Earlier in the month Climate Justice Montreal organized a full day of workshops, panels and collective strategizing to discuss how to build resistance and alternatives to a pipeline that would transport dirty Alberta tar sand oil through Quebec. We will bring you sound clips from this Day of Action and an interview from Cam Fenton, National Director of the Canadian Youth Climate Coalition.

An inter-faculty debate was organized by the Green Business Awards Project, EnActUs McGill and the David Suzuki Foundation. Listen to Part 2 of the debate when the participants respond to the question:

“What are the pros and cons of genetically modified organisms in agriculture in terms of policy, health or environmental effects?”

Of those responding you will hear Caroline Begg, a researcher in plate science at McGill University. The other debater present was Holly Dressel, co-author of many books with David Suzuki and and adjunct professor at the McGill Environment School finally the last voice present is Jonathan Glen Cross, a McGill Alumni who founded the Office of Sustainability at McGill University.

Finally, we finish the show off with a live in-studio interview with David Summerhays, a representative from the ongoing Divest McGill Campaign.

The Midnight Kitchen held an Anti-Capitalism and Environmental Justice Organizing workshop. Hear clips from some of the insightful and inspirational speakers who led the workshop.

We were joined in the studio with McGill Alumni David Summerhays. He speaks about McGill’s involvement with the Tar Sands and the ongoing campaign to stop McGill University from investing in Fossil Fuels and Plan Nord. Sign the PETITION!

Finally, we aired Part 1 of the Canadian Youth Delegations first podcast, which is composed of recordings gathered at the Power Shift Conference in late October. With enough persistence, Nadia managed to score an interview and attend press conferences with former CLASSE spokesperson Gabriel Nadeau Dubois, and leading environmentalist, Bill McKibben.

In just a few days Nadia will be attending the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Doha, Qatar with the Canadian Youth Delegation. Hear part 2 of the CYD podcast on our next collective episode December 11th!

Sabina, Michelle and Alessandra on the microphones, live on the air in CKUT’s broadcast studio!

Members of The Plate Club, a reusable dishware provider service of the Students Society of McGill University, took over Ecolibrium on November 6th. They produced and hosted a full show that covered a wide range of topics.

The show featured an interview from a local student run-organization, Reboot McGill, to discuss how their actions respond to the problem of electronic waste on a micro-level scale.

Throughout the show, the birth, life and death of a Styrofoam plate is explained. Programmers also had the chance to speak with fellow McGill students and explored some of their conceptions of styrofoam.

The show includes a clip about the waste management system on McGill campus and in Canada from a conference and interview with Canadian Researcher Myra Hird.

Finally, a local Montreal musician and Plate Club Member Jess Roz does an amazing live in-studio performance!

The Ecolibrium Collective put together a show for October 23rd!

The show featured an interview with the Business and Human Rights Coordinator, Ian Heide, from Amnesty International Canada. Ian spoke with Shon about Amnesty International’s ongoing campaign to promote ethical business practices within an international corporate environment.

Melissa and Shon had the opportunity to attend the End of Growth Tour talk given by environmentalist David Suzuki and economic Jeff Rubin on October 15th 2012. Shon gives a detailed report on some of the important points that were brought up during the evening.

Members of the Montreal Raging Grannies joined us live in the studio for an on-air performance of their songs about the environment. They also spoke to us about their Old, Bold and Beautiful Calendar for the year 2013!

Finally, we aired the second part of Will Allen’s lecture on Growing Power and the urban agriculture movement that is providing local and sustainable food to a wide network of town and cities across the United States

Nancy, Helen and Sheila of the Montreal Raging Grannies who performed live during the show and talked about their work and life as full-time activists and grand-mothers!

Will Allen, who has been named one of TIME Magazine’s top 100 people of 2012, he is the CEO of Growing Power and visited Montreal in August to speak on the urban agriculture Green Revolution and people-powered food security movement.
