Personal sightings of coyote prove state data of widespread populations

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP – “Wake up, there’s a wolf in our yard,” I said to my husband early one spring morning about two years ago.

“Well, maybe it’s not a wolf,” I excitedly corrected myself as I peered out the window. “It’s a coyote. Can it be a coyote? I really think it’s a coyote. You have to see this!”

I quickly grabbed my camera and started taking pictures of the canine animal that was definitely not afraid of me as it crossed our yard. Black, brown and tan in color, it looked like a skinny, off-color German Shepherd dog. But this dog had no collar and knew its way around the woods that surround our English Creek-area home.

On Thursday, May 16th, members of the community were “arrested” and brought to the holding facility at the Berkshire Grill, a co-sponsor of the Egg Harbor Township Police Athletic League’s Jail or Bail fundraiser, which to date has raised approximately $11,000.

Thanks to all who helped make our May 2, 2013 HERO and Side-by-Side Concert a success.

Including side-by-side students, the Atlantic Pops Community Band had more than 80 playing members, and an estimated 400 plus audience members. We helped raise money for and bring awareness to a worthy cause, the HERO Campaign for Designated Drivers.

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP - Egg Harbor Township Mayor James J. McCullough announced Tuesday, May 21 that the township has been awarded a Clean Communities Grant in the amount of $91,438.33 from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. The grant will be utilized to increase the number of litter-abatement educational assemblies held in our schools and purchase of books to educate our students on the importance of litter-abatement.

Police asking for tips on Burger King armed robbery

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP – Police are searching for tips regarding an armed robbery that occurred on Saturday, May 18 at the Burger King on Tilton Road in the Bargaintown section of the township.

According to police two males entered the fast food restaurant at approximately 10 p.m., showed a handgun and demanded money. The employees complied with the demand and turned over an undisclosed amount of cash to the pair, who then fled the area on foot. No one was injured.

Students both the Dr. Joyanne D. Miller School and the Alder Avenue Middle School, joined forces to let the nation’s military know how much they are appreciated for all they do. Recently, these students collected items to send to deployed military personnel through the A.R.M.S. organization.
