He argues that much of our energy today is spent on distractions from these essential elements, without which add-ons like technology and project-based learning will have little impact.</p>

<p>Dr. Brown is Assistant Superintendent in <a href="http://www.mtv80.org/education/district/district.php?sectionid=2">Mt. Vernon City Schools, District 80</a> in Illinois, a district with more than 80% of students receiving free/reduced lunch. He is also a certified Aha! Process trainer. </p>
<p>In this episode, he shares his district&#8217;s experience in helping staff work more effectively with families from poverty through professional development, as well as their new 1:1 tablet computing initiative, which will put Android tablets in the hands of every student and staff member. </p>

<p>Providing meaningful feedback and completing teacher evaluations represent a substantial portion of the work of school leaders. My guests this week shared their insights into managing the process, and described how they strive to provide instructional leadership through the process. Thanks to Jessica and Chuck for their time and willingness to share.</p>
<p>Jessica&#8217;s advice: Don&#8217;t put off the post-conference &#8211; the sooner you have the post-observation meeting, the more meaningful the feedback will be.</p>
<p>Chuck&#8217;s advice: Make it a priority every day. Don&#8217;t underestimate the importance of the leader&#8217;s presence in classrooms.  </p>
