	One thing the National Republican debates have reminded us of, is the importance of humor.&amp;nbsp; The candidates are obviously not aware to the extent that their comments will be twisted into late night fodder. They certainly do not give us these valuable nuggets for this purpose, but the comical statements and wisecracks played over and over again on late night television comedy routines reminds us that our audience is listening and they do take note of what we say and how we say it.

	The same logic applies to those who may be giving a presentation. Those involved in a debate can prepare to the best of their knowledge based on what they hope the questions will be while those standing in front of an audience knowing their event and exact topic have a big advantage.&amp;nbsp; There usually is no hidden agenda and you generally will have prepared your message in advance. The use of humor in imparting your information will not only relax your audience, it will relax you. &amp;nbsp;The pressure eases a little when you notice your audience participating and having a good time.&amp;nbsp; Humor can help you connect with your crowd and win them over to your point of view.

    <title>The “IT” Factor</title>

<description>THE &amp;ldquo;IT&amp;rdquo; FACTOR
	It&amp;rsquo;s not just about one thing, it&amp;rsquo;s about everything!

	A couple walked into a networking event and all eyes turned to them. The woman was professionally dressed as was the man, and it was very obvious that they belonged&amp;nbsp;belonged. Both the man and woman were of average height and neither was striking in beauty, nor did they have any physical features that caused them to stand out. They did, however, both exhibit great posture and were obviously secure in their own skin, and it quickly became clear that both were very confident as they walked about the room and moved with purpose.

	
	As they were introduced to the other attendees by the host and given the opportunity to share their story, they maintained comfortable eye contact and the skilled timing of their questions and answers was appropriate and prudent. They were engaging and listened attentively to what others had to say. People were naturally drawn to them, each conversation ended with people reaching into their breast pockets to hand the couple business cards. They were delighted to reciprocate as they showed both patience and interest with each person they interacted with, especially those obviously not comfortable communicating in social environments.

	
	They had a relaxed, at ease demeanor that was both calming and welcoming, gently taking charge of conversations when group discussions became stale or an uncertain silence prevailed, and listening intently when others were sharing. They were expert communicators who were extremely effective, skillfully building trust and interest simultaneously. They obtained a significant number of new business contacts simply because of the way they carried themselves and interacted with others, exhibiting that they were seasoned professionals who knew exactly what they were doing.

	
	This certainly was not the case for either of them early in their careers when they both suffered from the fear of public speaking and giving presentations. The man was far too aggressive and the woman much too shy, and neither was comfortable making good eye contact, nor did they ask appropriate or timely questions. They seemed awkward and uncertain of their message, and they lacked confidence, focus and professionalism. They simply did not have the &amp;ldquo;IT&amp;rdquo; factor.

	
	Effective communication happens because you are prepared, certain and confident. 	1) Talk about yourself:&amp;nbsp; After all, you are the most important person in the room.&amp;nbsp; Don&amp;rsquo;t engage the audience or ask anyone a question because they came to hear your story, not theirs. So it is all about you!

	2) Never, ever make eye contact:&amp;nbsp; When you walk into the room be sure to roll your shoulders forward, look down, find the closet corner and stay there.&amp;nbsp; Remain statuesque, don&amp;rsquo;t move around or look up because someone might catch your eye and start a conversation with you!

	&amp;nbsp;

	3) No smiling:&amp;nbsp; Looking disinterested or angry is a certain way to create tension and produce a cold environment so people know you are unapproachable.

	&amp;nbsp;

	4) Always talk religion and politics:&amp;nbsp; It is important that everyone understands that your political and religious views are important to you, and therefore, should be important to them!

	&amp;nbsp;

	5) Read from a script:&amp;nbsp; You are extremely busy and have no time to memorize your pitch.&amp;nbsp; When the time comes to give your 30 second commercial, read slowly, word for word so you don&amp;rsquo;t leave anything out!

	&amp;nbsp;

	6) Everyone must have your information:&amp;nbsp; Walk up to every individual and hand them your business card, along with any other printed material you can carry.&amp;nbsp; Ask them what part they see themselves playing and how they can help build your business!
