It is also the time of year that Edit New York fills with our well-Edited Resort collections, which at first glance, seem absurdly disconnected from the reality of sleet and hail and 30 degree highs.

But I will share one of my favorite secrets . . . Many designers have their greatest bursts of creativity for their resort collections.  This is the time of year the designers create small capsule collections of perfect summer and destination clothing.  This is the time of year to buy that perfect well-Edited summer piece which you could wear if you plan to travel to the beach soon or happily tuck away in your closet until summer wraps back around.

Some of my favorite summer clothes are the resort pieces I have bought in December.  During summer people often stop me on the street to ask where I found such an amazing item.  But of course, these perfect pieces are long gone from Edit by July.

Speaking of the summer, the Resort collections remind me of Edit Summer, our amazing store in Southampton (closed for the winter season) with high ceilings and wrap-around windows, located at 28 Jobs Lane right across the street from the Parrish Art Museum.

But, back to New York City.  I love holiday time in New York and in my next post, I will tell you more of my favorite secrets of fashion and little known spots for food and theater and art.

We are thankful that we are celebrating our third anniversary as the premiere uptown specialty store and the anniversary of arguably the best review ever written about any retail store entitled “Bad Taste Need not Apply“  by Cintra Wilson. Cintra Wilson is a brilliant sartorial writer for the New York Times. Her review overflowed with compliments.  Among them, she found us to be original and magical, and our selections to be perfectly Edited.

In the spirit of Cintra Wilson’s review, I am picking a small Edit from our larger well-Edited selection as a guide, showing some possible choices of what to wear this holiday weekend and throughout the holiday season.

The sparkly, glittery Anya Hindmarch clutch adds magic to any outfit for any celebration. After the holidays, wear it to dinner with a pair of black jeans and your favorite Inhabit turtleneck.  It will add that special touch to your look.

But I wonder, as the weeks fly by, does everyone love every holiday? Is it always just a whirlwind of fun and joy? Holidays can bring stress along with happy moments. Despite the stress, there are endless opportunities to have fun dressing up and to feel ultra confident. Each occasion is a chance to express oneself through fashion, and every celebration, casual or formal, can become a place of recreation as well as re-creation.

Edit New York celebrated Halloween with flair. Little ones were invited to our first annual Edit Costume Party. All dressed and impressed with their fabulous costumes, worn with pride and panache. If only every day was filled with so much excitement, joy, and fun.

Halloween and fashion have much in common. Both give freedom to express oneself through clothes; only Halloween comes but once a year and fashion is all day, every day. We all desire to dress in a way that expresses our different aspects, including our hidden princesses and superheros. At Edit, in one sense, we play dress up every day, not with a tutu or a tiara but with stylish, well-edited clothes, assisted by our knowledgeable and courteous staff.

The party was also a great way to introduce Little Edit. Our clients have been requesting that we carry clothes for children. Soon, we will dress the 0-6 year-old crowd in our uniquely edited way, with our consistently excellent taste. The girls’ boutique launches in January 2011, with the spring selection of brands including Il Gufo and Lili Gaufrette. Dress-up gets more fun every day.
