Spartan Golfers Win Region Title

The Edmund Burke Academy golf team has won the GISA Region 2AA championship.

The Spartans recorded a team score of 313 to claim the trophy. Carter Mobley shot a 73 to claim the Low Medalist award and a spot on the All Region team. Dawson Atkinson also earned All Region honors.

The Spartans advance to the GISA AA state tournament to be held at Jekyll Island on Monday, April 30.

Congratulations to our Spartans and good luck at state!

Spartans Clinch Region Baseball Championship

The Spartan baseball team has clinched the Region 2AA championship with a 13-3 win over Frederica Academy. The win gives the Spartans their third region championship in four years. The championship clinching game also marked the last regular season home game for the seniors. Congratulations seniors!

The Spartans have one more week of regular season play before hosting the opening round of the state championships beginning May 4-5.

COST: $50 This will cover the camp, a t-shirt and a basketball.

Boys Tennis Team Claims Region Championship; Spartans and Lady Spartans Advance to State

The EBA boys tennis team claimed the Region 2AA Region Championship on Monday by defeating Frederica Academy.

The boys and girls competed in the Region 2AA tournament on Tuesday in Augusta. The competition was to determine who would advance to the GISA State tournament. Colby Gandy finished 1st in boy's singles, Shurden Rives and Austin Daniel finished 1st in boys doubles, Kasie Hargrove and Sammi Jo Evans finished 1st in girls doubles, Mariah Cates finished 4th in girls singles, Zach Tant and Peter Cates finished 4th in boys doubles, and Alyson Jenkins and Ashley Smith finished 4th in girls doubles.

Next up for the tennis teams are the State Individual Tournaments. The first round will be played on Monday, April 16 and the Semifinals and Finals will be on Tuesday, April 17.

EBA 4-H Students Place in Achievement Program

Several of our students participated in 4-H Project Achievement with Burke County. Cloverleaf Project Achievement (5^th and 6^th grade) was held on Saturday, March 4, 2012 in Swainsboro and Jr./Sr. Project Achievement was held on Saturday, February 4^th at Rock Eagle. Project Achievement is a competition where students can choose from 64 project areas from Marine Ecology to Poultry Science and Food for Health and Sport to Wildlife. Students choose a topic within their category, write a speech, create a demonstration using posters and props to illustrate their speech, and then present their demonstrations to a panel of judges where they are judged against other students from other counties in the same project category. EBA students who placed in the projects are:

Annual PowderPuff Football Game

March 26, 2012

Dear EBA family,

          It's that time of year again! The InterAct Club of Edmund Burke is having its annual PowderPuff football game in which the high school girls will play a friendly game of flag football. This year's game is to raise money for a love offering to be taken to the Dominican Republic by the EBA Mission Team. We would like to invite all who can attend to come watch the girls on Friday, April 20, at 2:00 on the football field.

          We are planning to serve lunch to the whole school again this year. For K-4 through 4^th grades, the lunch will cost $5.00 and will consist of a hamburger, bag of chips, 2 cookies, and fruit punch. Cost and lunch for 5^th-12^th grades are the same; drinks will be soda. No other lunch or snack items will be served. Students will order lunch in homeroom as usual on that day, but please be sure to note the price difference. We would appreciate it if you would send payment separately in cash or in a check payable to EBA and designated for PowderPuff.

          Also, InterAct will be selling snacks and drinks and taking orders for PowderPuff T-shirts during the game that day. There is no admission charge to the game, but donations are certainly welcome! The T-shirts this year will be a light teal blue and light purple with charcoal gray writing—the back of the T-shirts will say “Playing with a Mission.”

          If anyone would like to receive a PowderPuff T-shirt the day before the game, then please fill out the slip below and return it with payment by MONDAY, APRIL 9 to Ms. White's box. Each T-shirt will cost $12.00. Please include cash or a check payable to EBA and designated for PowderPuff. If you cannot get the form returned by then, you will be able to place an order on game day—we will have extras available!

Environmental Science Survey

The Environmental Science Class at EBA is currently working on a project concerning recycling and solid waste management in Burke County and Waynesboro. As a class we will be working together to create a video documentary about this topic. Your input and opinion about how solid waste is managed is valuable to us.
