; Canadian Children’s Book Centre Our Choice); A Group of One, (Honor Book, Jane Addams Children’s Book Award; New York Public Library’s Books for the Teen Age List, Bank Street College of Education The Best Children’s Books of the Year); Mina’s Spring of Colors, (short-listed for Silver Birch Award, Hackmatack Children’s Choice Award; Canadian Children’s Book Centre Our Choice). Her picture book titles include the acclaimed Gita trilogy and the Governor General’s award winner, A Screaming Kind of Day.

Rachna’s latest picture books are Making Grizzle Grow (2007), Grandpa’s Clock, (2006), and When-I-was-a-little-girl, (2006; originally published in 1989, and re-issued with new illustrations).

Sold internationally, Rachna’s books have been translated into French, Danish, German, Korean, Spanish, Catalan, Urdu, Bengali, Chinese, Arabic, as well as several other languages. She also writes adult fiction under the pseudonym Rachna Mara.

Born in India, Rachna has lived in London England, Prince Edward Island, and now lives in Ottawa where she continues to plark (play, work and lark) at her weird and wonder-filled tales. Upcoming books include a middle grade novel, The Trouble with Dilly (2009), and the picture books Catching Time (2009) and The Flute (2010).
