Waking Up To A Great Cup of Coffee

I feel funny running a "real life product endorsement" here on this blog but why not? I woke up very early today and had a great cup of coffee (I actually drank an entire pot). It was Holland's Douwe Egbert, which is the best coffee I have ever tasted anywhere.

Unlike Starbucks, and other name American brands, Douwe Egbert, which I started drinking when I lived in Holland, does not taste acrid or bitter. It simply has more taste to it. It rolls very sweet and pleasant on your tongue without added sugar. Frankly, it seems that the American brands and coffee shops are using cheaper beans, and the Dutch buyers are getting first crack at quality. I can even say that you haven't tasted coffee unless you go to Europe and try it over there.

There are many places on the web which sell this. I paid about $90.00 U.S. for twelve 8.8 ounce boxes, including shipping, which isn't all that bad for a luxury- about the same as purchasing good old Starbucks at my local supermarket. I like "Excellent" above which costs a bit more than the other kinds -- but to be honest, it all tastes way better than the stuff you get in the good old USA.

Try to purchase this on Ebay or Amazon for protection -- Amazon has several good offers and makes your life easier in case of delivery problems, which I have never actually had with purchases from coffee mail order companies.

Jago and I celebrated Australia Day at home this evening. Jago hails from State of Queensland in Australia, home of great surfing, Coral Reefs, and the pretty city of Brisbane, and although I live in Florida I think I'm an honorary Aussie by now.

Jago headed off to go to the beach and see some Australia Day fireworks in Real life, and I called it an evening back here in Florida -- but managed to get a nice Aussie kiss to see my off for the night.

I did this You Tube photo montage of hot Aussie football jocks last year, and am running it again in honor of Australia Day. Happy Austrlia Day to all my mates in Second Life, and most importantly my partner Jago, who hail from down under. Anthony Callea (who is very out) sings the national anthem "Advance Australia Fair", something he does at most major Aussie sports events these days.

Good News to Report about Kharrisa Indigo - And My Mom

There has been much terrible news in our Second Life LGBT community lately. We have lost some great residents lately who were loved by many, including Cool Jonesford and Publisher Fabrice Snook. In addition, several of us have lost someone very close --- I will not list them here, because some of this information is personal. But all in all, the past month has been a hard time for many.

I do have some good news to share.

Kharrisa Indigo, who is a great part our community, adored by many, and active in organizations like Second Pride -- had a health scare that required her to be in the hospital for a while earlier in January. Kharrisa was inworld yesterday and was partying at Regi Yifu's surprise party with many of us, and sounded great when she was talking to me.

This is a huge relief-- that Kharrisa is inworld and doing well.

La Doce Vita

On another note, my Mom who lives near me in Florida, is coming home today. On December 15, I had to rush my mom into the hospital with major breathing problems and chest pain. . She needed emergency open heart surgery- for about six hours -- some really big stuff-- and a long recovery after.

She has not only survived the surgery, she has done so with flying colors, and is coming home this morning for the first time since then. She appears to have made a great recovery, which is a tremendous relief for me. This explains my absence from Second Life, particularly in the evenings, for a while.

I have been taking care of her nasty cat who doesn't like me that me that much for six weeks, and it will be relief not having to feed the little princess every day and take care of her litter box.

Just clean my box and feed me Eddi - Don't even try to come close!

BTW - that is not my mom above, but Sophia Lauren. You don't expect me to run her real picture here, do you?

So, there is some good to report along with the bad news.

Ryce Skytower finished up Monday night at Spurt beach, continuing with DJ Regi Yifu's birthday celebration -- which he himself JD's. Between the party at Regi's own club earlier that evening, and the later party at Spurt Beach, well over 300 people turned out to wish Regi a happy birthday over the course of the evening.

Truly a great celebration for someone in Second Life who puts so much of himself out so that others will have a great time.

My Square Trade Warranty Pays Out

My "bargain" desktop computer. It was fun while it lasted!

Those of you who follow my personal computer exploits here may remember that I bought a bargain "high end" Gateway refurbished "high-end" computer here last July for under $500.00 off Ebay. It came with a high-end graphics card and a good processor, etc. It was quite a deal and was about to run Second Life at ultra settings for seven non-stop months.

Well, guess what, this computer popped and fizzled on New Year's eve. It did not just "pop and fizzle", its power supply basically exploded and sparked out and destroyed my entire "bargain" in the process.

Rule number 1 about computers-- don't expect a 300 watt power supply (what this computer came with) to push a machine that has a high-end graphics card (which Gateway added) non-stop for 7 months and not burn out in the process. I can hear DJ InsyX who warned me about this cracking up right now.

My refurbished computer only came with a 90 day warranty. Most refurbished computers, which are sold from manufacturers, do not come with full one year warranty.

