I, like many Canadians cheered Jamie and her partner David on as they went for Gold at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. I was fortunate to meet Jamie a few years ago when she was a judge for the Dancing for the Kids competition which we’ve had the pleasure of photographing for the past couple of years. I had also met Craig during the Oilers heyday but never imagined back then that I would be photographing both of them one day. That’s why I love photography so much – you never know what each day will hold and it’s opened up so many great opportunities for me that wouldn’t have otherwise had thanks in part to my camera.

Kari and Jason are the co-hosts of the Wake Up Show on Up 99.3 which can be heard every weekday morning. Their burger is appropriately named the ‘Wake Up’ burger and features a 60z Heritage Angus beef patty, breakfast sausage, Canadian bacon, orange cheddar, chipotle ketchup, lettuce, and tomatoes on a fresh baked bun. $1 from every burger sold will support the Christmas Bureau and this burger is only on the menu for the month of December.

Readers of my blog may recognize Kari from last year when she participated in the Dancing for the Kids event which we photographed in support of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Edmonton. Kari was also a former Delux Burger Celebrity back in November of 2009 and her husband Ryan Jespersen of Breakfast Television was the very first Celebrity Chef when the campaign launched in July of 2009.

We had a lot of fun during our shoot and Jason did everything he could to make Kari laugh and gross her out at the same time. Here are a few photographs from our shoot at Delux Burger in West Edmonton Mall.

One of the individuals who was nominated is Sheldon Casavant – a magician and author from Edmonton. We met up in one of Edmonton’s back alleys for an urban-inspired photo shoot and Sheldon brought along several magic props to incorporate into the shoot.  It was fun to play around with some slow shutter speeds and off-camera lighting while Sheldon demonstrated some of his illusions for me. We also played around with some fire which was tricky to photograph because it only lasted for a few seconds so I had to make sure I had everything setup on my end to capture the shot.

During the shoot, I discovered that when Sheldon is not performing his illusions for audiences around the world, he also enjoys writing and has authored a children’s book called Morton the Magician.  Coincidentally, his book was illustrated by Amanda Woodward of Woodward Design who  helped to design our logo and branding so it’s always neat when you find out about a connection that you share that you weren’t aware of going into the shoot.

Kikki’s burger is called the Seriously Sassy Sirloin Burger. It features a 7 oz.  sirloin patty, red wine & blackberry compote, crumbled stilton, carmelized onions, butter lettuce, and a fresh baked bun. Kathleen has chosen to support the CaliCan Rescue Foundation, a non-profit organization that aims to find loving homes for puppies and dogs. $1 from each burger sold will go directly to CaliCan. Stop by either location of Delux Burger throughout the month of November to enjoy her fabulous creation and support a fantastic cause. If you don’t then you don’t love puppies and dogs.

I met up with Buck at the Delux Burger location in West Edmonton Mall for his photoshoot and he was very excited to have had his burger selected as the winning entry. Buck had a great smile and a lot of character in his face which I wanted to make sure I captured in the photograph. I lit this with two 580 EXII speedlights. One was used as a main light with a shoot through umbrella and the second one was placed to camera right to provide a bit of a rim light to separate him from the background. I also selected a fairly shallow depth of field to soften the background and reduce any distractions. Here are a couple of photos from our shoot along with the final ad copy:
