The notable difference between SearchMe and other search engines is that the results are in visual format along with other tools embedded along with the big picture of the results page, the coolness factor has me impressed a bit, but that could well be because I love the very same feature in iTunes and have been used to the interface (which uncannily looks and feels the same).Incidentally SearchMe is developed with Adobe® Flex 3® software in collaboration with Adobe.

Well, who can forget the bumbling adventures of inspector Jacques Clouseua in the eternal 'Pink Panther" movie-series. I for one, have not missed any of the sequels thus far but when I happened to stumble upon this page ,yeah you're right, I was taken aback. What we have here is a character called 'Sophie' ,played by none other than Aishwarya Rai Bachchan (bear in mind the movie is in production/awaiting release).In the movie Rai plays one of the detectives alongside Alfred Molina. The pair joins forces with French police detective Jacques Clouseau, played by Steve Martin, to catch the thief who has been stealing artifacts around the world.During film breaks, Aishwarya, 33, hung around the set with hubby-of-four-months Abhishek Bachchan. Slowly by surely, Rai is making her way through Hollywood. She has an even bigger role in her next film Singularity, a war drama co-starring Brendan Fraser. So, for the first time an Indian-lady will be involved in the famous series and I'm sure, as always, the movie will put on a blockbuster show for all of us and I can be seen eagerly waiting for it. Now, this came to me as a surprise, considering Google Inc. (Public, NASDAQ: GOOG) owns and operates Blogger , I’d assume they would have been doing this since Blogger was bought over (incidentally Blogger was created by Pyra Labs, which was bought by Google in 2003.) but it seems they were not doing it due to some folder name nomenclature or something like that.

Well, as of this December (2007), now they have gotten it right and also have made Picasa web to work with their indexing spiders but the flip side to this is that photos uploaded to Picasa prior to August 2006 are lost to Indexing but I guess they will work a solution to rectify that.

Firefox & Sunbird Add-On - Minimize to Tray

Ever wanted to minimize Mozilla applications to system-tray rather than taskbar?well, looks like it was all there but I was just not looking.

Here is the extension for Firefox -installs from your add-on console - No problems,works splendid.

The problem really was for the Sunbird (current version) to minimize to tray, looks like the default extension available will only work for Sunbird: 0.2 – 0.3.1 versions.The work around for this is below...

Download the extension for Sunbird here, do not install (right-click and download the file to your PC).
Modify the saved file extension to .rar or .zip
Extract the file contents maintaining the file structure.
Open the extracted folder to edit the file 'install.rdf' with 'notepad'
Inside the 'install.rdf' file replace 0.3 to 0.7 - Save
Compress folder and rename file extension to .xpi
Open Sunbird and install the Add-on

Worked like a charm.Find more Mozilla add-ons here. Also there is this enhancer you may want to try. This version contains some new features. The first in to minimize Firefox/Thunderbird/Sunbird on start. And the second is starting the program with windows. These two together produce a turbo starter.

iDesktop.tv, originally known as YouTube Desktop is a web-based interface for viewing videos from YouTube in a desktop-like environment provided by a company called 3^rd Eye Solutions in the UK, that’s right not in the USA. To find out more about them go to the parent company website

iDesktop lets you do more than YouTube can and also allows for more flexibility inclusive of multiple media file types. But this is definitely not the only PLUS for the site.

To start off you could use the "import user from YouTube" feature which will ask you for an existing YouTube username and will add this user's playlists and favourite videos to the iDesktop.tv account. If there are two playlists with the same name on YouTube and iDesktop.tv the videos will be added to the same playlist instead of creating new one.

Lets me consider the Pros first and then later below I will list out the cons as well…

Pros…

You have the liberty of a "pop out player" feature (the blue button in the top right corner of the player). It opens new browser window and loads the videos in a simplified version of the player so you can drag the player onto the second display. You can even have it in full screen or even play on a wide screen format.
Supports the most common browsers - Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 (version 6 also works but has some bugs), Opera 9 and Safari 3.
You can load your favourite music videos and play them in background Yes, you can. You can load them in the player and minimize it. If you have set "pause on minimize" to off in the settings, the video playback will continue so you will hear the audio and continue browsing for more videos. You can even add the videos from the results to the minimized player by dragging and dropping them over its thumbnail in the tray.
Lists the last 50 videos played in your account, so you can always come back and see your complete history in the event you did not mark one in your playlists.
Play videos in full screen /wide screen format,Yes, and not only that. While playing videos you will notice a few icons for selecting video aspect ratio. You can choose from 4:3, 16:9 (wide screen), video's default (the aspect ratio of the uploaded video) or custom. Custom will resize the video to fit the player so resizing it you will change the video's size.
Has the widest and most common video format, used for different devices like…
- AVI - the most common format for watching videos on PC, using Microsoft MPEG4v2 with MP3 quality audio on almost any device.
- MP4 - Apple video format, supported by iPod, iPhone and other video playing devices and software
- MOV - Apple Quick Time video format
- WMV - Microsoft Windows Media Video - old video format supported by all Microsoft Windows operating systems.
- 3GP - video format, supported by most mobile devices, such as phones, but with low audio and video quality.
- 3GP2 - version of 3GP with better audio and video quality, supported by most mobile phones and other devices
- FLV - flash video format - suitable for the web, for example - embedding the downloaded video in your own site
- EXE - standalone EXE player with the downloaded video built in it. For PC's only. No additional software or player required. Good for presentations.
- ZIP - this is actually the EXE, but compressed in ZIP archive
Uses Google API's to access their Google-Videos as well.
Unlimited FREE viewing
Unlimited download (for registered users)

Here are a few of the Cons though…

Supports only the listed browsers above and only in latest versions and users have to upgrade to the current version.
Cannot watch video channels that are on YouTube
iDesktop.TV is only for watching, browsing and downloading through YouTube's videos. The site depends on YouTube's API's which do not support functions like uploading or commenting.

