The tradition has continued as a way to fund charitable contributions to various community [...]]]> Get ready for the 26th annual REALTOR AUCTION, being held on Tuesday, May 1, at 11:30am at Oak Tree Country Club.  This fund-raising auction was started twenty-six years ago as a means of eliminating the debt on the board’s office complex. The tradition has continued as a way to fund charitable contributions to various community projects, and has become a vital source of non-dues income. A portion of these funds are donated to the Edmond, Deer Creek and Guthrie Public Schools for their Teacher of the Year Recognitions. Contributions are also made to the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life Campaign.

The Program Committee is busy soliciting donated items and making plans for all the events that will be taking place.  Plan to come early so you can view all the Silent Auction items – or participate in the Wine Pull –  and buy a Card for a chance to win $500!  The Live Auction will begin at 12 noon and continue till everything is sold.

Don’t wait for a call to donate. Contact the Board Office or any member of the Program Committee and make your donation.  All donations must be turned in to the board office by Monday, April 23rd.

The change that will be most noticed, perhaps, by our members is the addition of earthquake damage to Question 20 in the Residential Property Condition Disclosure Statement. Click here to view a version of the new form.

The other big news from OREC is that they’ll be moving to their new location April 1. They will be in the Denver Davison building (1915 N. Stiles, Suite, 200, Oklahoma City, OK 73105), very close to the State Capitol. Their phone numbers and fax numbers will remain the same. Please note:  the OREC will be in a transition period for moving from March 23 – April 1. During this time, if you need to visit the Commission, please remember to call to confirm the correct location for business.

That rumor is not true and NAR has material available to you to explain how that 3.8 [...]]]> Tax time is nearing and once more rumors are circulating on the Internet and by e-mail that the health care reform law enacted two years ago includes a 3.8 percent transfer tax on real estate starting in 2013. That rumor is not true and NAR has material available to you to explain how that 3.8 percent tax works. It’s a tax on a very narrow band of investment income for high-wealth households (those who earn $250,000 in a joint return or $200,000 as an individual) that could come into play on the sale of a house if the sales gain is more than $500,000 for a married couple or $250,000 for an individual.

Even in the unlikely event the sales gain is more than that amount, the tax would only apply based on other considerations having to with the household’s income and tax situation. The bottom line is, the tax, which was imposed to help shore up Medicare, will only hit some portion of investment income.