They Paid Out as Promised

Lucky for me, as I reported here, I purchased an inexpensive Square Trade Warranty at the same time I purchased this computer. I have been purchasing Square Trade Warranties for many years on the advice of others.

Well, it was time to put Square Trade through the test. Here is how the conversation went:

Eddi: "Hi, this is Eddi Haskell (my real name actually was used). My computer blew up and I need to have it replaced".

Charming Square Trade Person: "Oh, no! Well we have to get it fixed. Can you drop it off at a repair shop and have them send us the bill? Most of them work with us".

Eddi: "OK, but are you sure its worth it? The computer was under $500.00, and I am sure the motherboard is gone together with the memory, and perhaps the graphics card as well. It will cost more in parts to get this thing fixed than to buy a new one, and you will have to pay the repair shop anyway. Why not just let me get a new one?"

Charming Square Trade Person: "OK, that will work. Would you like us to mail you a check, refund your money in Paypal, or give you an Amazon Gift Card for the full amount you paid plus an extra 5% bonus".

Eddi: "You are joking. Is this it? I expected this call to be more difficult".

So that is it. Very easy.

I bought a new much better Gateway / Acer Computer refurb with a 750 watt power supply and running one of Intel's best Sandy Bridge I-7 processors. Bock McMillan and Insyx, you are both correct, Second Life seems to run alot more smooth with Intel products.

My New Computer Looks Cool - The Gateway 6803

My new Gateway 6803 PC costs $650.00 from Ascendtech- It was rated the best mass market gaming desktop in late 2010 when it costs $1500.00 new. It is a killer computer, and runs Second Life in ultra seamlessly with no lag whatsoever on any viewer I choose to use.

There is one just like it on sale today here at Ascendtech, they have several Gateway 6803's and 6840's on sale today from $600 - $700, along with a gorgeous and similarly configured Acer Predator gaming desktop for $650.00 that will sell out immediately. Make sure the graphics card is the ATI 5850, and not one with a lower number when you buy these. Note that my new computer did not come with a mouse or keyboard, just the computer and nothing else -- which is fine for me at this price.

Ascendtech was easy to work with and shipped my new computer out immediately.

However, they only come with a 30-day warranty. You will need to get a one or two year Square Trade Warranty to play things safe -- just in case you have a problem like I did.

Governor of the State of Maryland to Introduce Gay Marriage Legislation Tomrrow

Very Cool Maryland Flag

Governor O'Malley of the State of Maryland, the state with the coolest state flag in the United States and the home of the City of Baltimore, will introduce Gay Marriage legislation tomorrow. Marriage equality almost passed last year, but was held up in the Maryland house because of concerns of religious protection. The new law that Governor O'Malley will propose will built full protection for any religious institution or clergy member that does not wish to participate in same-sex marriage.

Maryland would become the first traditionally "Southern" state to approve gay marriage. Maryland lies on the Southern Side of the Mason-Dixon Line, the line that used to separate the North from the South.

Maryland has a population of almost six million people, and is the richest state in the United States on a per-capita basis. It is also has a solid record with voting with the Democratic Party. However, what is holding up voting rights is the power of local churches, which oppose the measure.

Maryland will join the States of Washington and New Jersey in possibly approving same-sex marriage this year. The New Jersey Legislature just might generate a veto-proof majority of 67% that will overide conservative Republican governor Chris Christie's threat to veto any marriage equality legislation.

In Memorium Cool Jonesford Who Passed Away On Sunday Morning

Cool Jonesford, known to his SL friends as Craig, passed away Sunday morning.

Cool was a personal friend and a fellow Floridian-- he was also a very nice guy, and someone who I used to like to visit with in Second Life. I know that Cool was suffering from some health issues last year, and could not come on for a while. I was very saddened today when I found out about his passing. Jago and I want to wish his family and his long term SL partner fun4aquarius our sympathies and prayers right now.

We will miss you Cool. Your memories will last with your friends for a long time.

NakedCarl got started as a blogger on April 1 of last year. He was photographing clubs and events semi-incognito, which is how I like to photograph- since some of the best photographs of Second Life residents are candid and non-staged. I remember giving NakedCarl advice -- to concentrate on photographing Second Pride in May of last year since it would be a good way to build readership quickly

He did take my advice, and to date he has over 35,000 pageviews, which is excellent for blog's first 9 months. It actually took this blog over 10 months to reach this number. If you can keep up with your blogging, growth tends to be exponential after your first year.

I would like to see NakedCarl photography more of himself -- he has a unique masculine look that I like. I also want to do a studio set of him. Whenever I mention this to him he tells me that he needs to work on his avatar more, which makes no sense since his avatar is plenty hot right now. If I was not partnered to the love of my Second Life, Jago Constantine, I would be exploring this concept even more, but us married guys need to watch what we do and write in public (I can hear the groans right now).