Flickr releases the ‘Beta test Flickr Uploadr 3.0’Flickr releases the ‘Beta test Flickr Uploadr 3.0’Flickr has launched (on Nov 20^th) the public testing of their Beta release of the Uploadr tool.

Now, I was using their old uploadr for sometime now and was very limited , rather, could only re-size and upload pictures but the new release gives more detailed control over photos before they're uploaded and have managed to fix several other issues.

Choosing the right anti-virus – why it is more imperative today than ever

This domino effect has made an average user today to sit up and take suitable steps to protect and use a rock-hard anti-virus package updated regularly.

A typical attack will generally use system vulnerabilities to bypass the user and launch code automatically, dramatically reducing the 'lead time' between the appearance of a new threat and it reaching widespread magnitude. There's absolutely no question that today's threats are faster and frequent than ever before. Where it used to take weeks, or even months, for a virus to achieve widespread circulation, today's threats can achieve worldwide distribution in hours - riding on the back of email, P2P clients,

The number of new threats continues to grow steadily, with several hundred new threats appearing every day. As outlined above, many of today's threats are a composite 'bundle' containing different types of threat. Malicious code writers have at their disposal a wide-ranging malware 'menu'. Alongside the 'traditional' threat from viruses, there are now email and Internet worms, Trojans and various other types of threat. Often a virus or worm will drop a Trojan backdoor onto the infected system. This allows remote control of the machine by the author of the virus or worm, or by whoever has 'leased' the Trojan from them for spam propagation or other malicious purposes. Or the code may include a Trojan downloader, specifically designed to pull down malicious code from a remote site - perhaps an update to the virus or worm. Then again, it may include a Denial-of-Service (DoS) attack, designed to bring down a particular web site.

Anti-virus products have become increasingly sophisticated over the years, to deal with the growing complexity of viruses, worms Trojans and other malicious code. This includes proactive detection mechanisms designed to find new, unknown threats even before they first appear in the field. Nevertheless, regular updating of anti-virus protection is more important than ever before, given the speed at which today's threats are able to spread. That's why anti-virus vendors have sought to reduce the time interval between virus definition updates, from quarterly, to monthly, to weekly and finally to daily updates. And Kaspersky Lab now provides updated virus definition files every hour on the hour.

email 'forwards' and 'chain-mails'- is there any rationale?

Personally I find “forwards” very and I mean VERY Annoying

First of all you are annoying most of your friends by passing all that junk on and if they are your true friends and would like to remain so please exclude them from you ‘cc’ list.

It’s true. I don’t care about the cute animated cartoon with the dancing baby singing some parody of “Tiny Bubbles” in the bathtub.

I’ve got to the point now with some of my friends that every time I see their name pop up I know I’m just going to hit “Delete”.

I can’t tell you how annoying it was to wait for a huge attachment to download only to find it was some nonsense when I still have tons of other work.

There is enough spam out there already. Don’t add to it by sending junk to me.

Poking around researching this, I found Break the Chain. They’ve got a good take on why you shouldn’t be forwarding on petitions, virus warnings and such.

If a spammer gets one of those forwards you send me, they can add everyone of those email addresses to their mailing list because they are all right there for the world to see in the body of the email.

So by hitting forward, you might be causing your friends to get more spam.

The moral of this mid-day story I am posting for you guys is this. If you can’t overcome the compulsion to forward stuff to bunches of your friends, at the very least use the BCC function and Blind Carbon Copy them all. That way at least my email address is hidden and the only one the spammers will see is yours.

What a novel idea for a scam - Indian Rupee Sold on eBay

Just an hour back today , I was researching on how much a "REICHSBANK 1000 MARK BERLIN APRIL 1910" currency will cost in today's world , since I have in my possession quite a few of these currency notes passed on by my late grandfather who was in the air force and a world war veteran.

Well, you are right to think that I am now, going to write a extensive and dreary report on the particular currency but you are wrong and this article is far away from that, well, I on a casual search stumbled upon the eBay coins and paper money page and was stunned when I came across this page where people are selling Indian currency at an exorbitant prices in US dollars.

Typically, I would have read the ludicrous claims and gone ahead with my work but what I saw in this page had me quite stunned and up in laughter for more than thirty minutes and it got me thinking about how gullible people have us believe in eBay.

Well, to get into the nitty-gritty let me take the example of this bloke who is selling a 100 Rupee (1996) note for US $6.29, in reality this note is in circulation today and the real-world value is only US $2.54, that’s a PROFIT of US $3.75.

Well, here are some of the other stupid offers up for gullible people , on eBay , who want to buy 'over-valued" Indian currency…(All the following currency are valid and currently in circulation and are being used),
