French electro artist Danger released a new EP titled 09/16 2007 which I’ve been listening to religiously for the past few weeks. After his exceptional first effort, this new EP bodes well for the album due to be released later this year.

The new EP is available for just a few bucks on Amazon and iTunes, or for free on Spotify. For your instant gratification here’s a preview of the indubitable highlight, the track “88:88”.

NPR has published three reviews of Watchmen from Bob Mondello, David Edelstein and Kenneth Turan. Ultimately they all say the same thing – namely that the film is difficult for the non-initiated to appreciate – but I think Edelstein provides the best commentary. Being new to the material myself, I found the movie conflicting and confusing but appreciable overall. Jackie Earle Haley’s performance as Rorschach is worth the experience in itself.

Robert Krulwich and two biographers describe what happened when Charles Darwin accidentally ate the elusive bird he had been searching for for many months.

Its eyes can rotate within this transparent shell allowing it to see the water above, as explained in this fascinating video from the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute.

There’s a trend, I’ve noticed, for English-speakers to create increasingly noncommittal sentences. I’ve caught myself uttering these words, and recently have tried to excise them as much as possible. Things like: “that’s really kind of…” or “that’s very sort of…”.

It seems that for fear of insulting their peers, people are diluting their thoughts with these expressions. This becomes quite dulling as people begin to chain such expressions together creating passionless and oxymoronic sentences.

Eddie Izzard touched on this idea when discussing the word “awesome”. Don’t we want these words to keep their power?
