So, when the chips are down, just observe your feelings as they come. If you find yourself fretting or yelling, you have been hijacked emotionally and will lose friends and battles. If not, creative responses will emerge.

Keep at itMSD teased Ravi Shashtri by saying, “If we had lost, many questions — why Sreeshanth, why did I bat before Yuvraj — would have been asked.” His getting into the middle of a battle shows he loves challenges and does not bother with incessant advice from ex-greats. Like Anil Kumble, who shared at his retirement that he ignored all criticism during his lean period and persisted, our captain also practices ‘dogged perseveration with risk-taking’. BACKGROUND

Reduction in cycle time & machining cost plays an important role in enhancing productivity especially in large volume production. In the highly competitive market scenario, customers determine the price of a product and entrepreneurs need to continuously fine tune the costs to realize profits. Machine utilization has a major impact in reducing the manufacturing cost of components. Most CNC machines are underutilized with only 20% time effectively spent in cutting & the rest in non-value adding operations.

Although the material cost cannot be reduced, the cycle time & machining cost can be reduced drastically. Reducing cycle time requires eliminating or reducing non-value-added activity. CNC stand for Computer Numerical Control, and refers specifically to the computer control of machine tools. The main purpose of CNC Milling Machines is to repeatedly manufacture complex parts in metal as well as other materials, using a specially coded program. Gene defect linked to peanut allergy in children'

Scientists have identified a gene defect that can triple a child’s risk of developing peanut allergy, a discovery which they say can lead to new treatments for the life-threatening condition.

An international team, led by researchers from the University of Dundee, studied defects in the gene, called Filaggrin, and found that children with the defect can be thrice more likely to suffer peanut allergy, than those with normal Filaggrin.

The gene, which is carried by more than 10 per cent of people, has already been shown to be a factor in causing eczema and asthma, the Daily Mail reported.

Peanut allergy, which affects about two per cent of children in the UK alone, can be life-threatening. The number of people affected by the condition has increased dramatically over the past 20 to 30 years, but the causes of the allergy are unknown, the researchers said.

Dr. Sara Brown, a fellow at Dundee University, said, “It was a logical next step to investigate whether Filaggrin may also be a cause of peanut allergy, since a child may develop all three of these diseases together.”

“Allergic conditions often run in families, which tell us that inherited genetic factors are important. In addition to that, changes in the environment and our exposure to peanuts are thought to have been responsible for the recent increase in peanut allergy seen in the Western world in particular.”

“Now, for the first time, we have a genetic change that can be firmly linked to peanut allergy.”

According to the researchers, the Filaggrin gene helps build barriers in the skin to protect the body against irritants and allergens.

Changes in the gene decrease the effectiveness of this barrier, allowing substances to enter the body and leading to a range of allergies.

The study found that one in five of all peanut allergy sufferers has Filaggrin defect. Those with the defect can be three times more likely to suffer peanut allergy than people with normal Filaggrin.

The collaboration looked at 1,300 people in four different population groups in Canada, England, Ireland and the Netherlands.

Scientists said it was the first time that any genetic association with peanut allergy has been demonstrated in more than one population, making it more likely to be a “genuine risk factor”.

The biggest challenge Indian educational system faces today, is employability. The country has the largest pool of educated youth, well educated yet unfortunately unemployable, and
University trained engineers lack the "feel" of how the things are made and how they fit together. They lack shop floor experience, hindering their ability to program CNC machines.
In order to equip the students with practical inputs, hands-on training in production CNC machinery, CAD/CAM systems and other accessories, is made as a part of the curriculum. Industry visits will be organised to get the real life experience of actual production environment.
The Training Methodology incorporates: training in a modern digital factory; class room sessions; measuring practice in instruments and CMM; programming examples and exercises; simulation using SINUTRAIN systems; hands-on training sessions in CNC turning centre, CNC VMC and CAD/CAM programming systems; real time machining of industry level components in CNC machines; and industry visits and project work.
The industry has welcomed the move. "This course will lay a very strong foundation for the young engineers as the training is based on "Learn by doing" method. It will increase the confidence and employability of the fresh engineers to take up challenging jobs in the manufacturing industries, " said Mr T R Parasuraman, Senior Vice President - HR, Toyota Kirloskar Auto Parts Private Limited. Adds Mr F R Singhvi, Joint Managing Director, Sansera Engineering Private Limited, "This course will be a good interface between educational institutions and the manufacturing industries. It will help the Engineering student in practically understanding various aspects of machining thereby helping the manufacturing industries in employing engineers who could be useful from day one of joining."

'e-Post office' becomes a reality in India

NEW DELHI, INDIA: Communications Minister Kapil Sibal on Wednesday launched the 'e-Post Office' – the e-commerce portal of India Post which will provide postal transaction and tracking facilities to customers online, a statement said.

The portal will enable the customers to transact postal business any time and from anywhere using debit or credit cards.

"In the changing word, the ways we live are changing. Launch of e-Post is a step in this direction offering a bouquet of services to the consumers. This is in line with shift in marketing trend of service provider reaching the consumers," Sibal said.

The services offered by e-Post are electronic money order, instant money order, sale of philatelic stamps, postal information, and tracking of express and international shipments.NEW DELHI, INDIA: Telecoms Minister Kapil Sibal said on Tuesday he and other government officials met with industry officials to discuss various 2G-spectrum related issues.

During the meeting Sibal urged telecom operators to sort out their differences on the issue of spectrum allocation. He discussed the issues ranging from spectrum sharing, merger and acquisition, annual spectrum usage charge and rising disputes among the telecom firms.

"A range of issues were discussed. There were about 15 points that were on the table," Sibal told reporters. "Our effort is to take the stakeholders on board."

India is overhauling its decade-old telecoms policy in a bid to make the world's fastest-growing mobile market more transparent, after the sector was hit by scandal involving below-market price grant of licences and radio airwaves that a state auditor said caused revenue loss of up to $39 billion.

India's telecoms regulator, TRAI, had proposed steep rises in the price of second-generation (2G) mobile radio waves, drawing criticism from carriers Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Essar who could pay hundreds of millions of dollars more.
©Reuters A statement of intent was signed in this regard between the Department of Posts and the UIDAI in the presence of Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal and UIDAI chairman Nandan Nilekani.

“This is not a tactical, but a strategic partnership, where UIDAI will leverage the existing infrastructure of the DoP to reach out to the masses for providing UID,” a PTI report quoted UIDAI Chairman Nandan Nilekani as saying while signing the agreement.

The Department of Post has offered to include one-and-a-half-lakh post offices for this purpose initially. The UIDAI has floated a request for quotation to finalise the agency that will set up and manage infrastructure for registration and distribution of UID cards at these post offices.

UIDAI Director General and Mission Director R S Sharma said that the RFQ will be opened in the next couple of days.

On the occasion, Sibal said the tie up was a step in the direction of the Government's resolve to bring about inclusive development in the country. He said this is a great moment in the history of India as the empowerment of villagers will take place through post offices. Post Office is the centre of activity for village community.

Sibal said India Post has geared itself to undertake this huge responsibility with due care and diligence. Delivery of AADHAAR to each resident will be available for tracking and confirmation.

“Empowerment of the man on the street is part of the agenda of any government committed to inclusive development. This is a step that will ensure the implementation of the agenda of inclusive development,” said Sibal.
